Dean - 29

Sam - 25

Kate - 21

The siblings had just taken a new case in northern Nebraska to keep busy. Dean made sure they jumped from case to case with little downtime, because if there were downtime, then the feelings would start to surface and he wasn't ready to deal with the fallout from his siblings about the crossroad deal he'd made four months ago to save Sam's life.

So they did what they did best - they hunted. Kate welcomed the distraction of a puzzling case because she also refused to dwell on the topic of Dean's bill coming due. If she let her mind focus on it, she'd be paralyzed by emotions. So not dealing was easier than dealing.

Onward march with the case it was - two bodies had been found so far, and the Winchester clan was really scratching their heads on what was happening as they continued to gather clues. Dean headed to the morgue to get additional details from the coroner, and he ordered Sam and Kate to go interview witnesses to see what the police had missed.

The younger sibling's first stop was the local gas station to talk with the cashier, Lucas, who had discovered one of the bodies out back. The Winchesters quickly found him out back on his break and cornered him on the picnic bench.

"Lucas Johanson?" Sam asked as they approached.

"Who's asking?" the twenty-five-year-old replied as he brushed his brown hair out of his eyes and looked up.

Kate and Sam flashed their badges. "FBI. We want to talk about the recent body found here," Sam stated matter-of-factly.

When Lucas saw Kate, an immediate smirk pulled at his lips. "Please, be my guest," he said as he motioned for her to join him. Sam picked up on the interaction but brushed it off, seeing it as harmless how he was paying way more attention to her.

After they sat down, Kate dove right in, not wanting to waste any time on this case, "Why don't you tell us what you saw, Lucas?"

His smirk didn't fade as his bloodshot eyes looked Kate up and down, well at least as far as the table would let him anyway. He briefly bit his bottom lip before replying, "Like I told the other cops–"

She interrupted, wanting to make a point. "We're not cops. We're FBI."

Well that was sexy - his interest immediately piqued. He nodded in understanding before replying, "I came out here on my break and walked around back to throw out the trash. And that's when I saw an arm stickin' out from behind the dumpster. So that's when I found her." He stared only at Kate.

Sam looked at Lucas, his eyes narrowing a bit. But he wouldn't make a mountain out of a molehill - yet. "Did you only see her arm? Nothing else sticking out of the dumpster, or anywhere around the dumpster?"

Lucas finally acknowledged Sam's presence. "Of course. When I saw her arm, I went back there to see what it was and that's when I saw the poor girl's body ripped to pieces. You could hardly make the body out. It was all blood and guts." He said it like he was casually talking about the weather.

Kate started checking off the monsters that didn't fit the profile as she continued on. "Was there anything else back there beside her body?"

His grin was back when the pretty lady spoke to him. Her voice was more enticing than the old lanky man's. "No, don't think so. She had her purse though. That's how the police could identify her. Other than that, didn't notice a thing out of place other than, you know, a shredded body." He clearly wasn't traumatized by the whole thing. He moved his hand across the table and tapped on it with his knuckles in front of Kate as if to grab her attention. "So tell me, how long are you in town for?"

Sam leaned forward into Lucas' personal space. "How about you tell ME why you don't seem too phased by finding a dismembered body in a dumpster behind your work."

Lucas held up his hands in retreat as he leaned back. "Calm down, dude. Clearly I'm freaked out. I mean who wouldn't be? But I grew up in, let's say, a rough part of town. Ain't the worst thing I've seen." He shrugged nonchalantly.

Kate leaned in, trying to play off his clear interest for her. It was what Dean would do, right? It could help them get to the bottom of this faster, and it wasn't harmful to show a bit of interest in a creepy guy. "Well that's hard I imagine. But are you sure there aren't any other details you recall? Any strange smells? Every piece of information helps."

Thrilled that she was showing interest in him, Lucas then leaned in as well, resting his elbows on the table to allow him to get closer. He took a big sniff of air. "Nothing smelled as good as you do, that's for sure." He flashed his crooked grin that revealed his uneven teeth.

Sam rolled his eyes and shot Kate a quick bitch face when he realized the angle she was playing. "Okay, so no strange smells. Did you notice anything else about the surrounding area? Like any wild animals or anything?"

