Chapter 6
Wendy sat up and blinked and looked around the area. The last thing she could remember was jumping into a cup of water with Azuki. From the distance a woman was snoring loudly in the room. She turned her head to see Azuki lying on a bed with white sheets not too far away. Looking around Wendy was in an infirmary there were several dozen beds on both sides of the room. A few windows with currants allowed natural light to peak past the shades. This place had a comforting vibe; the walls were made out of a soft Magnolia wood. Wendy was lying on a small medium sized bed with white sheets, Carla was quietly curled up into a ball asleep. A few plants darted the room, where were they? This last few days? Hours? Wendy wasn't sure it had been a disaster ever since that weird thing appeared on her chest. Then her attack, waking up in the prison cell and now she was here. Lightly Wendy shook Carla awake who slowly shifted in her sleep before finally coming too. "Carla, where are we?"
"An infirmity of some sorts. Likely Azuki brought us here," Carla said, yawning, rubbing her paws against her eyes. "It's best if we don't wake that thing. What concerns me is why did all those people attack you? And do you think it has anything to do with Lucy and Erza acting weird?"
Wendy thought for a moment the two of them had been acting odd since arriving in Nama town. They had always been protective over her since she got sick the one time. Forcing her to move in with them, she knew more than Wendy was ever going to admit. Even their relationship was obvious, but not why they were so protective over her. Some missions were always a bit more….careful than other missions. Wendy pondered about the circle and snapped out of her thoughts to see Carla looking at her concern. "I was thinking about Lucy and Erza," she said. "Let's go find out where we are and we'll let Azuki sleep." Carla flew into Wendy's hand and with that the two of them slipped out of the infirmary into a hallway. With strong wooden doors a wide open hallway with decent light came into the flutter.
There was something oddly family to this place. Bringing back memories from her young years standing in an open field. With Lady Anna overlooking the field. "I've been here before." Wendy muttered to herself as she walked through the hallway. Soon without reason or rhyme she started opening doors as everything in this place made complete sense to her. It was Krisita medical wing located in the center of the old village. Small tears welled in her eyes as a warm feeling filled her heart. With that Wendy ran through the hallway and ran up the stairs to the third story. This building should have 4 stories including an attic and a basement. Running up to the second story she placed her hands against the wall. Which was using a rather thick, colorful wood and that's when she found it. A small notch in the wall which she clicked Carla was flying behind her as a set of stairs appeared. Leading directly to the attic Wendy walked up to them.
Much to Carla grumbling at her. Stepping inside the attic a cold draft from a badly designed room that lacked insolation. A small glass window that overviewed the town and a sense of happiness filled Wendy. Whenever Lady Anna would get mad at her this was the place she'd run too. The entire room was empty with only dust and cobwebs to fill the room. It was clear this room was barely used. Some of the rooms were starting to rot away or had damage that had gone unnoticed. Magic was buzzing in the air as Wendy moved over to one of the woods and it was barren. She was around six or seven before they were vaulted into the future. Before the dragons disappeared Wendy had drawn a picture on the wall. Which was now gone. "Immuseti village," Wendy said. Carla looked at her with confusion, "This is the place I was born. I was born in that infirmary or that's what Lady Anna said. Which means we are in Krisita medical firmary, the only medical facility in the entire village, well at the time."
"Immuseti village?" Carla asked.
"So if this place is still here? Does that mean-" Wendy turned around and quickly darted out of the room. Which rapidly evolved into a run. As she dashed down the stairway moving through the hallway and Carla flew behind her. But was rapidly lost as Wendy shoved herself into a giant crowd of people. And very quickly the place was far different from her childhood. There were tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands if not upwards of a million or more. Houses and buildings with designs unlike anything Wendy had ever seen before. Sniffing the area it carried the old sunny sickle smell that liked to dangle. Sea salt, sea water and more scents one could spend years describing. Open food stands were everywhere and they spoke in a most robust language. Like listening to people singing across the city it was truly beautiful. Amosla. It was the first language Wendy had learned to speak and would still practice it. Even when she had no one to practice with.
She quickly darted; it was very easy to see what was newer and the older roads. Even if they had been replaced Wendy moved swiftly. Pushing down a complex maze through the city moving towards the very center of the town. The sun was high over the town in the distance was a small port that ran down a long river. There were only 3 ways out of this town. One of them was a bridge, the other was a port and finally there was a single entrance into the city. It was thriving in ways Wendy could not describe.
