Author's Notes: Hello! Oh gosh, this is one that has been on the waiting list for a while (what with work and life in general) and this has gotta be another unique one for the books. I'm not sure exactly when the idea came into my head, but I know that the movie itself has been in my movie collection for a long, long time. Being as young as I was, maybe there were some parts that scared me, but then again, since this was animation and Disney those parts didn't scare me…I'm not sure; a lot of past memories are bit fuzzy. But conceptualizing this crossover (especially when the dwarves *cough* Sneezy *cough* got involved) was a lot of fun. And let me tell you, DJ, I don't know HOW you did it, but writing off-the-book rhymes for the Magic Mirror was a toughie. I mean, I guess once I figured out the message that I wanted to get across, the words came to me, but still.
This is also a unique entry in the sense that I'm going to be doing something a bit different with the beginning; you'll see it when you start reading the story itself.
Now, where is this story situated in the grand scheme of things? Well, I didn't put it down anywhere in my planned timeline list, but I knew that I wanted this to take place before my planned "Enchanted" crossover. I also had thought that it would take place before Lina gained her human form but then I remembered a certain detail so this actually takes place after that but before I have my big Digimon adventure; kinda like a breather before a big leap. This also takes place before the LA Incident of '92, just so you know.
Now, as per usual, here's the disclaimer: I do not own the characters of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves", they belong to Disney. I also do not own the characters of H-B Godzilla and Godzooky, they belong to Toho and Hanna-Barbera (or I guess I should say Warner Bros). I only own my OCs, which are Lina, Gina, and myself. Now, the characters of Godzilla II and Minya…their personalities and backstories are my own, but they were inspired by the two Toho monsters Minilla and Baby/Little Godzilla/Godzilla Jr, so because of that, I'm not sure if they are OCs or not. If anyone can help clear this up, it would be deeply appreciated.
Well, I don't think there's anything else to cover here, so…let's get to it. But…I'm getting the feeling something's wrong here. Let's take a look:
CHAPTER 1
"Hello. I suppose that's a way to start. To whoever may be reading this, my name is Victoria Lynn, and if you are reading this, you're going to be in for quite a story. It's just… It's just a shame the ending will be a sad one, though.
Yeah, I know; "some starter", right? Well, at the time I'm writing this, it certainly looks that way.
I know none of us wants to leave, but we've already been here way too long; I have a summer to get back to and the kids can't stay; there's just…too many memories. And the children…the children need their father. Just like they need…
…
Sorry. It's just…in all the adventures I've had with the family, we've never had to leave somebody behind before. It's not that we want to, but like I said before, we've already been in this story for too long.
I suppose I should explain before I start repeating myself and get this paper more wet than it already is. You see, me and the family—Oh wait, I think I should explain who "the family" is first. They're a family of…well, I suppose the best way to put this in terms for you to understand is that they're a family of amazing creatures. If you saw them, I think you'd liken them to dragons. Dragons that can stand upright, talk, and have unique personalities just like people do.
There's Godzilla, the father of the family; brave, strong, and pretty smart. He's always learning from our adventures with hopes that he'll become a good leader someday.
There's Godzooky, the nephew. He's kinda the funny one of the family and works as an entertainer. If you saw him, he'd probably look more like a dragon to you because of the wings under his arms, but he'd take your comment with a smile and make you smile too.
Godzilla II is the oldest child in the family, and as such he tries to take that seriously. Maybe a little too seriously at times. He is a compassionate type, though, and always willing to help protect his family.
Minya is the middle child. Not very bold, though he's making some progress, but he's very kind and gentle. He always tries his hardest to be the best he can be, but I think his kindness might take him farther than trying to be a fighter. At least, that's what his mother has said more than once according to Godzilla.
Gina is the youngest child in the family; bright, sweet, and very talented. Not only can she sing, but she's demonstrated more than once the uncanny ability to talk to and understand animals which just makes her oldest brother—and the rest of us—astounded to no end. Honestly, if it's ever surprised her, she hasn't said anything yet.
And finally, there's Lina, the mother. She is—was— OK, I can tell this part's going to be a bit difficult to write…but I have to. But I just can't use "was" in my description of her; it just doesn't feel right. But… Lina…was…the mother of the family. Kind, courageous, independent, strong in body and spirit, dedicated to her loved ones, and a beautiful singer, a talent she has passed down to her daughter. And she was beautiful, not just in looks, but also in her soul; Goji would never forgive me if I didn't add that. And I would never forgive myself if I didn't add that she was a dear friend.
As for myself, I'm a girl of twelve years of age who has been spending most of her summer getting to know the amazing beings I have just described. I met Godzilla and Lina when they were kids, I was there when all four of the kids hatched, and we've been on some amazing adventures, too many to recount here. However, the one I will recount is the one that will tell of how I came to start writing this, the one that has a sad ending.
We didn't plan on it happening; we usually never plan on having stuff like this happening, but it was…just one of those "beyond our control" things.
