THAT SYLVEON

Thanks for the support up to now. Hard to believe we've finally hit the 50th chapter. Damn, that's a lot. I'm looking forward to what the future holds.

So, I was sitting on my ass, typing up this chapter as per usual. However, on my fanfiction page, I get a message from a very special person asking to join the discord server. Upon doing so, he showed me a surprise of sorts. Hence, the incredible new covers for the stories you see right now! Isn't that just nuts?! I want to give my sincere thanks to SavageCaliber22 for going above and beyond the call of duty. Thank you so much!

Anyway, keep in mind the disclaimer above, and we'll get rolling.

Yadda yadda yadda.

"So we were scrappin'. Then, I punched him in the face so hard, he was out cold 'n' he fell back in his seat. Y'know what I said?"

Brendan leaned back, folded his arms, and put on the best smirk that you could ever find for miles.

"Take a seat, pal."

Needless to say, the Blaziken got the whole squad laughing. A pair of triumphant Eeveelutions and a guffawing Typhlosion clamoured around the table with the fire and fighting type at the centre of attention. The clang of beer bottles and hysterical laughter soon replaced a night of what had been loss, bloodshed and carnage. Soon they were all reminiscing on the quirkier times of their journey. Brendan waved his arms about, charading the enemies that he had brought down during the adventure.

Julley, who had coddled next to Cassidy, couldn't help but let his eyes draw him back to the garden door. His cup of water clanked on the table, as it was set down hastily. His wife shuffled to the side in the seat they both shared to give him more space.

"Hey, where are you going?" asked the ice type, isolating herself from Brendan and Tyson's conversation. "Tired already?"

"N-No, I just want to see if Cooper's alright." The Umbreon hopped out of the chair, and stretched. "It's been a rough night for him."

Cassidy pouted, lifting one brow to showcase her uncertainty. "Of course, but… Shouldn't we give him time to himself? If he really wanted company, he'd come back in, right?"

The Umbreon's face fell to the floor. "I g-guess so. Still, I just feel bad for him. L-Like, as if he got robbed."

"I know what you mean. Ugh, couldn't you stay for a few more minutes, first?"

There was no way Julley could resist one of those puppy dog faces. "Aha, alright then."

"Great! I wanna do some more cuddling."

"Sure."

It wasn't quite the plan, but Julley hopped back onto the chair at the table. Cassidy purred as she felt the warmth of her lover again. The duo embraced each other, as Brendan and Tyson got into a fierce argument about who was the better battler. Three more five hundreds later, and the duo had moved onto the next topic of who had the better looking wife.

Neither Cassidy nor Julley were very interested in joining the debate; both stared into the vortexes of those who they deemed beautiful. The latter smiled, pecking the cheek of the Glaceon who returned his gaze. However, her smile didn't seem as genuine as his. It was a different kind of smile. Her eyes were half lidded, and her tongue stuck out right at the end of the curve. Glancing at the table, Julley realised how many empty bottles of beer and wine had been consumed during their time down here. Who knows how much Cassidy had contributed to the cause.

"Julley…" she started, peering past the passive Pokemon's pupils and to the moonlight window beside him.

"Mhm?"

"Thank you so much. For Anais and I. I don't know many people who'd go and do what you did. But, you did it anyways. And, you really showed him, too."

Julley felt a paw on his thigh. He picked at the fur on his neck as he tried not to sound too vain.

"Aha, anything to protect my little girl. Oh! And Anais, too."

Bellowing with a chuckle, Cassidy let her paw crawl on the inside of his thigh, inching closer and closer to dangerous waters.

"You're so funny, Julley. But seriously, though. Thank you." she stated, nuzzling noses with the Umbreon to her left.

Julley awkwardly laughed. "A-Anything for you, Cass."

Her ice cold body felt warm on the inside. Just holding onto the inside of his leg had her blushing like a madwoman. Cassidy resumed to stare at her knight in shining armour, who candidly joined the conversation with his peers in Brendan and Tyson. The latter two, she hadn't much interest in. However, every time she met eyes with dark type who had been by her side for sixteen years and counting, the same prickly sensation between her legs would commemorate that time before their first high school prom together. A memory she refuses to forget. Although the only source of light was the Typhlosion's gently embering shoulders and the blades of moonlight cutting through the windows, Cassidy didn't need illumination to see the precious gem that gently writhed under her thumb. Scrunching her paws, she fondled a chunk of Julley's leg fur, appreciating every inch of her husband. Of course, it'd always be met with the Umbreon's typical 'What are you doing, Cassidy?' face. Smiling, she appreciated the sole thing she'd never trade for the world.

