(Ayla's POV)

*The sun was out as we flew in the sky towards Spagonia. Which meant we were back in our normal forms*

Tails: Well, guys? Feel pretty good to fly like this?

Sonic: Not too shabby!

Ayla: Feels great to be back on the X Tornado again!

Tails: The Professor's just a hop and a skip with . . . *just then, he noticed something ahead* What's that approaching?

*A bunch of flying robots was coming towards us*

Sonic: Yup! Here comes the parade!

Tails: I've got this one, Sonic! X Tornado, battle mode engaged!

*The X Tornado turned into battle mode & we flew through the sky, battling any robots that got in our way & destroying them all. Just then, a giant robot m, shaped like a war ship, appeared in front of us*

Sonic: Wha - What is that thing!?

*Then I could hear Eggman laughing*

Dr. Eggman:*off-screen* Well, Sonic and Ayla! Prepare to be sunk!

Robot:*off-screen* Remember, Doctor. It is not yet complete. Handle it gently.

Dr. Eggman:*off-screen* Rrgh, silence!

Tails: Look like we've gotta beat that thing to get by.

Dr. Eggman:*off-screen* Go! Fire all weapons! *the ship fired at us, but we managed to destroy all the weapons that came our way. then we started to take out the cannons* Nrrargh! Why you fidgety little . . .!

*More projectiles came out way, but we destroyed them all before they hit us. Parts of the ship started to smoke as it began to go lower in altitude*

Robot:*off-screen* Further combat inadvisable, Doctor.

Dr. Eggman:*off-screen* Huh? Energy levels dripping? Grrah! What a disaster! Retreat!

*The ship dropped even further & disappeared. We started to go down too, a city appearing through the clouds*

Tails: Yay! We made it, guys!

*Sonic & I did a fist-bump. Now to find the Professor*

*Soon, we arrived at Spagonia University, but were met with bad news*

Tails: What!? Professor Pickle's been kidnapped!

*The person who told us this was a yellow male gecko with brown spots, brown eyes, pale yellow skin & wearing a light asparagus jacket with dark olive green edges over a maize sweater vest with metallic gold collar over a white shirt, a dark olive green tie, dark olive green pants, light asparagus socks, & brown shoes (look up "Q. Cumber (Mobian Gecko)" by "SwanGirl24" on "DeviantArt")*

Ayla: When did this happen!?

Q. Cumber: It was a little bit before the tremors hit. Dr. Eggman showed up with a whole pack of robots. They carried poor Professor Pickle off, lab data and all.

Tails: It can't be!

Sonic: That sure sounds like Eggman.

Ayla: No doubt about it.

Chip: What a horrible thing to do! We've gotta go help that Professor guy out, and fast! If he got kidnapped that long ago, he's got to be real hungry by now! And, and, if I was that hungry . . . I - I don't know how long I would last! I'd rather be dead!

*He fainted like he was dying. I rolled my eyes as I giggled. And I thought Antoine was dramatic*

Tails: I - I'm sure Eggman's feeding him. Even he's not that cruel.

Ayla: No. Just desperate to get what he wants.

Sonic: Okay, let's go and find the Professor!

*We went into town & started asking around about the Professor. Most got really scared when we told them the news. But some actually didn't seem all that concerned. One guy even said that he doesn't even show up for the Professor's class. One guy in particular was really worried, an old armadillo named Otto. Eventually, a little lynx girl told us that she saw Eggman's robots carrying the Professor west, towards the continent of Mazuri. We met up with Tails, got in the X Tornado & headed west*

*When we arrived in Mazuri, it was already night, which meant the the Werehogs were out. We stepped into a village & asked around. Some didn't even know what a Professor was. Our appearance scared a few of them. A few were acting very strange, like they were in a daze. Eventually, one of the villagers said that they saw a bunch of robots heading towards a nearby recently built Egg-Base. We ran into the base, destroying all robots that got in our way. Soon, we entered a room with an upside down bubble on the ceiling. An old green male turtle with gray eyebrows, a brown shell & wearing a red bow & brown shoes (look up "Professor Pickle (Mobian Turtle)" by "SwanGirl24" on "DeviantArt") was in the bubble, holding a sandwich. A table with a tea set, that had Eggman's face on it, was next to him*

Tails: Professional Pickle! Are you all right? We got here as fast as we could! *he & Chip flew up to the bubble, but the Professor seemed more interested in his sandwich at the moment* Professor?

