It was the final hour of the school day, and a couple of the students were getting a bit antsy. Anais was no exception. She fiddled nervously with her paws in her final mathematics class. Trigonometry was never her strong suit. However, for her cousin in crime, integration of the reciprocal of trigonometric functions was only the beginning.
Anais looked left, and saw Barry sketching a graph of the function f(x) = cot(x). What a nerd. She coughed loudly to grab his attention, and gestured to a certain Mightyena a few seats away in one of the rows in front of her.
"Psst, oy Barry…!" hissed Anais, making the Blaziken place his pen down. "She's on her phone! Can you see what she's doing?"
Barry squinted at the Mightyena about 2 metres away, but shook his head. "Anais, don't you think we're taking this too far? I mean, this can be considered as stalking, right?"
Pouting sadly, Anais glared back and forth between the Mightyena and Blaziken, who was making a lot of sense right now.
"Ugh, you're right. You're always right you overpowered chicken. I've still got a date with Raidon anyway, so I'm still good, right?" passively hummed the distressed fairy. "Buuut, just as an insurance, make sure you distract her on our way out. That way, it'll buy me more time to go out, find Raidon, and get the heck out of here."
Huffing, Barry nodded his head. At least now, he could continue with his work.
The remaining 15 minutes dragged. Any student in that classroom could tell you, that something wasn't right with the time dynamics during that class. Anais could feel a surge of electric current pacing up and down her veins. It was time to get going, and the Sylveon was as ready as ever to hear that school bell ring.
*BRRRIIIIIIINNG*
The ring was brief, but enough to get Anais on her way. Immediately, she stood up, and so did Barry once he grabbed all his stuff.
"Eyes forward, Solid Ekans!" the Blaziken called, pertaining to the dark type in their sights who was getting away.
"Well go and stall her, Barry!"
"Right, right!"
With haste, the Bursyamo hopped up, advancing toward the door of the classroom in order to catch up to the mighty-fast Mightyena. He weaved through desks, and slid past the slower students. However, Bella's desk was closer to the door to begin with, so no matter what he did, the dark type would always make it out of the classroom before he did. After vaulting one more desk chair, Barry too made it out of the class a little later than his target. However, upon entering the hallway, he found himself in front of a person he knew all too well.
"L-Lola?!" he cried in bewilderment, nearly toppling over the Lopunny, who stood nearly at eye-level with the fire type.
"Sorry, Barry." spoke Lola, folding her arms. "It's just that I've had this feeling in me, that I really want to get off my chest."
Barry looked down, toward her chest, yet quickly recalled where her eyes were. Then, he tilted slightly to the right, peering over Lola's shoulder. The tail of a Mightyena poked out through the crowd, and was swiftly beating a beeline to the entrance of the school.
"Uhhhh…"
"...So can we talk…?"
It was at this moment, Barry was lost in space. A decision had to be made, and the dead serious mask Lola was wearing meant that this was a big decision, at that. Next, the Blaziken had taken a look behind him, and made out his cousin barely scampering out of the prior mathematics classroom, amid the masses.
Aw, golly… Anais? Or Lola? Blood is thicker than water… But then again, tungsten is thicker than blood. Hmmm…
"..."
"..."
"...Well...?"
"S-Sorry, Lola. I just dozed off a little. Of course we can talk."
A delighted smile snuck onto the melancholic Lopunny's lips. Her ears rose skywards, and her posture had transformed from a slump to a confident statue.
"Thank you so much, Barry. Could we go somewhere private?"
The blaze Pokemon scratched his head sheepishly, as if the question was rhetorical. The two of them acknowledged a scowling Sylveon, who was passing by with pace, before Barry had turned back to the female hazel-furred normal type.
"Sure, that sounds like a good idea."
Meanwhile, Anais was in a desperado mission of her own. It was a demolition job, and it had occurred to her that her fellow fiery family member couldn't be relied on at all times.
To the best of her abilities, the deadset Sylveon raced through the hallways, stormed across the playground, and finally ventured out into the expanse of the open street. The pathway was littered with students and a couple parents alike. Despite this, Anais was still able to sniff out Raidon standing by on of the bus stops on the opposite side of the street. However, what she saw wasn't right. Her ears fell dejectedly. Her ribbons dropped lifelessly to the ground. Anais could feel her blood rushing from her head while her mind processed what she saw.
