The story of the Republic of Orith is really about two species. The Jathids and the Donapians. It was fifty years before Orith gained the technology needed to be space faring. One night in an observatory located in Orith's capital city Saham, a group of scientists led by Rongo Karauna and his wife Aputa Karauna, who were the grandparents of future president Amako Karauna, were observing a star that had recently gone supernova. This is the first time in Donapian history that a supernova has been observed. The supernova was far enough away where it won't affect Orith too much, yet close enough to be seen. It became a major event. Politicians made a speech about it, the news media made a variety of articles about it, and the Donapian space program received more funding. To those watching on Orith it was an amazing sight, but outside it was a different story.
It was a dark time for the Jathids. Their star was starting to die, and they had to leave as soon as possible. It all started when they noticed that the temperatures on their homeworld started to increase at an alarming rate. What was initially thought to be global warming and climate change turned out to be something worse. Something was wrong with their star. They sent a probe to the already growing red supergiant and their worst fears have been realized. Their star was about to go supernova and they needed to get out of there and find a new home.
The closest star with a habitable planet was one hundred light years away and it turns out to be Briax. It was the only option that the Jathids knew of. They packed whatever they could into small, unarmed ships. They even have ships designated for their homeworld's plant life and even ships designated for four breeding pairs of each of their homeworld's animals. All of that in an effort to take at least a part of their planet with them. They tried to get as many of their fellow Jathids with them. Unfortunately, they only have enough resources to evacuate three billion out of their species five billion individuals at the time.
The ships have left the Jathid homeworld and home system, decades ahead. Fifty years into their journey the sad day they have waited for their former home finally came. Inside the ships, they watched helplessly from video screens recorded by a probe in the outer reaches of their home solar system as the star went supernova, destroying the home they knew, the ones that were left behind, and the probe with it.
The journey was long and arduous. They had lost many ships along the way. The three billion that escaped, reduced to one billion. As they got closer, they detected radio signals coming from Briax. They sent a makeshift research probe there and discovered an alien civilization getting ready to venture into the stars. The Jathids found themselves in a difficult position. Someone else was already living in their chosen home. They came to a conclusion. To ask the other species permission to live with them on their homeworld in exchange for supporting their space exploration endeavors.
Meanwhile on Orith, it was a joyous occasion. The Donapians rang in the new year. Their Starbase to Briax had just been built by their first construction ship, the first science ship and their fleet had taken to the stars for the first time ever. President Amako Karauna announced that a new era has been brought about for all Donapians. An era where they get to leave the confines of Briax and explore new worlds and even discover alien life.
The Donapians are curious about the idea of alien life and wish to find it soon. They had no idea that their wish would come very soon and it would find them instead. After firing the celebratory flare into the sky ringing in the new year, Amako was contacted by the Republic of Orith Science Department and the Intelligence Bureau of Orith informing him that the crews aboard the science ship, construction ship, and the corvettes have witnessed a bunch of small unarmed ships headed right for Orith's atmosphere. Everyone on Orith was shocked to see them. Because the ships are unarmed Amako ordered the military to stand down and wanted to see why so many unarmed ships showed up to Orith.
Amako alongside Vice President Urangi Witika approached the ships as soon as they landed. When the doors to the ships opened a bunch of weary Jathids came out. Amako had come to the conclusion that something terrible has happened to the Jathids that they would show up in unarmed ships and in such a state of exhaustion. The leader of the Jathids approached Amako and Urangi and told them everything, even showing Amako and his presidential cabinet the video of the supernova that destroyed their home. The Jathids offer to assist the Donapians in assisting with space exploration and to build up their military prowess in exchange for staying on Orith as a new home. Prior to the loss of their homeworld, the Jathids were a military culture.
Amako, his cabinet, and the Republic of Orith's parliament started to discuss the situation. It was against Donapian nature to turn away those that are lost and destitute and to ignore a cry for help. Governor Eru Pikari broke the news to the Jathids that they are here to stay as Orith's first Non-Donapian citizens. Work went underway to provide jobs and housing for Orith's new residents. For the Jathids, they reached the light at the end of the tunnel, forever grateful that the Donapians gave them a new lease on life. Both species believe that a bright future is ahead of them as the Republic of Orith traverses into the unknown.
Author's Note: Hey everyone, sorry for note posting for a while. Just thought I would get back into gear a little bit before turning my focus back to my Tomb Raider fanfic: Heart of A Phoenix. I had to take bit of a break for a while, but now I'm back. The origin featured in this chapter, Wave of Refugees is from the mod, Origins Expanded. Another chapter for this will be in the works as soon as the mods I have in Stellaris will update.
