Chapter Six

The explosion sent shock-waves through the air making the city tremble in its wake. Buildings crumbled around them and screams filled the smoky haze as the army of monsters stormed in. Chaos came from both below and up in the sky as two humanoid figures were raining down attack after attack at anything that moved.

"Signum, watch out!" Shamal yelled, her heart pounding as she saw a Goblin swing its rusty blade at her. Signum dodged the blade by a hair's breadth, its wicked grin reflecting in her eyes before she dispatched it swiftly with a flick of her sword. Signums pink hair whipped around her face, turning to face a hulking Orc charging her way.

Swinging her hammer from side to side Vita called out, "I destroy my enemies!" The brutality of her hits decimate her enemies. "Rocket engine!" Vita swung her hammer around in a circle when an engine and its propulsion was added to the back of her hammer she was swinging to gain momentum and finally leaped into the air and narrowly missed killing one of the humanoids in the air. Although she did bring it down to the ground, the monsters surrounded and protected the humanoid from her next strike.

"Save some fun for me," Alicia said. Burgundy eyes in concentration as she knocked her next arrow to take flight. Beside her, Suzuka murmured incantations under her breath. her hands covered in her device weaving patterns in the air. Their combined attacks took out every target.

"Fate, here they come!" Nanoha said. Gripping her mage staff tightly as a group of Orcs charged them, their faces twisted with rage, they swung their weapons wildly, hungry for blood. "Shoot!" Several pink balls of light shot through the air at the oncoming Orcs.

"We've got this," Fate said, determination etched on every line for face. She readied her device, it's newly upgraded form humming with power. *Scythe Form!* Fate thinks.

"Yes, Sir," Bardiche replies.

In the back of Fate's mind she can't help but think how far they've all come since arriving in this new world, how much they had grown as a team in just a short few days since Hayate and her group arrived even.

Bardiche reading Fate's mind readies a multi-shot attack, Plasma Lancer, multiple electric spheres surrounded by Mid Childan loops that power and give speed, and then shoots its projectiles that are in the shapes of arrowheads.

"Flyer Fin" Nanoha says, small wings sprouting from her ankles as she jumps into the air flying up to get a better view of the battlefield. "Cannon Mode!"

"Yes, My Master, Canon Mode!" Raising Heart says. Changing into a spear at the end of the mage staff.

"Divine Shooter!" Nanoha shouts. A blast of pink light fires off the spear head blasting through their ranks splitting the battlefield in half.

*Plasma Lancer!* Fate thinks, and the spell struck true, hurling several Orcs backwards. Fate flies up to Nanoha and the two of them are back to back firing off into the army of monsters.

Hayate watched as her Knights fought valiantly, each one showcasing their unique strengths and abilities. Her eyes narrowed in fierce determination as one of the humanoids suddenly dive-bombed Reinforce, its spell aimed to cause grave damage. With quick reflexes, Hayate summoned a shimmering shield, blocking the strike just in time.

"Rücke Kette!" Reinforce retaliated, her eyes blazing with intensity. The chain-like spell lashed out at the Number, sending her crashing to the ground. Hayate gazed at her Knights, feeling a surge of gratitude and pride for their unwavering resolve. "I will not lose anyone else ever again," She whispered to herself, vowing to protect them as best as she could.

A small black flame is ignited with Hayate's words.

Arisa found herself cornered by a group of Goblins, their malicious grins promising a cruel fate. But she refused to give in, channeling her fiery spirit into her saber. With a powerful swing, she unleashed a wall of flames that swept the Goblins away, scorching the earth beneath them.

"Fireball!" Arisa shouted, spotting an Orc sneaking up behind Suzuka. The flaming orb hurtled towards the creature, reducing it to ashes in an instant. Suzuka looked over at Arisa, her eyes filled with gratitude and admiration for her lover's quick thinking. Together, they formed an unbreakable line of defense, keeping each other safe while never losing sight of their friends.

As the battle raged on, the friends continued to support one another.

The tides of battle seemed to shift in their favor as the humanoids started to retreat. Yuuno, seizing the opportunity, focused his immense magical power into a massive dome of light that engulfed the remaining invaders. The friends watched in awe as the dome expanded, but it exploded unexpectedly, sending shockwaves through the battlefield. Waves of magic wash over everyone.

