PAW Patrol the Movie alternate ending
He had just about gotten the breath knocked out of him from the impact, dangling over the drop he'd found himself hanging from after his death defying leap of faith. A very small part in the back of his mind wondered how he could have managed, but the rest of him wasn't interested. Still soaking wet and getting dripped on, he was just barely able to get a paw on the underside of the wreckage, which generated enough oomph to finally climb his way up from the busted section of tower which had cut another building shorter.
Catching himself from falling forward, he recovered some breath before looking up toward the blinking red light inside the crumbled building.
"Ryder?" He vocalized, then ran forward.
When the metal paneling came to an end, he immediately caught a glimpse of a sight for sore eyes, coughing and wheezing from a cloud of dust still clearing from around the destruction he lay amongst.
Instantly relieved the pup hopped down a few levels to slowly make an approach; his repeated addressment of his leader finally earned him his attention.
"Chase.." the boy sighed happily, laying back with a bit of a tired but also relieved look. "I can't believe you found me." After finishing this the boy tapped the flashing red shield light on his vest, which turned it a constant white.
"You can always count on me, Ryder." Chase nodded affirmatively. But then sparks glitching from some nearby cables became their immediate concern.
"Come on, we gotta get outta here!" Chase called, beginning to head toward the door.
"I can't," he heard Ryder say which made his eyes go a bit wide as he turned around to face him. "I'm stuck.." the boy's sad eyes looked defeated as he tried to push the big chunk of rubble off him only to get dusted with more debris that started him coughing again. But Chase wasn't willing to stop there.
"One three pull as hard as you can!" The pup decided, hopping up above him. "One.. two.. three!" Taking the boy's collar, he pulled as hard as he could while Ryder pushed on the rock as hard as he could. And he could tell by the strained sounds he made that there was pain behind it as well. Chase lost his tooth grip and fell back, as Ryder relented, laying his head back limply.
"It won't budge.." Ryder sighed in defeat, his brown eyes turning back to his pup when he'd recovered himself again. But Chase still wasn't willing to give up.
"One more try," he decided. Then as Ryder began to try again, Chase hopped up around him and dove under the slab he was trapped under. Finding a footing, he pushed up through his shoulders with a strength he was amazed by which he could feel was working as Ryder's leg brushed up against him in the struggle the boy had to get out.
Chase let out a grimace as he leapt for safety, however that safety soon came with a stab to his side that he didn't see coming.
"Chase?" Ryder queried, hearing the pup grimace a second time. Turning around though, he was shocked to see red drops falling along the invisible side of his pup where he was standing. Ryder would have hurried over but walking proved difficult with both legs under a lot of pressure from pain and likely breakage of some kind. So therefore he could only crawl in order to get to his pup as he sprawled over onto his left side, seething and grunting with a tightness to his limbs and expression.
"Oh no.." Ryder gasped, nearly touching the growing red puncture on his vest somewhere in the middle of his side.
"Ihn!- I'm fine.." Chase groaned, propping himself up off his opposite elbow, forcing himself to his feet even though it was excruciating.
He'd hold his breath to strongly wince, then take a gasp of a breath, and restrain a grunt even though this process would repeat itself.
"We gotta find Mayor Humdinger and make sure everyone is still safe." Chase groaned.
Suddenly there was an explosion and the sky was suddenly cleared.
"What was that?!" Ryder asked, squinting to peer out, even shielding his eyes from the sunlight coming in through the hole in the building.
"I don't know.." Chase replied, barely keeping himself on all fours with a wide stance. "Maybe Skye figured out how to stop that cloud catcher thing.."
"We've gotta get you out of here." Ryder said standing on his knees to wrap an arm around Chase to pick him up with quite a bit of protest.
"Ahn!" Ryder fell forward, having to drop Chase to catch himself face down. He grimaced heavily, as Chase grunted from bouncing off the ground and landing on his opposite side with a seething groan.
"Ih.. how are we gonna get out of here.." the boy had to wonder out loud as he pushed himself up onto his elbows, despite the broken glass and metal laying all over it.
"Aaahnn.. how can we?" Chase wondered.. taking his turn to feel defeated. Ryder's eyes lightened to see his despair, let his gaze drop thoughtfully. And when it came back up, he slowly rolled onto his back, slowly and carefully pulling a leg up to take something bright yellow from one of the pockets in his cargo pants. Holding it up so it unraveled for Chase to look up at, he looked at it briefly before locking eyes with the boy.
"By being a hero.." Ryder said, which got his pup's attention as a plan began to formulate between them.

Rocky and Marshall had pushed open the doors so they could let themselves, and the people they rescued, out safely. Now that they were out the explosion in the sky made all the difference in weather, now that the wind and rain had finally died down again.
"What's that?" Rubble asked, so squinting to point way up above them.
Skye falling through the air was scary for a moment, till she activated her pup pack to fly her back down to earth.
"Yay, Skye!"
"Awesome!"