Anyway, there's probably a question that's been lingering in the back of your mind as you've been reading this, so I may as well address it now: The family and I are from other worlds that are beyond this one where dwarves dig in mines the whole day through, princesses sing with birds, and evil queens live in castles. The world I come from is filled with large buildings and machines that take people over land, sea, and air. Ordinary people, not dwarves, dig for the resources that sustain our daily lives, though many are searching for newer, cleaner solutions. Princesses don't communicate with animals and there are no evil queens to be found. There's not much magic here, but there are moments in the small things people do that could be considered magical. It may sound strange to you, but that's home to me.
As for the family, their world is similar to mine, but it is also filled with other spectacular creatures like them; there are some that look like birds, some that look like dragons themselves, and others are very strange and frightening. The family lives on an island where many creatures who live to defend their world reside under the watchful eye and care of Godzilla's grandfather. I guess you could say Godzilla's grandfather is the king of the island, which, of course, makes Godzilla a prince. It's not something any of us point out very often, but…
Anyway, I'm getting off-topic, so I'd better start telling the story now. Our story starts when I went to visit the family in their world one day. I remember Gina had asked me to bring some new stories the next time I came by, so I brought some from home, including one called "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". I had just managed to read the first few sentences when… I honestly don't know if it went off by itself or Gina accidentally hit something, but my watch—a time-telling device like a clock that you wear on your wrist—suddenly transported us into the book.
When I woke up, I found myself in a rather fancy bedroom and it somehow hit me that I was in a castle. While I was trying to find my way around, I bumped into a young lady with pale skin, rosy cheeks, brown eyes, red lips, and short, black hair dressed in rags. She introduced herself as Snow White and led me to another room where Lina and Gina were. To my surprise, Snow White didn't seem surprised or scared by the two female kaijus' appearance. She then admitted that she had been a bit surprised, but saw that they meant no harm and apparently they had been talking with her while I had been unconscious. And Snow White and Gina got along quite famously (no surprise there :) ).
Another conversation with the young lady (who was two years older than me, believe it or not!) revealed that we were in her stepmother's castle, and that said stepmother was Queen of the land. She also told us that she was a princess, which got me a bit flustered for not addressing her properly and Gina became absolutely thrilled at the thought of meeting a princess; that also brought up the question of why a princess was dressed as a maid. The answer: Her stepmother. Now, it's not really our place to question how things are in another world, but we couldn't help but express our disapproval over the situation. We also found out that she hadn't seen Godzilla, Zooky, Little Goji, or Minya when she found us, so that was a slight downer.
It was right there and then that the three of us got unexpectedly introduced to Queen Grimhilde when she flung the door open. She certainly looked the part, that was for sure; she wore a gold crown on her head, carried herself in a regal manner, and wore a dark blue dress with a red-lined black cape. However, the look she gave us with those green eyes of hers was enough to make me feel uncomfortable, and I wasn't the only one. Snow White valiantly defended us, but it seemed that Her Majesty (and I say that very darkly in regard to Queen Grimhilde) was not surprised by our appearance. And it didn't take much convincing from the little princess for the queen to let us stay. The only conditions were that we would also work in the castle and never leave its grounds. We really wanted to go find the guys, but one look between Lina, Gina, and myself told us that Grimhilde was not someone to mess with, so we (reluctantly) agreed.
And now with my friends and I in the picture, I suppose those first few sentences I read before we came here will have to go something like this:
'Once upon a time there lived a lovely little princess named Snow White. Her vain and wicked stepmother the Queen feared that some day Snow White's beauty would surpass her own. So she dressed the little princess in rags and forced her to work as a scullery maid, alongside three strangers who had come to the castle under mysterious circumstances.
'Each day the vain Queen consulted her Magic Mirror, "Magic Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?" ..and as long as the Mirror answered, "You are the fairest one of all", Snow White was safe from the Queen's cruel jealousy and her new friends were safe from her cold cruelty.'
And so it seemed for a good long while. Unfortunately, according to storytelling rules, something had to happen to keep the story going. And in our case, our luck with Queen Grimhilde was just about to run out…"
What no-one but one person in the castle knew was that the reason that Queen Grimhilde had not been surprised by the strange newcomers in her castle was because she had been told that they were coming.
Grimhilde's castle had many rooms, one in particular held one of her most valued possessions: A Magic Mirror. It had been during one of the times that Grimhilde asked her usual question to the Mirror that the spirit inside sensed the coming arrival of 7 strangers from another world. Grimhilde had been confused as to why only 3 strangers showed at her castle, but she figured that the other 4 would show soon enough. Besides, she had other things on her mind, which was why once again she came to the Mirror and spoke the following incantation:
"Slave in the Magic Mirror, come from the farther space. Through wind and darkness I summon thee! Speak!" she continued, raising her arms as a wind came out of nowhere, making her sleeves flutter. A clap of thunder sounded before her reflection disappeared and flames flared up inside as Grimhilde finished: "Let me see thy face!"