"Everyone, regroup!" Nanoha shouted amidst the chaos and confusion. But the residual magic energy from Yuuno's spell tore through the area, separating and transporting the friends despite their best efforts to stay together.

"Wait!" Fate cried out, reaching for Alicia who was just beyond her grasp. But it was too late; the magic had already separated them.

"Where is Suzuka?" Arisa panicked, frantically scanning her surroundings until she spotted her lover among the group consisting of Nanoha, Fate, Alph, and herself. She squeezed Suzuka's hand tightly, relief coursing through her veins.

"Come on, we need to move!" Nanoha urged as a group of orcs that had escaped the dome's destruction charged toward them. Without hesitation, they ran, desperately trying to outrun their pursuers.

"Alph, can you pick up Alicia's scent?" Fate asked, worry etched across her face. Alph shook her head, unable to find any trace of her master's sister.

"Stay strong, Fate," Nanoha reassured her. "We will find them again."

As they continued running, Arisa kept a firm grip on Suzuka's hand, her thoughts racing. *I can't believe we got separated like this. What happened?*

When the magic's effects had worn off they found themselves deep in a forest not knowing which direction to go to find the others. They were relieved that the Orcs seemed to have vanished along with the magic, allowing them a brief respite. Little did they know, they were hundreds of miles away heading in the opposite direction.

Alicia's voice rang out desperately through the distorted air, calling for Fate as their surroundings shifted and warped. Vita's keen senses alerted her to a building about to crumble nearby, and she sprinted towards Alicia. Just in time, she grasped Alicia's arm and pulled her away from the falling debris.

"Thanks, Vita," Alicia breathed heavily, her eyes still scanning for any sign of Fate. She knew that they had been separated by the magic, but she couldn't help feeling a profound sense of loss.

"Hey, stay focused," Vita tried to quell her fears. Hayate nodded, her resolve firm as she led the group eastward, followed by the Knights, Alicia, and Rynith.

"Stay alert, everyone. We don't know what dangers might be lurking around here," Hayate warned her strategic mind at work despite her deep concern for their friends. The group pressed onward, each step taking them further from their allies.

Nanoha looked around to see who had been swept away by the magic. She was relieved to see Arisa and Suzuka, but her heart quickened when she realized Fate was also there with her familiar. Sadly, no one else.

"We need to keep moving, we don't know if any of those monsters have followed us with the magic." Nanoha said.

"Shouldn't we stay in one place?" Fate asked. "In case they're looking for us."

"I was thinking of going up on the side of the mountain to see if we could get a better view and maybe spot them from there." Nanoha said, "Or maybe even get bearings on which direction we were sent in."

Fate looked slightly defeated but agreed with the plan.

"We were separated before and found each other. I'm sure we will again." Suzuka said, putting a comforting hand on Fate's shoulder.

"Thank you," Fate replied.

Nanoha took the lead with Fate and then Arisa and Suzuka right behind them. The higher they got into the mountains the harder it was for the three girls from earth to breathe the thinning crisp air.

Fate helped Nanoha, Arisa and Suzuka helped each other as they reached the peak of the mountain. Not able to see much as tonight was approaching, the group decided to set up camp in the small clearing they found. A sense of exhaustion settled over them, Alph had managed to catch some game they had cooked for dinner.

"Here," Nanoha said to Fate, handing her a warm bowl of food before sitting down beside her. "You need to keep your strength up."

"Thank you, Nanoha," Fate replied with a grateful smile. She took a bite and then looked into the fire, concern etched on her face. "Do you really think we'll find the others?"

"Of course," Nanoha reassured her, placing a comforting hand on Fate's shoulder. "We've been separated before. We'll reunite with them. I know it."

"Right," Fate murmured, nodding in agreement as Nanoha's words bolstered her spirits. She glanced over at Arisa and Suzuka, who sat on the other side of the campfire.