Yet. The Pokemon she chose to dedicate her life to, didn't return the same.

His glare extended beyond the walls of the kitchen. The ruby spheres had lost a bit of their colour. It was as if the dark type had seen a ghost. Cassidy bit her tongue a little. The Umbreon was a witness of something that had seemingly changed the way he acted. The answer had to lie back in that dreadful city full of death, destruction, depression and dread.

Click. The rejoicing voices stopped as the kitchen light came on, and silence took over the social throne.

Tap. Tap. Tap. Astronomically inaudible oinks accompanied the frightened footsteps forwarded from the foyer. Tap. Tap. Tap. Emerging through the creaky kitchen door, a frazzled Lucario crept out with only her fists that bled with azure aura. Tap. Tap. Tap.

"...Who the fuck is in there?!" she whisper shouted, brandishing her tough knuckles as weapons ahead of her while she jumped into view. "Uh? Oh! You guys are back!"

The group shared a laugh in celebration, and welcomed Jasmine to her own table.

"Yep yep! 'N' we got Anais back safe and sound, too." boasted Brendan, puffing out his chest, bloodied shirt and waistcoat. "She's upstairs in Barry's room."

Gasping, the Lucario gave her congratulations by embracing her brother and his wife in a grand hug.

"Wow, not to be rude, but I didn't expect you guys to be so happy… What with all the blood on you guys and all." joshed the fighting and steel type Pokemon. "But I'm sooo glad you all got back safe."

Julley squirmed in his step-sister's grasp, although Cassidy seemed to be really enjoying every second of it.

"Hyuck! Y-Y-Yeah, we're glad too. Please don't choke me though, Jasmine."

"Sure, 'course bro. Good to see a smile on you again though, Cassie."

Cassidy showed off a toothy smile to accompany her response. "Thanks so much, Jasmine!"

The Lucario then moved on to curtain her arms over Tyson's shoulders, giving him a tender hug from behind as Brendan watched in subtle envy. She shared a laugh with her close fire type friend, before letting go and sitting on the opposite end of the table to the Eeveelution couple.

"Hey, aren't you forgetting a hug for a special someone?" impassively commented the Blaziken, letting his shoulders drop lifelessly. "I even took you out for dinner earlier as well…"

Rolling her peepers, albeit smirking, Jasmine pulled her husband in for a brief kiss on his cheek. As long as it kept that blaze Pokemon happy. Pushing away, she helped herself to a midnight beer on the table, while taking a fierce look at the people around her.

"Ummm… Are we missing someone? Where's Cooper?"

The room was shut down. Wary orbs darted from left to right, visually pressuring one another to be the bearer of bad news. Eventually, they landed on Julley, who was more interested in enjoying that fresh cup of water.

"He's outside… In the garden. Uh… It didn't turn out as well, f-for Cooper and Zoey." coughed the cumbersome quadrupedal, crossing his legs awkwardly. "Zoey got hurt, really badly… We had to leave her b-because the police were coming, a-and… and…"

The Umbreon sort of trailed off, losing his train of thought in Jasmine's expression of anguish. He dropped his head to the floor, knowing what was to come next as the Lucario pressed her paws against the table.

"What do you mean, hurt!?"

A cough emanated from Tyson. Eyes fell on the gesture made with his digits. He stuck out his index finger away from the others, which were tucked in a fist. His thumb stood perpendicular to the remaining fingers flexing every half second. Jasmine's blue and cream fur seemed to lose it's colouring upon recognising the gesticulation.

"WHAT!" she screamed, standing up and palming the table below her. Julley felt like his soul abandoned his body for refuge. Immediately, she looked at the safest person to violently exude her umbrage on. Poor Brendan was the one whose bloodstained collar was grabbed in the process. "How could you leave her with gunshot wounds, Brendan! That's Zoey you left behind, not just anyone, ya fuckin' goofball!"

Cassidy sunk in her seat, attempting to disassociate herself from the scuffle as much as she could.

