Chapter 6
The Last of Jadeite
Author's Note: This chapter is dedicated to the memory of Rachel Lillis, the English dub voice of Jigglypuff during the 4Kids era of the Pokémon anime. We will always remember the times she sang Jigglypuff's song for us viewers and the times she made us laugh when Jigglypuff drew on people's faces.
Deep in the depths of the Dark Kingdom, Queen Beryl was speaking with her loyal servant, Jadeite. Although pleased with the amount of energy he collected, she was also very upset at his constant failures. Before he could speak, she cut him off.
"I do not want to hear your excuses!" she said sternly. "You must defeat Sailor Moon and the others before they cause any more trouble! Or else it's… the Sentence of Eternal Sleep."
Everyone who was listening knew exactly what she meant. The Sentence of Eternal Sleep was a punishment also known as permanent death. If he did not accomplish his task to kill the Sailor Guardians and Ash, he would be plunged into eternal darkness, where he would eventually die.
Meanwhile, in Celadon City, Usagi was looking at the various constellations in the sky from her bedroom window, even wondering if Motoki was actually Tuxedo Mask. At the same time, Chibiusa was upstairs in the attic thinking about Ash. Even though she was only ten, she had a major crush on him. The two had known each other ever since they were young before Ash had met Gary Oak in Pallet Town. Just then, Kirlia walked up next to her near the window.
"You alright, Chibiusa?" asked Kirlia.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking about Ash, is all," replied Chibiusa.
"You're seriously in love with him, aren't you?"
Chibiusa nodded her head. "Mmm-hmm. I mean, Ash and I go way back. Even before I became a Pokémon Trainer, we used play together all the time. But then something happened that forced us to be separated."
"Oh yeah? What was it?"
"I don't know, really. Something to do with a giant monster, maybe? It sure wasn't a Pokémon, I can tell you that. We used to live in Goldenrod City back then. But after we got separated, my family moved here to Celadon, while Ash moved to Pallet Town."
Just then, Jigglypuff popped out of its Poké Ball to try and sing, only to be stopped by Chibiusa's fist.
"You stop that, Jigglypuff! Now's not the time to be singing! I'm having a moment here!" she snapped.
Jigglypuff turned the other way and scoffed while holding its microphone.
"You really drive me nuts; you know that?" Chibiusa muttered.
Suddenly, they heard an evil laugh form outside. Back in her room, Usagi wondered what it was. As if by instinct, Luna let out a fierce hiss with her hackles raised in defense. Suddenly, a large projection of Jadeite appeared over the city of Celadon to deliver a message.
"Hear me! I am Jadeite!" he said. "Now, Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Chibi Moon, and the one called Ash, come to Haneda Airport at 1 AM tomorrow night. Be at Runway F."
He then spat a ball of fire that seemingly turned the city into a sea of flames as a warning to them if they did not show up.
"You… You monster!" snarled Luna.
Jadeite snapped his fingers and the fire immediately went away. He then explained that what they saw was just an illusion.
"If you're late, I'll turn Celadon into a city of flames for real," he warned as the projection disappeared.
Kirlia gulped in fear at what he had just said. There was no two ways about it. She was terrified.
"Oh, boy. This isn't good," she said.
At the Hikawa Shrine, everyone met up to discuss what they should do about the situation.
"If we don't show up, Jadeite will set the whole city on fire, hurting millions!" explained Luna. "What are we going to do?"
"Go! When evil issues a challenge, we must always confront it," said Rei.
"But we'd probably be walking right into a trap," Ami argued.
"Maybe, but even so we have to!"
"What do you think, Usagi?" asked Luna.
"We should go and fight the bad guys, right?"
"No, we should come up with a plan first, don't you think?" suggested Ami.
Usagi, of course, being in the middle of all this, really didn't want any part of it whatsoever. In fact, she even openly admitted that she was too scared to fight.
"Usagi, we don't really have a choice in the matter!" said Chibiusa. "If we don't go, a lot people are going to get hurt!"
"Chibiusa's right, Usagi," said Luna. "And knowing how people are, they're probably going to set up security at the airport just to be extra cautious. But we have to go!"
"But I'm scared," Usagi whimpered.
"I'm scared, too, Usagi. Now quit being a crybaby about it," Rei chastised.
The following night, just as Luna had expected, various police officers were stationed in strategic locations at the airport. As soon as Jadeite arrived, however, he immediately put them all to sleep so that he could patiently wait for the Pokémon Guardians to arrive.