"Way to go, Skye!" The pups called, running over to her as she touched down.
"That was totally awesome!" Zuma swagged.
"You're definitely my favorite pup!" Liberty gushed, having been fan-giggling all the way over to her.
"I hope Ryder got insurance on my copter." The cockapoo hoped, sheepishly composing her stance where she was, then merely a second or two later the remains of said copter smashed down several yards from them. The PAW Patrol shield came rolling over to her, as she took a seat where it came to rest next to her with a look of sadness across her face.
"That'll buff right out." Rocky commented brightly, earning him a distasteful look from the aviator pup.
Soon a door was pushed open and Chase grimaced as he pulled hard and fast to bring the long thin piece of debris out of the door's way. So Ryder's makeshift backboard could safely slide down the steps where Chase hit the ground in a heap at the bottom.
"Ryder!"
"Yes!"
"You're ok!" The pups gasped, running over to surround Ryder, as Chase looked up and decided to rise off the floor and turn around to face Ryder. Tongues bombarded the boy's face and he tried in vain to avoid the slobber. Laying out flat where he was gave him no chance to avoid it, so he just put up with it with a smile like always.
"Ok, ok, give him some air." Skye advised her friends, taking a step back so Liberty could move forward.
"How do you feel?" The dachshund asked the boy.
"Hehe! Covered in drool!" Ryder laughed, wiping the slobber from his face and flicking it off his hand.
"I can't help it." Rubble reasoned. "I'm a bulldog. My tongue is too me for my mouth. See?"
Everyone laughed with both the pleasure of the joking comment and the relief that their greatest adventure yet was finally over. Which was about this time that more doors opened to release the crowds, who descended into cheers and applause for the heroes of the day. The pups all looked up, initially surprised, but soon became proud knowing they were essentially thanking them for saving the day.
However, the only one among this crowd not cheering and clapping ducked his head and held his six furballs close.
"Time for me to get out of here." Humdinger mentioned, beginning to sneak away from the crowd.

Motion out of the corner of his eye earned his entire attention, but he couldn't say anything, because someone beat him to it.
"Hey you! Stop right there, Mr. Mayor!"
"Marshall, get this off of me.." He requested softly, seeming unusually calm at the moment.
"Sure." The Dalmatian replied, coming over to release the yellow harness. Then he noticed the red hole in his vest. "Chase, wha-"
"That's right, I see you there!" Liberty's voice interrupted his statement drawing his attention away again. "Get back here!"
"You can't stop me.. I'm the mayor! Hahaha!" Humdinger laughed, then ran.
"He's getting away!" Marshall cried, then looked to where Chase was he found nothing.
"Arf! Mini drone!" A small device on Skye's pup pack popped off and flew after the mayor. But just when it got close enough to hook him, a grappling line roped in around him first, kitties and all. The pups' expressions all lightened then they followed the cable all the way to its source.. right nearby by them.
Chase stood on the hood of his police car with his left foot forward and his left side exposed. His head was lowered and he appeared to hang himself rather than hold himself.
"Mayor Humdinger.." he announced breathlessly. "You are under arrest for gross negligence, public endangerment, and dog-napping."
"Yeah! Go Chase!" The pups barked excitedly. However, he heard their voices change rather drastically as his field of vision turned on its side, then faded into darkness.

When his eyes opened, he barely even noticed, until they'd blinked a couple times. He breathed a restricted deep breath, then realized something didn't feel right. His eyes shifted back like he'd had the visual range to see something. Then a hand softly fingered across his head between his ears and he recognized the touch instantly and felt completely safe. As soon as he was touched, the fog seemed to lift from around him, which brought to his senses where time had left off; however he didn't have the strength to react, nor did he want to.
"Humdinger?.." Chase mumbled, as the hand maintained their touch pattern.
"He's been arrested." Ryder said. "Thanks to you."
"And you?.." Chase wondered, keeping his gaze settled close to him, not even taking in their surroundings at all.
"We both got help, also thanks to you.." The silence, however, made him wait to respond, knowing that something else was coming.
"I told you you were a hero."
Never had he been so surprised to hear this, even though he could have imagined what his face looked like when he said it. And it brought a small smile to his face as a result.
"Psst, guys they're both awake." Liberty hissed to her friends outside the room then pushed the door open to come in. The five other PAW Patrol pups and their newest recruit hopped up onto some structures they'd set as the foot and side of the bed, all gathering at the foot to stare straight over at them excitedly.
"Hey pups.." Ryder smiled.
"Hey Ryder."
"Hi!"
"Sup dude!" Various pups responded. Liberty hopped over the foot board on the left side of Ryder's feet to slowly come toward Chase, who didn't move at all nestled where he was against Ryder's hip; facing away from him.
"How do you feel?" She asked him tenderly.
"Like I slept for a whole week and didn't get any rest out of it." The German Shepherd responded, his small smile remaining with genuine eyes.
