Chapter 49: Their Stories
"Hello?" Roberta answered.
"Hi honey" Sunny greets "Sunny, it's good to hear from you!" Roberta excitingly remarked "It's good to hear from you too". Instantly Roberta sensed something was wrong; her voice sounded sad. "Is everything okay? You sound like you want to cry".
"I'm fine" Sunny lied "I'm just a little lonely" which was true "Aw I'm sorry baby, I wish I was there with you; what's it like over there?".
Sunny looked at Chelsea as she cleaned Jessie "It's a desert," she plainly described "lots of space to get lost. Don't think you should get your nails or hair done here" she chuckles "Chelsea says there's a swimming hole somewhere in the mountains, maybe when we got a moment or two we could bring you up and swim at that place" she enthusiastically says "I think I'd like, just a little vacation".
"It's actually raining over here" "Really? I thought you were in the desert?".
"I am, it just started out raining out of nowhere. It's probably just temporary" Sunny looked as the rain poured outside "Weird weather" Roberta chimed "Yeah, blazing hot one minute then raining cats and dogs. I don't think we should get a second home around here" she muses "Maybe around the cliffs, I heard the view is great there" Roberta chuckles "I think I'd like that idea. Listen I got to go, talk to you later love" "Okay, love you lots baby". She put her phone back in her pocket It was the day after the whole nightmare that she had relieved from her childhood Sunny had kept her distance from Chelsea so she didn't cause any harm to her. She felt uncomfortable and uneasy with how she acted; rabid. Completely out of her mind after seeing a ghost she thought was dead and buried. Chelsea on the other hand seemed to let it be water under the bridge, she wasn't angry at Sunny for the whole turned out. It was terrifying about the whole ordeal that happened the day before. Sunny nearly cut her throat, it was only after that moment that she managed to calm her down.
The look in her eyes after the ordeal was shame and fright; fright at what nearly happened. After running back to her trailer Sunny shut down and didn't talk to her. Chelsea nudged her to talk "Sunny, come on, talk to me"; she didn't budge; and remained silent. Her knees were up to her chest, her head down and like a rock remained silent. She was like that all day until she went to sleep. Until early in the morning she didn't eat anything and mostly kept silent. Aside from drinking coffee she was mute.
It was odd that it rained. Sunny thought it must be a quickie, a small amount of rain to relieve any heat. Chelsea finished the assembly of Jessie and cleaned her thoroughly. She looked at Sunny as she was leaning against the doorway. She stared with dead eyes as the rain poured down. Chelsea got up and quietly took her place across from her. As Chelsea is about to open her mouth, the power goes out "Oh bugger". Sunny didn't seem to care that the power was gone for the time being; nothing effected her. Chelsea just looked at her with concern. It was a mystery on who she was dealing with. It's business not personal Sunny, and I'm going to kill you and dismember you Sunny. It was a mix of who she was on the inside. After seeing everything that happened, she was schizo at best. "So...uh nice weather we're having?" Chelsea pathetically starts the conversation "Mm-hmm..." Sunny coldly agreed.
"Listen, er, I'm not mad at you or anything about what happened the other day; it was just a freak accident..." she apologized "Just forget about it" Sunny answered her "No, look, I know you were kidding around; maybe we took it too far.
Sunny didn't seem to care; she sadly looked out the doorway, she looked sad and upset. Chelsea just couldn't understand her. She saw her mouth muttering something she couldn't hear "What? I can't hear you".
"It was raining just like that day...there was a thunderstorm that night..." like she remembering the past that turned into her current state. "Hey, I'm not going anywhere for the time being with everything being soaked out there. You know I'm not going to stop asking Chelsea reminds her; Sunny finally relented. She looked at Chelsea with reluctance in her eyes. "First though," Sunny sighed "you know a little too much about me"; Chelsea's mouth opened; she was tongue tied. "Uh, I don't know what you're talking about" she faked chuckled "What did I say about lying to me? Sunny warned "I-I'm not lying! Honest!" Chelsea nervously smiled "Do you remember what I told you before when we took that fucking truck job? You know, about trust?" she reminds "Uh-" Chelsea mindlessly looked at her "So are you going to tell? Or do I have to tie you up and hurt you?" Sunny threatened "Hmm? There's a lot of objects I could use here Sunny maliciously looked at her "You know if I broke that blender I could probably use the glass shards, pretty sure if I took off your shirt off and sli-".
