Sorry for the long wait guys, Semester was almost over and I had to focus on completing all my assignments before exams, and I have a bad habit of doing everything last minute. That and Bungie finally got their shit together and actually making fun content to play with the new game mode onslaught, new weapons, new shader, returning exotic missions. Anyways, I finally managed to finish the chapter and hope you enjoy it, had to go back and reread my stuff to remember where I left off.
A pristine figure wandered the wastes of this barren world, the sand at his feet leaving tracks as the man headed to an unknown destination. Yet, if one looked closely they could see orange locks of hair and vibrant golden eyes from within the aura of light that surrounded him.
Ichigo Kurosaki, Monarch of Victory.
Having recruited Aizen, Kevin, Kisuke, Zhongli, Sung JinWoo, and Sirin. He now found himself traversing the dead zones to meet another interesting individual. One pointed out to him by Kisuke as he marked it on his map. Though it was a little ways off, he had spent days simply walking through the dead zone regions to clear the path forward, stopping every so often to cleanse the land of the filth that shrouded it like a mist of death. Even the beasts and monsters that wandered here dared not so carelessly approach him.
Light seeped from his form with every step he took, a radiant star in a colorless world as his power pulsed out every so often to cleanse the miasma that had taken root here centuries ago.
Still, the feeling of being watched as he traversed these dead regions seemed to draw his attention elsewhere. For deep within the miasma, past the weak signatures of creatures that dwelled within. A sinister and voracious aura made itself known briefly before disappearing deep within the core of the region. With it, the sound of the earth slightly shuddering as something massive churned underneath the earth briefly before quieting, with it the sound of distant wild beasts resumed once more.
"A problem for another day…" Ichigo resumed his march as he cleared the way forward.
To say that the destination that awaited him was not what he expected would be an understatement. For here, past the end of the dead zone and lying in a valley surrounded by two towering mountains, was a town, the lights and buildings in the distance marking the signs of civilization as he gazed at it.
"Hm, Kisuke didn't mention anything about a population here." The people that remained on this world had since become disconnected from one another after the fall of humanity. It wouldn't be strange that pockets of people existed in small communities believing themselves to be the last of humanity. Still, the size of this town was surprisingly large, a couple 500+ give or take based on the signatures he was feeling. Far more than the other locations he happened across.
"How interesting." Supporting such a large population in such a location must not be an easy feat, which is why he had only ever run into other towns only made up of 100+ or even less than 50 in other areas. With only the city ruins of the old civilization making up a large community of people in the 1000+ scale.
"I wonder, is the person who Kisuke pointed me to the one responsible for keeping this small community alive here, so close to the edge of the dead zone." It would be no small amount of praise from him if that were the case. After all, the monsters beyond the veil of the corrupted lands were no easy opponents, for all manner of nightmares existed within. Still, it would be best to move onwards and find the one he came for, with the only clue being a small picture given to him by Kisuke and the location of his whereabouts.
Tall, wooden walls made up the defenses of the town, with a few reinforced areas that have been attacked in the past by the beasts of the land more than likely. A beaten path that looked well-travelled led towards the distant plains. As he approached the gates of the town, the sounds of civilization greeted him from sounds of merriment.
Up on the walls, a group of guards that were on duty that night spotted a figure in the distance, the golden glow that surrounded him, mystified the group momentarily before they called out to the stranger.
"HALT!" A man wearing mismatched pieces of armor and holding a sword that gave off weak magical power called out to him. The weapon being a relic of the old era while the armor was created from the local smith.
Ichigo who had just arrived close enough to hear the guards call out to him, looked up the walls to see them pointing their weapons at him. Based on what he could see from them, they appeared rather well equipped for such a large community. Usually, the most he would see is old rusted iron weapons and armor, or if they were lucky, an old piece of technology or artifact from the golden age of man. Though those were few and far between.
"…"
Stopping before the gate, Ichigo could see their wariness as they gazed at him, not knowing if he was a friend or foe, but within the slight fear, was a hint of curiosity as they beheld the stranger. For not only did Ichigo exude an aura of majesty but his appearance oozed authority, with his pristine uniform and armor that looked like it belonged to the legendary figures of the old era, of heroes of the distant past.
"Identify yourself, stranger!" The one in charge called out once more to Ichigo who set his golden eyed gaze upon, causing the man to clench his sword in apparent nervousness.
Ichigo's impassive gaze soon morphed into a disarming smile.
"Why hello there, my name is Ichigo Kurosaki, I come from the land beyond the miasma that shrouds your path and am looking to take some rest after my long travel." Ichigo simply said.
"What!?" shocked gasps and startled voices resounded as he explained his origins.
"Did he say he just came from "that" place!"
"Bullshit, how did he survive!"
"Ichigo Kurosaki, I don't think I've ever heard that name before."
"Although, I know that we aren't the only humans around left, it surprises me that people exist beyond that land of death."
Their conversations made Ichigo's eyebrow rise in curiosity.
"It appears that these folks aren't as disconnected as I had predicted, is this place a sort of gathering hub for other communities as well?" deciding to put that thought for later Ichigo called out to catch their attention.
"Would you be so kind as to open the gates for me, I 'am feeling weary after my long travels, and wish for some rest." Ichigo came up with an excuse on the spot.
The guards shifted uncomfortably in their spot as they thought over his words. Technically, they aren't supposed to let anyone in after a certain time. Mainly because anything that roams around at this time of night ain't strictly human. Only monsters and demons prowl the night at this time. But still, this stranger that claims to have traveled from beyond the dead lands, there was something truly different about him, not just his appearance, but his aura, the way he carried himself along with the strange power he seemed to possess.
"You, bring the chief here." The head guard called out to one of his companions as he ordered him to bring the leader of this town. Only he would have the authority to decide to let this stranger in, a man that seems be more than meets the eye.
"On it." With that, the guard left in a sprint.
"Now then…" shifting his attention back to the stranger, he continued. "I'm afraid I don't have the authority to let anyone in at this time of night, rules set by our chief, but, worry not stranger, all we need is permission if you don't mind the wait for a bit." The guard called out.
"I understand, I will await your leaders' decision." Ichigo assented.
"Besides, you lot will be needing my help very soon…"
While Ichigo talked with the guards, various signatures had made their presence known across the rocky valley.
The town of Argos, it was a place named after the first chief who settled in this valley after the fall of the old civilization. it is a natural trading hub with other smaller communities that had found their way here, eventually growing into a sizable town with a healthy population. The mountains here contained a natural spring that had continued to sustain the town for years, that and their efforts in farming the few bits of soil rich areas that remained had managed to keep them going thus far with hunting being another option they had in the mountains, though that was few and far between when meat could be put on the table.
Arriving at the chief's house that was the biggest house in the block, easily towering over the others as it was built a little higher up on a hill to overlook the town. Knocking on the door, the guard stood patiently as he waited their leaders response, though the minutes ticked by with no answer causing the guard to knock again.
"Chief, there is an urgent matter that needs your attention, please answer the door!" The guard knocked again.
Another thing that should be added, was that though the position of chief was not hereditary, as it was the person that could be trusted the most to be the next leader, it was by no means that the trust was meant to signify that the individual held an exemplar personality. Meaning they only cared if the one in charge was capable.
"Don't tell me he's drunk again…" The guard muttered under his breath.
Perhaps it was his incessant knocking or the sudden flash of light in the distance that drew his attention back towards the direction he came from, but sooner or later, the door was finally opened, revealing the man beyond.
"What do you want?" the words came rudely as an annoyed individual opened the door revealing the chief. Pale skin, blue eyes, and lightblue hair. The man wore a simple white robe with a black sleeveless undershirt. In his hand , a purple liquid could be seen from the glass he was holding. With it came the sounds of woman from within the confines of the house.
"Chief, there is a situation at the gates that requires your attention. It appears that a stranger proclaiming to hail from the lands beyond the dead region wishes to enter, though according to the rules, no one without exception is allowed to enter at nightfall." The guard quickly informed the impatient man.
That seemed to earn the interest of the chief as he raised a brow in curiosity. "From the lands beyond? How interesting…" The chief mumbled to himself in thought.
"Do we let him in, sir?" The guard asked once more.
"Hmm, give me a second, I have to see for myself, if this stranger truly claims to be who he is, we might see about letting him in after that." The man who appeared to be pretty lax at first sight, actually took his job seriously. As the person in charge, and the strongest warrior here, it was his duty to keep his people safe, not only that, but he had long since seen the tricks the creatures from the dead lands had thrown at him and overcome them. Like hell he'd let some unknown being into his town without confirming his identity first.
He wouldn't repeat mistakes of the past.
Going back into his house to change and grab his trusted spear, leaving the woman that had accompanied him for the night behind.
It was as he had stepped out his door that he and the guard suddenly drew their attention to the sky.
"W-what in the world!" The guard exclaimed as he saw a radiant golden light form in the sky, and then…
Swords, hundreds, thousands, all shimmering in the glow of golden luster that had turned the night to day. The brilliant light catching the attention of all residents who all stared at the bright sky in bewilderment.
Wasting no further time, the chief bolted into action as magic power gathered around him like lightning incasing his form and with a swift movement, shot into the distance with a resounding clap.
Ichigo had been right about the guards needing him here, for not even a few minutes later, creatures began to be seen in the distance. Atop the mountain that overlooked the valley, was a beast, a great horror in the form of a wolf, its veiled form easily identified by him as it stood over the peak. Its fur was black as the night, its legs were covered in sharp black scale like skin, many blood red eyes made up its face, along with a row of razor-sharp teeth that could bite through the toughest metal, its tail a razor-sharp whip with bladed ends.
Looking over the human settlement, the horror let out a howl as it summoned its subordinates. A chorus of howls soon overcame the valley as the guards were the first to respond to the sudden wave of monsters that made themselves known.
"Sound the alarm!" The head guard shouted. " And get all available men to ready themselves to fend off a monster wave!" Not missing a beat, the guards set about their task.
"Stranger, I don't know who you are! But under these circumstances, I'm afraid I cannot allow you entry, I'm sorry." He truly was, the stranger had seemed like a genuinely nice person as he had garnered from him, perhaps it was his aura or the way he carried himself, but he seemed like a person that was easy to get along with. Which is why it was a shame he had to leave this man to his fate of dying by the coming monster wave. They simply didn't have enough time to open the gate and close it along with reinforcing it, as the head guard, it was his duty to defend the people within the town.
Even it meant sacrificing the few to do so.
Perhaps sensing his genuine remorse, Ichigo simple smiled. "I understand, but you shouldn't worry about it." With that Ichigo turned his back to the gate as he looked towards the wave of horrors that were currently charging to his location. The leader being the large wolf that was easily taller than a house, seemingly observing him and the town as its subordinates charged down the mountain.
"After all, I'm here."
Ichigo's eyes shone brightly as his primordial power soared, piercing through the night and bringing the day forward. His hand raised towards the sky, where small ripples formed in the space as golden points of light began to appear from these ripples.
The guards who were watching this, couldn't help but stare in awe as the unknown stranger began to use powers never before seen.
