Well, I hope that you guys enjoyed the first chapter of this new story. I know that it's just a re-write, but I think that's what I need to do right now. So, how about we get back to it. Here we go with the second chapter of my new story: Miracles.
Chapter 2: The Goodbye?
"Excuse me? You didn't plan on telling me about our child?" -Matthew Casey
The fact that Gabby was even thinking about this was something that infuriated Matt, especially since he knew that his wife was well aware of just how much he's always wanted to be a father; yet, she was thinking about not telling him? Though, while he may not be happy with his wife at the moment, he felt horrible over what he just did: he made her cry. The reason? He may have raised his voice a bit, which was the last thing he needed to do; especially when Gabby needed to stay calm and just relax for the sake of their child, as well as her own life. So, Matt knew what he needed to do right now. "Gabby, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say that so harshly." Matt said, as he opened the covers. "Do you mind if I told you close?" Gabby smiled as Matt asked her that question, as she wanted that more than anything: she wanted her husband to hold her in his arms. "It's what I wanted the morning after we conceived our child."
Matt sighed, as he knew that he walked right into that one as he took off his sandals and proceeded to sit down in Gabby's hospital bed with her. After which, he wrapped his arm around her and smiled as he went to cover them both up with the blanket she had on her bed. After which, he felt Gabby cuddle up to him and smiled as he got comfortable; only to turn his head and press his lips to her forehead, something which made Gabby smile. "You like that feeling?" Gabby agreed with her husband, as she most certainly does. "I missed the feeling of being in your arms." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that. "I missed having you in my arms. It's a nice feeling, especially considering I'm holding both you and our son in our arms." Gabby looked up at Matt when he said that. "How do you know we're having a son, when I didn't tell you?" Matt sighed. "You were asleep, so I read the letter you left for me." Gabby agreed.
After all, that makes sense. "You let me sleep?" Matt agreed with Gabby. "You need your energy because you're going to be tired." Gabby agreed with Matt, before letting out a sigh. "That is, if I survive." Matt shook his head, as that was the last thing he wanted to hear his wife tell him. "Hey, can we not think that way, Gabby?" Looking up at Matt, Gabby bit her lip. "Matt, it's the reality. I could die because of this. I just…I wanted to give you so bad, that I felt the need to do it. Matt, the baby was viable, so I thought it was your chance to finally be a dad to our child." Matt smiled as Gabby told her that, well aware that was the case. "Now, this brings us back to the question I asked you before I got in bed with you. You didn't plan on telling me about our child?" Gabby sighed. "The truth is, Matt….I hadn't thought that far ahead. In fact, I didn't even think I would make it this far." Matt agreed. "How far along are you?"
Gabby smiled. "I'm 37 weeks. This was as far along that I was comfortable going. Though, I need to tell you…I have been in town for the past couple months." Matt nodded, as that makes sense. "I get that, you wanted to be in town for when you want to give birth." Gabby was surprised that he wasn't mad. "You aren't mad?" Matt shook his head as he wrapped his arm around Gabby and got her to lay down some more, only to turn his head and press his lips to her forehead. "This is my fault. Had I not told you those horrible things, then maybe we would've gone through the pregnancy together." Gabby agreed with Matt, only to feel him place his hand on her stomach. In the process, she felt his wedding band. "You still wear your wedding band?" Looking down, Matt nodded. "And I will until the day I die. Gabby, you're the only woman I want to be with." Gabby agreed with Matt and smiled.
After all, she felt the same way: he was the only man she wants to be with for the rest of her life, just like he was the only man she could ever risk her life to make a father. "Good, because I want to be with you again, Matt. I mean that. Whatever we need to do, I'll do it." Matt agreed with Gabby. "Well, you can move home." Smiling, Gabby agreed with her husband. "I wouldn't think of taking your child away from you. That is, if I survive." Matt sighed, as that was the last thing he wanted to hear: her doubt whether she'd survive, just like he did. That was the wrong thing for him to do, and the last thing they need to worry about right now. So, as Matt grabbed Gabby's hand and intertwined their fingers, he turned his head and pressed his lips to her forehead; after which, he told her precisely how he feels right now. "Gabby, how about we just concentrate on thinking positively? Let's think about the best possible outcome."
Looking up at Matt as he said that, Gabby smiled as she hoped that was going to be the outcome. "I already hope that's going to be the outcome, as I want to have a second chance with you, Matt; I want to have a second chance at a life with you, as well as our son." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, only to his lips to the back of her hand. After which, he kissed it and smiled as he continued to hold her hand with their fingers intertwined. "I promise, we're going to have that. I just have this feeling that we're going to have that. I'm sorry that I didn't feel that way until now, but I know that's what you need to hear from me: that you're going to be okay, rather than be scared and tell you that you're going to die." Gabby agreed, as that was precisely what she needed to hear her husband tell her: that she was going to be okay, and that she was going to be here to meet their son Andrew. "I want to meet Andy."
