Hey guys I'm back with another chapter. I know I do this a lot, but I just read an amazing story called Fear the Reapers by Alsas1975 based on the Don't Fear the Reaper challenge. I have read at least 5-10 stories based off that particular challenge, but I think Fear the Reapers is hands down one of the best ones I have ever read. So, if you haven't read it, I would highly recommend it.
I absolutely love to read your reviews! Please feel free to review as much as you like. It honestly makes me want to continue these stories. If y'all have any ideas tell me. I'll see what I can do about working them in. Also, if something doesn't seem to make sense feel free to call me out on it. I'm always looking to grow.
Also, to everyone who has favorited and followed my stories THANK YOU. I started reading fanfiction close to 7 years ago and I never imagined I would have close 430 people who were so interested in my stories they would follow them. Not to even mention the fact that between my 3 stories I have 281 favorites. Just wow. so sincerely from the bottom of my heart Thank You.
Now onto the story.
Harry stood still in shock as his mind struggled to comprehend the sight before him. Standing there before him was Kuben Blisk and Jack Cooper looking perfectly healthy and distinctly not dead. As his mind was trying to catch up Blisk spoke up.
"Alright, listen up. We don't have a lot of time before the magic that sustains us runs out. Before we died both Cooper and I infused our family magic with a decent amount of our own. We did this with the idea of being able to talk to a descendant that embodied our personalities and beliefs. We figured that over the years our lines would weaken, and this gave us an opportunity to attempt to restrengthen them. Normally this would happen after the descendants in question had gone through some struggles, so they had an understanding of the world similar to us.
So, imagine our surprise when instead of waking up to an adult we found ourselves looking at a child. We were unsure of why this happened so instead of immediately trying to communicate with you we waited and watched to see if the magic was right. Well, lo and behold you turned from an abused little brat into a fledgling warrior that is already almost worthy of carrying on the family names. Well, me and Cooper decided after seeing this that we would appear at different points in your life. Because he is more emotionally and socially aware he would introduce himself to you when you were in a moment of extreme emotional turbulence to help you calm down and to offer some advice. While I was going to introduce myself after you got a colossal ass whuppin. Then I would also offer you some advice before sending you back out to finish the fight. However, when you bonded with this charming lady it drew on not only your magic, but the family magic to bind you together. This in turn caused the family magic to force us to come out and talk you before it runs out and we rejoin our complete selves on the other side."
"Okay, so let me get this straight. You, two bound parts of yourselves to the family magic so you could talk to a descendant that matched a certain set of characteristics. I happen to be that descendant and when I bonded with Daphne it used a large amount of the magic sustaining you. Is that right?"
"Yup, sound about right." Harry just shook his head in amazement while Cooper picked up where Blisk had left off.
"Okay, I am going to hurry through this because the magic that keeps us here is dangerously close to running out. After being around for long enough Lady Magic will grant Magical Houses with what is known as family magic. Us, Potters have a more passive magic than most. Our family magic allows us to replenish our magic much faster than an average wizard as well as the ability to master silent spells.
The Blacks on the other hand have much more active family magic. Theirs gives them what they call "Battle Focus". It basically has two functions. The first allows your mind and body to think and react faster. The second function of it allows them to be as close to a natural at Occlumency as you can get without actually being one. You experienced this when you discovered what Dumbledore had done to you. Your burning hot rage was tempered and honed into a fuel or weapon to be channeled to a specific purpose instead of just a blind rage. This is exceptionally useful for combat or when dealing with politics. It is a large part of why your granduncle Arcturus was so feared." As Cooper finished speaking the two men began to fade.
"Seems it's time for us to move on." Blisk observed. "Listen kid I can say without a doubt that you have made both us and your parents proud. But there is some advice I have to give you before we disappear. Don't be afraid to do what needs to be done to keep yourself and your lady friend here alive." Blisk paused here and walked up to Harry, before placing a hand on his shoulder and giving him an encouraging smile.