Even the wave of monsters rushing at them paused momentarily as hesitation began to stay their feet.
"Perish."
Clenching his fist, the points of light in the sky began to fall, and as they drew closer, did they begin to realize that what was raining down were not the stars, but swords, swords of utmost radiance.
Shiing* Boom*
Not one of them missed their mark.
As the dust settled, and the guards opened their eyes from being blinded momentarily, did they begin to see the true scale of the attack.
The wave, the beasts that were charging at them only seconds ago.
Gone.
Every last of them having been pierced through by the innumerable swords, their bodies dissipating into ash as they were struck.
An army, gone, just like that, without a sound or a whimper.
After slaughtering the wave, Ichigo soon turned a lazy gaze towards the Horror that stood atop the mountain. The creature felt its very being shiver as the golden eyed gaze fell upon it, an overpowering pressure consuming it as fear gripped it legs. A creature born of destruction and chaos, a horror that reveled in the bloodshed and death, yet, here, before this man, it was nothing more than an insignificant bug dancing in its palm, ready to be crushed at any moment in time.
It had to run.
It had to live.
It had to-
The clap of thunder in the sky silenced the horror as a giant spear of lighting rained down on it, piercing its paralyzed body as it began to break apart from the lightning coursing through it.
One last howl ripped through the valley before it was promptly silenced.
Turning away from the scene, Ichigo instead cast his gaze towards the sky. Where a man in white clothes and light blue hair stared down at him. A magnificent spear in his hand as the man began to descend.
Striking the ground next to him like a bolt of lightning, Ichigo cast the man a look of recognition as he knew who was finally here.
"That was quite the spectacle there stranger, might I have the honor of knowing you name?" the blue haired man cast him a carefree smile, yet his eyes held an analytical look to them, as if assessing him to the best of his ability.
A smile tugged at his lips as things began to fall into place.
"The name is Ichigo Kurosaki, and please what I did is nothing more than take care of a minor inconvenience, it was you who struck down the leader." Ichigo confessed humbly. Though the man seemed to scoff at the notion.
"Heh, a minor inconvenience. If taking care of a monster wave is nothing to you, I would dread to see what will give you trouble." He said much to Ichigo's amusement.
"I never got your name, but, based on what I've heard, you must be the chief of this town." Ichigo changed the subject.
"Indeed, the names Eduan, Khun Eduan." The man proudly proclaimed as he pointed his thumb towards his chest. "Now what brings you here, Ichigo, you don't mind if I call you by your name right." Eduan stated more than asked.
"Go ahead, I don't mind." A straightforward individual this one.
And Ichigo couldn't help but like it.
"As for why I'm here, the answer is simple." Pulling out the picture from his coat, Ichigo faced it towards Eduan who looked at it in curiosity for a second before realizing that it was him in the image. This caused him to cast a suspicious glance towards Ichigo as the grip on his spear tightened.
"Now now, I'm only here to propose something to you, trust me, you won't be disappointed, Eduan." Ichigo smiled at the man who quirked a brow in contemplation.
"Alright, follow me." Leading the way into the town, Ichigo and Eduan would engage in talks that would lead until the coming morning. Of his purpose to seek out individuals that could become his companions, warriors to fight at his side. That by recruiting such promising individuals would mankind begin to prosper as they fought back against the corruption that had seeped into the world. To restore humanity to a new golden age.
"What you witnessed is barely a fraction of my power, Eduan. I can show you a path to a more brilliant future, one where your people need not hide behind walls or fear the night. With you by my side and others like you, we can restore our world to what it once was." Ichigo proclaimed as he stared intently into Eduan eyes.
Having heard all that the stranger had to say, Eduan was at a crossroads. On one hand he could simply tell the man to fuck off and that he was clearly spouting nonsense. On the other hand, and one that he clearly felt tempted by, the future he spoke of.
What if, what if for a moment, he truly believed everything this man was saying.
Dare he throw away the chance to be a part of something more, something that wasn't confined to this tiny village, simply passing the time drinking away his life and drowning in the pleasure of woman.
He was a warrior, he proved it the moment he took up the spear in his hand, he lived for the thrill, he lived for the bloodshed, the thin line between life and death.
But more than that, he was a man that sought wonder in life, an adventurer that wanted to leave his mark behind.
So, dare he dismiss this man? this Ichigo Kurosaki, a man of many mysteries who sought after something that was clearly impossible.
It would take a miracle for him to accomplish that goal he chased after.
But perhaps…
"Alright, for a second, let's say I believe everything you told me, and that you can truly elevate me to a higher level. But, these people, I have a responsibility to them, I can't abandon them. I swore an oath as the chief of this place to protect it upon my dying breath, it was what allowed me to wield this spear. If you wish for me to follow you, you have to show me that this place can be protected in my absence." Eduan explained seriously.
"If that is all that you need, then let me show you." Ichigo had gained a better understanding of this Individual, Eduan for all his carefree attitude, was a man who took his role seriously, a man of his word.
Walking out of the building, Ichigo was followed by Eduan who looked on in curiosity as Ichigo began to unleash his unique golden colored aura, his primordial power spreading all around him, past the town, encasing the valley and beyond, pushing past the dead regions boundaries as he continued to unleash his power.
The creatures and monsters that wandered having felt his power began to flee in droves, pushing deeper into outer regions and away from the valley. But it wasn't just the monsters affected by his power, the cracked earth that was the valley began to nourish itself, the dried-up river began to swell as water flowed, grass pushed up, tress sprouted upward, a forest forming. The darkened clouds parted revealing the radiant sun and blue skies.
This was the day that this town had borne witness to a miracle.
"Do you see, Eduan, the future we can build, you can be a part of this. The spear pointed towards our enemies that desire our destruction, you can be the vanguard to protect all of this." Spreading his arms around him. Eduan stood in silent awe as he saw the blue skies for the first time in his life, the sun shining on his face, a gentle breeze caressing him. the valley once a rocky area with nothing to grow on it, was now a lush green with a small forest and flowing river that looked as clear as the sky before him.
Dare he believe now? Was a future where a world that the man described exist?
"You drive a hard bargain, but not one I can refuse. Very well, if you desire my strength, then let my spear be that which vanquishes our enemies." Bowing his head, Eduan was about to kneel before being stopped.
"I need not your fealty, but your commitment to the cause, your companionship, we are equals, for you have the drive to pave the way to a brighter future." Ichigo placed a hand on Eduan's shoulder.
"Then we are sworn brothers from this day forward." Eduan smirked as he raised his head.
"Sworn brothers huh, I like that. Glad to have you on the team, Eduan."
The friendship made here today would carry forward, the spear that struck all that which stood in the way of humanities rise. The legend of Khun Eduan, the Monarch of thunder.
Traversing the dead regions was as ever a treacherous journey, the horrors here reveled in the torment of others as their victims lost themselves in the ever shifting ever damning presence and madness of the fog that obscured the area. Horrors, they who were a mockery of life, denizens of chaos, children of the adversary. They didn't need consumption, they didn't need propagation, nor did they understand the concept of survival, no, they are destruction incarnate, they are corruption. To the many people here and those of the past, they are an endless and powerful enemy.
But to him.
"Bunch of Vermin." His power pulsed, eradicating the miasma and the creatures caught in his cleansing field. The constant annoyance he felt at hungering stares, mere beasts that didn't understand the role between predator and prey. Here amongst these lowly beasts, he was the hunter, they only need reminded that the reason they live is because he had yet to go after them.
Uniting Humanity under a common banner came first, rebuilding an army to retake the world came next, only then will these vermin that skulk in the shadows understand that man was not yet beaten by any means.
Though, that didn't necessarily mean he would ignore these monsters if given the chance to eradicate them.
"Kisuke already pointed me towards my next destination, well, I'm sure he wouldn't mind if I take a small detour. Yeah, a little stress relief." Casting his gaze towards the center of this region, Ichigo felt the lingering presence of a high-ranking Horror, a Commander-Class to be exact.
"I'll make this quick." A single step was all he needed as he traversed miles of distance in an instant. Appearing before a chasm that led down towards the dark below.
Descending down into the depths of the chasm, it wasn't long till darkness enveloped him as all light faded away to black. Still, despite that, it was no issue for his eyes that could pierce through the pitch dark that was the chasm. Which was why he was surprised, as he descended that the aura that he felt deep within the lowest pit, turned out to have already been slain by someone else.
Its body was massive, roughly 20ft tall, it had a vague bipedal form with six arms with sharpened claws, and two legs that ended in sharp tips. A horror born for war was put to rest here as he saw massive weapons that laid shattered upon the pit. Yet as he observed the creature, he soon came to realize something.
Sword wounds, the creature was littered with hundreds, no thousands of cuts all over its body. With what he believed the killing blow to be the one that left a deep gash from hip to shoulder compared to the rest of its scarred body. This Horror had been put to death by a thousand cuts, sapping its strength and drawing it closer to death before delivering the final decisive blow.
"Just who could have done this." Ichigo thought to himself as he inspected the corpse of the Horror.
Step*
Ichigo had only a fraction of a second to move his head out of the way as something fast moved past him, his eyes catching a lithe figure that quickly disappeared around the corner of his eyes.
Chink*
The sound of steel scraping against the floor alerted him to another attack as his assailant swung its weapon at him.
"…"
Sidestepping out of the way, Ichigo watched the sword whistle past him, his eyes moving to capture the figure of his assailant that quickly moved within the shadows.
"Hmm…" Ichigo wasn't sure but, within this veil of darkness, if for a second, he just believed that he saw…
Thud*
"There." Raising his arm, Ichigo parried the blow with his gauntlet, brief spark illuminating the figure cloaked in the darkness of the abyss.
A gaunt and expressionless visage, yet one unmistakably young, almost childlike. Yet the eyes were like that of a hardened killer one so unlike the children he had seen.
And this bloodlust…
"You, who are you?" Ichigo moved to grasp the child, but a quick swipe of the sword saw him retracting his hand back.
"Hmm." Ichigo didn't know why, but something told him he didn't want to get cut by that seemingly ordinary sword.
Taking a couple steps back, Ichigo moved to reassess the situation. As the child just stood there, staring at him with a vacant expression.
No, the child was analyzing him, perhaps surprised just as he was.
"Alright." Despite his initial surprise at finding a kid at the bottom of this hellhole, the matter remained that, if he were to look at things as they were, then…
"Hey kid, were you the one that killed this Horror here?" Ichigo asked as he pointed towards the corpse.
"…"
No answer greeted him.
"Heh, you're pretty strong having killed it." Ichigo suddenly said, already knowing the answer to his own questions based on the cuts littered on the body. "So, what made you do it, was it revenge? Did it kill anyone you knew?" No answer.
"Was it self-defense then?" No answer.
"Ah, was it disgust? these things are pretty ugly after all." No answer.
"Not talkative are ya. Actually, do you even understand what I'm saying? you should, I'm after all speaking in the language of souls." Ichigo smiled as he looked at the pensive expression the kid made.