The flames soon vanished, revealing what looked like a living opera mask floating in the mirror, which spoke in a deep, reverberating voice that indicated its otherworldly nature: "What wouldst thou know, my Queen?"
"Magic Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?" the vain Queen asked.
However, unlike other times, this time, the answer was this: "Famed is thy beauty, Majesty. But hold! A lovely maid I see. Rags cannot hide her gentle grace. Alas, she is more fair than thee."
"Alas for her!" Grimhilde said, crossing her arms. "Reveal her name."
"Lips red as the rose, hair black as ebony, skin white as snow."
Grimhilde's calm look turned into one of shock; the day she had been dreading had finally come. The Mirror only spoke the truth, so she had never doubted its word.
"There is more," the Mirror spoke. "The three who have journeyed from another realm, shall this day be joined by four. A family shall reunite. Beware their might."
With that, the flames from before leapt up inside the mirror, covering the mask-like face of the Spirit. Another clap of thunder went off followed by a gust of wind…and the Spirit was gone.
Grimhilde stood in front of the mirror—which had returned to its normal state—for a long while, pondering the Spirit's words. From the moment she had seen them, she knew there was something different about that young girl with the spectacles and the two dragon-like creatures who accompanied her, appearances aside, of course.
The girl seemed innocent enough and rather plain; she knew authority and respected it. She spooked easily and wasn't always very graceful, but if Grimhilde managed to catch a side glance at the girl she thought she could see a thinking mind, very much like a scholar. As for the two creatures, apparently female, Grimhilde could sense that they both had power inside, great power that she could use. Unfortunately, it seemed that the three barely left each other's side or Snow White's and the female dragons seemed to always know when she was trying to separate them through the various chores she gave.
And now they were about to be reunited with the 4 others who came from that other world, and those four were likely just as powerful and cunning as the females.
Grimhilde needed a plan, one that would rid her of Snow White and get those creatures on her side, but what—? Then it hit her: The Mirror had mentioned a family being reunited. Were these strangers that family? If so, then it would be simple to bring them under her control.
Sometime later, Grimhilde was walking through the castle when she heard what sounded like a man singing. She quickly headed for the nearest window and pulled back the red drapes.
She couldn't believe her eyes. There was young Prince Florian in her castle along with another of those dragon creatures, and who was the prince singing to? Snow White!
That tore it. She had to dispose of Snow White and now! And she had an idea on how to do so and take care of these strangers at the same time.
Oh dear. This does not bode well. But here we are, which I think is the first minute or so of the film itself with some setting up done in media res. Yeah, never started a story like that before so I'm curious and nervous to see how you will like that. And since this is like the first minute, there's not much to break down here; the first part with the letter was really just the set-up: How did we get here, who are these people that you're going to read about, etc. Now, my goal here was to make it seem like there's a mystery to be unraveled here. Apparently, something bad has happened and you need to read on to find out exactly what. …Unfortunately, that may not work because this is such a well-known movie so any sense of possible mystery is lost. *sigh* Well, I hope you guys appreciate the effort either way.
All right, now I know there's questions you have such as: "How in the world did you find Snow White's age?" I think I might have looked up her character bio somewhere and found it. And, wow was I a bit surprised. To remind you, Vicky in these stories is 12 years old. Yeah. And I also went on a bit of a deep-dive into Disney's Snow White media and found that there was a comic based on the movie done, including some scenes that never made it in. Just type "Filmic Light - Snow White Archive" into your search engine and you should find it; it's got a scene where Snow White makes a dummy modeled after her dream prince, a scene with Grimhilde hearing Prince Florian profess his love to Snow White much to her angered shock, and even a scene where Florian has been captured by Grimhilde and later escapes. I have to tell you, I was amazed by this find and I think you will be, too, if you've never seen it yourself.
So, basically we have another "inadvertent book adventure" where I bring a new story to read to the Godzilla Family and my watch goes awry somehow, transporting us in. And, once again, we are split up, but this time with the girls meeting Snow White and her stepmother and the boys are who-knows-where. After that, things pretty much go on as usual. Again, man, trying to write that off-book rhyme for the Mirror was a slight toughie, but I'm proud that I managed to cook up something that made sense and hopefully works. And then we basically get Grimhilde's POV of the scene with Snow White meeting Prince Florian for the first time, which is yet another catalyst to set things in motion. Again, not much to break down, but I'm sure there will be more as the story goes on.
But for now, here are some questions:
If you were someone who found this note and read this beginning part, what would be going through your head?
If you found yourself transported into Grimhlde's castle somehow and met Snow White, what would you do?
What would you do when Queen Grimhilde came into the room?
What are your thoughts on Grimhilde's actions in this chapter?
And that about does it for right now. There's now one other story that I want to get started, and hopefully that and this one will be enough to tide you over until the next update I have for any of my other stories. I'm currently working through the second section of the next chapter of my first FNAF story, so there's that. And don't worry, I'm sure I'll get on a Godzilla kick soon enough…that is if a "Nightmare Before Christmas" one doesn't hit me first with fall coming soon.
As always, please read and review. Thank you!
