Unexpected Meetings
"And that concludes today's class. And come prepared for the class test tomorrow. No excuses. I expect all of you to do well." Tommy Oliver finished, looking at his students, who gave a disinterested murmur of assent. Teenagers.
As the bell rang and the students left hurriedly, four students stayed behind.
"So, what did you want to tell us, Dr O?" Conner asked. "Oh, are you giving us the questions for tomorrow's test? Because that would be a real help."
Kira elbowed him while Ethan and Trent snickered. Tommy shook his head before glaring at the red ranger. "No, Conner. As I have said the last ten times, I am not going to give any of you extra privileges. That is not why I called you."
That got the rangers' attention.
Tommy grimaced as he took out a metallic wristband from his pocket.
"What is that?" Kira asked.
"That is the communicator I used as a ranger. In conjunction with our morphers and the Command Centre, it allowed my previous teams to teleport as well as communicate with each other-"
"Teleportation? Why don't we have it?" Ethan asked.
"Because our command centre doesn't have the adequate powers to sustain teleportation and my electricity bill certainly won't cover it but that's not the point. These have not been in use since the Power Chamber was destroyed a short time after we passed on our turbo powers, but yesterday it beeped and sent a warning. Good thing, I kept it as a souvenir."
"What warning? From whom?" Kira asked.
"From Billy Cranston, my old friend and the original Blue ranger." He replied. "There was too much disturbance and all we got out was this…"
Tommy pressed the communicator and a frantic voice came out from the device though it was difficult to discern what was being said through the noise of things blowing up and screams.
"Aquitar…. Attacked. We couldn't… Earth next."
"That sounds ominous." Ethan gulped.
"We don't know who attacked or what happened." Tommy said. "Hayley is trying to contact the other ranger teams as well as Andros and the Astro rangers. All we know is something is coming to Earth and if they attacked Aquitar, it means that the rangers of Aquitar were defeated and they are one of the strongest ranger teams in the universe. Whatever is coming, we need to be prepared."
"Great!" Kira rolled her eyes. "As if mutant dinosaur creeps weren't enough, now we have to deal with evil space aliens?"
"We need to be prepared. As Earth's active ranger team, it falls upon us to be the first line of defence against any and all threats." Tommy said gravely. "I am sorry to dump this all on you but…"
"We can deal with whoever's coming." Conner said confidently.
"Yeah, as long as Mesagog is considerate enough to stay mum during this whole thing." Trent muttered.
"Not likely." Ethan shook his head. "Remember when the Abyss burst open, Mesagog was prompt to strike up an alliance with Lothor."
"You are right. We must be prepared for anything. Now go and study for tomorrow's test before something else comes up." Tommy told them.
"In light of this new stuff, can we please get…" Conner started but was silenced by Tommy's stern glare. "Never mind…"
As the rangers left the classroom, Tommy pursed his lips as he looked back at his communicator. He really hoped Billy was okay, wherever he was.
Kimberly looked herself one last time in the full-length mirror in her new apartment. A pink blazer over a white shirt and denims. She guessed that it looked formal enough for Randall's tastes.
She hummed as she left her home, locked the doors and went to her car, a pink Chevrolet, a gift from her dad. As she drove it to Reefside High, she felt her mind wondering over to what her family and friends back in Angel Grove was doing. Her relationship with her father had strengthened ever since he had moved back to Angel Grove and she had reconnected with her old friends, who still lived in the city – Jason, Trini, Zack, Adam, Rocky, Tanya and surprisingly, Bulk and Skull, as well. Hopefully, once she got back on her feet and had sufficient funds, she would be able to return to Angel Grove.
She parked the car outside the school and took a moment to admire the school from outside. It was a bit larger than her old school and had a larger playground as well as several small gardens in front of the main building. The place was packed with teenagers, nearly all of them with either headphones over their heads, phones in their hands or skateboards underneath their feet.
"There you are, Miss Hart." She turned sideways at the familiar voice to see a woman with short hair in a brown pantsuit walk towards her authoritatively.
"Oh, Principal Randall, nice to finally meet you in person. Good morning."
"Good morning to you too. Come with me, I will show you to your office." The principal said to the point. The brunette nodded, following her new colleague.
Later, during lunchtime, she was walking down the hallway towards the lounge when she heard the faintest sound of music. She looked down from the window to see a girl sitting in a bench near the playground, playing her guitar as she sang, with a small group of students gathered around her.
Kim smiled. It reminded her of the times she and Zack used to sing back in high school.
She shook her head as she continued on her way, only to bump into someone, making the other person drop his books.
"I'm sorry…" She instantly mumbled, rubbing her forehead. She bent to pick up the fallen books.
"Kimberly?" The voice… It couldn't be.
She looked up to see the face of the one person she hadn't seen in years…
"Tommy?"
Hope you liked this chapter. I am going to write shorter chapters for this story in order to update more regularly.
Aside from Kim and Tommy, which other former rangers do you guys want to see show up?