"Alright, then last question." Ichigo's let out a bit of his own killing intent, letting it flow out to meet that of the kids own.
"Was it for the thrill."
Upon hearing those words, the vacant expression on the child's face formed into one of glee, a toothy grin appearing on his face as he felt the overwhelming bloodlust that the man before him exuded. His own eyes widening as he felt his heart began to beat faster, his blood surging in his veins as the call to meet this challenge head on.
The monster, the creature he had slain, had been but a welcome distraction from the boredom of his existence. The reaping of life, be it the insects at his feet, the monsters that prowled the land, even other humans like him, it didn't matter what it was. The act of swinging his sword, to be at the edge between life and death and to bathe in the blood of his enemies, nothing was more liberating to the child than that.
And now, as he gazed into that golden eyed gaze that made him freeze in place as a maelstrom of carnage that was the man rooted him. He knew, the child knew, that he had found what he has been looking for his whole life.
The child swung his sword against the indomitable.
"Foolish."
The child struck at the shield that covered the golden eyed man, his sword bouncing off despite the force behind it. Yet, this did not deter the child as he began a rampant attack of slashes at the shield, wanting to cut through it and pierce the man.
"Such ferocity, how surprising." Ichigo noted as he saw the skill with which the child swung his blade. Each stroke like sharpened wind, rending and savagely tearing all in his path, it was beautiful, like witnessing a hurricane, the child the eye within the storm.
"But, not enough." Bringing down his shield, Ichigo moved with a grace that left the child in awe as Ichigo evaded each and every blur of his blade, his movements fluid like water and silent as the void as he approached him with practiced ease.
It was in that moment, that the man's face appeared before the child's eyes, his presence all-encompassing as with a simple gesture, brought forth his hand that caught his blade, and with his other, a deliberate movement as every action telegraphed itself into his eyes.
Flick*
That was all it took a simple flick to his forehead as the child was flung back, his sword wrenched from his hands as the man's impressive strength held it in place. The child's vision started to darken a bit as unconsciousness began to settle in, with his last image being of the man approaching him with slow and steady steps.
"Sweet dreams…"
Peace.
Tranquility.
When was the last time he could remember feeling so…safe?
The darkness that had overcome him, as his rested body surged with renewed energy sent his eyes fluttering open as he moved to take in his surroundings.
A black sky, night, clouds, and a fire nearby…
With the smell of meat in the air.
The boy could feel his stomach growling as he moved to a sitting position. Right across from the man that had knocked him into unconsciousness. His form seated on a trunk he had cut down, overlooking the fire as he cooked the meat.
"Ah, you're awake." The man stated without looking at him.
"…" the boy stayed quiet as he looked at the meat.
Noticing this, Ichigo cut some slices from the chunk as he placed it on a plate he had materialized earlier. "If you're hungry just say so." Ichigo said as he held the plate in his hand for the boy to eat.
The boy appeared hesitant, yet, between his weariness and hunger, one of the two eventually won out.
Snatch*
Ichigo felt the plate in his hand be snatched away in seconds as the boy began to stuff his face.
"Easy now, there's more where that came from." Ichigo said, amused at the boys actions. It was in this atmosphere as two strangers ate in silence under the night sky, surrounded by the glow of the campfire that Ichigo spoke first.
"What's your name kid?" Ichigo asked as he put his plate down, done with his meal.
The boy who had thus far been shoving food into his mouth, stopped momentarily as the man spoke up, his expressionless face morphing into one of contemplation, before his mouth moved to speak.
"Zaraki." A gruff, scratchy voice, like the boy was unused to talking for long spoke his name for the first time.
"Zaraki? an interesting name. Did your parents name you like that?" Ichigo asked.
The kid shrugged. "No. Zaraki is Zaraki." He said much to Ichigo's confusion before the words clicked into place.
"I see, so you named yourself." Ichigo mused as the kid nodded.
"How long have you been alone like this, where is your home?" Ichigo continued.
"…" the kid didn't answer readily, as if debating the answer internally before shrugging once more.
"Hmm, I see." So the kid had no clue who his parents were, where he came from, or where his home was. For all intents, the boy was more than likely an orphan.
The kid resumed eating as Ichigo debated what to do. After all, he couldn't just leave him here, but at the same time he couldn't just dump him wherever. Ichigo was no fool, this kid was a danger not only to himself but to others, he was a killing machine in the guise of a child, for no mere man, no mere mortal could have hoped to defeat a commander-class horror on their own. At least to his knowledge, which made the feat itself all the more impossible as a child no less than 13-15 years old managed to do what few could hope.
Skill, talent, intent, and just the bit of crazy to make a fine warrior one day.
No, a great warrior.
"Hmm…" Ichigo took a good look at the child's soul before making his choice.
"Hey, Zaraki." Ichigo used the child's name to draw his attention.
"Do you want to hear a story." Ichigo stated more than asked.
"…" the kid said nothing as Ichigo continued.
"Alright listen well." Like that Ichigo began with the old civilization, of how they reached out towards the stars, only to find them bereft of light, where a great darkness had sundered them. Of how Humanity grew strong, in order to light the path anew, how they fought against impossible odds, of the sacrifices and victories. he spoke of victory, of failure, and finally, defeat. The old civilization was destroyed, and with it only remnants remained, they the survivors to live out the rest of their days till this world finally let out its last breath and with it, the destruction of humanity.
Yet...
As the child heard his story, the tale of despair soon changed into one of possible hope, he spoke of a young boy, a dream he wished to turn into a reality. Of how, through great effort, he had gained the means to set the future right, to pave the way forward. That he would be the light in the darkest hour, the sword and shield of humanity. But, not him alone, that through 12 others of his choosing, they would join him in the path to make mankind great again, and with it, end an eternal war that has plagued this universe since time immemorial.
Of course, all of this simply went in one ear and out the other for the child too focused on eating, though his ears did perk up when the man mentioned wars, battles, and great enemies.
"So, Zaraki, how about it, do you want to be one of those twelve? To be a champion for mankind? A sword to pave the future? I understand that you are young, and that what I'm saying sounds like something out of a dream. But, I get the feeling that if you join me, that will be a great boon for humanity, under my tutelage, I can make you stronger than you could ever be." Ichigo said as he stared at Zaraki who had put his food aside to listen to the man.
"You? Can make Zaraki stronger?" the child asked.
"Strong won't even begin to explain, you will be a paragon, one that everyone will look up to." Ichigo explained.
"Will Zaraki be able to fight strong enemies?' The boy asked, much to Ichigo's amusement. He could feel it in the boys heart, the joy of being given a change to fight in the future, to cross blades against those ancient existences.
"Yeah, there'll be a lot of fighting, enough to make you feel sick in the stomach." Ichigo chuckled.
Zaraki smiled as he nodded.
"By the way, don't know if I mentioned it, but my name is Ichigo Kurosaki. Let this be the beginning of a new friendship, Zaraki."
Like that Ichigo had found another companion, a boy that will one day grow into the strongest swordsman mankind had ever seen, a being of war and bloodshed that carved his name in the universe.
And the biggest pain in the ass Ichigo had ever dealt with.
Long ago, there was a clan. They were keepers of ancient knowledge, holders to relics of great power, and defenders to the history of all mankind. They were a powerful clan, and when the day came that humanity fell, when the end had come.
They stayed at their post doing what they did best.
Safeguarding the history of mankind.
The Kuchiki family will continue to uphold that sworn duty to its last dying breath.
Now only one remained.
Long black hair and gray eyes, an intricate headpiece that adorned his hair. Fair skin, and a handsome face that had an aloof expression. His clothes though worn still gave the man a regal look as pristine white robes and a white scarf adorned his body.
Byakuya Kuchiki, 28th head of the Kuchiki family.
And the last member of that once noble lineage after the passing of his family.
Sigh*
The crisp air of the mountain cooled his head as he stared ahead of him, the desolation he had endured since his appointment as the next head. The once proud family had been reduced to a shadow of themselves, for gone was the riches and material wealth, the servants and soldiers they had commanded, even their own bloodline had been thinned out till only he remained.
The passing of his parents had been too early.
He had buried his own grandfather.
No one even remembered them but him.
No one would remember him.
They would fade away.
Their duty upheld to the end.
Sigh*
Sometimes the young man wondered if it had all been worth it.
But those thoughts are quickly to be discarded, for there could never be any doubt in the duty that they had upheld for generations. The teachings of his family so deeply ingrained in his mind. Duty, Responsibility, Lineage…
"But what was it all for…"
The thoughts betrayed his resolve, making the desolation all the more consuming as he stared at the range of mountainous terrain that was his home. Secluded from all, if there were any out there at all that is.
His home was a bunker, formed by hollowing out a mountain that would later be used as a vault to hold all of Humanities Inheritance. What that Inheritance was eluded him as none could enter the vault, not even the Kuchiki's who had sworn to protect it. All he knew was that it was buried deep within the mountain, with layers of defenses and seals in place to ward of those that would seek to obtain it.
According to the history of his clan, the idea had been proposed by their Great Ancestor, Yamato Kuchiki. One of the final leaders of humanity during the Great war, he had also been one of the Lances of Humanity, ranking 6th amongst their number.
Reports say he had fallen in battle during the battle for Earth, having failed to stop the siege at Luna causing the moon to fall into the enemy's hands. The last line of defense humanity had before it all went to hell.
Shaking his head to rid himself of inane thoughts. Byakuya cast his gaze up towards the dark sky.
The same dark sky since his birth, the same sky since the moment he stepped foot into the outside world, and the same sky that will continue to be after his own passing.
"…"
Bringing the cup of tea up too his pale lips. Byakuya absentmindedly sipped from the tea, and realized a moment later that…
"Cold." He stated.
Having been lost in thought longer than he expected, the tea he had prepared had gone cold during his musings.
"…"
His brow twitched in displeasure as a sudden wave of frustration overcame him.
His hands clenching the tea cup in a tight grip.
Lineage.
Generations of his family had given their lives to keep this place a secret from the outside world.
Responsibility.
Their oath, a sacrifice for the greater good, so that Humanity may resurface one day.
Duty.
An oath, made in vain, his family reduced down to the last awaiting an uncertain future that would never come.
Cracks began to appear on the tea cup as frustration at his current situation amounted.
Byakuya Kuchiki, 28th head of the Kuchiki family, sole remaining member of the once proud family.
"Meaningless."
Tossing the tea cup against the wall, he saw the cup shatter as it spilled the cold drink against the floor.
"It was all in vain, the future we had hoped will never come." Byakuya said with slight regret in his tone. The years of desolation had waned his aspiration and hopes, the dark skies a reminder that humanity as a whole had failed. Now only a slow death awaited them all under dark skies, one he will suffer sooner or later.
"…"
Looking out into the vast stretch of land, Byakuya wondered, if perhaps, just what if, he simply left. After all, this place had gone unnoticed for generations, never had this place encountered outsiders. In fact, this place would function even without him around, nothing but a useless position of a gatekeeper to a crypt that was humanities legacy.
"Legacy."