"I'm sure you do.." Ryder said. "You got caught on a broken rebar after you rescued me.. packing the wound under your vest only slowed the injury down a bit."
"After you stopped Humdinger, you passed out," Marshall spoke up. "Backup arrived shortly after that to bring you and Ryder to the hospital for treatment."
"What?" Chase turned his upper half further toward his back with some restraint, but lifting his right foreleg seemed to give him more clearance to the wrappings around the upper part of his side, the thickest point positioned right near the middle of his ribcage, obviously protecting something.
He thought lowering his foreleg would help, but he soon seethed with the muscle that cramped on him and he tried not to just drop his paw back down against the other one. His grimace definitely shifted the mood in the room and he could tell by their faces. But as he remained still, he couldn't tell if staying that way was making it more or less painful.
"Easy does it, Chase." Ryder smiled, setting a hand on his shoulder which was comforting. "We can have the nurse get you something more for the pain. We'll be recovering for a little while."
Marshall left the group to leave the room, and Chase's eyes searched back and forth for a second like he was suddenly confused. But then his gaze turned his head to the right slightly, like he was thinking about rolling to look back again.
However, he refrained from trying knowing or at least dreading what that would feel like, even though he was curious to see more of Ryder in order to understand his statement more. Plus the feeling of laying in the same position for seemingly a long time was beginning to get uncomfortable, so he finally worked up the courage to at least try and get off his side by pulling his back limbs under him. But when a fire burned into his ribcage he grimaced and fell back onto his side, not that he'd really gotten off it in all honesty.
"Oh sweetie, lemme help you with that." A calm female voice said. Gentle hands reached between his back and Ryder's leg, and a thin sheet was pulled over him so they could join both corners together in order to pull him down toward the end of the bed a little more. His realization came with the observation that the sheet which had been over him was also under him to create the smooth sliding transition. Those hands, holding some kind of latex chemical smell, tucked his lower limbs under him a bit more, firmly grasping both shoulders to shift them more upright. In transition, the wince he squeezed his eyes shut for was understandable.
"Do not resist, little one." The lady told him softly. "It'll only make it hurt worse.. 'Don't wanna ruin the good doctor's work afterall."
He felt the sheet pull him closer to Ryder and then the lady turned his head to lay on Ryder's lap before disappearing for a moment.
The lingering ache in his side made him groan as he craned his neck back around to view the white wrappings around his upper abdomen, where the thickest part of the bandages left a lump from the medicated gauze that covered his wound. Exhausted by just seeing this, he swung his head back over to plop it down on Ryder's lap, a small part of him wondering if he'd just hurt Ryder by doing this. But as a cool presence pressed against his side firmly, his eyes began to see that he could look down the length of Ryder's body and he noticed the thickness of white that covered everything but his toes; which he didn't see often.
Lifting his head, the team watched the gears turning as he thought back through what he was seeing, when a tug on his foreleg drew his attention with a startled gasp. The needle that was inserted into his IV port withdrew, and it was then that he realized the lady who had been talking to him was wearing scrubs. Which led him to finally take in his surroundings in full detail, though the primitive design of a generic hospital room didn't take long to compute.
"When did we get here?!" He asked, realizing the blank spot in time from what he last remembered, and the moments after he awoke.
"Yesterday.." Marshall informed him. "After you apprehended Humdinger, you just couldn't stay conscious. Luckily, alternate emergency response vehicles showed up to take you and Ryder to the hospital."
"They brought in a special doctor to help you right here." Skye told him. "They said they needed only the best for the hero of Adventure City."
At first Chase was stunned to hear this, but after a long internal pause he grew a smile and nodded graciously.
"They got you patched up, and now we'll just work on managing your pain till you don't need medicine any more." The black lady nurse said, tapping him gently with her tender and unique flare. "Then you should be good as new, baby."
"Thanks.." Chase smiled at her.
"Of course, sweetheart." The lady smiled back early. "Just howl if you need anything." Then as she left the room, Chase turned to the group and then to Ryder, who nodded his confirmation.
Alrighty! So that was fun.. I've been wanting to do something like this for a while.. I felt the ending of the first movie was not quite as satisfying as it could have been so I have come up with something that does.
Also the I consistency with Ryder's rescue and injury(or lack thereof) was too big of a discrepancy to ignore so I worked that out too. The likelihood of survival from that was very low, but he has to 'cause this is a kids movie, which I get. But, he should have at LEAST sustained injury. I almost went more severe than this, but decided against it to kinda fit along the lines of the movie, because there was a lot they did right with it.
Moving on though, I'm ending this here, with the implication that the ceremony in the movie happens as is.. meaning after their complete or near complete recovery. But I have plans to do an alternate ceremony scene as well to go along with what I have just done. So whether you like the original ceremony or are curious about how this alternate ending might change the ceremony.. there's a little something both!
But I'll let you decide which you like better. As always it's a pleasure to entertain you with my work, and I'll see you again sometime! Thx!