The Blaziken, bravely mind you, clasped a talon around the wrist of the paw that bound him. "Jasmine, calm down! None of us here know first aid; she would've bled out in the car!"

"So you leave her for dead in the middle of nowhere? Are you serious?" berated the smaller, yet just (if not more) deadly Pokemon, stuffing out her chest. Brendan strived not to look down. "No one to help her, just dead on the street!?"

"Don't say it like that… That's not what we did…"

The Blaziken clearly seemed to be losing the conflict, mostly because he was more so at a loss for words.

"Sure seems so! I just don't see how you can you just leave

"No, t-that's not what happened."

Four pairs of oculars descended on Tyson, who had decided to speak up as Brendan's attorney. Instant regret hit him the second the firefly Lucario had turned her head to glare lasers through his forehead. He had already made his move, so it'd make sense only to go forward with it.

"Umm… As in… Abby, that crazy girl from highschool. She's the one that took care of whatever that Flygon's name was after Zoey got hit. When we heard the police were on their way, she's the one who told us to shoot, 'n' leave Zoey behind. There must've been paramedics the second they saw her." explained the Typhlosion, avoiding any and all visual contact in the meantime.

Silenced, the Lucario fell back in her seat, awestruck that so much can happen in one night.

"Good Arceus above." she whispered, holding onto her forehead. "She better turn out okay, or so help me… Fuck, I think I need a fag. This is a lot to swallow."

Cassidy sent a silent nudge to the Umbreon that fidgeted about with his digits, obviously wanting to be anywhere else right now. Julley turned around, and recognised the direction of Cassidy's line of sight. Nodding during a cough, he leaned forward a bit, and waved at a slightly uncomfortable Blaziken.

"Hey, um… Brendan? Would it be alright if Cassidy and I stayed the night in your guest room?" politely asked the Umbreon. One look at the Glaceon beside her, and there was no way in the hall of origin that Brendan could say no.

"Oh, sure." responded the fire and fighting type. He glanced at his wife, and cringed a little bit. "Umm, you know what? Why don't I show you guys to the room?"

Brendan was already up and out his chair. Julley and Cassidy bid their comrades a goodbye for the night. The day had dragged on for what felt like a hundred years, and both of the Eeveelutions were eager to put an end to it. They followed the Blaziken out of the kitchen and up the stairs, staying close in contact with each other as they did so.

...

He no longer felt whole.

With a blanket draping over his shoulders, Raidon watched in disbelief as his precious, regal and graceful mother was bound around her arms with chains, forced against the bonnet of the car he had arrived in like a rabid wild animal. Two police officers - a Metagross and a Doduo - stood triumphantly around her, indulging in coffees and cappuccinos to celebrate a job well done. Rain pelted the top of his head, yet at this point in time, his mind didn't bother acknowledging it.

With his back to the landmarked warehouse, Raidon shifted his vision from his bloodstained parent to the unknown Zoroark (who was equally as decorated) balanced on a stretcher. Several Pokemon paramedics rushed the dark type into the rear end of an ambulance. Raidon couldn't hear anything else aside from miscellaneous chatter and the ear-piercing wails of sirens. He had quickly become numb to the sensation, however.

Another set of paramedics rushed to another ambulance. This time, carrying a Flygon. Raidon couldn't bring himself to look at the horror for any longer, though. Four seconds was all he needed to capture the image beforehand, yet this time, two was enough. The knife that was lodged in his frontal lobe stuck upwards like a prideful flag. What was there to be proud about, though?

He swallowed the feeling of dread that clogged his throat, and approached the pair of officers that he arrived at the scene with. His blanket waved in the wind, begging him to just go with the flow and let the air currents take him wherever they wanted. The Luxray remained adamant, nonetheless.

"Hey kid, c'mere for a second." said one of the Doduo heads, who had noticed him wavering in between the various cruisers and officers alike.

Raidon had heard the familiar voice despite the ringing betwixt his ears. He brought his attention to the flying and normal type, who shadowed the Sergeant Metagross. He reached the vehicle, who had three Pokemon surrounding it. One of them, he refused to make eye contact with. He could feel the pressure of the dark type staring right through his head.

"You alright, kid?" asked Sergeant Mothim. The Luxray looked at the flooded concrete below his feet, and fiddled with his digits. "So uh, anyways, you mean to tell me this is your mom?"

