Chapter Four

In the Grand Temple Nanoha and Fate are practicing both magic and fighting. This practice has been an everyday routine for the pair since Fate and Alicia arrived a week ago. "You know Nanoha you are getting better with your fighting style. Plus your magic has gotten stronger too."

"Thanks, Fate, it's been great having someone to go all out with me. Arisa can get way too aggressive at times, and Suzuka is too soft for the fighting that I want." Nanoha says during a break in their training.

"Yes, Alicia is in training heaven right now with both of them. She loves the mix of hard and light fighting. And Rynith is having fun playing with Arisa and getting her frustrations out."

Laughing, "I'm glad, I'm not the only one to see the chemistry between Suzuka and Arisa," Nanoha says.

Fate laughs, "No, you are not the only one to see it."

Nanoha's heart started to beat faster with the sound of Fate's laughter. To distract herself from this she asks Fate. "Magic next?"

"Sounds good." Fate smiled.

The telepathic message from Yuuno pierces the concentration of the warriors mid-practice, urgent and clear. "A group is attempting to breach the city's barrier," His voice resonates within their minds. Without hesitation, Fate and Nanoha exchange a glance that speaks volumes—their training forgotten in the face of potential danger.

"Let's go," Fate says, her voice taut with anticipation. Nanoha nods, her grip tightening around her sword as she falls into step beside her.

The other three join them on their way to the barrier. Dashing through the streets of the ancient city, their boots kicking up clouds of dust in their wake. The city's barrier looms ahead—a shimmering wall that separates safety from the unknown. As they approach, they can see silhouettes against the translucent magic—a small group pushing through with determination.

"Prepare for combat," Alicia commands, "Weapons at the ready."

But as they draw closer, recognition dawns on their faces. The figure trying to get through the barrier is none other than—the sixth hero summoned by Khala but lost to them since their arrival in Dhara.

"She made it," Nanoha calls out, relief washing over her like a wave.

"Yes, but who's behind her?" Alicia asked.

The barrier flickers and wanes under the influence of a book clutched tightly in the girl's hand—a tome pulsing with white magic.

As the sixth hero steps through the barrier, followed closely by four people and a large wolf, she says, "This is not the welcome I was expecting when we met up again," The girl says.

The five individuals behind the sixth hero radiated power and loyalty. A swordswoman with long pink hair with a sword in hand; A woman with shoulder-length blond hair and glowing rings on her hands; A short girl with red hair in braids carrying a hammer is poised for battle; The only animal amongst the small group is a blue and white wolf; and a tall slender woman with long white hair and burgundy eyes bringing up the rear, observing everything with keen Elven eyes.

Fate lowers Bardiche, a sense of caution still keeping him at the ready.

"We thought we lost you," Nanoha says as she moves forward to greet the sixth hero. Stopping short when the shorter girl with pigtails growls at the approach. Laughing nervously, "My name is Nanoha and my friends from Earth are Arisa and Suzuka. From Mid Childa are Fate and Alicia and the ferret is Yuuno, he's the one who call us here."

Hayate smiles warmly at her fellow heroes. "Nice to finally meet you all, my name is Hayate from Earth and the group behind me is Signum, Shamal, Vita, Zafira and Reinforce all from Dhara. We've been through a lot to get this far."

Arisa moves to step forward to greet Hayate but stops short upon noticing the intensity of Signum's gaze and Vita's barely restrained energy. The newcomers' readiness to defend Hayate speaks volumes about their bond.

"What happened?" Alicia asks, intrigued by the presence of these new warriors.

Hayate looks back at her Knights before answering. "We've been fighting our way here since I found them—or rather since they found me."

"And now we stand with Master Hayate," Signum declares proudly.

Nanoha watches this exchange with curiosity.

"Let's get you all settled," Fate suggests. "We have much to discuss."

"Let me patch this hole in the barrier before we head out," Yuuno says. Green magic fills in the hole and then turns white.

Their footsteps echo through the silent streets, a solemn march that acknowledges the gravity of their task. As they walk, Yuuno briefs Hayate and her companions on the current situation, filling in gaps and answering questions with patient precision. One of the questions that came up was about the barrier. "Shortly after Alicia and Fate arrived, I had to erect a barrier as armies of monsters were getting too close to finding this city."

The group gathered in the living room of the house that Nanoha and her friends picked.

Chairs quickly fill with heroes and knights alike. Nanoha takes a seat next to Fate, while Alicia settles across from them. Arisa and Suzuka find places next to each other, exchanging glances.

Hayate introduces her knights formally now, recounting briefly how they came into her service. She tells of their journey here—of battles fought and trials overcome. Her voice carries a mix of pride and humility; these are not just allies but family.

