Unsuspecting Attack
"I heard you sing earlier today. You are good!" Kim told the younger girl, who beamed at the compliment. "Did you write the song too?"
"Thanks!" Kira smiled. "I did!"
"That's incredible, Kira!" Kim nodded approvingly. "I used to write and sing with Zack when I was your age. Just for fun but-"
"I know. Dr O kept a CD of you guys playing in his archives. I really loved it." The younger girl grinned.
"Thank you. I miss those days. All of us were so young and carefree." Kim said wistfully.
"Do you still sing?" Kira asked.
"Sometimes." She responded. "I hardly get the time to, nowadays."
Kira gave her an optimistic smile. "Maybe you will soon. And we could write a song together."
"I would love that." The former ranger laughed.
Kim narrowed her eyes as they reached the outskirts of the city and followed Tommy's car through the woods.
"Tommy lives in the middle of the forest?" She asked quizzically.
"Yeah." Kira made a face. "He says something about this forest makes it harder for Mesagog to zone in on our base and attack."
"Wait, Tommy's house is your Command Centre?"
"More like just his basement but yeah."
The corners of Kim's lips twitched. "That is interesting. Tommy not only became a science teacher but also apparently Batman."
"That's what Conner said." Kira mused.
Suddenly, a silver blur rocketed from the skies and before she could yell out a warning, it hit Tommy's car before them, causing her to halt her own car and scream.
She and Kira shared terrified looks and Conner's car screeched to a stop behind them.
"Tommy!"
"Dr O!"
"Trent!"
The teens and Kim climbed out of their cars and ran towards the fire and smoke.
The car was ruined, nothing left but scraps of metal but there was no sign of Tommy or Trent.
Just then, there was a shimmer of light and the fully morphed black and white rangers staggered their way through the wreckage.
"We are okay…" Tommy coughed. Kim ran up to him, enveloping him in a hug.
"Barely…" Trent added as Kira, Conner and Ethan embraced him.
"I am just glad you guys are safe." Kira said with relief.
"Our dino gems protected us." Tommy informed them as Kim let go of him. "They must have sensed an impending danger and instinctively morphed us on instinct."
"Who did this?" Kim asked, looking around. "Is it the Mesagog creep?"
"No… Something hit us from outer space." Tommy said as the smoke settled down to reveal a silver missile amidst the wreckage.
The dino gems hummed to life as the other three rangers also morphed in an explosion of colour.
"And it is not over." Tommy said gravely as a teleportation beam crashed in front of them, revealing a blue skinned feline alien with feral hunger in his eyes wearing a silver armour and a pair of wings sprouting from his back.
"Goldar?" Kim asked sceptically, her eyes drifting towards Tommy. "I thought he was gone."
"Me too." Tommy replied.
"Dr O, you know this creep?" Conner asked as the titan growled at them, drawing a silver sword.
"Yeah, though he seems to have changed his colour." He noted.
"You are one to talk, Tommy." Kim rolled her eyes.
"Simpleton humans, I am not Goldar!" The monster growled. "I am his brother, Silverback and your doom!"
He threw an energy blast from his sword which Tommy swiftly deflected with his brachio staff.
"Why are you here?" He asked.
"For you…" The monster's eyes gleamed menacingly as it wandered towards Kimberly as well. "And her as well. Saves me the time to hunt you down."
"You are not touching her." Tommy growled fiercely and something stirred within Kim at the raw determination in her old friend's voice. If she was a teenager, she would have probably swooned but she knew better now… Tommy would have said the same for any other ranger or a civilian, which was what she was now.
"We will see." The monster cackled maniacally, raising his sword and a squadron of putties appeared behind him.
"What are those things?" Kira asked.
"Putties. Haven't seen them in quite a while!" Tommy muttered. "First, Billy's distress signal and now this!"
"What do you mean by Billy's distress signal?" Kim asked him.
"I was going to tell you later in the lab." Tommy told her before glaring at Silverback. "I am guessing this is not a coincidence. What have you done to Billy?"
"Don't worry your precious heads. He is being taken care of, just like you two will be." He flashed his pointed teeth at them before jeering at the other four rangers. "But the other four… I guess I am free to destroy them!"
Tommy narrowed his eyes while Conner outright laughed at the monster.
"Keep dreaming, buddy. We have faced way worse than a winged monkey and whatever those things are." The red ranger retorted.
"We will see!" The putties charged at them while Silverback dived towards Tommy.
Kim joined the battle, taking down her fair share of putties with well-aimed punches and kicks.
"You should probably sit this one out." Conner offered, ramming his staff through a putty, obliterating it.
"This ain't my first rodeo, kid." Kim quipped. "And if this guy is anything like Goldar, you guys need all the help you can get."
"Okay…" The red ranger relented, swinging his staff and cutting through three putties who had tried jumping on him.
Kim's eyes fell on the unused blaster on the red ranger's hip holster.
"Hey, can I borrow your blaster?" Kim asked, dodging a blow by a putty and countering with a heel kick to the torso.
"Yeah, sure." Conner tossed his blaster towards her, which she caught and aimed at a putty slithering towards her, blowing it to pieces. She inspected the blaster and noticed it resembled her old blade blaster, meaning it could probably turn to a sword should she need it.
Kim took aim at the surrounding putties and opened fire.
She saw the other rangers finish off the remaining putties with their weapons, the white ranger being the most efficient. He just simply raised his dagger and several energy arrows appeared behind him and crashed into the putties, obliterating them on spot. She had no doubt that the ranger had been a former agent of evil with such a ruthless weapon in his arsenal, though she was glad that he was on their side.
She and the other rangers watched as Tommy and Silverback fought to a stalemate, always countering each other's moves, either one unable to get a hit.
"Enough games!" She heard a loud booming voice as the skies darkened and navy lightning crashed against the black ranger, sending him flying backwards.
He slammed against a tree hard and slumped to the ground, smoke coming out from his suit.
"Tommy!" Kim yelled, trying to run towards him, only to be held back by Kira.
"Get him and the girl!" The voice echoed and Kim looked up to see a floating head in the skies, his hair made of thorns and a cruel smile on his lips. There was no mistaking who was responsible for this attack.
"Lokar!" She glared at the demon as she balled her fists.
"Pretty Pink Pterodactyl, you will be mine!" He jeered at her as Silverback approached her.
"No…" Tommy struggled, trying to get up but crashing to the ground, his morph giving out as well as his consciousness.
The other four rangers gathered in front of Kim, forming a barrier between the titan and her.
"Let's do it, guys." Conner said.
"Yeah, we can take this freak!" Trent nodded as the dino thunder rangers charged at Silverback and Kim watched with trepidation.