Just once, the electric type lifted his head. His line of sight wandered to the white and red stained quadrupedal, and upon noticing her midnight blue irises, tears emerged from the glimmering spheres that gave his species its most prominent characteristic. In what was years since he last bawled, Raidon broke down, sobbing like a child denied of it's plaything.

Abby glared at her son, the closest thing that she had to her in this entire waste of a life. The sole connection to this Earth that held her down as prison weights could barely hold his breath. His body convulsed in sudden motions. The Luxray held his face in the flowing streams below, as water fell from his optics down to his chin.

"Umm… We'll give you two five minutes." Sergeant Mothim offered, escorting his two-headed colleague a few metres away, but still under visual supervision of the bumbling mess and his mother.

The Absol dipped her head slowly to acknowledge the considerate gesture, before awkwardly nearing her destroyed son, still donning the draining and deteriorating shackles. There was physical pain all over her body. Her muscles ached from the hike she had taken across West Latias. Her strained eyes begged for a few more hours of rest. Pounding thuds drummed from the inside of her mind due to the constant trepidation that motivated her the last few hours. Yet, none of these trials could meet up to the emotional agony of seeing her own son bawl before her feet.

Snivelling a little herself, Abby cleared her throat loudly. "'Hem. Raidon. Look at me."

The electric type showed no signs of stopping. The crying child was always - and always will be - a phenomena to the mother of one and one only. She spoke a little bit louder to forcefully grab his attention.

"Raidon! I said look at me!" she shouted, nearly sounding as if she was scolding the Luxray. Immediately, she regretted using that tone of voice. However, it was enough to make Raidon look up. To say the least, it was a mess that she wished she didn't see.

Empathy overwhelmed the Absol. She gnawed on her tongue to force her emotions away, though, and kneeled down to better glare at her son.

"Listen to me. There will be a time and place to explain what happened. What this turned out to be… Was a favour. No, it was not a favour. This was my vindication." Abby coldly described, peering down to the vest that tightened her chest. "I'm… I am sorry, Raidon."

Brushing his tears away, the Luxray found a way to make his mouth say what his mind had played in his thoughts. "But… I just d-don't understand… W-Why did you kill that man? Was it really you? I-I know you wouldn't do something like this, Mom!"

The mother chose to ignore her son's pleas of questioning and investigation. She closed her starry irises and shook her head. A sparkling glint crept from the corner of her eyes. "Raidon. I'm sorry that I had shielded you from the outside world. I'm sorry that I had stowed away, so many secrets that you deserved to know. I'm sorry that I failed you as a mother, Raidon."

Abby forcefully pulled her son in for a tearful embrace at the expense of having a son with a motherless future. She could hear the quiet wails of inconceivable denial pulsate from the electric type in her grasp. Blinking twice, and a tear fell down her own cheek in turn.

Mumbling from her fur, Raidon stammered and sputtered while trying to appease his overwhelming emotions. "Mom? What will I do? I-I can't live alone, can I? Is the government going to take me somewhere else? Do I have to move to live with Dad? Oh, crud, Mom, what am I gonna do!"

The Absol had raised her head. That was a step she hadn't even given proper thought. Her orbs landed on the Zoroark who was carefully hoisted into the ambulance.

"I'd never let you live with your father. Not unless it's over my dead corpse. There was only one woman who'd I'd trust to take care of you, just as she did of me." semi-scolded Abby, beginning to shiver from the wet conditions on the pier. "There she lies on her deathbed, but only to slumber for the time being, as long as Arceus sojourns with you." Abby blinked again, but this time, nothing left her eyelids. Her gaze fixed on Raidon's puffy and contrastingly glowing globes. "Raidon. The Zoroark you saw, named Zoey. She has a husband whom I am certain will take care of you."

Wiping his tears away with his drenched limbs, the Luxray got a better look at his mother. He knew it may be his last. "O-Okay… Where do they live, though?"

"Somewhere in the Southern districts of West Latias city. ." replied Abby, noticing the two police officers begin to wrap up their conversation. "Raidon. You have a lot of secrets concerning my past that you deserve to know. There's so much I wish I could've told you, but for now, just know that all of my recollections will provide you with the truth a son deserves from his mother."

The electric type seemed to be beyond confused, as well as grieving, hurt and trepid. "W-W-What? What do you mean?"