"It doesn't matter what the people here think about you. Remember that no matter what the news or that fucking headmaster of yours says your family is proud of you. If there is one thing that Cooper and I found out, it's that people can and always will try to bring down those who are better than them. Never let anyone insult your family, yourself, or those you love. Never explain yourself. Your friends don't need it, and your enemies won't believe it. Above all else, remember that the only thing that is important is your family and your beliefs. Everything and everyone comes secondary to those two things." By this point the only thing that remained of Blisk and Cooper were their voices and the feel of Blisks hand on his shoulder. In that moment standing before his ancestors and with the woman he loved Harry felt more comfortable and confident than he ever had. He felt tears come to his eyes as the feel of Blisks hand was joined by the feeling of Cooper's on his other shoulder.
"I swear that I will protect my family, and that I will become someone you can be proud of." He swore as the two men completely faded away. He felt Daphne lace her hand in his as she embraced him. No words were spoken as Harry simply soaked in the feelings of love coming from Daphne. He met her eyes and blinked, then he was gone.
Ollivander's Shop
Harry opened his eyes to see a bright violet dome surrounding him and Daphne. As he gazed at the dome his attention was drawn to a point just over Daphne's shoulder. Every several seconds ripples formed disrupting the otherwise smooth dome of energy. Through the heavy violet tint Harry could make out the man that had accompanied Daphne angrily casting spells at the dome. It took Harry a moment to place the man's face. The moment he did Harry scowled, the man hurling curses was Daphne's father Lord Greengrass. Unnoticed by Harry, the violet dome started to gain a scarlet hue as his magic flared in response to his anger. His attention was drawn from the angry man by Daphne shifting in his embrace. As if sensing that both inhabitants were awake, the dome of magic surrounding the couple began to shrink. When the dome reached the couple, it covered both of them in a violet layer of magic before seeping into their skin.
The magic had hardly been absorbed before Lord Greengrass roughly grabbed Daphne's arm and pulled her away. Harry was shocked, so much so that they almost made it out of the shop before he exploded into action. Lord Greengrass was picked up and slammed against the wall cracking it and breaking the hold he had on Daphne's arm. Lord Greengrass groaned, and a shiver of fear went through the former Death Eater before he suppressed it. The boy that had been holding his worthless excuse of a daughter was now standing before him. The boy's eyes were bright with anger and there wasn't a trace of fear to be found. The child before him couldn't have been more than 13, the age of a first year Hogwarts student. Yet here he was, a child that had somehow managed to drive a spike of fear into one of Voldemort's Inner Circle.
"I am going to spell this out for you very simply, and in small words so your inbred brain can understand." Harry explained calmly. "I am Lord Potter-Black and Daphne is my soulmate, meaning that we are betrothed in the eyes of Magic itself. As we are both heads of powerful families, I know you are aware of what soul bonds are and how to recognize them. Yet, for some reason you thought you could separate me from my soon to be wife. Now to me that is unacceptable, so unacceptable in fact that it could almost be considered Line Theft." Lord Greengrass's face rapidly paled. Line Theft was a serious crime, with the maximum penalty being thrown through the Veil.
"Ah, I see that you understand. Now, here's what's going to happen. You are going to walk out of this shop and never attempt to contact Daphne ever again. But, if you had any thoughts of taking your newfound anger out on Astoria or your wife, I'm going to nip that shit in the bud right now. If you lay a single finger on them in anger or say something rude like you did to Daphne, I will find you and introduce you to my friend." Harry drew his fighting knife from its concealed position and held it up where Daphne's father could see it. "If you understand nod your head. Don't say anything just nod." Lord Greengrass gave a slow nod in response. Harry stepped back and allowed Lord Greengrass off the wall, and he hurried out of the shop. The second the door closed Harry exhaled and sheathed his knife before turning around. Immediately, Daphne slammed into him, capturing him in a searing kiss.
"Are you going to introduce me to your little friend here? Or am I going to have to introduce myself." Harry pulled away with a blush as Charlus walked toward them.
"Grandfather, may I introduce you to my betrothed Daphne Greengrass Heiress to the House of Greengrass. Daphne my Grandfather Charlus Potter."
"Pleased to meet you sir." Daphne said with a curtsey.
"The pleasure is mine." Charlus said with a smile. The moment was broken by a voice Harry didn't recognize.