"It's Nebraska, man. There are animals everywhere. Coyotes have been at it lately. Can hear the damn things when I'm workin' the night shift." He glanced at Kate. "Which can get pretty lonely, you know." He threw her a seductive wink, and Kate visibly stumbled to keep the bile from creeping up her throat. She tried to ignore the comment and push the vomit back down.

Once she was in control again, Kate pressed on, "So these coyotes, you ever seen them get close to humans?"

"Nah, they stay out in the woods, never seen one close to the Gas 'n Sip. If you want to go looking for them in the woods, I can be your tour guide." He was clearly meaning only him and Kate. His right hand inched closer to hers on the picnic table, but he hadn't touched her yet.

Sam cleared his throat, loudly and obviously, but Lucas fully ignored it. "Did you know the victim?" Sam asked. He also looked pointedly at the guy's hand, as if willing it to move.

"Nope, no idea who she was."

The hand did move - just not in the direction Sam had been hoping. Kate picked up on it but didn't move her hand in time, and Lucas's fingers grazed hers ever so briefly. Sam gave Kate a glare that said 'Move your hand away from this scum'. Kate was one step ahead and pulled her hand away, tucking it under the table as she glared at the guy. She was honestly disgusted and annoyed but she managed to keep her face stoic after years of practice shoving down her emotions. She wasn't used to this type of interaction with a witness, so it was throwing her off her game a bit.

"What's the matter sweetheart?" Lucas asked with a smirk.

Sam sat fully upright, making his size subtly known. "We are agents, sir. I suggest you use the appropriate term when addressing my partner."

Lucas slowly nodded, still unsure if he was going to take this goofball seriously. "Sorry 'bout that, Agent." He grinned.

"Okay then. Is there any other information you can provide to help with our investigation?" Sam asked, wanting to get the hell out of here for his sister's sake.

He paused to think and then snapped his fingers. "I have something to share, but I think it's best if I write it down." He turned to Sam. "Got a notepad, Mr. Agent?" He added extra emphasis to be a jerk.

With his teeth grinding together so hard they might break, Sam fished a notepad out of his jacket pocket and tossed it right in front of the scumbag.

Lucas nodded in fake appreciation and took the notepad to scribble down some information. He then turned with a coy smile and slipped it over to Kate. "No need to beg. Here's my number, honey."

Kate reacted on pure impulse, something she shared with Dean. She jumped up out of her seat and was about ready to reach over the table and strangle him for being an asshat.

Sam snatched her by the back of the collar and stood up, moving her away as he did. "Well that'll be it then. If you think of anything else-" He was about to say "call us", but that involved giving the scumbag their phone number, so instead he said, "Let the police know." He turned to Kate while still keeping a grip on her. "You good?" Basically asking if she wanted to kick his ass before they leave.

She brushed Sam's hand off her back and mumbled, "I'm fine." She was over this creep and started walking away, ready to put this worthless conversation behind her.

Lucas, being the douchebag he was, turned to Sam and bobbed his eyebrows as he watched that sweet ass walk away. "You tapped that, man?"

And Sam was done. He leaned in threateningly towards Lucas. "Please remember. I am an agent. And I have a gun." He pulled out his suit jacket to flash his gun. "And if you ever say anything like that again, I will shoot your tongue out." Without waiting for an answer, he turned and followed his little sister back to the car.

Lucas was left dumbfounded for a moment at the threat of a very tall agent, but he wasn't about to accept it, so he stood up and yelled back in clear annoyance, "Yeah, well she's probably not that good in bed anyway!"

Kate quickly turned on her heel and darted back toward the man like a person on a clear mission from God. She moved so fast that Sam didn't have a chance to grip her arm and stop her, but honestly, part of him didn't care to interfere. The guy had it coming. So instead, Sam quickly took in all his surroundings, trying to see how much damage control they'd have to do from any witnesses. Thankfully, none were in sight as they were behind the building still.

In five quick steps, Kate was back up in front of the sleazy guy. With a stoic face, she placed her hands on both of his shoulders and stared at him intently. For a brief moment, Lucas thought he'd actually won and she'd come to claim her prize. But before he had time to think on that more, he felt a swift knee to the jewels as she removed her hands from his shoulders, and then she punched him in the jaw, before taking back off toward the car.