The heroes eventually arrived at the train station leading to the monorail Haneda line.
"Hurry up, Usagi, or we'll leave you behind!" called Rei.
"Stop being so bossy!" said Usagi.
"Now's not the time to be arguing," said Ami.
As soon as they arrived, the train's door opened and they all walked in. As soon as they did, the door immediately closed behind them and the train began traveling towards the Haneda Airport. As they were traveling, Usagi asked Ami something that had been on her mind for a while.
"Hey, Ami, I've been meaning to ask you… What happened to your Bellsprout?"
"I traded it away a few days ago for a cute Poliwag. The trainer I traded with really wanted a Bellsprout, so I gave them mine."
"Didn't you receive that Bellsprout from your prep school?" asked Ash.
"It's fine, Ash. While I did have some attachment to it, I honestly thought it was high time that we moved on."
As the train continued onward, everyone couldn't help but be a bit worried about what could happen once they reached the Haneda Airport. No one was more worried about this than Luna, though. In fact, she had a bad feeling about the entire situation.
"Not good…! We might've just stepped right into the enemy's trap!" she said.
After riding the train for some time, the group finally arrived at the Haneda Airport at approximately 1:05 AM, just barely on-time. Usagi then noticed that there were quite a few police officers at the airport. Just then, a few police officers appeared out of nowhere from behind them and attempted to attack them. Sensing danger, Kirlia's eyes immediately started to glow blue, as if she was prepping for an attack.
"Look out behind you!" the Pokémon exclaimed.
Everyone else was in shock at the sight of a group of police officers that were about to attack them. Just as one of them was about to strike, however, the officer was suddenly hit by a sphere of rainbow-colored energy, knocking him down. As soon as he was down, Rei instructed everyone to follow her in order to escape their assailants. Upon making it to the runway, however, Ami suddenly realized that something was definitely off with the police officers.
"MERCURY POWER! MAKE UP!" shouted Ami as she held up her Mercury pen. After shouting the phrase, Ami instantly transformed into her Sailor Guardian alter ego, Sailor Mercury.
"All right! I'm in, too!" Rei exclaimed enthusiastically. She held up her Mars pen and shouted, "MARS POWER! MAKE UP!" She then transformed into Sailor Mars in an instant and stood before the supposed police officers.
"What, seriously? Are we really the last ones to transform!?" Usagi asked in confusion.
"Usagi, get over it and transform already!" Chibiusa said.
Usagi nodded her head and the two of them shouted, "MOON PRISM POWER! MAKE UP!" It was then and there that the two sisters instantly transformed into both Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi Moon.
After that was done, Sailor Mercury tapped her right earring, which brought up her visor. This was a little nifty feature that she had which allowed her to scan certain objects. She also had a pocket-sized super computer that Luna had given her a while back. After scanning the officers, Sailor Mercury confirmed that her suspicions were right. The officers weren't really officers. They were just a bunch of clay golems created with dark magic. Knowing this, Sailor Mars decided to not hold back and destroyed the clay golems with her Fire Soul attack.
After doing so, the heroes heard laughter from above them. Looking up, they all saw Jadeite, who was happy that they arrived to face him.
"At last you're here, Pokémon Guardians. And you've shown me your true identities," he said sinisterly.
Pikachu was not happy that they've been tricked. He was so angry that his electric sacs on his cheeks began to spark.
"Pi-ka!" he exclaimed angrily, meaning, Why, you!
"The joys of life are short-lived and its ordeals many. But that's not your concern since your lives end today!"
"That's what you think, you big jerk!" shouted Ash.
"Enough of this nonsense! I'll send you five pathetic kids to depths of hell!"
Using his telepathy, Jadeite took control of one of the airplanes and directed it towards the heroes as an attempt to kill them.
"Run! Quickly!" exclaimed Luna.
The group did just that, but then noticed another plane coming towards them from the opposite direction. Sailor Mars was about to use her Fire Soul attack on the planes, but was immediately stopped by Luna.
"Do you know how much an airplane like those two cost?! A lifetime of all your allowances put together wouldn't even come close to covering the damages you could cause to them!"
Once they realized that attacking the planes wasn't an option, the only other thing that the friends could do was to continue running. As they continued running, Sailor Moon realized that the runway was about to end, leaving them trapped.
"This is bad," thought Luna.
"We're going to die! We're all going to die!" thought Sailor Chibi Moon as she braced for impact.