"Okay! Okay! I get it! You don't have to give me nightmares over it" Chelsea took the hint.
"If you have to know, when I saw what happened at that bank on the news I asked a guy that I know to dig some information on you guys" Chelsea tells her truth "Guy did a thorough job" "And...what did you learn?" Sunny inquisitively asked. Chelsea seemed hesitant to answer. "You're not in trouble" Sunny assured her "Just tell me what you know". With a small sigh Chelsea finally tells "Well, for starters; did you know that Geraldine's adopted?".
"No way" Sunny was stunned by that fact "And that she trained in boxing" she adds "Plus she dated a few guys here and there but she never got serious with anyone" "Wow, she's been single for a while" Sunny was surprised "I wonder if she likes girls? Kinda like her friend?" Chelsea implied "I don't think Geraldine is a lesbian; maybe bi. But we don't know really know that" Sunny whistled "We're just going to leave it at that, and it's better if we don't mention this to her". Sunny put that type of information aside and focused back on the issue that foremost was on her mind "So...what did you learn about me?" Sunny questioned, with that question asked Chelsea clammed up. "Oh wow, would you look at the time" she faked chuckles "Better run those errands" she tries worm her way out of it "Stop right there" Sunny orders "Know your role and sit your ass back down!"; Chelsea leaned back against the wall "If I tell you this, promise me you won't freak out like before?" she looked at her "Promise" Sunny squarely looked at her "So out with it". It took Chelsea a minute to regain her calm composure.
"Okay" she exhaled "There was something about you-about that incident when you were inside".
"Start at the basics" Sunny tells her "Father?" Chelsea asked her first question "Never met him, let alone never heard much about him.
"Never?" Chelsea seemed stunned by that answer "I mean I had my mum and dad with me lots of times, but you never had your dad in your life" that saddened Chelsea to every sense in her "It was never a big deal with me, besides when I tried to ask my mother and sister they wouldn't answer me. They would just change the subject or just making something up" Sunny didn't seem too concerned about not knowing who her father was "I remember when I would ask about who my father was this one time, Linda told me that I was born to a group of gypsies and that they left me on our doorstep" she lightly laughed "I knew it wasn't true but after a while ..." she half heartily smiled "I just stopped asking, I just stopped bringing it up altogether and just accepted that I didn't have a father growing up" that seemed to have made her sad on the inside for every reason that made her feel more sad than before. Sunny looked back up "Let's talk about the other stuff"; Sunny was eager to move on to the real question. "So...
Chelsea looked at her "What else do you know about me?". Chelsea looked coyly at her and whistled a sing a long tune "Do I really need to repeat myself again?" Sunny threatened, Chelsea nodded no "You know what? We'll do something different" she quickly suggest, Chelsea just listened "I'll tell you everything about what happened to me..." Sunny quickly propositions "The whole thing...no bs...the full fucking story; no holds barred". Chelsea was stunned by that proposal, she never seemed so open like that "But there's a catch, I'm guessing?
Sunny simply nods her head "You're going to tell me everything about yourself, namely why you hate rich people". Chelsea scoffed at that idea "Come on, really?".
"That's fair in my opinion, otherwise you don't get anything else from me; deal?". Chelsea sighed "Okay fine, if that's what it takes".
"Okay then" Sunny breathed in than out "Here goes... .