Hayate said, "I grew up in Uminari City, Japan and I would visit the city Library as a child, always fantasizing about a world that was full of heroes and monsters. I just never realized that world was real."

Suzuka stood up and walked over to Hayate and looked down at her. Realization dawned on her about the person who was sitting in front of her. "Hayate Yagami?"

"So it is you Suzuka, Suzuka Tsukimura. When I saw you when the goddess called us, you looked faintly familiar to me. But I wasn't sure if it was you or not." Hayate said.

The two of them found themselves talking fondly about their shared past in Uminari City, reminiscing on the days when they were young children.

Hayate leaned back in the chair, shaking her head in disbelief. She couldn't believe so much time had passed since those carefree childhood days. It seemed like only yesterday that she and Suzuka were huddled together in the library's corner table and chair, completely immersed in magical stories.

Yet here they were, all these years later, reunited by chance in a fantastic new world. Hayate marveled at how life could change so much while some bonds endured.

"I'm glad to see you're not in a wheelchair anymore," Suzuka said, her voice filled with warmth.

Hayate smiled, her heart swelling with gratitude. "Thank you. It's been a long journey, but I've come a long way since then."

After a pause, "I missed you, Suzuka," Hayate said, her voice soft. Needing to finally know why she had been abandoned by her first friend. "I never knew why you stopped coming to the library."

Suzuka smiled, her eyes glistening with tears. "I missed you too, Hayate," Suzuka revealed that she had stopped coming to the library because she had to stay with her family out of town. Hayate listened, her heart aching for her old friend.

On the other side of the room, Arisa and Reinforce looked on at their secret loves. Both of them felt for the first time an evil mistress called jealousy.

Reinforce is still trying to rain in her feelings for her Master, and Arisa has not come to terms with the feelings she has for Suzuka, and now they see them rekindling their friendship. Jealousy is a hard pill to swallow.

The next day while everyone was getting ready for practice at the Grand Temple, "Nanoha, I received a message from the goddess Khala that there are weapons that will be suitable for the three of you here in the city. You, Suzuka, and Arisa are the only ones that don't have magical weapons." Yuuno says.

"So, you're saying our swords aren't good enough?" Nanoha asks.

"No, you need something that's going to be more powerful than those swords," Yuuno said.

"Okay, Yuuno," Nanoha says.

Nanoha walked over to Suzuka and Arisa and told them what Yuuno had said. The three decided to split up and went out into the city. Each one hoping to find what the goddess wants them to have for weapons.

Yuuno went over to talk with Hayate and her Knights, "Greetings, Hayate. As you are aware, I called you here because the goddess made me aware you had all been separated during the transport. The reasons for the separation are unclear, but it occurred nonetheless."

Hayate greeted him with a tender smile. "Pleasure to meet you, Yuuno. Had the separation not taken place, I might never have encountered my new friends. It turned out to be a fortunate twist of fate."

Yuuno surveyed the new arrivals, the aura of strength they projected was unmistakable, and Yuuno was certain they would prove to be essential allies in the forthcoming battles.

Yuuno says, "Greetings, as you may be aware, our purpose here is to train and steel ourselves for the coming battles. My job is to help the heroes become better warriors and fighters than they currently are. And if the hero doesn't know anything about magic it is my job to teach them all I can."

Continuing he says, "I would like to evaluate where everybody is on both fighting stance and magical capabilities." Yuuno has the Knights and Hayate go through the paces to see where they need help the most, if at all.

"Hey Alicia, I'm going to look around the city for a bit," Fate says to her sister.

"That's fine, I want to see how they fight," Alicia replies.

Nanoha wandered through the city, her eyes scanning the buildings and streets for any sign of the weapon that Yuuno had mentioned. She had been searching for hours, but so far, she had come up empty-handed.

Just when she was about to give up, she saw a small, garnet-like stone lying on the ground in some grass-like plant. She picked it up and examined it closely. It was smooth and warm to the touch.

The stone began to beat like a heart. Nanoha gasped in surprise and dropped it, but it floated back up into her hand.

"Hello," A female voice said. "I am Raising Heart."

Nanoha stared at the stone in disbelief. "You can talk?"

"Yes," Raising Heart said. "I am a sentient weapon. I can help you."

Nanoha was stunned. She had never heard of a sentient weapon before. "How can you help me?" She asked.

"I can teach you how to use your magic to its fullest," Raising Heart said. "You have great potential. But you need to learn how to control it."

Nanoha nodded. "I would be honored to learn from you," She said. "My name is Nanoha, it is nice to meet you, Raising Heart."

"To be able to use me you must say the incantation."

Together, they began reciting an incantation, magical circles spiraling around them as they synced.