It was torture in it's purest form, and she had come at the best moment to watch it all unfold. Across from Raidon was the one person Anais didn't want anywhere near him: Bella. What put the 20 kilogram stone in her stomach was the look of horror on the Mightyena's maw.
Anais could only just bring herself to slowly cross the road, getting closer and closer to her target Luxray. Bella heard footsteps, and rotated enough to spot her best friend, trudging toward the pavement.
"Wha…?" rasped Bella, curling her eyebrows in hatred. "Y-You… Why didn't you tell me that you were already going out on a date with him?!"
Now as stiff as cement, Anais didn't know what to do or what to say. Her mouth was certainly moving, but nothing seemed to come out, no matter how hard she tried.
"I… I just can't believe you, Ann… You were my friend! You honestly lead me on!" the Mightyena howled, anger flaring from her irises, alongside the tears crawling down her cheeks. "I-I can't believe you!"
Surrounding students, parents and arbitrary pedestrians alike began to turn around to the source of the commotion. Pokemon of different shapes, sizes and types all mumbled and conferred between each other about the situation before them.
"I'm sorry, Bella!" cried Anais in return, taking one step closer to the bawling Bella. "I honestly didn't want to tell you earlier, because it would've crushed you!"
Bella now began bearing her canines, eliciting Anais to take a step back now. "So you decided to make me suffer and wait instead? You're actually an asshole, Ann. I can't believe you."
The insult hit the intertwining Pokemon with such force, Anais could've sworn that there was a presence trying to push her to the ground.
"I-I'm so sorry, Bella… I just didn't know what to do…"
"Well, congrats. You've actually publicly embarrassed me. What is your problem with me?! I actually don't believe it!" Bella had shouted back, her eyes showing no remorse for the frightened fairy.
Raidon, who was in the epicentre of the issue, hadn't any words either; he was at most confused as to why two best friends were brawling over a problem concerning him.
"S-Stop… Bella, I'm not that kind of person - I'm really not! Arceus, this is too muc-"
"It's too much for me, Anais!" interjected Bella, venom spitting from her tone. "How about you get your head out of your ass, and start thinking about someone aside from yourself for once!"
Shaking her head violently, the Mightyena turned around in sombre, giving one last look at the gape-mouthed Luxray that had been in the crossfire of this affair. She then strutted beyond the electric type and through the crowds, vanishing with distance. The only thing she left behind were small unnoticeable tear stains on the surface of the grey cracked pavement. Despite how small they were, Anais could replay in her head, the sight of each drop of salty water from Bella's glimmering eyes - it brought tears to her own.
The crowd gradually dispersed, but almost immediately, the shocking warmth of an embrace hugged her like a large coat. Rough fur carefully brushed past her soaked eyelids, drying her sorrows, and the gentle caress of a paw sleighed down the back of her neck. Anais quivered with despondency, and felt as if the only thing stopping her from falling into a state of depression was the single being holding her within his arms.
"Anais, calm down for me, alright?" soothly sounded the Luxray, stroking the sobbing Sylveon's fur. "What was that all about?"
Sniffling, the troubled teen spent no time in shaking her head uncontrollably.
"Let's j-just go, alright?"
Looking back and forth, Raidon sighed, and figured that now would be a good time to make his move. Slowly, the electric type shuffled his maw closer to face of the fairy type Pokemon. Quaintly, he landed a kiss on right where he wanted it; right on the crying female's forehead. Squinting a little more, Raidon caught onto a forced smile that had found a way out of jail.
"It's all okay, Anais. Listen, I know this really sweet place to sit, and just chill. We'll head there, alright?"
Meekly, the Sylveon nodded her head up and down, before Raidon had gently taken control of one of her paws. Together - one trudged and the other trotted - towards their eventual destination.
Lola and Barry shut the door to a barren classroom. Ghosts occupied the desks in place of students who had left the room in clear pandemonium; many chairs were separated from their respective desks, and hopelessly strewn sideways on the floor. Barry cautiously tiptoed over capsized desks to get to an upright chair worth sitting on. Lola did the same, situating herself on a rugged wooden desk.
"So um… What is it exactly that you wanted to talk about, Lola?" questioned the Blaziken, looking around the room in worry.
