In the hospital, Kara and the twins waited in the lobby while the doctors were tending to their father.
"What's taking them so long?" Anakin said. "Was Dad scratched really that badly?"
"You're not helping me calm down, Anakin!" Carmine said, nervously shifting his glasses.
"Will you two please settle down?" Kara said, looking at a magazine. "Coruscant has the best doctors, and Father is a lot stronger than just in his muscles."
"Yeah, and Super Strength Enchanteds are known to have hard-to-penetrate skin," said Carmine. "Only three things have been known to draw blood, one of them being werewolf claws!"
"Well, at least we know you two have been paying attention in class."
"How are you not panicking like us?!" Anakin said.
"How are you, a pair of men, panicking like this and saying women are overly sensitive?"
That got the twins to be quiet.
"There we are," said the doctor. "Everything looks in order, Your Majesty."
Qui-Gon was bandaged in the spot on his arm where he was given a tetanus shot just to be sure he was okay. The medics cleaned and bandaged the scratches on his cheek, but given the roughness of what led to it, they did a medical examination just to be sure.
Qui-Gon was relieved when he was allowed to get out of the hospital gown and return to his kids. Carmine didn't hesitate to jump in and hug his father the moment he saw him again.
"How are you feeling, Daddy?" Kara asked.
"A little dizzy," said Qui-Gon. "But the doctor says I'll recover just fine."
"I think all you really need is Gabby to give you a kiss." Anakin said.
"Grandpa!" Gabby exclaimed, rushing inside frantically.
"Speak of the angels."
All of Qui-Gon's grandkids except the babies rushed in frantically.
"Grandpa, are you alright?!" Boba exclaimed.
"What happened?" Omega said.
"Is it bad?" Lamenta finished.
"Children! I'm okay. It was just a scratch." Qui-Gon said, motioning to the bandage. "I'm alright."
"Um, that's a pretty big bandage," said Gabby. "I've gotten big boo-boos, but none of them needed a bandage that size!"
"How did this happen?" Lamenta said.
"That Scarlett woman used some kind of tea with black lamb's blood in it, and it made Garrett go crazy!" Carmine said.
"My dad did this?" Goldie gasped. "But he wouldn't hurt a fly!"
"We know, Goldie. It wasn't anyone's fault but Scarlett's. For now, the Commission took Garrett to be held until he's well again." Kara said more calmly. "They said because he's only half-werewolf, it may affect him differently. But he should be okay."
"This is all my fault." Comedia said, looking down. "If I hadn't been so obsessed with getting my dad on a date, no one would've gotten hurt."
"Comedia, this isn't your fault." Qui-Gon said. "That woman was targeting everyone. This kind of event was bound to happen sooner or later. She was a criminal."
Qui-Gon then picked Gabby up, and she kissed his unwounded cheek, which healed the one that was wounded. The doctor's visit just gave him enough time to wait for his granddaughter. And Lamenta got up to her grandfather to give him a kiss herself. She might not have the power to kiss and heal, but she wanted to give her grandpa a kiss just to show him her love and relief he was okay, and the same went from another kiss from Gabby. Qui-Gon never refused hugs and kisses from his grandchildren.
"Yeah, you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and she took advantage of you." Anakin said, scratching under Comedia's chin. "And she's gonna do some hard time for it. Speaking of which. I think these are yours."
Anakin held a few credits, the same amount Comedia paid for the tea.
"Thanks." Comedia said, putting her money back in her bag. "Still, I should've known better."
"Known better about what?" said a voice that had Comedia's ears falling.
"I'm so grounded," mumbled the alicorn.
Comedia sat with Carmine, Ki-Adi, and Ms. Susy, and they explained everything that happened.
"I was going to get Honeycrisp Oolong tea, my dad's favorite," said Comedia.
"It's true." Ki-Adi said.
"But the tea shop was out, so I met this kind lady… well, I thought she was kind, and she showed me her tea shop and sold me what I thought was just peach tea. But then I found out it was actually contaminated with Lust Juice, which is more commonly called love potion, but improperly named, as I've come to learn."
"Next thing we know, you're both acting all gushy like you're in a rom-com." Carmine said. "Comedia actually barfed a couple times."
"Carmine!" Comedia blushed. "So, yeah. It's my fault this happened. I didn't mean for all this to happen. I thought it was just gonna be one date and we'd just see what happens from there."
"And what made you think we'd be a good match?" Susy asked. "Out of curiosity."