"Winds in the Sky. Stars in the Heavens.

An unvanquishable spirit in my heart."

The beating of a heart gets stronger in the palms of her hands.

"Grant your magic unto my hands!

Raising Heart, Set Up!"

Nanoha marveled at the sensation, feeling more powerful than ever before.

Raising Heart says, "Stand by, ready, Setup... Welcome new user."

"It is nice to meet you," Nanoha says.

"Your magic level qualifies you to use me. May I select the optimum configuration for the barrier Jacket and the Device?"

"Um, for now, yes. That should be fine."

"All right." Raising Heart says, "Stand by, Ready! Barrier Jacket setup." Nanoha felt a protective field coat over her clothes and in her hand was a staff of white, pink, and gold with a garnet orb at the top.

"How much do you know about magic?" Raising Heart asked her new master.

"Not much, just what Yuuno has shown me so far," Nanoha replied. Nanoha expanded the training she has been doing so far.

"Then I shall teach you everything. Please do as I say. The following are spells you can use just by saying them. In time you will not need to verbalize your spells. Until then let's continue."

"Say Flier Fin, to fly."

"And say Protection, for a Shield. You can protect a large group with your power level."

"Now for the bigger spells you will need to focus your power. That's right. Focus your internal spiritual heat through your arms." Raising Heart shows Nanoha what she is talking about in her mind.

"Imagine you're about to shoot a bullet of power." Raising Heart instructs Nanoha, "Hold out your strongest hand, and to Shoot the Bullet, say Shoot."

"Shoot," Nanoha says and a pink ball the size of a golf ball fires from her hand, destroying the wall in front of her. "Wow."

"To go to the next level from that I will need to go to Cannon Mode, so say it, My Master."

"Cannon Mode," Nanoha says.

"Mode change. Cannon Mode." Raising Heart says. "In this Mode, I can be shot as Divine Buster or Starlight Breaker."

Nanoha tried the spells and was very proficient at them. "Your magical powers are impressive." Raising Heart says.

They continue training and getting to learn what the other could do. Nanoha learns very quickly and loves the new training from her magical staff.

Fate wandered around, trusting her instincts to guide her. She turned down an empty street and spotted a soft golden glow spilling from a ruined building. As she drew closer, the glow brightened, as if recognizing her presence.

Stepping inside, Fate saw the glow emanating from a small triangular gem resting on an old desk. It was the same golden yellow as her magic. Fate reached out and as soon as her fingers brushed the gem, it flashed brightly. A wave of energy rushed over her, and she heard a male voice in her mind.

*Greetings Sir. Touch me to your weapon.*

Fate touched the golden-colored triangular gem to her polearm staff, and it was absorbed becoming an ax in its transformation.

*Sir, I will be your new weapon from this day forward. Call on me at any time, Sir.*

"Hello Bardiche," She said. "I'm glad I found you."

"Sir, you no longer need to verbalize your spells," Bardiche informed Fate out loud. "Simply think of them, and I shall execute your commands."

Fate marveled at the newfound power at her fingertips. With Bardiche's enhanced capabilities, she felt more confident than ever in her ability to face the challenges ahead. Over the next hour, the two practiced to become synced properly.

Arisa, determined to find her device, ventured deeper into the city. Climbing over a pile of rubble, she came across what appeared to be an octagon-shaped jewel. The moment Arisa touched it, she felt the power of fire surging through her veins. The jewel transformed into a saber, and Arisa's eyes widened with excitement.

"Alright," She said, gripping the hilt tightly. "Now, I can protect Suzuka."

Making her way back to the house she spotted Suzuka sitting atop a fountain wall, gazing out at the sunset. Arisa admired her graceful silhouette against the sky's vibrant hues. She wished she could work up the courage to confess her deeper feelings, but the risk of losing Suzuka's friendship held her back.

With a soft sigh, Arisa turned away, leaving Suzuka to enjoy the sunset alone. She hoped that someday, they might be able to share such a moment.

Suzuka wandered the city for hours, but she still hadn't found her weapon. She was starting to get discouraged. Suzuka found herself drawn to an ancient fountain as the sunset. She sat on its edge, watching the sky turn brilliant shades of color. Wistfully, she wished that Arisa was there to share the beautiful sight with her.

As Suzuka gazed at the sunset, she suddenly felt a strange pull coming from beneath the fountain. Curious, she peered over her shoulder, trying to discern the source of the sensation. The ground beneath her began to tremble, and without warning, it crumbled away. Suzuka cried out in fear as she plunged into darkness, helpless and uncertain of what awaited her below.

"HELP!" Suzuka screamed out just before the liquid darkness covered her.