"It's over!" laughed Jadeite. His victory was soon cut short once a red rose landed by his feet, however.
Once it landed, the airplanes immediately stopped dead in their tracks.
"Picking on young kids is your idea of fun?" a heroic voice asked.
It was Tuxedo Mask. He arrived just in time to save Ash and the Sailor Guardians from being crushed by an airplane.
"Guess I'll have to send you to hell along with those brats," said Jadeite.
He then shot out dark lightning at Tuxedo Mask. Thankfully, the tuxedo-wearing hero was able to dodge it in time just before it could hit him. Jadeite then leapt up towards Tuxedo Mask and the two of them clashed until they splashed in the water below. Once they did, Tuxedo Mask's rose emerged from the water, along with Jadeite himself. They fought hard, but Tuxedo Mask had lost.
"Your last hope, Tuxedo Mask, is now dead! Go on and cry! Do you need a man to do everything for you?! You four women are such shallow, useless creatures!" Jadeite laughed.
Angered at what happened, Sailor Chibi Moon got out her Pink Sugar wand and fired her Pink Sugar Heart Attack at Jadeite. The impact from the beam managed to damage the right side of his face.
"You little sailor brat! You've pissed me off for the last time! NOW DIE!"
Jadeite pointed his finger at Sailor Chibi Moon and fired a beam of pure energy at her. While everyone else managed to jump out of the way before the beam could connect, Sailor Chibi Moon was too frightened to move.
"Chibi Moon! Get out of there!" shouted Kirlia.
As much as she wanted to, Sailor Chibi Moon was just too terrified to move at all. Suddenly, out of nowhere, the Poké Ball containing Jigglypuff broke in two and Jigglypuff popped out of it.
"Jigglypuff! What are doing?!" shouted Sailor Chibi Moon.
Jigglypuff leapt directly in the way of the blast just before it could hit its trainer. Everyone gasped in both shock and horror at what they had just witnessed. Jigglypuff had just sacrificed itself to save its trainer from dying. After getting hit by the blast, Jigglypuff landed on the runway with a big thud.
"Damnit! The useless pink puffball got in the way of my victory!" growled Jadeite.
Sailor Chibi Moon ran up to her Pokémon to make sure it was okay. As soon as she did, however, she immediately saw that it wasn't. Blood was dripping down its body. Its microphone was broken. Jigglypuff had taken more damage than it ever had in its life.
"Jigglypuff! Why did you do that!?" Sailor Chibi Moon asked.
Jigglypuff weakly turned its head towards Sailor Chibi Moon and explained in its own language that it did what it did because she was her friend. And friends always stick out for each other.
"Jigglypuff, forget about that! We need to take you to the Pokémon Center!"
Getting out one of her Poké Balls, Sailor Chibi Moon called out one her Pokémon. It was a metal bird Pokémon known as Skarmory. As soon as she got it out, she immediately transformed back into her civilian clothes and hopped on to its back with Jigglypuff in her arms.
"You guys continue the fight without me! I've got to get Jigglypuff to the Pokémon Center as quickly as I can!"
The others nodded in agreement at her statement.
"Skarmory, take us to the Pokémon Center in Celadon City; and step on it!"
Skarmory took off and started flying through the air as fast as it could towards the Celadon City Pokémon Center. After Chibiusa was out of sight, the others continued the fight against Jadeite, who once again, possessed the airplanes. They then all agreed to combine each other's abilities in order to defeat him.
"Pikachu and I will act as a decoy, since we're so fast!" said Ash.
"Great idea, Ash!" said Sailor Mars.
"How about some cover, Mercury?"
"On it!" said Sailor Mercury.
She readied herself and began to execute her Bubble Spray attack. Once the attack was complete, Ash and Pikachu ran away from the plane as fast as they could. Jadeite tried to find the Sailor Guardians, but couldn't see that well thanks to Sailor Mercury clouding the area with a bubbly mist. As soon as he spotted Sailor Mercury, he commanded the other plane to go after her. While he was laughing, however, he failed to notice Sailor Mars behind him. She grabbed an ofuda and recited the kuji-in.
"Rin, pyo, to, sha, kai, jin, retsu, zai zen!" she chanted. She then tossed it on to Jadeite's back while he was distracted.
Much to Jadeite's surprise, however, the planes redirected their routes towards him instead of his targets, thanks to Sailor Mars' ofuda. Just then, he saw himself face-to-face with the remaining Pokémon Guardians.
