The Dead Will Cry
Chapter 4 Dead Attack

"Morrison. You and Sophie stay here and barricade yourselves. I'll deal with our zombies problem and come back for you. Only leave this place if you get overrun." Said Nero before heading out into the streets.
Morrison pulled out a pistol to have on hand, before he and the other people in the tavern began to barricade the door and windows. As they worked Morrison noticed that Sophie had a terrified look on her face and it looked like she was either going faint or try bolting from the tavern, neither of which was going to be helpful in this situation.
"Hey don't you worry about a thing. You are perfectly safe. Nero and another one of my associates are out there and I can assure you they'll deal with the zombies and whatever else is out there. They're pros." Said Morrison giving Sophie a reassuring smile.
This calmed Sophie a little bit, but there was still a bit of fear within her.
Nero strolled outside and quickly took stock of the situation. The locals were running and screaming as what appeared to be zombies roamed the streets. Unlike the zombie that had come into the bar these creatures weren't trying to disguise their decaying appearance. Nero counted about 30 zombies in the immediate area, who were most likely sent to either capture or kill Sophie.
The young hunter had to admit that this move of Curien's was both bold and foolish. Instead of going for something simple and quiet by simply hiring an assassin or just sending in the one disguised zombie, he had decided to send a horde of zombies to do the job and didn't seem to care about civilian casualties or keeping his creations secret. Thus action proved that though Curien was scientifically brilliant, he was also a madman with zero morals or empathy for others.
"Time to clean up." Said Nero to himself as he rushed at the four nearest zombies.
These particular zombies wore tattered clothes and two of them carried hatchets. They tried to rush Nero, but one swing of his sword sliced them in half! Both the zombies' upper bodies and torsos hit the ground. Despite this injury the zombies still tried to attack by crawling towards Nero. Nero simply pulled out his gun and shot the zombies in the head putting them down for good.
"Looks like the headshot rule applies to these guys. Guess the movies were right." Said Nero before moving on.
Nero went about slicing the zombies' heads off with his sword or shooting them in the head. Most of the zombies went down fairly easily without putting up too much of a fight. Nero came across a couple of zombies like the one that had entered tavern that threw daggers at him, but he shot the blades out of the air before shooting the zombies in the chest and head a few times killing them as well. A pair of large shirtless zombies came at Nero next. They appeared to have either been bodybuilder sat some point or Curien gave them steroids at some point. One was armed with a ball and chain and the other had a sledgehammer.
"At least you might give me a challenge." Said Nero.
The zombie with the sledgehammer charged forward swinging his weapon and Nero met it with his sword. There were sparks as the weapons met and Nero could tell that this zombie was a cut above the rest with it's strength and the bit of demonic energy he sensed from it. Nero pushed the zombie back and with a quick slash of his sword he chopped the zombie's arms off! The arms and hammer hit the ground with a thud. The zombie didn't even flinch or scream, but instead charged at Nero intending to headbutt him. Nero just smirked as he decided to meet the headbutt with a headbutt of his own! The heads smashed into each other and there was a loud crack of bones breaking!
For a few seconds nothing happened and then the zombie fell to the ground with his head dented and green liquid oozing from it. The zombie let out a moan as it tried to push itself up, but Nero just finished it off for good with a shot to the head.
The zombie armed with the ball and chain swung his weapon at Nero with a good deal amount of speed, but Nero dodged it and sliced the chain connecting the ball making it fly off and crash into a wall. Nero then shot the zombie's head off with two quick shots from his gun killing the creature.
Soon all the zombies in the area were dead. Nero wondered how Lady was doing and what kind of other horrors Curien had cooked up.
Meanwhile Lady was in another part of town shooting and killing zombies. Lady had originally planned to go help Nero deal with the zombies near the tavern, when another group of the undead had shown up in another area and began to cause havoc. The hunter suspected that this could possibly be a diversion tactic setup by Curien to keep Lady away from his allies and the client, but she couldn't let the zombies attack the civilians. Lady also had faith in both Nero and Morrison and knew they would keep the client safe, while she handled these zombies.
Lady was duel wielding some pistols as she took down one zombie after another. She encountered zombies similar to the ones Nero had fought and was making quick work on them, until she came across a large burly zombie with a beard wearing overalls and armed with a chainsaw.
"This isn't Texas you know." Said Lady as she fired her guns at the zombie.
Unlike the previous zombies, the one armed with a chainsaw actually had the sense to use his big weapon to block the bullets from striking it's head. That surprised Lady a little bit as the zombie charged at her swinging it's chainsaw. Lady dove out of the way as the chainsaw barely missed her. She went into a roll and got to her feet firing her guns as she aimed for the zombie's left arm ripping it off with her shots. The zombie tried to rush at Lady again with only his right arm holding the chainsaw. Lady fired at the zombie, who wasn't able to block the shots this time due to only having one arm. The right arm was shot off followed shortly by the zombie's head. The zombie's body collapsed to the ground dead.
Lady finished off the rest of the zombies in the area before heading back to the tavern to meet up with Nero and Morrison.
Unbeknownst to anyone in the town there was another one of Curien's creatures in the area, who crouched atop the roof of the local church watching everything unfold. The creature was one of Curien's elite creations and went by the code name Hangedman. The Hangedman had clawed fingers and toes, wings and glowing red eyes of a bat. He was humanoid in shape and very intelligent, capable of human speech. The Hangedman was capable of controlling bat zombies called Devilons and he wore pieces of armor over his body.
The Hangedman had been sent out to kill Sophie along with the rest of the zombies, but had taken notice of the two individuals that had wiped the other zombies out. Clearly these were no ordinary humans Sophie had contacted. Curien would like to know about them and the best person who could give him that information was Sophie. The objective had changed from capture to kill.
The Hangedman summoned the dozens of Devilons it had brought along with him as he set his eyes on the tavern.
Lady rejoined Nero and the two of them knocked on the tavern door telling everyone everything was alright and it was ok to come out. Sophie and the others came out looking relived, but as soon as they were out the Devilons swarmed onto the scene creating pure chaos and confusion. Nero and Lady shot at the bat zombies killing several of them, but as they were distracted with that Sophie stumbled a few yards away trying to get away from the tiny terrors, when the Hangedman swooped in and snatched her carrying her into the sky and away from the town.
"Helllpppp!" Screamed Sophie as she was taken away.
The swarm of Devilons dispersed and flew after their leader. Nero, Lady, and Morrison watched the creatures fly away.
"Dammit!" Cursed Lady.
"Come on. Let's go after them. Time we pay this Curien creep a visit." Said Nero.
"I'll come to. You might need a extra gun and set of hands." Said Morrison.
With that said the three of them loaded into a car and took off heading in the direction of Curien's mansion.