With all his pride gone, Lucas immediately dropped to the ground and curled up in the fetal position to try and ease the pain radiating from his groin and face. He moaned for a moment before mustering up the energy to yell, "You bitch!"

Kate flipped him the bird without a second glance and kept walking straight ahead. Once she caught up with Sam, they continued walking around the corner to the car. "You know violence isn't always the answer," Sam joked with clear playful undertones.

"So I should have just ignored that comment?" Kate looked up at him with a smirk, fully aware she'd won.

Sam adjusted his suit coat, knowing that he'd lost. Sure she could have ignored it, but he would never actually blame her or get upset when she defended herself. And a part of him was damn happy to see her do it. "You did good," he praised quietly. Not wanting to turn this into some kind of emotional moment, he quickly pulled her in for a quick side hug as if to say he was proud of her for putting that creep in his freaking place and sorry that it had happened to her. He then opened the door and dropped into the unfamiliar driver's seat. There was a moment of extreme satisfaction in doing so - the occasion being so rare when he got to drive.

Once they were settled in the car, Kate quickly added, "Let's tell Dean that I got hit on by a super attractive guy, okay? It sounds way better." Pretty girls hit on Dean all the time, but she apparently attracted only scumbags - she didn't need that constant reminder.

Now it was Sam's turn to roll his eyes, knowing exactly what she was thinking. "Kate, it's not a competition. Besides, that's only going to piss him off. Do you really want to do that?" Dean had never exactly been…sensible…when it came to guys and his little sister. He tended to go 0 to 60 rather quickly in his reactions, even if she was 21 now.

Kate pretended to think about it for a moment. "Of course I want to make him mad. It's funny." She grinned devilishly.

Sam shook his head with a smile. "Well, don't blame me if he kicks your ass, then. That's on you."

"And why would he kick my ass?! I didn't do anything. I was an innocent bystander who was hit on." She placed a hand on her chest as if being personally offended by his comment.

"Yeah. Okay." As he twisted the key in the ignition, he asked, "Does, uh, does that happen often? You know, a skivvy dude hitting on you?" He was suddenly worried that he hadn't been taking care of her like he should.

Kate assumed he was asking out of pure curiosity, not that his protective side was coming out. "Between your mood killering abilities and Dean's hovering, I never get hit on. Dean still won't let me hustle pool for that very reason. He's dramatic, no?"

Even though he was a little insulted by being called a "mood killer", he agreed. "He's completely dramatic. But I think it has more to do with you not being that great at pool." He grinned, teasing her.

"And you know why? Because you idiots never let me practice. That's very sexist of you."

He tilted his head and grinned back at her, as if daring her to defend her statement. "Sexist? You really think it's sexist for us to not let you blow our hard earned money just so you can practice?" He was still grinning.

"I think it's sexist that only the men earn money in this family." She raised her eyebrows, thinking she'd cornered him.

"Maybe we're being chivalrous." He gave her a side grin daring her to counter that one as he headed down the road into town.

Kate stuck her finger in her mouth and gagged. "Yeah right. This isn't the 60's. It's stupid that I have to depend on you both for cash. Maybe I'll start working the street corner now because clearly I attract the clientele." She looked over at him and bobbed her eyebrows playfully.

Instant Bitch Face Activated. "Not funny."

"I think I'm hilarious," she quipped.

Sam chuckled at her reply and he was once again reminded just how much Dean had rubbed off on her over the years. They drove in silence for a moment as he gathered his thoughts with so much running through his mind. With Dean's crossroad deal coming due in 8 months, he knew how wrecked Kate had been lately (even if she wouldn't talk about it), and this afternoon of levity in their lives brought some relief to all the pain, albeit momentarily. He wasn't ready for that feeling to end, so he came up with his own plan. "If you really have a problem with having to depend on us for money, I'll work with you on your pool game. Then we can both piss off Dean." He said it with a smirk and sparkling eyes that brought back memories of when they'd team up to screw with Dean as kids.

Kate rubbed her hands together mischievously. "Now we're talking."