"Don't underestimate what a girl can do!" said Sailor Moon. "We don't just stand around and cry when we're faced with serious problems! Now you're going to pay for your countless evil deeds! In the name of the moon, I'll punish you!"
Sailor Moon then took off her tiara and readied her attack.
"MOON TIARA ACTION!" she shouted as she tossed her tiara at Jadeite.
Even though he dodged the tiara, Jadeite soon found himself run over by a plane and managed to safely teleport back to the Dark Kingdom before any further damaged could be done to him. Naturally, Queen Beryl was most displeased by his inability to kill the Pokémon Guardians.
"Pathetic fool! You had the nerve to run back here to me?!" she snarled.
"Queen Beryl, I've discovered the true identities of the Sailor Guardians!" he said weakly, begging for her to spare his life.
"Enough talk and excuses! You're a disgrace! Now sleep for all eternity!"
Despite his pleas, Jadeite was encapsulated in a crystal and was soon plunged into the eternal darkness, where death awaited him.
"Mark my words. Useless failures must be disposed of!" she warned.
Since Jadeite was now gone, Queen Beryl announced to Nephrite that it was his turn to gather the energy that they needed to achieve their sinister goals.
"Jadeite was incompetent. But you can count on me," he chuckled.
Back at the airport, the friends were mourning the loss of Tuxedo Mask, when out of nowhere, he revealed to them that he was still alive. Sailor Mars wanted to know who he really was, but he simply stated that it wasn't exactly time for him to do that, yet. He then gave them one last word of advice before departing.
"Cherish the bond that exists not only between all of you, but also you and your Pokémon, as well," he said. And with that, he departed with his cape flowing in the wind.
Sometime later at the Celadon City Pokémon Center, Ash and the others ran up to Chibiusa in the waiting room.
"Chibiusa! How's Jigglypuff?" asked Usagi.
Chibiusa didn't answer. She just looked up at the light above the emergency room. After a while, Nurse Joy came out of the emergency with her head hung low.
"Nurse Joy! How is she? How's Jigglypuff? She's going to make it, right!?" asked Chibiusa.
Nurse Joy slowly turned her head to the side and broke the news to them.
"I'm afraid that the wounds are too fatal for us to do anything," she said sadly.
Tears formed in Chibiusa's eyes upon hearing those words.
"No… No…!"
Everyone else hung their heads in silence as Chibiusa began to break down.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
With her emotions getting the best of her, Chibiusa started crying uncontrollably and ended up hugging Usagi for comfort.
Sometime later, the friends eventually reached the Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town, where Jigglypuff was buried. After that was over, Chibiusa wiped some of the tears from her eyes and hung her head low.
"There's nothing you could've done," said Kirlia.
"I wish I could take back what I said to her last night. I just didn't want her singing during my little moment," Chibiusa choked.
After spending some time at Jigglypuff's grave, Chibiusa walked out of the Pokémon Tower and sat alone on a bench next to the Poké Mart. As time passed, she eventually heard a cry in the nearby bushes. Curious, she peered in the bushes and saw a Pokémon that she had never seen before. She got out her Pokédex and immediately scanned it. The Pokédex claimed that the Pokémon's name was Tinkatink, a dual Fairy/Steel-type Pokémon. She put away her Pokédex and slowly made her way towards it.
"Hey, there. What's wrong? Are you lost?"
The Tinkatink stopped crying and cautiously looked up at her.
"It's alright. I'm not going to hurt you. Promise."
Satisfied with Chibiusa's answer, the Tinkatink joyfully leapt into her arms and cuddled with her.
"You're cute; you know that?" she chuckled.
After giving it some thought, Chibiusa had a terrific idea.
"Hey! Do you want to be my Pokémon?"
"Tinka!" replied the Tinkatink.
"Great!"
Chibiusa put down the Tinkatink and got out a special all-white Poké Ball with a red band in the middle known as a Premier Ball.
"Here."
The Tinkatink gently touched the Premier Ball's button and was instantly caught by the device. Everyone else ran over to her and wondered what all the noise was about. She then showed them that she had just caught a brand new Pokémon from a far-off region that had gotten lost.
"No way!" exclaimed Usagi.
"How is that even possibly?" asked Ami.
"Maybe it's just fate," said Chibiusa.
She then looked up at the sky and smiled. Even though Jigglypuff was gone, she will never be forgotten. Not ever. As long as there were memories, Chibiusa knew that her Jigglypuff would always be remembered.
