(Ayla's POV)
*We returned to Spagonia University to give the Professor & our friends the good news. It was night time when we got there, so we were now in our Werehog forms. We were walking down the street to the University when we heard a familiar voice*
Amy:*off-screen* Found you, Sonic! *suddenly, Amy ran up to my brother & hugged him**on-screen* Aww, Sonic! I've been looking for you forever!
Sonic: H - Hey, lemme go!
Amy: Heh heh, you're crazy if you think you can get away from Amy Rose, and . . . *then she looked up at me & Sonic, surprised by our appearances* Who are you guys? *then she pushed my brother away* Oh my gosh, I am SO sorry! *she turned away from us* I just completely mistook you for someone else! That is SO strange. I could have sworn it was him and Ayla. After all, she almost never leaves his side. *she turned back to us* Anyway, I'm REALLY sorry. See you later!
*Then she ran off in the opposite direction. We both wanted to stop her, but the words couldn't come out*
Chip: Well, that was weird. How come that girl didn't know you guys were you? I mean, I guess you are kinda . . . *he flexed muscles* You know . . . And, uh . . . *then he flashed fangs* These guys.
Ayla: It was probably because it's too dark for her to see our new . . . Look.
*Sonic didn't say anything & just walked away, looking depressed*
Chip: Oh, ah . . . I mean . . . D - D - Don't worry! Hey! You only look really scary, Sonic. Inside, you're still the same as ever.
Ayla: He's right. You know the saying "true beauty lies within"? I'm sure she'll figure it out eventually.
*But that didn't seem to help*
Chip: Soniiic! Cheer up! Uhh . . . *he took out a chocolate bar* Chocolate! Want some chocolate!?
*But he was ignored*
Ayla: Don't worry about it, Chip. He just needs some time to think.
*None of us said anything as we made our way back to the University. When we got there, we told the Professor & Sally everything*
Professor Pickle: With part of the planet restored, Princess Sally and I have been able to locate two temples. According to the Gaia Manuscripts, there is a temple here in Spagonia. Who would have imagined one was so close?
Sally: The second location is in . To the east.
Ayla: Great! Let's get going!
Sonic: Yeah. Let's do it to it!
*We ran through the city, smashing any monsters that got in our way, as usual, except it's not robots this time. Just then, as we turned a corner, we saw a bunch of people dancing around like they were drunk. Among them was Professor Pickle's assistant, Q. Cumber, who was holding Amy's hand as he danced*
Amy: Hey! What's the big idea!?
Q. Cumber:*laugh* Come on, babe, let's dance the night away!
Amy: Ack, heeelp!
Chip: Whoa, is there some kind of party going on?
*He took out a camera we had gotten from the Professor & started taking pictures*
Sonic: No . . . Something's not right here.
Ayla: Yeah. Q. Cumber seemed like the kind of guy that would be too shy to ask a girl to dance with him.
*Suddenly, monsters appeared from the people dancing & the collapsed, including Amy*
Chip: It's a carnival of creeps out there!
*Sonic & I battled the monsters until they all disappeared in puffs of black smoke. Sonic & I both howled in victory. Then the possessed people started to wake up*
Q. Cumber: Wh - What was u just doing?
*Sonic & I helped Amy stand up. As she turned around, Sonic jumped away*
Chip: Ah, hey, wait up!
*He flew after Sonic, leaving me alone with Amy*
Ayla: Uh . . . Glad you're feeling better, uh . . . Miss. See you later!
*I stretched out my arms & went after my brother & Chip*
(Third-Person POV)
Amy: Just now, was that . . . Sonic and Ayla!?
Sally:*off-screen* Amy!
*She turned around & saw Professor Pickle & Sally coming towards her*
Amy: Princess Sally!
Sally: Amy, I've told you. You don't have to be so formal with me. Just call me Sally.
Amy: Oh, right. Sorry.
Professor Pickle: Well, that should calm things down a bit around here. Chalk another one up for Sonic.
Amy: You know Sonic!?
Professor Pickle: Of course. He and Ayla were just here a moment ago.
Amy: Sally, tell me . . . What's happened to them!? ** Please, tell me everything you know!
Sally: Don't worry, Amy. We'll explain everything.
Professor Pickle: Of course. Over a plate of cucumber sandwiches!
*Sally felt ready to puke. That's pretty much all she's been eating since working with him*
(Ayla's POV)
*Thanks to Tails, we discovered that we can use the camera to free the people under the control of the Gaia monsters, which was exactly what we did as we made our way through the city, towards to where Tails had parked the X Tornado. Soon, we were on it & heading off to Chun-nan*
*When we arrived in Chun-nan, the first thing we did was head in the village to ask around. The sun had gone down & the Werehogs were out. A nice elderly lady panda named Lin told us that the village's most precious treasure had gone missing. The village elder went to look for it, but hadn't come back yet. They would search for him themselves, but monsters have been lurking outside the village lately. So Sonic & I volunteered to go find him. She told us that the treasurer was a good luck charm passed down for generations. They even credited it for protecting the village from the tremors. But it was lost once they were over. Then she directed us towards the place where he was last seen & we went there. We had to get past a male golden snub-nosed monkey named Wang to get the location. We ran through a the village, fighting monsters the whole way. Eventually, we found an elderly male bamboo rat passed out on the ground in the middle of a pond. Next to him was a glowing green orb with a gold dragon wrapped around it. We started to rush to help him, but we're stopping when a giant purple flaming bird that looked like the Phoenix I've read about in books flew really close to our heads. It landed on a platform & got ready attack us. We managed to weaken the bird by throwing big jugs of water at it. It broke some of the jugs so we couldn't use them. When it was down, we delivered multiple punches to it, but it always managed to regain strength from it's fire. It even even shot flaming feathers at us like darts & breath fire at us. Eventually, we defeated it & howled in victory. Then we went to check on the elder*
Ayla: Are you alright, sir?