Matt agreed, only to make a joke. "You already did, Gabby." Looking up at her husband, Gabby was confused. "Unfortunately, he died in the line of duty." Matt said, prior to laughing a bit; however, Gabby didn't find it funny. "Matt, this isn't a laughing matter. I could die giving birth to our son." Matt agreed with Gabby as he held her in his arms, well aware that was the case. "Hey, I know that. Humor is just my way to forget that as I support you through this. Gabby, this is hard." Gabby agreed with Matt, well aware that this was hard for him; she could just feel it in the way he was holding onto her as tight as he was. "I can feel it in the way you're holding onto me quite tight." Matt sighed, as he was scared. "I'm just scared to let you go, as I don't want to lose out on this second chance to be with you forever." Gabby agreed with her husband, as she felt the same way. "Are you going to take some time off to be with me?"
Turning his head to look down at Gabby, Matt nodded as he most certainly is going to take some time off to be with her. "Hey, don't even worry about that, Gabby; of course, I'm going to take some time off to be with you. We need to move you home, and I want to spend some time with our son." Gabby smiled, as she liked the sound of that. "I promise, Matt. I'm trying my best to survive. I want to survive more than anything." Matt agreed with his wife, as he already knew that was the truth; of course, she wants to survive and meet their son. "Gabby, I already know that. You don't need to tell me that. You just need to know that I'm here so that you can lean on me." And the moment Matt said that, someone else decided to add to the conversation. "And you can lean on me too, Gabby." Turning their heads when they heard that recognizable voice, Gabby smiled when she saw her brother Antonio. "Antonio."
Antonio smiled when Gabby said that. "Why didn't you tell me that you were going to the hospital today, Gabby? I would've come with you?" Matt then looked at Antonio. "I think she asked someone to call me here, so that I could be here for her when she gives birth to our child." Gabby agreed, as that was precisely what she wanted: Matt to be here when she gave birth. "I love you, Antonio. I really do. But, this is something me and Matt need to do together. If this is the end of my life…" Matt then corrected his wife. "Which it isn't." Gabby nodded as she looked up at Matt, prior to continuing what she was saying. "I just wanted it to be me and Matt, so that we could talk about everything and make sure that we're in a better place before we have the baby; the baby which I was worried I'd have to give up, had I told you about it." Matt agreed with Gabby, as that made sense. Of course, she'd be scared of that.
And while he wishes he could tell her that her fears were unfounded, he knew that he couldn't. He probably would've asked her to get an abortion, so that she could save her life. "Gabby, I hate that I have to admit this…but, I probably would've asked you to have an abortion had I known that you were pregnant. After all, you could die because of this." Antonio agreed, well aware that was the case. "At least you're here, Matt." Matt agreed with Antonio, as he felt the same way as he placed his hand on her stomach. "There's nowhere I'd rather be, other than here with my beautiful wife." Surprised, Antonio looked at the both of them. "You're still married?" Turning her head, Gabby decided to inject a bit of humor into the room. "Me? Let this hunk go? Fat chance!" Turning her head when she said the word hunk, Gabby smiled at her husband. "You've been working out." Matt agreed with his wife and smiled.
After which, he leaned in and kissed her softly. "All for you, babe." Gabby agreed with Matt. "I can't wait to see our son sleep on your chest." Matt agreed, as he felt the same way. "I can't wait to have him asleep on my chest." And the moment Matt said that, Gabby got nervous. "Well, you may have him on your chest sooner than you wanted to." Matt was confused as Gabby told him that. "What do you mean? And why is the bed wet?" Gabby bit her lip and then looked at Antonio. "Doctor." Antonio then realized what just happened, so he got up and rushed to get the doctor. Meanwhile, Gabby looked at Matt and placed her hand on his face. After which, she stared into his eyes. "Matt. I want you to remember how much I love you. I know you don't want goodbyes, but my water just broke." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that. "Gabby, I got you. I promise." Gabby agreed with her husband and teared up.
Meanwhile, Matt leaned in and kissed Gabby for what could be her last time.
Gabby's Thoughts:
As I kissed Matt this afternoon, I took a breath due to the fact that I knew that this could very well be the last kiss I ever share with the man I love. The last moment I could ever have with the man I dream, who I love more than anything in the entire world; and it was all due to the fact that I decided to be pregnant. And now, I could be throwing that all way. But, did I?