The sudden desire to leave waned as the teachings of his family resounded in his mind once more.
That's right, this was his purpose, his legacy, his family wouldn't have wasted generations of Kuchiki blood on some desolate mountain if they didn't believe that something would come of it. Though he may be all that remained of them in the end, he would continue to uphold the principle of his clan upon his dying breath. For that was what it meant to be a member of the once great Noble family that was the Kuchiki clan.
Sigh*
Letting the fine breeze sweep his hair, Byakuya resumed his meditation under the bright skies of this desolate mountain.
"…"
Wait a minute…
"Bright skies?"
Widening his eyes in surprise, Byakuya directed his gaze once more up towards the once darkened skies that had shrouded him his whole life.
Now all he saw was…
It was beautiful, golden rays of light spilling over the landscape, illuminating all that was, the radiance so blinding he had to blink his eyes to adjust to new sudden brightness. Even as tears swelled in his eyes from the pain, he could not look away from that radiant light that encompassed the blue sky.
Then he appeared, in a shimmer of light, shrouded by the sun's halo, his form like that of a divine being, ethereal and ephemeral that for a moment he believed his mind was playing tricks on him.
Yet, as the pillar of light descended, Byakuya got a good look towards the form of his visitor.
Orange hair like that of a sunset, golden eyes as bright as the stars themselves, shrouded in pristine white clothing with gold accents and regalia. The man before him gave the bearing of a noble existence, one he could not help but want to bow his head towards.
Thump*
The being's feet touched ground upon the once proud land of the Kuchiki family, his eyes inspecting his surroundings before landing on him.
Surprise colored both their expressions before curiosity took over.
"Huh, a human? Here? Kisuke didn't mention anything about people still living in the area, how curious." The man spoke to himself as Byakuya kept his eyes trained on the man.
"Hello, friend, the name is Ichigo Kurosaki, a pleasure, may you honor me with your name?" Ichigo requested of the man who finally shook off the awe in him.
"Byakuya Kuchiki, 28th head of the Kuchiki clan, lord of these mountains." Byakuya introduced himself with all the grace he had been taught by his parents.
"Kuchiki clan? That name. Its familiar to me, why is that?" The man once more mused to himself before a spark of recognition appeared in his eyes.
"AH! I remember now, your family has been in charge of protecting the last inheritance of the old civilization, was it not?" upon hearing those words, Byakuya appeared surprised that some outsider would know of their existence, yet he also became guarded as he put his hand against the hilt of his sword.
"That is indeed the case, may I know what intentions you have for coming here." Though his voice was respectful, there was a shift in the atmosphere between them. Byakuya was ready to uphold the laws of his family should the man hold ill intentions towards this place.
"Heh. Settle down now, I mean you no harm, in fact, you could say that the reason I'm here is to relieve you of your duty." The stranger replied as he looked calmly at him, at ease despite his veiled warning.
Still, something about the mans words confused him.
"Relieve me of my duty? What do you mean?" Byakuya questioned.
"Simple really, your family has upheld their oath to protect this place, you are hereby relieved of your duty to this place, for humanity has a need of it now." Ichigo explained much to Byakuya's surprise.
"I-I don't understand, I thought all of humanity had been wiped out by now." Byakuya questioned.
"You thought wrong, they are still going strong, and now, they need what was once lost so they can rebuild. As the leader of all humanity, I have come to reclaim what was ours, you can follow me if you so choose." Like that Ichigo began walking forward.
Getting up on his feet, the Byakuya moved to draw his sword. "Wait! I can't simply let you walk freely into this place, how do I know what you are saying is truth?" Byakuya reproached.
"Hoh~ you doubt my words, very well, let me show you TRUTH." Like that Ichigo's eyes flashed golden as suddenly, Byakuya felt images and words fill his head, the contents of it being places around the world he had not seen.
HUMANITY.
REBUILD.
PROTECT.
FIGHT.
HOPE.
EXPAND.
ENEMY.
FUTURE.
PAST.
ASCENDENCY.
Byakuya clutched his head in pain as he fell to his knees, the images coming and going as he suffered the worst headache in his entire life.
"Gurgh!" clenching his teeth, Byakuya endured the pain as he tried to make sense of the visions. Yet as time passed he could make sense of them now, a sprawling city, people of all ages, thousands congregating towards the light, and standing atop, a figure illuminated by the radiant sun, as thousands cheered his name.
ICHIGO KUROSAKI.
MONARCH.
HERO.
SALVATION.
HOPE.
This was a revelation.
And with it, Byakuya slowly rose to his feet once more. His questions answered.
"Forgive my rudeness from earlier, I had believed you a thief, but now it appears you are a guest, allow me to show you the way." Byakuya said slowly as he caught his bearings.
"No need to forgive, you were simply fulfilling your duty, if anything, I apologize for the sudden pain I have caused you, I simply thought it to be the most effective method at the time." Ichigo explained.
"It is no problem. For I now understand what has been truly going on outside these walls. It is… good to know that humanity still has a place in this world." Byakuya said.
"Indeed, though if I must ask, what do you intend to do now that you no longer need to watch over this place?" Ichigo asked.
"I…don't know. My one and only purpose in life had been to protect this place, seeing as my duty is now fulfilled after generations, I now find myself with no path to follow."
Looking up at the sky, Byakuya cast the vastness of the blue sky and radiant sun a wistful smile.
"It is overwhelming and terrifying at the same time. Yet liberating nonetheless." He closed his eyes, savoring the feeling.
"If you wish, seeing that your family was a great clan in the past, you could try and rebuilt it, I will personally welcome you to join my new empire, and grant you a position within my court as I have done to others I have deemed worthy. After all, your family's commitment, your honor, and sense of duty, I can see this within you, that alone would make you someone worth trusting." Ichigo said as Byakuya contemplated his offer.
"You would do that? For someone you just met?" Byakuya asked.
"Trust me, these eyes see more than what mortal eyes can see. I'd like to think myself a good judge of character, and besides, I get the sense you and I can get along with one another. So, how about it, Byakuya Kuchiki, want to join me on this path of reclamation, you would make a fine addition to my little group." Ichigo proposed once more.
Watching him extend his hand forward, Byakuya did not need any more prompting as he took the man's hand in his own, his grip solid.
"I will not disappoint you." Byakuya affirmed as he shook his hand firmly.
"I know you won't." There was twinkle in the man's eyes as he said that, as if assured in his own words. That confidence only led to Byakuya to shake his head in amusement.
"Then let's be off, towards the depths below."
"I'll lead the way."
Like that, Ichigo and Byakuya descended towards the unknown future that awaited them all. A treasure buried deep that will lead to the resurgence of man's glory. An inherence of the old world to safeguard the new world from the horrors they will have to prepare for.
The storm was raging, rain descending, as the world muted to a dull gray. In this gray, a cloaked figure made his way through the mud-soaked ground, his boots splashing on the ground as he stopped upon reaching his destination.
Pushing through the doors, the man made his way through the drunks, and hunters. The town bar being the only place where such figures congregate to forget about the world's troubles. Yet as he took his seat, the man pushed two coins of what appeared to be made of strange metal.
"Water, please." The man's elegant voice simply said to the bar tender who accepted the payment and brought out a jar of clear liquid.
In this day and age, water was a commodity, as the worlds corruption grew, it became more difficult to find sources of clean water, much less be able to purify it, as such means were only known to priests of the old faith. They could only do so much, as such it came down to others to find their own means of survival.
Taking a sip of water, the man focused his eyes on his surroundings, the mission board where hunters congregated to take on jobs, as well as the nearby tables where the occupants where in deep conversation. Still, his eyes searched till they landed on a particular person. Standing up, the cloaked man moved towards the white shrouded figure.
"You kept me waiting you know." The feminine voice spoke.
"So, I did." The man said as he moved to sit down.
"Can I assume you're here for the usual?" The woman asked.
"No, I'm in search of something else, of news from the west, rumors of a strange man that can…create miracles." The man explained hesitantly.
"Ah, so you've heard of the rumors as well." The woman mused.
"Are they true?' the man asked.
"…"
The lady took a moment to contemplate, yet the man did not miss the smile that tugged at her face, a surprise to him as he has known this woman for a long time and only rarely saw her smile.
"The rumors don't even begin to describe him" She said, emphasizing it.
"Explain." He said.
And so, she did.
It happened unexpectedly, a pillar of light descending down from the heavens, vanishing just as quickly. Yet following those events, tales of a man, a wanderer that traversed the wilds, felling the horrors of the night, and delivering justice to tyrants and warlords that have tormented the innocent. Where only the savage law of the land ruled, order and justice prevailed as the man pushed past all opposition. In that time, the man had freed multiple towns, spreading the seeds of hope where he went, and with it, followers rallied behind him.
"You should have seen it, Enryu. A city! a true city! not like the ruins that people live in, or shabby towns, but a city like those of the ancient past, of the old civilization. Not only that, but the surroundings, green fields, and sunny skies, can you believe it, the shroud of eternal darkness that has encompassed us all our lives, lifted. I have seen it, witnessed it with my own eyes, the light of day!" She smiled as she spoke enthusiastically of her journey.
"Thousands of people gathered as the man spoke of his promise to one day restore humanity, and he did so by using his miraculous powers to not only topple the tyrants that had taken the city, but clear the skies and surrounding area of beasts and corruption. I have seen this with my own eyes, the fertile soil. The clear river that flows. The city that was rebuilt." She continued.
"Through all of this, He wanted us to spread his word, his promise to us, and to gather at his city, Bastion." She explained.
The man known as Enryu who had listened thus far, had never heard the woman speak with such reverence of someone, and a part of him wanted to dismiss her words as simple ramblings. Yet, how could he, when he himself had heard of others also speaking the same things, should he dismiss this as mass hallucination? No. Something was up and he wished to know.
"Is that why you have a new get up?" the man asked as he inspected her clothes, consisting of pristine white robes, with a moth on fire like emblem stitched on it, the symbol eluding him.
"Oh this? This is simply the new order, the fire moth, for we are moths that chase after the flame, a brighter future, a new hope, and that flame goes by the name of Ichigo Kurosaki." She smiled.
"Ichigo Kurosaki?" Enryu sounded out the name.
"Where can I find him?" He asked.
"Hmm, well, gaining an audience with him will be a bit difficult, you see, he travels a lot, every time returning with more people with him. I've also heard that he goes on extermination missions towards the dead regions, but in the end, he always comes back to Bastion. As such, go Enryu, see it, see him with your own eyes, the world he promises." Like that the woman finished her tale.
"…" Enryu was skeptical. But, deep inside him, after hearing her tale, a spark of curiosity remained. Should he go? Dare he believe in her tale? The path towards the west was treacherous and full of dangers, yet, he himself was no weakling. After all, he was one of the strongest hunters in the known region, having gained powers capable of destroying all things to the molecular level, a power he gained in an ancient ruin belonging to the old civilization.
Enryu the red, they called him.
S-rank Hunter.
A title earned through much effort and battle.
"Do you have the location?" He asked.