It was a week or two after I had lost my mother..." Sunny's mood quickly saddened "I was so devastated after she passed away, I tried to get a temporary visit so I could go to her funeral..." she closed her eyes and exhaled shakingly "They denied my request; can you fucking believe that?" she looked back up with sadness and grief in her eyes. While she wasn't crying physically Chelsea could see that she was crying on the inside. "I was so sad after that. I cried and screamed my lungs out...I hit the cell door so much that I thought my hand would break" she recalls "I just shut down after that...I just couldn't talk to anyone" Sunny bit her lip "Everybody there gave me space, they just left me alone her eyes dart to the side "Except her..." the bitter taste in her mouth returned "Her name was Jessica, I can't remember that last name of hers". Chelsea looked on. "From what I can I remember, she-" Sunny chuckled a bit as the irony seemed to get to her "She was a product of where she came from. Piss poor, a dead beat dad who never cared about her and wasn't even in her life, a worthless meth head mom who beat the crap out of her and a whore who spread her legs on a weekly basis".
"I get the feeling that you weren't her favorite person" Chelsea deduced "She never liked me for the most common reason; I was Asian. Stupid uneducated inbred trailer trash cunt" Sunny sneered "I forgot to mention that she was a racist piece of maggot shit, everywhere I went she would call me every fucking name you could think of. Chink, gook, yellow bitch, slope. She would look at me and say 'My grandpa killed a lot of you motherfuckers in Vietnam!'".
"I told her that I was Korean not Vietnamese, stupid bitch. But she didn't care, her and that skank brigade of hers kept on messing with me. The bitches never left me alone. The only time I felt safe was when my mother came to visit once every week" she lamented "What was she in for exactly?".
Sunny puffed her cheeks "She had a long list. Assault with a deadly weapon, grand theft auto, drug dealing, trespassing and animal cruelty. The thing that did her in though was murder" "Murder?" Chelsea questioned "Double murder to be exact; she kidnapped her ex boyfriend. Then kidnapped his new girlfriend. She tied them up and gagged them both. Crazy bitch tortured that girl with battery acid, she poured it on her legs and some of it on her face. That guy had to watch that. Hmph, I felt sorry for him.
She then cut her throat with a knife. I think she got it worse than he did. That guy wasn't so fortunate, beaten to death with a wrench. From I what I remembered the cops didn't even recognize him; his face was just beyond bloodied. That was just mildly putting it".
Chelsea felt rather sickened after hearing that. "Then one day..." Sunny briefly paused "She just had to push it with me".
"It was in the cafeteria...I was sitting by myself...couldn't even touch the food...she walked up with those bitches of hers...
"Well, well, well!" Jessica chuckles "Look who it is, it's my favorite little gook!".
Sunny looked up at the red headed tormentor. Jessica was unappealing in every way, both physically and mentally. She was sixteen, taller than Sunny by five inches. Bright orange messy hair. Emerald green eyes and skinny as a rake. Even if she wasn't in jail people would probably mistake her for a homeless drug addict. Ever since she got in, Jessica was always relentless when it came to picking on Sunny. She couldn't seem to dodge her no matter what she did. "Heard you had a rough week, little gook baby crying!" she taunts "Leave me alone...I'm warning you...".
"I read that they jumped you" Chelsea remembered the incident report "Yeah..." Sunny all to remembered her near death experience "Nearly broke my arm in two, broke my ribs and beat the crap out of me" she could still feel the beating "I couldn't breathe right for a week, I was a mess; it got worse after that" "So, what did she say to you that set you off...?". Sunny bit her lip; remembering the whole thing; broadly enough. She remembered the worst moment was about to begin in three...two...one...
"Heard your chink faced mom of yours died" she insulted. Slowly her blood boils into the extreme. "What's the matter yellow monkey cunt? You gonna cry?" Jessica evilly mocked "You know, you're just like that mom of yours; like mother like daughter. Just another narrowed chink faced monkey wh-!". Sunny jumped across the table. Red was all she saw. Her scream echoes throughout the cafeteria as her fist punches that ugly face of hers. Those two friends of hers pulled Sunny off. She bit one of her arm. The skank cries and lets go. Sunny quickly grabs her tray and violently beats that skank several times. The other one tried to grab her, Sunny rammed the tray into her stomach. The bitch looses her breath and falls against the table. She grabs her by the hair and repeatedly slams her head against the table. Sunny keeps slamming her head until the table is stained with blood from the head wound.