It was surreal for her. This place Wendy could barely remember, but it felt off. All these buildings that were newer to her knowledge. All these buildings and people felt like they belonged, but it wasn't familiar to her. Moving into what would be the older part of the city one that Wendy was far more familiar with. Lady Anna said that with time her memories would return, but when? It appeared they only came back in small drips or weird dreams. She walked down the old roads with architecture which stood out compared to other parts of the city. And at last Wendy found it. A small one story tall round building with a dome surface. Small glass round windows, sitting on a quarter acre lot with some grass and trees. Leading up to the house was a stone pathway which she had been traveling on. The building was neatly tucked away and kept in good condition. An old memory resurfaced to Wendy who could only smile. It was Anna Heartfillia's old home. Walking down the pathway Wendy rubbed her hands against its smooth surface.
She muttered a word in Amosla only for a door to reveal itself. An old self defense magic that was casted by Anna's husband. As an emergency identification system to help prevent thieves or intruders. The door slid open and Wendy slipped into the house; it was Anna that had taught her this. There were other ways to get into the house; it was a two story house with a basement and a really small attic. It had been 400 years since she was last in this house. It was a moderately sized place that could easily fit a family or 4 comfortably, but not too large. As homes in Fiore had always been small compared to other countries. More tightly placed together in very intrinsic patterns.
The floor of the house was made out of wood. It was clear this house hadn't been used for some time. As thick layers of dust were on the walls and on the floor. There were thick black drapes that covered the windows. Walking through the room it was clear how solid the house was built. As no echoes followed when she walked in and the walls were thick that one would break their fist trying to punch it. The house was devoid of any furniture minus the drapes. Wendy moved into the kitchen area and was surprised to see a sink and a kitchen. Moving over to it out of curiosity Wendy turned on the faucet as water emerged. Wendy switched it off so the house had undergone some renovations. Which was nice moving back into the front room where there was a small staircase that led up to the second floor. There were three bedrooms and a fourth one that could be converted into one. Plus a small storage space on the 1st floor, Wendy searched the entire house. There was no furniture it was clear to her the house had been unoccupied for quite a while.
Wendy moved to another section and pulled down a wooden ladder. That was in need of being replaced, but with it. She went up the ladder and entered into the small attic. That was added only a few years before they moved into the future. No furniture made out of the same wood as the rest of the house. It was rather small, nightly committed, but it was hers. Far more comfortable than her room in Lucy's apartment. Lady Anna had given it to her to sleep and play away from the boys. Natsu and Gajeel were given their own room. Sting and Rouge shared a room and Anna had her own personal quarters. This was Wendy's old room. It was a small narrow walkway from the ladder that led to a small area for Wendy's things. And at the far side was a small area for a decent sized bed, black curations covered the window. "So after 400 years I'm finally back." Those words were far more somber, very somber at the thought. Wendy sat down on the wooden area where a bed should go and looked down in silence.
It was quite across Immuseti village on that day. Wendy couldn't quite remember what happened, but she stood outside. Tears flowing, everything was blurry for the girl. Nor could she quite remember why she was crying when something warm wrapped around her. Grandeeney had left her alone for a 'reason' she could not remember, but would return shortly. This was her first time being alone with other humans and not having her mother around. That's when Lady Anna appeared and looked at her. She came to her knees and looked Wendy directly in the eye. "Come here," she said, wrapping her arms around Wendy. "Your mom is going to be back soon. I promise what she's doing is important." Wendy ran into her arms and sobbed for a while as the woman just held her.
After Wendy had calmed herself the woman led her down the street. There were so many things she didn't understand it was overwhelming compared to the small cave. So the two of them walked through Immuseti village until they came up towards Anna's house. Wendy looked at her as she had uttered those words allowing Wendy to walk into the home. It was small and comfy with beautiful furniture that was all blurry to her. "Shush the others are asleep. And I have a special place for you." Wendy wanted to say something and so the two of them quietly snuck through the building. Her eyes glistened. It was a beautiful room. Filled with small pictures, a small dresser and a hay mattress with a blanket. "I know it's not like your cave, but I thought you'd like to have your own personal space. Away from the boys…"