"Well, you're both single parents with adopted children of different species than each of you, my dad needed someone to help him with coordination, you're a ballet teacher and good with kids and so far the only single woman near my dad's age who hasn't called him insane for having a horse for a daughter. And when I learned you had a rough romantic past too, it occurred to me both of you needed a light push back in the game. So, I thought with all you had in common, it might be a good match, but I also promised Carmine if it didn't work, I wouldn't push any further, because we both agreed neither of us wanted to see our parents get hurt again. Please don't be mad."
"Comedia, we're not mad." Susy said. "It was an accident, correct?"
"Yes."
"While it might not have been the best approach, I can't say I don't find it admirable that you just wanted to help your father."
"I'm not happy that you tricked either of us, Comedia." Ki-Adi crossed his arms, prompting Comedia to look down. "But, I do appreciate the effort, and you had good intentions. And at the same time, you did manage to help the royal family arrest another escaped convict who might've done more damage had you not gotten a good look at her. At the moment, we're lucky no one was seriously injured or killed because of this."
Comedia just hid herself in her wings, not needing to be reminded that someone innocent could've suffered much worse in this incident. She started to think she would never live it down.
"Comedia… what's the matter?"
"I wasn't even trying to play a prank. For once, I tried to do something serious, and I took every step seriously, and I still messed things up!" Comedia said. "Maybe my birth parents were right about me. Maybe I am just a screw-up!"
"Comedia Adira Evermare-Mundi! Don't you dare call yourself a screw-up. You are a very smart young mare with a very bright and spritely personality, as well as a lot of energy. I didn't give up on you when I realized you pranked everyone because you were crying for help, and I can see you didn't want me to give up on finding a special someone."
"It wasn't just that. I wasn't little when you adopted me." Comedia said, finally coming out from her wings. "I'm gonna be old enough to be on my own in less than four years, and I'm probably gonna have a family of my own someday, which means you'd be alone again, even if you did live with me and my future husband and kids. So, I thought I could help you find someone so you wouldn't be lonely even after I grow up."
Ki-Adi had to admit it was admirable what Comedia had tried to do; he couldn't be mad at her, especially knowing it was an accident and she was able to fix it in the end. He wouldn't punish her for this. But he needed her to know that although the future for his and anyone else's love life was uncertain, that didn't mean he didn't already have loved ones. He had many friends as well as his daughter, and he wanted to cherish every moment he had with each and every one of them.
"I am aware you will grow up someday, Comedia. And I intend on cherishing every moment of watching and helping you grow like the beautiful flower you are." Ki-Adi said. "I knew raising you as a single father wouldn't be easy, and I am fine with that. As for my love life however, if anything does prevent that from happening, it will only be because I refuse to be with a woman who will not care for you the same way I do, and I choose you each time, the same way I chose you when I decided to take you as my own."
"As for you, Carmine…." Susy said.
"I didn't even want to have anything to do with this!" Carmine said. "I told Comedia about how you were left at the altar, and I didn't want that to happen to you again, having your heart broken. Why do you think I never tried setting you up with anyone?"
"Carmine, that was a terrible day for me. It's true. And it's taken me years to move on, but that doesn't mean I can't find someone for myself if I so chose. I just never gave much thought as to when I'd be ready."
"Still, I feel bad that neither of us suspected something was up the moment you two started acting all lovey dovey. I don't even act like that with Caroline."
That had both the adults laughing.
"At least in the end, you all worked together, and everything is well again." Ki-Adi said. "But Comedia, you'll need to dispose of any more bags of that tea, if any."
"Don't worry. I'll go home right now and get rid of it." Comedia said, immediately taking off.
"Okay… I think I'll go check on my dad." Carmine said, also leaving, once again leaving Ki-Adi and Susy alone.
"Do you think we should tell them?" Ki-Adi asked Ms. Susy.
"Maybe not right this moment," said Susy. "We'll tell them when the timing is right for both of us."
"Agreed."
Earlier, on the walk to the hospital, they'd gotten to talking for real, this time without a magic spell. Putting it simply, conversations sparked, and then Ki-Adi asked Susy if maybe she would be interested in getting some coffee sometime, like a real date. After all, before they drank the tea, the date their children previously set up was actually going well. Despite the mishaps that happened, they figured… why not give a real date a try? After all, what first date didn't have some kind of mishap?
And with their kids both occupied at the moment... why wait?
"Shall we?" Ki-Adi said, offering his arm.
"Lead the way." Susy smiled.
And off they went.