Chip: Umm, hello?

Professor Pickle: How dare they call this culinary concoction food? Look here, do you see this sorry excuse for a sandwich? The bread should be no less than 3/4 of an inch thick. Upon it, one tablespoon of mayonnaise and a pinch of black pepper. *Sonic & I gave each other weird looks* The contents, FRESH cucumber, sliced THINLY if you please! Am I quite right, Tails?

Chip: I know I learned something here today!

Tails: P - Professor . . . It's good to see you haven't changed.

Professor Pickle: But tell me, what brings you here? The menu is hardly worth the trip, if you ask me.

Tails: N - No, Professor. We came here to rescue you!

*He pressed a button on the side of the bubble & the glass disappeared. Then the platform lowered to the ground*

Professor Pickle: Oh? Oh! I see, how rude of me. *he stepped off the platform* Right then, first things first! It's about time someone taught the chef here how to make a proper sandwich.

*He started to head in the opposite direction, but I stopped him*

Ayla: You can file a complaint later, Professor!

Sonic: Let's get out of here before Eggman's welcoming committee shows up.

Professor Pickle: Oh, yes. Quite. But let us be sure to collect the contents of that vault before departing. *using his new super strength & stretchy arms, Sonic broke down the door & Tails flew in. He came back out with a scroll* Ah, thank you. Those documents are our only hope for surviving this crisis. Let's go. There's no time to lose. I'm half starved after being fed nothing but those terrible sandwiches.

*Chip pulled out another chocolate bar*

Chip: Want some chocolate, Professor?

Professor Pickle: My, my! Don't mind if I do.

*We all left the base & headed back to Spagonia*

*When we got back to Spagonia University, Sonic & I were met with a big surprise. Almost all of our friends were here. Sally (look up "Sally Acorn" on "Archie Sonic Online Wiki"), Bunnie (look up "Bunnie "Rabbot" D'Coolette" on "Archie Sonic Online Wiki"), Antoine (look up "Antoine D'Coolette" on "Archie Sonic Online Wiki"), Rotor (look up "Rotor Walrus" on "Archie Sonic Online Wiki"), Dulcy, Cream, Cheese, Cosmo, Knuckles, the Chaotix, Rouge, & Shadow were all waiting for us. We were still in our Werehog forms, so I hid behind the door, afraid of what Shadow would think. When everyone saw us, they were very surprised*

Dulcy: Whoa! I didn't really believe Tails when he told us about your . . . Nighttime form, I didn't really believe him.

Vector: Gotta admit, that's an interesting look for ya.

Sonic: Meh, so we have to use extra shampoo now. *he looked at his shoes* Y'know, I always wondered if I'd get better traction on cleats. *then he saw Sally's surprised face & got nervous* Oh . . . Uh . . . Hey, Sal. I'm sure my new . . . Look must be a big shock for you.

*Sally just smiled & walked him, putting her hand on his cheek*

Sally: Oh, Sonic. No matter what you look like, you'll always be my handsome hero.

*Sonic smiled*

Sonic: Thanks, Sally.

*They shared a quick kiss, making most of us roll our eyes*

Rouge: By the way, where's Ayla?

Sonic: She's feeling a little insecure about her new appearance, so she's hiding behind the door.

*Hearing that made me hide further. Just then, I heard footsteps coming towards the door*

Cream:*off-screen* Miss Ayla, please come out. We don't care what you look like.

Cheese: Chao-Chao.

Cosmo:*off-screen* She's right. You know you'll always be our friend, no matter what.

Ayla:*in her mind* It's not exactly you guys I'm worried about.

*But I decided to get it over with & came out from behind the door. Everyone looked equally surprised, but quickly got over it, especially Shadow*

Shadow: I don't see what you're being so insecure about? You don't really look all that different than usual.

*I smiled & blushed at that*

Sonic: So, what brings you all here?

Bunnie: Tails called us. He explained what was going on and we thought you guys could use some help.

Antoine: Oui. We were just waiting for you to return with ze Professor so he could explain what was going on.