"Give me your map and I'll show you, though it's hard to miss the closer you get, for the light will guide your way." The woman said as she circled an area and wrote the name Bastion on it.
"May your travels be met with fortune, Enryu." The lady said as she gave him back the map.
"Thank you, Arianna, take care." With that, Enryu set forth, to the west in search of answers.
The woman, Arianna, had not lied to him when she said that "the light would show him the way" for the closer he got to Bastion, the darkened skies he was so accustomed to seem to wane away to the clear light.
It was as he stood over a hill, overlooking a plain, on which a dazzling city stood, of purest white and gold, transformed by the powers of a being that was more God-like than Man, more myth than truth. Yet here, under the light of a star, a sun, the blue skies his mother once spoke of as she read a children's book to him.
He had to rub his eyes multiple times as he looked up. The light so blinding it hurt, yet so beautiful he couldn't look away. It was only as he felt the wetness on his cheeks that he realized that tears were falling from his eyes, as moisture accumulated as emotions long buried swelled up.
"You weren't lying mom, its right there, the light you so wanted to see." Falling on his knees, the man bowed his head as he couldn't contain his emotion, the tears falling on the rocky floor.
He wasn't always the feared Hunter, once upon a time, he was just a young lad, a child striving to survive in this bleak world. He remembered the hunger, the pain of an empty stomach, he remembered the fear of the night, the uncertainty of waking up the next day.
But she made it all the more bearable, she who was like the light in his eyes, of the sun that she spoke of to him in bedtime stories.
"If only you were here now…" wiping his eyes, the man rose back to his feet, his gaze overlooking the green plain, a clear river flowing through, and most importantly.
People.
Just from the road he could see leading towards the city, thousands of people were on it, heading towards the one place that promised a new future, a possibility, a hope.
"Ichigo Kurosaki…" he uttered that name. if he had just been curious before, now he felt the need to know, who was this man? What power did he hold? And most importantly, what was he trying to accomplish.
"Go. See it. See Him with your own eyes, the world he promises." Arianna's words rang in his mind.
"The future, huh…let's see what you have in store." For the first time, a spark of hope had flashed in the heart that only knew pain.
To Bastion, all await.
It was like straight out of a dream, the roads of white marble and gold, pillars that hold the tallest of spires, and a grand palace in the center, as huge walls surrounded this last city. The rays of the sun shining high over a blue sky only added to the magnificence of this place. To think that only a short time was needed for that mysterious man to rebuild such a place. Even now areas around the city were still under construction as more and more people congregated to this place from all over the world, guided by those who called themselves the "Fire moths"
Enryu walked through the streets of bastion immersed by the sights not seen since the last days of the old civilization, when earth had not become the waste land it is now. Of course, the only reason this place could maintain such order and beauty was due to the guards that patrolled the city, knights clad in purest gold armor, with pristine white mantles that shrouded their forms, each carrying weapons that he had only seen the highest of ranking hunters wield.
After asking around the area on how to seek an audience with the man known as Ichigo Kurosaki, the answer he got was…
"A Tournament?" Enryu questioned.
"Yes, one set up by lord Aizen under the orders of his Majesty. If you wish to seek an audience with our ruler, then it would be best to sign up as the top 10 will receive a handsome reward by him personally." The recruiter explained.
"Ok, but why a tournament?" Enryu followed up.
"Apparently, it's to find great warriors to recruit under the new legion: The Dawnbreakers, you might have seen them around, those knights clad in golden armor. From what I've heard, each and every one of them was handpicked by his majesty alone, serving as his personal guard and army. So, don't go causing any trouble around here, those guys take their job seriously." The man announced.
"Besides its faster this way, on the off chance you make it to the top 10, otherwise, well administration is a long process and you'll have to wait a while before getting to meet him." The man explained.
"Of course." Sighing, Enryu jotted his name in the list of competitors not knowing that this one choice of his, will one day lead to an adventure of a lifetime.
He had done it, through his own power, Enryu crushed all opposition in the tournament. Warriors from all over the world had gathered in one spot, each with their own motivations. Yet amongst these great men, he alone rose to prominence, taking the number one spot as he defeated challenger after challenger, gathering the cheers of the crowd. Though there were moments he felt like he was about to lose, through sheer tenacity and skill, he managed to overcome all adversity.
In the end, the final 10 were decided, and he stood as the champion in a place where thousands had gathered.
All for his own curiosity.
A suave man with slicked back brown hair and white robes walked towards the podium where he congratulated the champions for making it this far and that great riches and glory will await them in the future. The man by the name of Aizen Sosuke had garnered many cheers from the crowd so he was certainly popular. Though what Enryu could see of him left him shaken to his core, for this man radiated power, even more than him, who was born with great magical power.
Though all that power paled in comparison to the man that had stepped down from his throne, and walked towards the man gathered in the arena.
"Let us welcome, his Majesty, Ichigo Kurosaki!" Aizen announced as all the people in the stands stood and bowed their heads in reverence.
"Ichigo Kurosaki…"
The stories didn't do the man justice.
Orange locks of hair akin to the sunset, golden eyes as radiant as the stars themselves. Regal cloth of pristine white and gold. Yet below that surface, was an ocean, a maelstrom of power only felt by those who were sensitive to the energies of the world. This man's presence seemed to beat with the earth and the sky, his presence all encompassing.
It was rapturing.
If ever a god existed in this land once, this is the closest being he could ever liken to that in his mind.
The awe-inspiring man was followed closely by another one, a man with white hair and blue eyes, a handsome countenance set in an aloof expression. Yet he could feel raw power from this man as well, about the same as the one named Aizen.
"Warriors, you have all done well coming this far, each and everyone one of you has proven your strength and resolve to get to this point. As such it is with great honor that I hope you will accept a most generous reward for your efforts thus far." The man known as Ichigo Kurosaki announced as he looked at each and every one them, his eyes piercing them to their core making them lower their heads subconsciously, yet for some reason Enryu felt his gaze linger on him a little more than the others had.
"My Vault is open to you, go and seek out your reward." Like magic, Enryu felt his very being be pulled against his will by an unseen force, for where he once stood on a stadium with thousands of people he now found himself within a great realm, riches of all manner filled this place, artifacts, weapons, lost books of ancient knowledge and magic, gold and jewels piled in mountains.
The champions went out their separate ways to seek out their fortune with star struck eyes.
Yet Enryu seemingly felt a pull in a certain direction as something called out to him from this realm of riches.
And upon locating it, he found it on a pedestal, surrounded by other relics and gold.
A needle, a red needle.
There was nothing seemingly strange about its shape, yet, Enryu could feel a great power within it. Something called out to him to take it, and as his hand grasped the ancient relic did his vision fade as he found himself within the inner sanctums of the palace.
Perhaps awaiting his arrival, a guard who stood watch over the great doors to the vault, had him escorted to the throne room where he would have his audience with the ruler of these lands.
The throne room was a great room capable of holding thousands of people at once, a banner hanged atop the golden throne where his majesty sat, a sword stabbing a crown emblazoned on the banner, a symbol to represent the Monarch of Victory. His advisors and knights stood at sections in the room.
Having knelt as he felt compelled to, be it his own will or the awe he felt in the sheer difference in power.
"Champion, speak your name." Ichigo ordered.
"Enryu, sir." He spoke solemnly as he gazed at the floor.
"Enryu, a good name. You were the last one to appear before me, the others have since taken their rewards and became a part of my order. Tell me, Hunter, what brings you to my city." Ichigo asked.
"I…was curious as towards the rumors, if the stories were true." Enryu spoke.
"Oh? And what do these rumors speak of?" though he said this, Enryu for one was not fooled by his question, surely the man knew, he just wished to hear it from him.
"The people speak of hope, of a clear sky and the light of day, they speak of a city built of dreams, and a man akin to a flame who all gather around." Enryu raised his head as his red eyes looked upon those of golden radiance.
"Are you our salvation?" Enryu asked as he let his words sink in.
"…"
Ichigo remained silent for a moment, before a serious look appeared on his face.
"I have gathered many to these walls, this city, to help rebuild humanity to what it once was. I simply wish to retake that which once belonged to us all, to lead us towards a most brilliant future, where the fear of the horrors of the night no longer exist. Where food is aplenty and the promise of tomorrow is assured." Ichigo explained.
"I have performed many deeds and miracles in this land, yet I never forced others to follow my plans, if they wish to be a part of the future I promise, they need only gather in these walls."
"So, does that answer your question, Enryu." Ichigo asked.
"Yes…" Enryu was stunned upon hearing this from the man. Throughout all this, the man he felt to be so above everyone else, suddenly appeared a little more human. His actions thus far spoke for him, as someone who was simply fed up with the current state of things and was actually doing something about it, instead of letting the world rot away till nothing remained.
Enryu felt an urge to be a part of this, how long had he seen the darkness that dwelled in people's heart, of the horrors that skulked in the long night, of tragedies and rampant crime.
If just once, he wanted to step into the light, and embrace a possibility that many would have called fanciful.
"You truly are the flame…" he said it so lowly no one else caught his words, well, all but one.
A smile spread on his face as his tone changed.
"Tell me Enryu, show me what you took from the vault."
And so, he did, unfurling his hand, he revealed the needle.
"That's!?" the one known as Aizen exclaimed as he saw the item in his grasp.
"…" the cold faced man appeared to widen his eyes visibly for a moment before regaining his composure.
"The thorn. A most excellent choice." Ichigo said, though his voice hinted at something.
"Yes, it was strange, I felt a compulsion as soon as I arrived, like I was guided to this relic amongst all others." Enryu explained as held the needle in his palm to show them.
"What is it exactly?" Enryu asked.
"It is a weapon, created in a time when the old civilization was at war against the horrors, when defeat after defeat drove them back, when desperation began to take over. What you hold is a curse, a last defiant cry against the inevitable before all was..turned to dust." Ichigo spoke in a way as if telling a story, his voice garnering interest of all present.
"It is death, mortality, the old worlds burning hatred in the form of a needle. Its last piercing stab at an unstoppable foe to create a miracle. A god slayer." Ichigo recounted as many turned to face the blasphemous object created in last days of the old world.
Enryu looked at the object in his hand with a little apprehension, as if the object would spell his demise if he so much as touched it the wrong way.
"No need to look so nervous, the relic has chosen you as its wielder, and from this moment forth you will be the avenger of the old world. Yours is to be the thorn that continuously stabs at our enemies' side, a warrior, a leader, a…companion." The words made Enryu raise his head in befuddlement.
"Companion?" he repeated.
"Indeed, you have that qualification, I can see it, that fire that burns in your heart. Ambition, but guided with purpose and levelheadedness. You will make a great addition to my little group here." Ichigo said resolutely.
"But I…" Enryu wanted to protest but, something about the way he said the words companions, like he truly meant it, as if he had been waiting for someone like him to appear one day.
"Enryu, will you be a guiding hand that leads the way forward. A hero in our time of need." Ichigo continued.