The normal type folded her legs and ran a paw through her fur atop her head. "Well… I'm just worried… About us, I mean."
As of right now, Barry could sort of see down the road that they were soon about to take. "Could you uhh… Could you elaborate?"
"So, Barry, it's come to my understanding that, we sorta moved a little bit too fast, right?"
The Blaziken in hearing nodded his head, allowing Lola to continue.
"Okay. I've known all of that since the start. Although, I know we're kind of speedy, but I really, really, REALLY like you, Barry." admitted the Lopunny, wearing an amiable yet off-angled smile. "When we had that discussion about how you felt like you weren't sure how you felt toward me, I was so sure that we were going to break up or something like that. It would've been such a shame, since I was incredibly attached to you, and… I'm in serious love with you, Barry."
Heat filled the room like the world was a boiler room. Lola felt her cheeks get hot and her mind become fuzzy. A visible blush was apparent on Barry's face, also. The taller Blaziken felt 3 foot again. He could barely open his beak to reply.
"I… That really hit home, Lola. C-Could I be honest with you, as well?" asked Barry, to which the opposing party nodded. "Thanks, umm… During the time that we were away from each other, I really had my hands full. I was really stressed out about things, and it helped me to realise that this entire time, I was in need of a girlfriend that I once had. I never felt like I needed someone else in my life to be by my side through it all."
Barry stepped off the desk, and took a couple steps toward the exponentially blushing Lopunny.
"I really want to be your boyfriend, Lola. Being away from you made me understand exactly why I would like to be with you."
For the second time in a day, tears were brought to the eyes of another student. However, in this case, the emotions flooding the area were much different. Lola flew toward Barry like a speeding Latias, tear droplets parachuting from the flight to the floor as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Unfortunately, the force was enough to make him accelerate backwards, landing on his backside ungracefully.
"You've said it all, Barry! That's all I wanted to hear!" cried out Lola, showering the Blaziken's beak with smooches. "I'm so glad we could work this out."
After pulling away from a peck on the keratin, Barry beamed, holding the Lopunny even tighter. "I'm happy as well. Thanks for being so understanding. I had no idea how I was going to bring up this conversation again with you."
"Seriously? Barry, you know, you can just come and tell me."
The fighter had pried his eyes away from Lola's fierce gaze, and pouted a little. "I know, I know; I wasn't sure I was ready yet. I wanted to try talking to Anais or your sister Lorelei, but now that you went ahead with this, I'm not gonna beg for anymore bread. Thanks, Lola."
Lola leaned back, straddling the Blaziken's abdomen with her lean thighs. "It's alright, Barry. You better not have gone to Lori - she's actually no help."
"Ahaha, don't worry. You know, I can't really tell the difference between you two." admitted the shameful Blaziken. "So um… Sorry if I ever get you mixed up with her, for future reference."
Shaking her head from side to side, Lola huffed, but showed off a relieved smile. "You're a bit of a dummy, but you're my dummy, Barry." she scoffed, readjusting her position. After trading grins of delight toward one another, Lola had taken a look left, then a look right, as if driving a car for the first time. "By the way, Barry… No one seems to be around after school hours, and the janitors don't clean the classrooms on this particular day…"
Barry squinted, uncertain as to where this was going. "Umm… How'd you know that about the janitors?"
"Don't worry about that, Barry." seductively purred the bunny, edging her face closer and closer to the Blazikens' beak. "It's just you and me now, so how about we settle down here for a bit, by ourselves?"
Smiling softly was the blaze Pokemon, while he sat up to face his girlfriend's face much better.
"I'd say that's a great idea."
Raidon trudged up across the green blades that covered a well regarded hilly terrain within the area. He kept a taut paw on the previously sobbing Sylveon, who occasionally quivered in melancholy.
"Come on, Anais, I really want you to see this...!" groaned the jet black gleaming teen, who spared no effort in hauling his pink furred friend up the hill.
Anais had mumbled something incomprehensible, yet put a little bit more energy into making her way up the hill, so Raidon would have his work cut out for him.
The two kept going, but the trip was mostly made in silence. They had made a stop against a tree 70% of the way there, but finally got to the peak of the hill. Raidon smirked once they had reached the top; the look on Anais' face was a cast of wonder.