Sonic: Great. Those I'm surprised to see you here, Knuckle-head. I thought you'd be too busy guarding the Master Emerald.

Knuckles: I may be the guardian of the Master Emerald. But when the world gets this badly damaged, that's when I have make an exemption.

Ayla: What about the Master Emerald?

Knuckles: Don't worry. It's hidden in safe place on Angel Island.

Sonic: By the way, where's Amy?

Rotor: She said she'd catch up later. She has something to take care of.

*Sonic looked a bit relieved*

Ayla: Oh, by the way. This is Chip.

Chip: Hi, nice to meet you. *he took out a whole bunch of chocolate bars* Anybody want some chocolate?

*Everyone looked a little surprised by the question, but most of them excepted a bar, especially Charmy, who immediately started eating it*

Espio: Uh . . . Thank you.

Professor Pickle: Now then, if I may explain. These ancient documents are known as the Gaia Manuscripts. They tell the legend of a disaster that befell our planet some tens of thousands of years ago.

Tails: A disaster . . .?

Professor Pickle: Quite. And according to the Gaia Manuscripts, this isn't the first time the planet has been broken apart into pieces. *we all looked at each other in shock* The cause lies at the very core of the planet. All the phenomena we've witnessed are direct results of one creature. The hyper energy organism spawn at the planet's core, Dark Gaia.

Knuckles: So how do we stop this Dark Gaia and put the world back together?

Professor Pickle: Luckily, Dark Gaia has yet to be fully reborn. We most likely have Dr. Eggman's pre-mature wake up call to thank for that. *I rolled my eyes. as if that was a surprise* If we act now, we may be able to restore the planet by returning power to the Chaos Emeralds. Sonic, Ayla, you must travel to each of the temples listed in the Gaia Manuscripts. The planet's power will restore the Chaos Emeralds, and in turn, the Chaos Emeralds will restore the planet and help it heal naturally.

Sally: And of course, the Freedom Fighters will help out in any way that we can.

Bunnie: You got that right, Sally-Girl.

Antoine: Oui.

Rotor: I'll get started on some weapons to take down Egg-Head's robots.

Dulcy: With all of us working together, we'll have the world fixed in no time.

Knuckles: And I'll pound that Dark Gaia so far back into the ground, he'll wish he had stayed down there!

Vector: Don't forget about the Chaotix. We'll just take this case as an IUO.

Charmy: Yeah!

*Espio just bowed ninja style*

Rouge: I normally don't do this kind of thing for free, but if it means getting the Chaos Emeralds back to their original glory, I'll make an exception.

*Shadow just nodded*

Professor Pickle: Oh, thank you all.

*While everyone else was either helping the Professor research the Manuscripts, build weapons for the coming battle, or getting in contact with friend & family around the world to make sure they were okay, me, Sonic, Chip, & Tails made it back to Mazuri, only to find Eggman threatening the villagers with his robots*

Yawa (a male gazelle): What do you want here, Eggman!?

Dr. Eggman:*laugh* Fear not, my good villagers! If you all behave, I won't have to do anything nasty. All you need to do is tell me where the Temple of Gaia is.

*One little lion cub boy was the first to speak up*

Kwod: We're not telling you anything!

*He picked up a rock & threw it. It hit Eggman on the head, making the robot attached to his Egg-Mobile laugh at him. He pushed the robot head back down & glared at the villagers*

Dr. Eggman: So you dare to defy me, do you? *that's when Sonic & I made our entrance, in our normal forms, me on my board & Sonic zooming in. he hit them with spin dashed & I sliced them up with my Ring Blades* Wh-Whaat!? Sonic! Ayla!

*Then we landed in front of the villagers, making them all cheer for us*

Sonic: Yo, Eggman. *Chip landed next to us* Thanks for that little skydiving adventure the other day.

Ayla: And as payback, how about a knuckle-sandwich with a side of smack-and-cheese?

Dr. Eggman: I should have known you two would still be alive, you stubborn little hedgehogs!

Sonic: What are you doing out here?

Ayla: Besides threatening a bunch of innocent people?

Dr. Eggman: I see no reason to tell you two! In any case, I'm busy! Farewell!