Arisa and Suzuka cuddled close together, sharing warmth and comfort as they leaned against each other. Their eyes met, and Suzuka gave Arisa a gentle squeeze. They didn't need words to communicate their feelings; the intimacy of their touch was enough to convey the depth of their growing affection.

"Everyone has changed so much since we first arrived in this world," Nanoha mused, watching their friends. "But we've become stronger because of it."

"Yeah," Fate agreed, her eyes softening. "And when we get back together with the others, I bet we'll be an even stronger team."

Sitting in silence for a moment, the crackle of the fire and the sounds of the night surrounding them. As the fire burned low and the night pressed on, Nanoha and Fate drifted off to sleep, side by side. Alph let them all sleep as she put up a barrier and kept watch.

Nanoha awoke to the morning light filtering through the trees, casting dappled shadows on the forest floor. She rubbed her eyes and sat up, looking around at her friends who were still sleeping on the other side of the now extinguished fire. Feeling a warmth on her side Nanoha looked down and saw Fate is right next to her. Nanoha's heart started to race and warmth came to her cheeks as she blushed.

"Morning," Fate murmured, stretching out her limbs as she too woke up. Accidentally hitting Nanoha in the breast. "Oh, I am so sorry." Fate stammered and blushed profusely.

"It's okay, good morning," Nanoha replied with a warm smile. Not knowing what to do about the butterflies and the tingling sensations she's feeling. "We should get moving soon if we want to find the others." Trying to distract herself.

"Agreed," Fate said, still blushing. The back of her hand tingles from hitting Nanoha's soft squishy globe. Her heart is ready to gallop out of her chest.

On the other side of the extinguished campfire, Arisa stirred in Suzuka's embrace. She opened her eyes slowly, taking in the peaceful scene around them. The birds sang in the branches around them, and the scent of dew-covered leaves permeated the air.

"Hey, wake up," Arisa whispered to Suzuka, giving her a gentle nudge.

"Already?" Suzuka groaned, snuggling into Arisa. "Just a few more minutes..."

Arisa couldn't help but chuckle. "Alright, just a little longer. But then we have to get going." Suzuka smiled as she cuddled closer to Arisa.

Once everyone was up and organized they finished off what was left of their food from the night before. Looking out over the forest canopy they noticed some wisps of smoke which could have been from the city they just came from.

"Okay, let's head out," Nanoha said. "We'll head towards that smoke and hopefully we'll run into the others on our way."

The others agreed and headed out. Making their way through the forest enjoying the cool air as they weave their way between the trees. Determination to meet up with their lost friends once more, putting a spring in their step.

"I still wonder what happened back there," Fate murmured. "That explosion from Yuuno's spell... it felt like something went wrong."

"Maybe it was more powerful than he anticipated," Nanoha suggested, her eyes scanning their surroundings. "But I'm sure he's okay. We just have to keep moving and trust that we'll find them soon." Fate nodded her head.

Once they had come down off the mountain it was hard for them to see the wisps of smoke, continuing in the direction that they thought the smoke was coming from.

"Hey, look over there," Nanoha said, pointing.

As they approached, they discovered a small pile of discarded weapons and armor, likely left behind by retreating orcs. Fate frowned, examining the gear. "This could mean that they're regrouping, or that Alicia and the others have already passed through here."

"Either way, we can't let our guard down," Arisa said.

"Agreed," Nanoha nodded, "Let's keep going."

The group pressed forward, following the trail of destruction left by the Orc's. As the day wore on, they didn't encounter any more signs of their friends.

Just as the sun began to set, casting an eerie glow over the landscape, the girls found themselves confronted by a new threat: a group of Goblin scouts. With a fierce battle cry, Arisa launched herself into the fray, her flames roaring to life as she engaged the enemy.

"Stay close!" Nanoha shouted, "Shoot!" Her Axel Shooter spell made quick work of the Goblins who dared to approach her and Fate.

"Riot Zanber!" Fate called out, Bardiche transforming into its sword form as she sliced through the advancing horde.

As the battle raged on, the girls fought with everything they had.

Unbeknownst to Nanoha's group, Hayate, and her Knights, Alicia, and Rynith were facing their own challenges, struggling to survive in a treacherous world that seemed determined to destroy everything and everyone.