"I must say Mr. Potter that was the most excitement I've seen in my shop in many years!" The voice in question belonged to an eccentric looking elderly man with frizzy white hair. "Now, that the excitement is over with let's get you and your fiancé a wand. Shall we?"
Before Harry had a chance to respond Daphne spoke up.
"We would love to sir." Ollivander nodded and spun around leading the small group between the towering shelves and through a door tucked into the back corner of the shop. The door led into a decently sized room. It was organized neatly except for a worktable right in the middle cluttered with different woods and various other objects. Ollivander immediately headed over to a long counter attached to the wall with various drawers both under and over it. With a wave of his wand the drawers opened and began to spit out the materials stored within. Within seconds the counter was covered with materials.
"Now Mr. Potter, I want you to come here and wave your hand over the materials one at a time starting with the wood. When you feel your magic reaching out to one set it aside for your wand. After you are done, we will move onto Ms. Greengrass." Harry followed the instructions and had just begun the search for his wand's materials when Charlus spoke.
"Before you start Harry. I expect no word about this will reach Dumbledore or the Ministry."
"Of course not!" Ollivander exclaimed, almost looking almost offended at the thought. Seeing that the exchange was over Harry began the search for his materials.
Several Hours Later
It had taken Harry and Daphne about an hour total to find all of the materials for their new wands. As soon as they finished, Ollivander flicked his wand and put all of the unused items back, leaving a pristine workshop. Then he directed them to some nearby chairs and got to work, muttering to himself all the while.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, he turned and walked over to them with a wand in either hand. Harry, Daphne, and Charlus stood and faced the master wandmaker. Ollivander smiled at the teens before
"Mr. Potter, Mrs. Greengrass. I must say that these wands were quite the challenge to create. I present to you, your wands." He stopped talking and extended his hands to the teens. Harry and Daphne hesitantly picked up their wands. Almost instantly a shower of multicolored sparks shot out of the wands. Ollivander chuckled as he swiped some sparks off of his shirt.
"I can confidently say that was one of the strongest reactions I have seen from wands in quite some time. Now before you leave, I do need to tell you about your wands. Both of you have very…" Ollivander thought for a moment. "Unique wands."
"We'll start with you, Mr. Potter. 12 inches, Ebony, Powdered Claw of an Elder Hungarian Horntail, and Basilisk Venom. Quite the combination if I do say so myself. The Ebony wood shows a great affinity with death, which considering your families past as well as your own is not surprising. The Claw came from a remarkably old and battle-scarred Horntail. This shows like most of your family you will most likely have a great affinity for Battle and Combat magic, as well as an unbreakable loyalty to family. Finally, the Basilisk venom, that venom was taken from the last known wild Basilisk after it was slain over 500 years ago. As I'm sure you know Basilisk venom is one of the deadliest substances known to wizard kind. Overall, a very sturdy wand, which will be well suited for Battle and Dueling. You, Mr. Potter, are going to have an interesting future. Now to Mrs. Greengrass."
"9 ½ inches, Pine, the Feather of a Thunderbird, and Tooth of a Griffin. A very temperamental combination. The Pine is soft and slightly flexible and shows a great resilience. The Thunderbird feather came from a nesting mother and symbolizes a sharp mind and fearsome temper. It strikes like lightning, powerful and fast. The griffins tooth you picked actually came from one of the Potters old griffins and shows great bravery and a fearless nature. A wand well suited for Transfiguration and Charms. Overall, an excellent companion to your fiancée's." Charlus, who had been standing silently watching spoke up with a small grin.
"How much do we owe you Ollivander? As much as I would love to stick around and reminisce about old times, we need to get Daphne settled at the house as well as take care of some family business."
"Of course, Charlus, I didn't mean to hold you up. You know how I get about these things. That will be 30 Galleons for both wands." Harry fished out his money pouch and retrieved the required currency depositing it in Ollivander's waiting hand. With that done Harry gently intertwined his hand with Daphne's and they exited the shop ready to head home. Ollivander watched the young couple walk Charlus in tow.
"An interesting future indeed." With that he took a seat, waiting for the next student to step through the doors.