Enryu remained silent, and he soon realized that for all the mans talk about freedom of choice, he had a way of roping someone into his flow, a way to make you feel like you can do anything as long as you stand at his side.
He found that he quite liked the thought of it.
"I will aspire to your expectations." Enryu bowed his head.
"No, exceed them, and you will see that the future we seek is within our reach."
Rising to his feet, Ichigo walked down the steps from his throne as he approached Enryu.
"Rise." Enryu did so, and was met with a genuine smile from the man as he had his hand out in the form an age-old greeting.
"Together." Ichigo said.
Enryu hesitated for a moment at the monumental decision he was about to make, but…
Golden eyes that pierced into his being, a smile that could make a room glow up, a presence that sheltered all under its wing.
If for a moment, Enryu felt a sense of awe and inadequacy, but, the man who was more than met the eye had looked to him for support. For all his power, the future he sought was one where all would have a place if they put their faith in him.
He would do the same, for a better future, a greater tomorrow.
"Mother…if only you could see me now."
"Together."
He grasped the hand that would one day lead them towards their ultimate victory, one helped paved by the heroes that would rise.
She watched.
The darkness closes, ruination raining from the sky, the world trembles as the corruption seeps into its body.
And watched.
Fires burn the landscape, the feeble life struggle for survival across its surface, oceans surged, earth quakes, and storms rage, defiance as the ENEMY faces its full wrath.
And watched…
The children, they die by the thousands, some pitifully, while others fighting to their last dying breath, all in an effort to overturn the outcome, but it's far too late, too late to stop it now.
Till it all came to an end.
The skies grow dark, Mother has grown quiet, her corpse but a withered husk, her dying echoes a cacophony of despair and rage as the maggots dig deep.
Now only Darkness remained.
And she is alone.
Darkness, that was all she knew the moment she was born.
The thrumming of war, the raging sea of thoughts, malice and despair consuming life and heart like a raging fire.
She knew of the bitter songs, of dying light, and false promises.
For in a world tainted by the abyss, only the silence remained.
And she was good at being silent.
Withering light floated aimlessly within the ocean of black that was her home. Corruption long since rooted deep within the core of her palace. Yet, like a river not yet dried, a trickle of life had yet to give. Even if only stalling the inevitable.
But she knew that.
For buried deep within her core, the will of Mother continued to gnaw at her mind, even as broken as she was.
Defiance till the end.
Till her end.
The soft breath of her form is the only sound within this abyss, a reminder to how terribly alone her existence was. Her connection to the world she now cared for a waning string as her light withered within the seeping corruption that stained her pristine soul.
"How long?"
Her soft voice echoes in her mind.
"I can't keep this up much longer."
The strain of her mind being bombarded by the unending tide of malice that was the black sea. The churning waves an onslaught that battered against her weakening walls.
Centuries she resolved, and reinforced her mind against the tide. But like a mountain beaten down by the storm. Even her mightiest of walls would eventually crumble before the passage of time.
Till she was eventually eroded away.
"Forgive me, Mother."
It hurts, knowing that despite her best efforts, her sacrifice had been in vain. That despite her Mothers last wishes. She too would fall to that which had claimed their home.
Till only the rot remained.
In the dark contemplations of her mind, she found her thoughts turning to a people that once walked, or continued to walk across her rotten form. She remembered them, a proud and arrogant people, mother once deemed them enemy, but, in time, she saw them as foolish children that needed a guiding hand.
She both loved and detested them.
As for her, well, in the brief time she had known them, she bore witness to their resilience, their might, and passion. Even as they fell against the tide, she remembered them for the brave and heroic beings they were.
Noble even.
Mother had once told her of the legends. Of heroes that would rise and face down great adversities in the greatest hour of need. Of how they would create miracles that would leave even the gods themselves in awe. Whether or not the stories had a glimmer of truth, the fact remained, that no such miracle came to them in their hour of need.
No hero came for her.
Yet...
Within the centuries she had remained dormant within this prison of despair, a silent hope had remained rooted within her pale heart.
That one day.
One day…
Her hero would come for her.
it was a naïve thought.
For no heroes existed within this world any longer.
None would come for her.
Time had ceased to be, the future was but a hollow thought, and her will would eventually cease to be as all was swallowed by the black tide.
So why?
Why?
Did her heart begin to beat?
Thump*
There.
Thump*
Again.
Thump* Thump*
"…"
Slowly, like water poured unto a dying plant, she felt comfort she had since lost within her prison. Her withered form slowly regaining the pristine image she once had.
But she would need more to fully recuperate her functions.
Drip*
As if to answer her unspoken thoughts. A flowing stream began descend towards her, feeding her with renewed energy, restoring her heart, her will, her power.
So much power.
Her eyes began to slowly flutter open.
And for the first time since the start of her imprisonment.
She saw it.
The light.
And she knew…
"Have you finally come for me?"
The tide receded, the abyss shrunk in on itself. The all-encompassing light cleansed the foul rot, her form growing in strength the longer she bathed in the rays of this unknown power.
Ancient and Powerful.
Rising to her feet, she watched the abyss struggle in rampant rage, yet nothing could stop the light from breaking through as it crashed down onto the abyss. Her prison shattering as she beheld the light, golden in splendor.
Her slender hand moved to touch that light.
And as she grasped it, did she finally understand that her hope was not as naïve as she had believed.
"My hero."
Through scouring the Earth, Ichigo had come across the fragments of Gaia's will. His primordial power having helped him in revealing them by cleansing the earth from the corruption that had seeped into it long ago. By collecting enough of them, did Ichigo finally hear the last request of the will of the planet.
"Save Her, and she will be your greatest ally."
Like that, Ichigo embarked on his quest to find this last daughter of Gaia.
It took months, but with the help of Kisuke and Aizen, Ichigo had been able to determine where the place could be, it took many days of scouring the darkest regions of the world that had fallen to taint. But he finally found the prison that housed this mysterious individual.
His Power thrummed, the cracked earth at his feet revitalized as the once withered region found newfound energy that seeped life into it. His primordial power giving them the life it once had as the rot was cleansed and the abyss began to dissipate before his eyes.
Down, deeper and deeper, till it reached the core.
Ichigo let his light pierce the darkness, till it found his query.
Tug*
His eyes snapped open as he finally found what he was looking for. He could feel her, so weak, so tainted. Yet, within her withered form, an ounce of life still remained, her will defiant, yet beaten.
Ichigo couldn't help but feel pity for the unfortunate soul that had to endure so much torment, but at the same time a sense of admiration consolidated within him that she had not given in to the ruinous energies in that abyss. Ichigo let his power shroud her, protecting and nurturing her, gifting her newfound energy to awaken her.
He could feel her feed off from his power, her functions being restored, her body cleansed, her will renewed. Feelings of gratitude and curiosity were sent through their shared link, and he could only smile as he felt a sort of kinship with this individual. After all, he too had found himself within the jaws of despair as the end had come, only for a helping hand to renew the hope he once lost.
The irony of the situation was not lost on him.
Still, once he had fed her enough of his power, did he begin to feel the earth beneath his feet churn and rumble as something began to rise from the bowels of the earth.
Roots deep within the earth roiled as they pushed past the soil, till they reached the surface in a shower of cracked earth. An enormous stem burst forth, the greenish hue filled with energy as the enormous white flower atop began to blossom.
Ichigo looked up transfixed as his eyes beheld the figure within the flower.
Fair skin that glowed under the light of his power, pointed ears like those of an elf, green markings along her neck and shoulders stopping at her collar bone, a tattoo of sorts. White flowing hair that fashioned into a long braid at the side, with green tips that glowed at her power. Finally, her eyes, a vibrant green with a most curiously shaped pupil, not unlike a clover. As they fluttered open before him, gazing down at him, Ichigo felt transfixed by her beauty. Though his musings were suddenly broken as the woman who was still weakened by her imprisonment, fell from the petals of her flower.
Pushing himself forward, Ichigo caught her within his arms, silently musing to himself how soft and light she felt in his arms.
"Mmm~" her voice moaned at Ichigo's touch, as he realized just where he had planted his hands at her sudden fall.
Only then did he become keenly aware of her current lack of clothing.
Ahem*
Closing his eyes, a white robe manifested, shrouding her naked form that he got a good glimpse out of, his cheeks colored a light pink at the situation he found himself in.
Though his thoughts were soon broken by a feathered touch upon his face, slender fingers caressing him as he turned his gaze back to those of her luminous ones.
A kind smile greeted him as supple rosy lips quirked up.
"My Hero."
Her first words left him stunned for a moment, before an amused smile found a way into his own.
"That's one way to look at it, what's your name by the way." Ichigo asked.
The woman contemplated his words, till a name reached his ears.
"Rukkhadevata, that was the name Mother gave me." She said.
"Rukkhadevata? a good name." Ichigo complimented her, bringing a smile to her face once more.
"By the way, my name is Ichigo Kurosaki." Ichigo introduced himself.
"Ichigo? Thank you, for saving me." She said, her words cast in deep gratitude.
"How did you find me?" Rukkhadevata asked him suddenly.
"You can thank your mother for that, she's the reason I even became aware of you in the first place. The rest was simply narrowing down your location." Ichigo revealed much to her shock.
"Mother…" the thought of her made Rukkhadevata saddened, though she felt happy, knowing that in her final moments, she had thought of her.
"I know it may be a bit soon, but, tell me, what exactly do you plan to do from now on." Ichigo asked the young woman.
"I…don't know. My purpose was to fight against the corruption that had seeped into my home. Where Mother failed I was meant to replace her, and carry the burden as the worlds will. But now…I have lost that connection, the world had died long ago, there is nothing left but the blood that has yet to dry, give a few more years and nothing but a husk will remain." Rukkhadevata informed Ichigo. Though he had long since known of the planets situation to be shocked by it.
"Then it seems you have lost your path." Ichigo mused.
Shaking her head, Rukkhadevata continued.
"Not exactly, if, given enough time and power, I can cleanse this world and restore it anew, giving it life back. Though I fear I won't be able to in my current state. Without the leylines, I don't have the means to do so, not without help at least." She explained as she tuned to him.
"Then perhaps we can help one another." Ichigo began.
"You see, I'm trying to restore humanity back to its former glory. To rebuild our empire from the ashes. I will lead humanity to a new age. This world, the cradle of humanity, is also in my plans to restore. As such, why don't you join me, Rukkhadevata, we can help one another, and perhaps, you will find yourself a place within my circle." Ichigo revealed his plans to Rukkhadevata who contemplated his words.
"You are filled with grand ambitions, but, do you truly believe you can do it?" Rukkhadevata questioned, a hint of sadness in her voice.
"What do you mean?" Ichigo asked.
"I have watched your people before, when they were much stronger than they are now, when the stars themselves were within your reach, when the darkness had come, and with it, your downfall. Your people had fought bravely, but, much like this world, so too did they face annihilation. I fear that you will only repeat the mistakes of the past." Pessimism layered her voice as memories of old replayed in her mind.
"Well, we might not be much to look at now, but, in a few years, who can say, after all, the current world has something the old one didn't." Ichigo argued.