Eyes forward. Anais could see faint clouds gliding over buildings and skyscrapers that looked like tiny Cosmoems from where they stood. Above, of course there was the Sun. In the background, was the massive expanse of blue, blue and more blue. The wavy ocean that was tens of miles away only seemed to be on their doorstep. Light either be it from the primary source or neighbouring stars sparkled on the surface of the lovely waters. It was so breathtaking, Anais had to kick herself to breathe.
"W-What the heck?" stammered the Sylveon to the smug Luxray. "How'd you find a view like this?"
Raidon's smile became even wider. "My pops used to take me here as a youngster. It's pretty nice, isn't it?"
Anais nodded, as she walked over to Raidon to take a seat beside him on the green greens. She had felt the same warmth that she had experienced during the dispute with Bella. Instinctively, she shuffled closer into the Luxray's fur, making Raidon twitch in surprise.
"I think it's great…"
Both parties had smiles on their faces, while they sat to enjoy each other's company. A thought bobbled in the electric type's mind. The urge to enquire increased immensely with time.
"So, Anais… are you feeling any better now?"
The recipient of the question huffed after taking a long breath, and licked at her lips in shame. "Yeah… Thanks for being with me this entire time. I'm sorry you had to see me freak out like that."
Raidon joggled his head no, and gave his friend a comforting smile. "It's alright. Could you explain what happened back there?"
"Is… Is it alright if I tell you later? I just don't want to talk about it right now."
"That's fine with me."
Silence continued for a little bit more, and it was certain that both Anais and Raidon were feeling a bit more heat than the 18 °C air temperature for sure. The latter, smaller female of the duo snuggled further into the Luxray's bushy fur, feeling more of his tensed shoulders.
"Anais?"
"Yes?"
"...I need to ask you something."
"S-Sure, anything."
Raidon took a paw of his own, and used it to wipe his forehead. His breathing began to get a little irregular. "S-So, we've told each other that we both like each other, right?"
Immediately, Anais felt the effects of embarrassment hit her right on the cheeks. "Y-Yeah, I remember that day. W-Why?"
"So, are we dating?"
"N-No…"
Now, Raidon had turned his head such that he was facing the Sylveon dead in her eyes.
"So, why don't we?"
Raidon didn't seem too fazed by the question. At least, nowhere near as Anais was. She was absolutely stunned into oblivion as soon as the inquiry hit her ears. Looking back at the glamourous irises that belonged to the Luxray, Anais realised that he was not joking at all.
"U-Um… I-I… I d-don't know how to answer that, Raidon…"
Gosh… I… Do you think that he's thinking what I'm thinking? He better not get my hopes up.
Wait, just so we're on the same page, are you guys thinking about what took this chapter so long to come out? I definitely am.
W-What? What the heck? No, Giratina - That he wants to date me! Keep up!
O-Oh… My bad.
The contrastingly calm electric type smiled, revealing a canine. "Well… I suppose there is a way to answer that. I'll ask you another question." Now, Raidon had turned around fully, so that his entire body was facing Anais, the blushing fairy. "Anais, do you want to start dating me?"
Lightheadedness. She couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"Oh… Oh Arceus… What a relief! I felt stuck in limbo since… I was too scared to ask you." exclaimed Anais, still feeling the same disbelief. "Of course I'd want to date you! Ugh, I'm so glad you asked…"
Anais had leaned forward slowly, pushing Raidon's back onto the grass. Then, she capitalised on her positional advantage to wrap her arms around the Luxray. On the other hand, Raidon was slightly flabbergasted by the fact that Anais - No, his new girlfriend, had done an absolute 180 from her previous mood. He wasn't about to complain, though. With a growing smirk, he accepted the gift hug with all his heart.
"Hey, since we're dating, and all… Could I give you a kiss?" asked Raidon again. The question struck Anais as unheard of.
"I… I don't see why not. I think it's important you know that I've had boyfriends before… I didn't really get much gusto out of kisses…" admitted Anais, shuffling to get closer to Raidon's face. "G-Go ahead, though."
"Aha, right. Thanks for letting me know. I've never had a girlfriend before, so you know… Don't judge me."
Raidon tended toward Anais' face. Thus, the Sylveon closed her eyes, and tilted her forehead as a target for her newest boyfriend. Although, surprise arose as soon as Anais felt pressure upon her lips instead, making her wide eyed in return.
