Chapter 2: My Old Frigid Friend

The police were escorting Day to Arkham Asylum with the Batmobile following behind them as they were crossing the bridge to Arkham Island. They eventually stopped right in front of the Intensive Treatment building which is where all the most dangerous patients of the asylum were kept. As soon as Gordon and Batman brought the newly convicted killer inside, they were met with the head of the asylum, Warden Quincy Sharp who was honestly not too big a fan of Batman. "Welcome to your new home, Mr. Day. We'll make sure you receive the best rehabilitation programs Arkham Asylum has to offer.", the warden said. "I'll be the judge of that, Warden. If I am ever cured of my mental illness as you people think of it as, it's going to take a long time for that to happen. But we'll see if it does. Just take it one day at a time.", Calendar Man said. "Enough with talking about days and the calendar, will you! You've been babbling on and on about that stuff the whole ride up here.", Gordon said. "I'll take him from here, Captain. Guards, please show Mr. Day to his cell.", Sharp instructed the security guards who took Day by his cuffed arms. "Come on, Holiday Boy. Let's get you where you belong.", one of the guards said as he and his friend led the killer away. Sharp then looked at Batman and immediately felt uneasy. This was due to the fact he personally thought Batman was a cancer upon Gotham and feared someone like him would only unleash more of the city's psychotic residents and because he was scary as Hell. "Is there a problem, Warden?", Batman asked as he took notice to Sharp giving him a dirty look. "No, no problem at all. I guess I just should have expected you would be involved with bringing in a madman like this Calendar Man. Especially seeing as how you seem to be as mad as anyone else in here.", Sharp answered. "Hey! We've been over this, Sharp. Batman is not crazy! He's been a big help to us and to the city over these last several months.", Gordon defended Batman. "I wouldn't consider someone who dresses up as a bat to scare bad people as not crazy. Just know that I'll always be glad to have a cell ready for him if he ever shows any sign of mental instability.", Sharp said. Batman got closer to Sharp menacingly and said, "Don't you have work you should get to?". Sharp got even more nervous after Batman said that and did as was suggested and left to go to his office. "I really don't know what his problem is with you.", Gordon said. "He just doesn't like me. He's not the only one.", Batman said. "Anyway, thanks again for everything tonight.", Gordon said. "Don't mention it. While I'm here, I want to pay a visit to an old friend of mine.", Batman said. Gordon knew he was talking about Mr. Freeze who has been here ever since he tried to kill his ex-boss last Summer. Due to the shocking revelations that led to his creation. Arkham allowed Freeze to continue his research into curing his wife's Huntington's Chorea while she is in cryonic suspension while serving his sentence at the same time. "Ok. Are you sure you won't need that bulkier suit you wore to protect you from freezing?", Gordon asked. "I'll be fine. Goodnight, Jim.", Batman said to the captain. Gordon left and Batman made his way to the private lab where Freeze was. The temperature was below freezing so Freeze could stay alive without wearing his suit. Nora was in the lab with him while still in suspended animation in her icy prison. Freeze himself was doing research on his computer and taking notes and was unaware of Batman coming up behind him. "Hello, Victor.", Batman said. Victor jumped out of his chair and grabbed one of his ice guns out of shock. He immediately lowered it once he saw it was Batman. "Oh, Batman. You startled me.", Freeze said. "That's my thing. How's the work coming along?", Batman asked. "Progress is definitely being made, but not as fast as I would like. Although, it's better than no progress at all.", Freeze said. He looked over and couldn't help but stare at how beautiful Nora looked even when she was floating almost lifelessly behind the glass. "Isn't she the most beautiful thing you've ever seen in your whole life, Batman?", Freeze asked. Batman still looked emotionless, but agreed. "Yes. You're lucky to have found someone like her.", Batman said. "That's exactly why I must find a cure for her. She's the greatest thing that's ever happened to me and I won't lose her.", Victor said while his hand was on the glass. "Maybe after she's cured, you can work on finding a cure for yourself. So you can finally thaw your heart of ice.", Batman said. "That's what I hope to do. But for now, my concern is for her, not me.", he said. A guard came in with a parka on and said, "Ten more minutes of tinkering, Freeze; then it's time to call it a night and go back to your cell.". Victor didn't want to stop working, but also didn't want to argue with the guard especially since they're willing to make his sentence shorter as long as he is on good behavior. "Very well.", Freeze said. "Well, I'll let you finish up and keep me posted on things.", Batman said. "I will, and I just wanted to say thanks again for everything you've done...", Victor said and stopped as he turned around, but saw Batman was gone. "How on Earth can one man move that fast?", Victor said to himself.