"Oh? And what would that be?" Rukkhadevata questioned, a puzzled look on her face.
"Simple really."
Their surroundings began to shift, the cracked earth healed, grass began to grow, tall trees sprouted from the earth, and with it a flowing stream as a river formed. The toxic air had been cleansed bringing in the fresh scent of the forest. The sky parted, the thick clouds parted revealing the light of the sun, as rays shone brilliantly upon the clearing they found themselves in. Flowers of all kind blossomed with but a touch of the light's radiance.
Throughout all this, Rukkhadevata eyes appeared dazzled, as she beheld the beauty before her, so much different from the abyss she had been held in. Yet, upon looking back towards her savior, did she see his gaze, as golden orbs shone brilliantly, a confident smile on his face as his form eclipsed the sun.
"Me."
His simple answer baffled her momentarily.
She had seen the height of humanity before, she had watched as they fell to ruin. She had watched gods perish, even as the world died around her, the tide seemed unstoppable as they had surrounded them from all sides.
Yet, this man, so confidently declared himself to rise above the rest.
The logical part of her would have scoffed at his answer.
And yet…
She couldn't.
Held so close, she could feel the breath with the rise and fall of his chest, the strength in his arms, his smile that held all the confidence in the world, and his eyes…
Determination and Power beyond measure.
Lowering her gaze, Rukkhadevata couldn't meet his eyes any longer as she felt a heat rise to her face.
"Perhaps. If it's you."
"Then there might be hope after all." She didn't say the words aloud, but, she could not deny the thoughts as she beheld this man that was more than met the eye.
"So, how about it, care to join me on my journey towards a new world." Ichigo asked once more.
This time, Rukkhadevata shut down any doubts she had. If mother had thought her anything, it was that sometimes the whims of fate tend to lead others to unexpected meetings.
She liked to think this was one of those times.
"I would be willing to see where this goes." Rukkhadevata agreed.
Pleased with her answer, Ichigo decided to venture back home, the place where it all would begin.
"Then let's be off, and I will show you the future I promise you."
With Rukkhadevata in his arms, Ichigo embarked on his journey back home. All the while Rukkhadevata finally enjoyed a blissful moment in her life.
Even if only for a moment.
Sleep was an unnecessary function for someone like him.
Gifted with infinite stamina and an untiring mind, Ichigo had no need to let his body rest, or require sustenance to keep his body going. Immortal as he was. The fruit had given him all that he would need to accomplish his goals.
He lacked nothing.
Yet, when in the late hours of the night, when he found himself planning the road ahead. He would sometimes stop and think, to fall into deep meditation till the rising dawn would bring him back to the present.
In that deep contemplation.
He would sometimes find himself, envisioning the future, without having to activate his powers to see it.
He would see himself in a flower field, a gentle breeze against his face as the brightness of day blinded him, only for a shadow to shield him from the light. From there, he would hear the giggle of a woman, as he felt the soft touch of fingers massaging his head while he laid against something soft. Then he would reach out to touch the veiled figure, and…she was gone, as the vision ended.
He could never identify the figure, like a veil over his eyes, unable to discern the outcome.
He found it fascinating.
Though, as time went on, he found that vision repeating itself over and over within his mind.
Sometimes, as he walked around the city, as he mingled with his people, he would suddenly stop and look around as something would cross his vision.
A flutter of pink, followed by white.
That familiar voice giggling in his ear.
He was never fast enough to identify the figure as they would disappear past the corner of his eyes.
He wondered if perhaps he was hallucinating, illusions cast by his own mind.
But…
Strangely, he didn't mind these delusions, if that's in fact what they were.
If it was so, he didn't mind deluding himself, if for a moment.
She was here, that much he knew.
So ephemeral, yet strangely comforting. Like a summer breeze, the lightness of her touch, followed by the musical tones of her voice, enchanting.
He could feel the stress he developed over the days and weeks wash away. Though he would never show it, as the one who everyone looked up to, he would always strive to show his Fortitude. No matter what came before him, he would follow it with all the poise and confidence he could muster, unshaken and steadfast.
But here…
She was his respite.
For all his talk of perceived invincibility, even someone like him had to learn to unwind once in a while, the human in him demanded it. Though, he never imagined it to be under the care of a stranger that gave him a sense of…familiarity.
He could feel it within him, a bond so pure and whole.
He let his hand reach out towards the veiled figure.
Only for it to meet nothing but air as the dream ended.
Orange lashes fluttered open, revealing golden orbs as he stared at his room, the sun's rays casting long shadows upon his golden throne, shrouding him.
Yet a small smile began to play on his lips as he could still feel the presence of someone, a heart that beat with his own. So infinitely close yet out of reach at the same time.
He wondered.
"What a beautiful dream."
The vibrant green of the forest was a pleasant distraction from all the gold and white of his city, a change of scenery as he walked towards an unknown destination. Having had his companions take charge over the city while he was away, most of them didn't bat an eye, having gotten used to his sudden excursions into the outside world. They trusted that he would return as usual, more than likely with new individuals in turn, whomever they may be.
In a sense they would be right.
Bringing his hand to his chest, Ichigo could feel the rise and fall with every breath, along with the beating of his heart. But more than that, it was the mysterious link he had felt that day that he was after.
Someone was calling him.
Urging him.
He finally decided to chase after that feeling.
The forest grew denser with every step, the light peeking through the branches of the canopy. His golden orbs gazed ahead, searching, following that link that bound him to another.
The light grew stronger, and before he knew it, he stood at a clearing.
A field of flowers.
Golden orbs took in the scenery before him, flowers as far as the eye could see, all of them in full bloom. The warmth of summer, a fine breeze that swept over the clearing, and the blue sky which held lazy clouds drifting about. It was a picturesque scene. But above all that, it was the strange feeling that had overcome him the moment he stepped foot here.
This place was…too perfect.
The colors were more vibrant, the air cleaner, the radiance of the sun shone brighter. He could feel deep ancient powers in this place. Yet out of reach and sight.
Like a little piece of heaven had fallen unto the earth.
"Ah, so that's your game."
An amused smile found its way to his face. for he realized just where he was.
"Is this your doing old man?" he questioned, though no one answered.
Stepping forwards, Ichigo languid gaze swept over the land, his body relaxed. After all, there was no enemy here, no harm could fall to him while in this realm. Under the watchful eyes of the heavenly father.
"Eden." He announced that name as if confirming his own thoughts.
Having travelled through the unknown forest while following the link, it appeared that he had stumbled his way into heaven. Specifically, the Garden of Eden.
"Still, why is a pathway to heaven in some random forest near my city? Was it transitioned after my conquest, is the old man establishing his connection with the broken world?" Ichigo did not understand the why or how, but, whatever was going on involved him in some way.
Lost in thought as he was, he almost failed to hear that familiar laugh that tickled his ear and set his heart aflutter.
"…"
Stopping in his tracks, Ichigo's eyes widened as he felt a familiar presence ahead of him. Accompanied by a humming tune of someone singing a soft melody.
Ruffle* shift*
His steps resumed, the heavy footfall of his greaves against the sacred ground of the ancient garden rang hollow in his ears, completely enthralled to the melody that befell him. He felt it, deep within his core, his very being emboldened to pursue that song.
Strolling through the garden, Ichigo could see a tree in the distance. The faint melody sounding clearer the closer he got towards it.
And upon arriving, he saw her.
Sitting at the base of a tree, the flowers of all color and shape surrounding her, a white dove laid on her open palm as she sang her gentle melody.
She is beautiful.
No, beautiful alone would not do her justice.
She was ethereal. If perfection was an illusion that all beings strived for, then she was that ephemeral concept that all things desired to be.
She is everything he could hope for.
Long pink hair that cascaded down like a waterfall, supple fair skin that looked soft to the touch, enticing him. Pristine white clothes shrouded her form, like that of wedding dress adorned with the colors of gold, purple, and pink. A vale was on the side of her head.
He could not see her eyes as she had them closed while continuing her song, unaware of his presence.
Much like the dove, Ichigo simply decided to stand there and watch.
Captivated.
As the soft melody came to an end, her eyes slowly fluttered open, revealing vibrant pink orbs to the world.
Step*
Startled, upon hearing a strange noise, the dove in her hand fled as wings sprang open and took to the skies. Though her attention was drawn to the man that was slowly approaching her.
She smiled.
Ichigo could feel his heart pound in his chest, mesmerized by her beauty, her smile so lovely to his eyes as those rosy pink lips quirked up.
Rising to her feet, the woman appeared to wait for his approach, her gentle countenance urging him forward.
Golden orbs stared into pink ones, a thousand words, a thousand meetings, a thousand lifetimes, all at once, he knew her.
She knew him.
He smiled. It was a gentle smile, one he only ever used for her.
Though it was the first meeting between these two. It was more like a reunion of two lost souls finally meeting one another across the vastness of time and space.
A love that has existed since the moment they were born.
He could feel her.
She could feel him.
Their hearts beating as one.
Their souls yearning for the other.
Like two halves of a whole, the two coming together as one to achieve completion.
Taking her hand in his, Ichigo planted a soft kiss on her knuckles.
"A pleasure, my name is Ichigo Kurosaki, may I have the honor of knowing your name my lovely lady~" Ichigo ever the gentleman began. Though he already knew her in his heart and soul, a thousand words and promises made in an instant. He would still make this a memory to look back on fondly. For this was not a first meeting, but a reunion.
Her laugh was like the breeze brushing against the skin, her voice like the chords of a harp, a melody that transcended pleasure.
Rosy lips parted as she introduced herself.
"Elysia~"
"Elysia. A most beautiful name for one such as you." Releasing her hand, Ichigo conjured two seats and a table, as drinks were already served.
"May I." Ichigo spoke as he held his hand to her.
"What a gentleman." Linking her hand with his, Ichigo walked her towards her seat, with the garden as their setting. The two spoke with one another, getting to know one another. Ichigo speaking of his adventures, and Elysia of her observations. Though they've known each other since the beginning, this reunion was one they've long since wanted to savor.
"I've watched you closely, every action, every word, and I'll admit, your courage, your honor, your strength. With all of that, you could have simply taken everything as yours. Yet, you don't. You seek the long and hard way, you don't force, but persuade, you let your actions speak for you, your words become truth. Yet these mortals, so weak, so broken, you wish to save them, why?" Though she watched him all this time, her focus was mainly on him, and though the answer was before her, it eluded her, experience and understanding not something she could garner from mere sight alone.
"You desire to understand. Hmm, yes, it is simple really." Putting his cup down, Ichigo stared deeply into her eyes.
"Humans, as you said, are indeed weak, alone they would bend and break at the slightest force. Even at the height of their power, they were brought low. Yet…" his voice took a different tone. "The courage, the will, the strength that they have fostered in the face of adversity, though alone they fall, together, they are unbreakable. One need only stoke the embers to reignite the hope they had lost." Ichigo explained.
"This hope you speak of, explain it." Elysia asked curiously.