"O-Oh!" she yipped involuntarily, jumping back a bit. Raidon had lost his breath, as Anais was still lying on his stomach.
Immediately, Raidon burst out laughing, clutching his gut. Anais shriveled up in her own embarrassment, while the Luxray could only yak it up right in front of her face. How very gentleman-ly.
"No way, Anais!" the black maned Luxray cried, gasping between guffaws. "That noise you made was adorable! So much for not getting gusto out of kisses!"
"N-No fair! I wasn't ready!" Anais had argued shyly. Despite her discomfort and redness of her cheeks, she still wore a smile on her face. "Let's see how you'd react to a kiss."
Raidon's laughter was interrupted by something cold and wet on his nose. Going cross-eyed, the Luxray found that it was a raindrop upon the tip of his maw.
"Uhh… Hang on, Anais…" mused Raidon, glancing upwards and realising the state of the sky above them; it was purely grey, like an old television show. "Umm… I think we may need to get moving, before we get drenched."
The teenage Sylveon looked up also, her stomach dropping at the sight of the overcast skies. "W-Wha? Damn, you're right."
It began to shower small sprinkles of rain from above, dampening the duo's fur, but also giving one of them an idea at the same time.
"Hey, let's slide down the hill! It's booming to slide down wet hills, you know." excitedly suggested Raidon, who took no time to jump down the slope with a spring in his step.
Anais stood up, watching her boyfriend glide down the hill with ease on his stomach.
Gosh, Giratina. He honestly lightens up my day. My heart is so full. I'm catching insane feelings right now, even after what happened with Bella.
Damn… I never knew this guy had such grips with your heart already. Don't go having sex on the first date, Anais. It sounds like a good idea, but trust me, it isn't.
Oh, shut up. You know, I kinda feel sorry for Bella, though at the same time, the second I said yes to Raidon, I felt so relieved. I love this feeling so much.
You go girl. Just uh, don't forget who your true friends are.
Heard. Now, gotta go, I'm getting wet.
...W-W-W-W-W-What?
Because of the rain, you schmuck!
Oh. That was my first assumption.
Without much further ado, Anais trotted toward the giant slope, spotting Raidon already at the bottom. She put two of her calves to use by leaping down the steep gradient, indulging in her new boyfriend's activities.
Yeah, it felt great to say that.
Her new boyfriend.
Alright, that concludes our chapter. Forgive me that it took so long to get out; I've got tons of work, so I literally only have a few hours a week to write lol. Don't take that to heart though, because I'll be busting a gut as often as possible to upload a chapter for either That Sylveon or First Catch, so you all have something to read. Also, join the Discord server, if you haven't! There are so many nice people there! For example, the classy artist, XetaJTS, isn't necessarily exclusive to the TU server, but if you don't know him, you're genuinely missing. Furthermore, Dipper - the pearl of this Earth - is dying to meet you.I'd cry if I were you. Buuuuut, you could always DM me for an invite, so you can meet amazing people like XetaJTS, Dipper, Aqua, Blue - The list goes on. Send me a DM if you're interested!

"ACHOO!"

"For goodness' sake, it doesn't even make sense for me to be sick. I was fine yesterday! What the H, immune system!?"
The sickness seemed to be driving Lola crazy. Never had the common cold have the best of a Pokemon before. It felt like she had been stung by a Beedrill on rare candy pills. She had spent the entire school day writhing in throat pain, used tissues and about 3 different blankets. The time was tending toward 4 in the afternoon, and it was around here she'd expect her sister to be arriving from her classes.
Lola was correct, as the front door opened via a set of keys. Lorelei came around the corner in a wild stupor after clanging the door shut.
"Good grief, Lori - did you forget your brush or something?" mocked the younger sister of the two, pointing out the obvious fact that Lori's fur had looked like she had been through a carwash.
"Don't you worry, gal. Just make sure you get well soon, so you can come into school tomorrow, alright? You missed some pretty interesting stuff."
Lola rolled her eyes, and curled up further in her blankets to brace herself for an upcoming sneeze threatening to blow apart her nostrils. Smirking, Lori sorted out her stature, and stretched her hips about, before she trotted off to the kitchen, delighted as ever.