*He flew away in his Egg-Mobile*

Chip: Wha - ? Hey! Wait That's playing dirty! Come back!

Sonic: Just ignore him. *we turned to the villagers* Is everyone here all right?

*Everyone said they were all right & thanked us. Then they told us the Gaia Temple was a holy place they none of them dare approach and that it was in a giant tree just to the north of the village. We started to head out*

Ayla: By the way, *I turned to the little lion cub* were you the one who threw that rock?

Kwod: Yeah! That was me!

*I gave him a wink & a thumbs up*

Ayla: Nice aim.

*I took after me brother*

*We zoomed through the savannah, passing through cities along the way, until we found the giant tree. Suddenly, just as we were close to the top of the tree, we saw Eggman, flying in his Egg-Mobile, with a giant robot beetle next to him. We caught up with him*

Sonic & Ayla: Eggman!

Dr. Eggman: Rrgh! How'd you two get here so quickly!? No matter. Your road ends here! *he stopped & turned around. his robot did the same. we both screeched to a halt* Behold! My new power! Egg Beetle, GO! *he parked his Egg-Mobile into the robot & it got ready to attack. I got out my Ring Blades as it charged at us* You unsuspecting little hedgehogs! My Egg Beetle's claws will tear you both to shreds! Bombs away! *the Beetle launched bombs at us, but we managed to dodge most of us* Are you fast enough to dodge this!? *then it got next to us & launched missiles, but dodged those too. we even dodged it's pincers* Take this!

*When we got close enough, we managed to damage, which made the robot smoke. soon, the robot exploded*

Sonic: Ha! Same as ever, all bark and no bite!

Ayla: Just doesn't know when to quit.

*The three of us did a high-five. Then Chip looked down from where we were & saw a building, nestled at the top of the tree*

Sonic: Is that the Temple of Gaia?

Chip: Let's check it out!

Ayla: Yeah, before Dr. Eggs-for-Brains gets his second wind.

*We all nodded & jumped down towards the building*

*We went inside the building, to find a hallway lined with glowing crystals. We walked down the hallway, Chip on Sonic's head*

Chip: Whoa! Awesome!

Sonic: What IS this place?

Ayla: If this isn't the Gaia Temple, I don't know what it is.

*Then we saw a pedestal at the end of the hallway, surrounded by blue flames*

Chip: Hey, guys! There's something weird here, right in the middle! *he flew up to the pedestal* Hey, what's this hole?

*He reached to touch it*

Sonic: Wait! There could be some kind of -

*Suddenly, the pedestal started to light up & the temple started to shake*

Chip: Whoa, what - ? HEY!

*He hid behind me, as Sonic stood in front of me, & a smaller pedestal rose out of the larger pedestal. Seeing the hole made me think. I stepped up to it, with Sonic & Chip behind me*

Ayla: Hmm . . . I wonder . . .

*I took out one of the Chaos Emeralds & placed it in the hole. Suddenly, or started to glow green & rose up into the air. I felt my heart pound as the Emerald got it's power back*

Chip: Wahoo! The Emerald's come back to life!

Sonic: This was the Temple of Gaia! That's gotta be why Eggman was so keen on taking the place over.

*Suddenly, everything started to shake again*

Chip: Here we go agaaaain!

*Then, as the shaking stopped, the Emerald landed in my hands. Just then, I heard a voice in my head*

?:*off-screen* The time has come . . .

Ayla: Huh? *I turned to Chip & my brother* Did you guys say something?

Chip: I didn't say anything.

Sonic: Me neither.

*I look at the Emerald in my hands*

Ayla:*in her mind* Could it be . . .?

*As we exited the temple, Tails flew up to us*

Tails: Sonic! Ayla! Good news! The planet! One of the broken pieces of the planet moved back into place!

Sonic: All right! *he turned to Chip* Nice job!

Ayla: Awesome!

*The three of us did a high-five. Tails took out his newly invented Miles Electric*

Tails: Take a look!

*He showed us satellite footage of the the piece going into place*

Sonic: Sweet!

Ayla: One down, 6 to go!

Tails: At this rate, we'll have the whole world back together in no time, guys!

Sonic: A planet sized jigsaw puzzle?

Ayla: Sounds like an awesome excuse to see the world.