Zonshen: Y - Yes, thank you.
*Chip picked up the good luck charm & it started to glow. Suddenly, a door began to open, revealing the Gaia Temple*
*We went inside & Chip used the gem on his collar to make the pedestal appear. Sonic used his stretchy arm to place one of the Chaos Emeralds in & it started to glow red & rose up into the air. I felt my heart pound as the Emerald got it's power back. Then the Emerald floated into my hand. Then I heard a voice in my head again*
Chaos Emerald: To reunite . . .
*I looked at the Emerald in my hand*
Ayla:*in her mind* Reunite what?
*We left the temple as the doors were starting to close. We made it back to the platform & were surprised to find the Phoenix was now good, green, & purple. It also looked more peaceful then before*
Zonshen: The moment the temple lit up, the beast woke up. It appears he's come back to his senses.
Sonic: I see. I'll bet your job is to guard the Gaia Temple.
Ayla: You must've gone berserk when the Emeralds lost their power.
*The Phoenix cawed out a "yes". Chip flew up to it*
Chip: Well, I'm glad you're back! *he pulled out a bar of chocolate* Want some chocolate?
*The Phoenix took the chocolate & flew back to it's nest above the temple*
Sonic, Ayla, & Chip: So long!
*We went back to the village & everyone cheered for us. To thank us for saving the Temple Guardian & Zonshen, Lin made us her famous meat buns as a thank you. Which was great, since all four of us were starving. While Tails & I sat at one table, Sonic & Chip sat at another. Pretty soon, Sonic & Chip were fighting over the last meat bun. Since we had already finished our share, Tails & I just watched them in amusement. Sonic was th first to grab the meat bun with his chopsticks. Chip tried to get it out of his grip, but he was too strong. Then Chip tried to distract him by making him look the other way, but he still kept his grip on the dumpling. Just then, Sonic turned around & they started fighting over the meat bun in mid-air. Chip tried to get it back, but Sonic stopped him at very turn. Suddenly, Chip's chopsticks broke & the force of Sonic's strength sent the meat bun flying into the air. They both jumped for it, but Chip pushed Sonic out of the way as he reached for the meat bun. Then he ate it & swallowed it. Just then, he landed in a miniature porcelain vase, head first, & got stuck. Sonic laughed. I managed to snap a quick picture before going to help Tails get him out*
(Third-Person POV)
*Meanwhile, in Eggman's new headquarters, Eggman was sitting in the command center, reading some charts when his new robot assistant appeared out of the computer console*
Orbot: YOUR DINNER, DOCTOR.
*A sandwich appeared out of the computer console*
Dr. Eggman: Thank you. *he took the sandwich & started to eat it* What's the progress on the Dark Gaia powered Eggman Land construction system?
Orbot: CURRENT STATUS IS . . . 27 PERCENT COMPLETE. PROGRESS IS SIGNIFICANTLY BEHIND PROJECTED TIMETABLE. PRESUMED CAUSE OF DELAY . . . IS DARK GAIA'S DISPERSION ACROSS THE GLOBE.
Dr. Eggman: Oh, of all the lazy . . . Here I go to the trouble of waking that Dark Gaia thing up, and it causes me nothing but delays!
Orbot: DARK GAIA HAD YET TO REACH MATURITY WITHIN THE PLANET'S CORE. ERGO, IT WAS STILL INCOMPLETE AT THE TIME OF IT'S AWAKENING. ERGO, IT WAS UNABLE TO SUSTAIN IT'S OWN WEIGHT UPON IT'S RELEASE. ERGO, IT SCATTERED AROUND THE WORLD.
Dr. Eggman: I don't want to hear about it's weight issues! Do what if I gave it a bit of a sudden awakening!? This is unacceptable!
Orbot: ERGO, THIS IS THE REPERCUSSION OF YOUR HASTY ACTIONS.
Dr. Eggman: What was that!? *the robot acted innocent* I'm having a bad enough day as it is . . . First that Professor run off with the Gaia Manuscripts, and now the planet's coming back together!
Orbot: THAT, DOCTOR, IS THE RESULT OF THE POWER OF THE CHAOS EMERALDS, WHICH YOU DISCARDED ALONG WITH SONIC AND AYLA. ERGO, ANOTHER REPERCUSSION OF YOUR HASTY ACTIONS.
Dr. Eggman: Q - Quiet, you junk heap! That was all part of my plan! Part of the big picture! Where's the fun in having my plans succeed without any challenge? *the robot gave him a blank look* Ahem! A - Anyway, what's the status of the remaining Temples of Gaia?
Orbot: EGGMAN FORCES HAVE CURRENTLY SECURED ALL LOCATIONS. DEFENSIVE PREPARATIONS ARE NEARLY COMPLETE.
Dr. Eggman: That'll take care of Sonic and Ayla for now, which leaves the problem of Dark Gaia. *he sat down in his chair* It'd be difficult to collect every piece scattered all across the world.
Orbot: SEARCHING CONVENTIONAL WISDOM BANKS FOR TOPICAL ADVICE . . . "THE JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES BEGINS WITH A SINGLE STEP." "SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE." "NOBODY LIKES A WHINER."
Dr. Eggman: Hmm, isn't there a more effective way? Some way to, oh, I don't know . . . Gather them all up at once? Wait, that's it! Of course! *he floated his chair over to a computer & started typing* With this . . . This! All of my plans will be realized!