"From the heart of every man born, a desire to reach the coming dawn, that tomorrow may come, it is a beautiful thing. The future that is. That is the hope that I foster, the hope that I will bring forth for ages to come. I will guide them to the rising dawn. Me and you, and the ones I have chosen." Ichigo revealed.
"You love them." She stated.
"…" Ichigo mused over that for a second.
"I love what they can become. They are young, so much to learn and experience, if I can harness that will to push forward and never stop, I wonder just what the future will hold." He smiled as he took a drink.
"Would I have a place in your kingdom." Elysia joked.
"Need you ask, I would have you by my side, together." Reaching his hand across the table, Ichigo gently linked their hands together, fingers intertwining.
The sun was beginning to set in the garden, the orange glow of the sun casting shadows.
Standing up, Elysia did the same as Ichigo moved to embrace her. Her soft body pressing against his solid one, like a puzzle fitting perfectly against his form. Her rosy scent like a drug to his soul. If he could he would stay here forever with her, but destiny had other things in store for them.
"Come with me, Elysia, I need you." Though he had spoken of how he would lead mankind, the truth was, he needed the cooperation of everyone if he were to achieve the goal he wanted. Not just the ascension of mankind, but what came after.
A millennium of war and suffering like none other.
The Adversary, his enemy, still resided out there. His dark armies causing untold destruction even as he remained here.
Though he wished he alone had the strength to carry the fate of the world, he knew that others must rise if the future was to be salvaged.
Hope had to prevail.
Heroes must rise.
Victory no matter the cost.
"If you would have me, I will follow you unto eternity." She spoke softly yet resolutely, her wish conveyed to him as he felt their hearts beat as one.
Staring into her determined eyes, Ichigo smiled, before cupping her face, lowering his head, and planting a soft kiss on his wife's lips. He could taste her, her supple lips, her tongue, her breath against his, her heat against his own. Slender arms reached up towards the back of his head, grasping his hair and pushing him to deepen the kiss.
Time was never enough, as this singular moment stretched unto eternity.
There they stood, thirteen before the tree that sustained creation as a whole, bearing the universe in its roots, worlds upon worlds filling its leaves, the stars on its canopy.
This was the "center" of all of creation.
"My brothers and sisters, my comrades, my friends." Ichigo began as he saw their awestruck expressions, not so different from his own when he was first brought here.
"I bring you here to give you a choice, one I hope that you will all accept with the highest of honor." He continued. "You stand before the tree of creation, the source of my power, my authority and charge. To be here means one thing and one thing only." Looking upon their firm expressions he knew what he will say next would shock them.
"I have chosen you, you who have followed me unto this path, unwavering and devoted, putting your all for the resurgence of man. But more than that, the future that I spoke of, a dream to many, but a reality for us. Earth is but a small step towards the future, and I won't lie, not to you, you who have given more than anyone else." Looking at them with utmost pride he continued.
"It will be tough, bloody, and brutal, the battles that will come will test our resilience, but we will not, cannot falter, the journey ahead will test us all, every last man, woman, and child. We must be strong. Never lose hope, and push forward with all our might." His words were inspiring.
"So, to prepare for this eventuality, I made a decision. One that will have us be the heroes I know we can be." Turning around Ichigo approached the trunk before doing something that shocked his companions.
BAM*
From the top of the trees, something began to fall, it was a golden orb at first, but it soon revealed itself to be a fruit, an apple.
Grasping it in his hand, Ichigo gazed upon that which had given him all that he is. A nostalgic look in his eyes before affirming his resolve.
"A gift." Showing them the apple, many gazed at it in wonder.
"Stand with me, at my side, as equals." His words were filling them with expectation.
"Be the swords and shields for all of creation, in defense of all that is beautiful in this world."
The space trembled, worlds upon worlds, galaxies and stars, shook upon the wave of power washing over the realm. Trillions felt the wave, yet it was the mighty who shuddered before the combined ascension of twelve transcendents.
Eyes peered into the storm of change, the future changing, destiny and fate rewritten, new paths open while old ones closed. the very fabric of time and space shattered and renewed.
Within the realm of the gods, many held their breath as they witnessed the birth of twelve heroes, legends in the making. Some could not help but smile, others looked on indifferently, yet many scowled.
Yet one could not help but look on with an amused look, his all-knowing gaze peering into not the ascension, but at a singular individual, a boy who he knew to be the hope he had fostered.
"Ichigo…"
Within the darkness, a being of untold malice existed, its form ever shifting, seemingly encompassing the entire space, yet silently stirring from its bloody throne. A mountain of corpses raising his vile existence like a black sun, the shine of his scarlet crown being the only light in this dark haven. Yet it was a wave of power that washed over the abyss that caused the break in its years long slumber.
Bulging red eyes from all over its body fluttered open, its desiccated gray flesh rippling grotesquely, a malicious snarl distorting its features across a fang filled mouth, a grotesque amalgamation of flesh and blood, a cancer that sought only destruction and death.
Within its forsaken existence, a singular thought seemed to rise in answer of his enemies call. His adversary. Champions of creation.

Its voice distorted, a curse in the form of speech, madness and chaos all at once.
Yet, it raised its visage to the light, challenge in its blood red eyes that glowed with the hatred of a thousand suns.
And in one warbled cry, its challenge resounded throughout all of creation, for every being, for every insignificant lifeform to shiver in fear at the coming storm.
The challenge was met.
They stood before him, one became thirteen, twelve risen to answer his call.
Sentience.
Finality.
Reason.
Geo.
Shadow.
Void.
Thunder.
Severance.
Domination.
Destruction.
Life.
Origin.
These twelve would join him in Victory.
Thirteen heroes.
Thirteen Legends.
Thirteen…
Monarchs.
Brown orbs fluttered open. Revealing an exhausted gaze within profound eyes that beguiled the age in them. Yet, within them, the last bits of an old memory still remained. A reminder to the greater destiny he held. A calling that he would one day meet.
"Guys, wait for me, I'm almost there." His thoughts were a promise to his companions, his friends that had been waiting for him all this time.
His ascension was nigh, and there was no one who would stop him from achieving it.
This he swore upon his name.
Rustle*
"Zzzz"
The sound of blankets shifting, as a body shifted in its sleep broke him away from his thoughts as he turned towards the source.
Crimson hair obscured a sleeping visage as soft breathing could be heard from the slumbering form of his beloved. Her features so peaceful as she slept comfortably against his form. it was as he thought this that memories of last night came back to him.
A smirk crossed his face as he thought of what he had done.
Letting himself rise, he let his elbow support him as he stared adoringly at Rias. His Rias. So beautiful and seductive, yet cute at the same time.
Letting his fingers play with a lock of her hair, Ichigo went over the details of last night in his mind. His content smile being the only hint as to his satisfaction.
It was in that moment, that he heard a loud knock on the door.
"Lady Rias, Breakfast is ready, Lord and Lady Gremory are waiting for you down stairs in the dining room!" Came the announcement by the maidservant.
Ichigo who had been slightly startled by the maid, shifted as he felt Rias being roused to consciousness. Her blue eyes fluttering open as a tired sigh escaped her lips. Using her hands to rub the sleepiness away, Rias soon felt a presence near her as she looked up.
Blue met Brown.
"Morning Princess~" Ichigo smirked.
Rias seemed startled for a moment before last night's events cleared her mind. It was as she thought of all the things that they had done, that a resplendent smile overcame her.
"Ichigo~" she called his name alluringly.
"You heard the maids, C'mon, lets go have breakfast before we depart back to Kuoh." Ichigo said as he moved to get up.
Rias who was still feeling the effects of last night, almost collapsed unto her floor, only stopping herself by grabbing unto the bed.
"Oh my!" she cried out in slight surprise.
"Woah! you alright." Ichigo called out to her in slight concern.
"I'm alright, just a slight limp in my leg is all." Rias replied.
"Oh…Ohhh!~" Realization made him rub the back of his head in slight awkwardness.
"Hmm~" Rias hummed knowingly.
"Here let me help you." Sweeping her up in his arms, Ichigo held Rias in the princess carry, her naked form pressed against his own, though it was this contact of skin that made them realize just how sticky they felt after last night's activities.
"A bath would be in order, don't you think." Rias commented.
"Yeah, just what I was thinking." Luckily for them, Rias room came with one installed.
Though as Ichigo moved, the feeling of Rias pressed against him, as he got a good look at her voluptuous body did things to his mind and body. Rias was quick to catch on to him as she felt his grip on her tighten along with his morning wood rising up to the occasion.
"My my~ someone's happy to see me I see~" Rias smirked as she lowered her arm to give his member a few strokes.
"Um~ Rias, perhaps we should continue this in the bath, don't you think." Ichigo intentions quite clear.
"We'll be late for breakfast then." She warned.
"Trust me, I'll make it quick." He said as he closed the bathroom door behind him.
It wasn't until a few minutes later that a passing maid in charge of cleaning this part of the hallway, began to hear faint cries and the occasional thumping sound against the wall to her right.
Stopping momentarily, the maid appeared confused before she heard it again.
"Huh?" slowly approaching the wall, the maid pressed her ear against it. Using her demonic enhanced hearing, the noises she heard began to sound just a tiny bit clearer.
"Ahn! Hah! Fuck! Harder! Give it to me! Ichigo!"
Flinging herself away from the wall like she had touched fire. The maid's stunned expression began to heat up in embarrassment as she realized just what was going on behind these walls.
"I should go!" she thought before quickening her step so as to leave the two to their activity. After all, it didn't take a genius to put two and two together to realize that room belonged to Rias Gremory, that and the fact that she was currently engaged with sir Ichigo Kurosaki, the dragon emperor, the one who had lay low the mighty champion of the rating game.
Still in another part of the maid's mind, she couldn't help but feel envious of her young mistress, to enjoy being in the arms of such a fine specimen.
It wouldn't be long till the maids began to whisper amongst themselves as to the events of that day.
And End.
I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter. I'll admit I had a lot of trouble writing it and coming up with lore for each individual character, but i'd like to think I did a fine job. Despite all the writers block I got from it that is.
Honestly not much to say here aside from the fact that i decided to make Rukkhadevata a daughter of Gaia, she's also the character that gave me the toughest challenge in writing lore about. Due to the nature of her existence that is.
Aside from that, i hopw you liked the Elysia and Ichigo meeting.
In my head I envisioned these two as Adam and Eve. Two halves of the same whole. Ichigo the pathfinder and Elysia his partner, for she was born of him and for him. Her existence is integral to Ichigo as his dearest wife. His true love.
Though one was made to be a Hero, the other was born to be one. That is Elysia, she who has been at his side the whole time through his Journey, watching him, learning from him. He is her idol, her love, and she is his partner, his hope, and respite.
If one fails, the other can be that which supports them to move forward.
Well enough of that.
Next chapter we move towards the Excalibur arc, as well something I got cooking in the background. That and expect the Honkai girls and Fire moth organization to play a key role moving forward.
Ichigo's ascension is nigh.
The Monarch will return.
Till then.
Have a great day.
And thanks for reading.