The police officers had begun making their way back to their mother-son pair. Desperately, Abby held her two cuffed hands out, beckoning for Raidon to place his paw in them.

In doing so, Abby grasped a hold of her son's wrist with one hand, and with the other, exhibited a staggeringly sharp claw, pressed into the Luxray's forearm fur.

Raidon winced, as his own mother harshly - albeit carefully - ripped into his skin, precisely marking a set of four characters across his lower arm. He hadn't any reason to question the elder Absol's motives. Blood seeped from the wounds. The teenager knew the rain would wash the pain away. Releasing a tear, he was relieved to have his mother release him.

"There." Abby stated, brushing over the cuts with a conversely gentler paw. She glared at her son directly in his pearly aquamarines. "Please, Raidon. Don't forget. I only want you to see me again when you've learned who I am."

It was difficult to make out in the damp dusk of night. However, Raidon put his reddening forearm closer to his face. "Five, five, two, five… What? What's this even for?"

"It's a passcode. Whatever you do, don't forget it. It will give you- What? Release me, filthy pig! This is my son I'm talking to!"

The Absol was lifted into air via telekinesis. The Metagross and Doduo officers of the law had finally intervened. Slowly, Abby began to levitate into the open orifice of the nearby police cruiser.

"W-Wait! Can't you give us just a few more minutes?" Raidon pleaded, but as per usual, it fell on deaf ears. Officer Vade shook his head, as his sergeant hoisted the Absol into the car.

"Sorry, kid. We're just doing what we're paid to do." he said, raising a talon to loudly shut the door. "It's a shame it has to be this way, we know. But, you did a good job in findin' this out for us. Maybe you should be a detective some day."

As the two police officers claimed their seats, Abby crept to the window. Her two bound clawed paws grazed against the wet, transparent surface. An image of her son through the glass, wearing a disbelieved expression. He knew what was spelled out for the rest of his life, and so did the Absol.

"It's at the… That dead chicken's household." dictated the mother through the solid medium, muffled of course. "beneath…"

"Hey! What're ya talkin' about, lady?! You have the right to remain silent, you know!"

Scowling at the Pokemon that had conducted the arrest in the first place, Abby tried to think quickly. The car roared into action, raring to get moving.

"Search beneath the green, at the house of the dead chicken. You will find it. I love you, Raidon."

Raidon was confused. Confused and broken. Amid his perplexity, tears resumed to flurry down his furry facial features. The window to the passenger seat rolled down. Officer Vade, Dave and Sergeant Mothim sadly witnessed the tragedy that worked to the benefit of their own, but not the now ruined family.

"Hey, kid. Make you sure you take care, okay? One of the other police officers will take you home." told the Metagross. His tone was optimistic, despite the circumstances. "You're a hero in our eyes, kid."

The window went back up. Raidon stood back as the car gently turned around. His eyes never left the Absol in the back, whom he was sure he'd never see with such remorse on her profile. Salty water welled in his eyes, while he fell back on his rear. Water pulsed around him, plopping into the flooded cement beneath him. The strength to wave his mother a final goodbye was nowhere to be found. The vehicle took off down the road. Red lights fading away in the fog of despair and regret.

He began to feel lightheaded. The day he'd leave his mother was always, and was always supposed to be, purely out of the question. Yet, here he was, watching the very Pokemon that nurtured his growth from day one become labelled as a convicted felon.

His right side felt a disturbance. Sifting through his fur, he brought out his phone, who greeted him with a notification. A message from the very reason he was in this Arceus-forbidden city in the first place.

**
'This is Anais. Hey, sorry we didn't get to meet, Raidon. I got caught up with things with my family. Just texting from Barrys phone since I'm staying the night there. won't be at school for a few days but I promise I'll see you soon x'
**

Efforts all for naught. Efforts all for zilch. Efforts all to his detriment. Releasing a yowl of frustration and loss into the air, his phone screen switched off, and the Luxray doubled over in front of an approaching Girafarig decorated in typical police wear. The normal type knelt before the bawling electric type, placing a hoof kindly on Raidon's shoulder.

"Come on, kiddo. Let's get you home, safe and sound."

Yes, I'm aware it's a little bit shorter than expected. I do apologise lol. Here's to hoping that you guys ended up enjoying the chapter. Leave a review if you'd like to further show me how you felt!