Jessica painfully gets back up. Blood coming out from above her left eye. Some from her nose also from that disgusting mouth of hers. She breathed rapidly. The blood hid the fact that she was angry, mostly that this little punk managed to get the first swing at her. "You little fucking yellow faced whore!" she swung her right fist at Sunny, her fist gets deflected by the tray. Her left fist tries to strike but like the right it gets deflected by the tray again. With all her might Sunny slams the board on top of her head. The whole tray explodes as the force shatters the orange plastic. Bits of orange scatter around the floor. She huffed and puffed from the amount of rage that she had unleashed was still pumping through her veins. There lay her Jessica and the bitches on the cafeteria floor now in a bloody heap. Jessica breathed painfully, the bits of orange plastic sticking onto her bloodied face and three pieces sticking out of the middle of her skull.
Sunny stood above her. She tosses the broken tray away. Her chest heaves in and out as the rage in her veins are still swirling in her. "You-You-" Jessica painfully coughed "You fucking narrow eyed-!". Sunny leaped down and began unleashing a barrage of fist onto that ugly face of hers. Her fist just pummels into her mug. If the whole thing was a part of a movie scene then it would be played slow motion for everyone to watch. She then went to her right arm, wrapped herself around that limb. A loud snap is heard. She goes to the left arm and another snap is heard. Sunny screamed like an animal unchained as she kept on punching. All the others looked on as they were to scared too do anything, let alone that they hated Jessica and her cronies like everyone else. They just kept on watching.
The guards burst through and pulled Sunny off. She screamed and hollered like a beast wanting to finish off her prey.
"LET GO OF ME! I'LL KILL YOU! I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU! YOU HEAR ME!" she roars. It took over five guards to hold her down as she kept screaming whatever obscenity came out of her mouth. The stretcher finally comes in. The end result of the whole thing: two head injuries, one that will require stitches to the left side of her head. The leader of the group is left with a black eye, several bruises around her face, a concussion, both of her arms dislocated and a broken jaw.
She screams and screams; desperate to finally end it.
Chelsea looked at Sunny "Wow" she said astonished after hearing that "Can't say I don't blame you for doing that, I know I would have done that if that twat faced hillbilly said that about my mum or dad". Sunny shook her head "I snapped, I just couldn't take it anymore," she sighed "everything just went red. I couldn't get a moment to myself and that red headed whore just pushed it with me". Sunny shook her head "It was a long time coming, all she had to do was throw that matchstick into the gasoline" she harkened to the position that made she took during that incident "Guessing the staff weren't too pleased with what you did?".
"They were not, I was supposed to be in solitary for a month plus be moved to high security for eight months" Sunny scoffs "It got appealed really fast and I only did two days in confinement", Chelsea was astonished at that "Two days? she was amazed "I'm surprised they didn't keep you there forever". Sunny hummed "I was let off easy because my boss intervened, so there's that" she mentioned Park "Friends in high places" Chelsea quips "And I'm guessing the bitch you beat the crap out of wasn't happy with what happened to her?".
Sunny scoffed "A pissed off little thirteen year old Korean girl beating the shit out of a white trash hillbilly? Oh no; she was pissed" she mused to herself "And that's...where its going to get really bad" her tone cryptically changed "I'm guessing this is where there's a plot twist in this next part?" Chelsea's heart started to race "I wouldn't say it's a plot twist, more like a twist with a hint deadliness to it" Sunny quickly summarized "What happened...?
She quickly inhaled "Jessica was in the hospital wing, she was there for over a week. One night, it rained; kinda like today; and there was a thunderstorm to make things worse. It was during that night that the power in that part of the facility went out. And Jessica had an..." Sunny closes her eyes and exhaled, she raised her right hand. Her eyes stared at it; as if she had blood on it.
"Let's just say that she got an unexpected visitor...".
"Mm..." Jessica grumbled; she was like that for the whole week; mainly because of that gook.
It made her angry because that little brat managed to get the jump on her like that. Her mouth was wired shut. Talking was almost impossible for her. For a little brat she could hit hard, that still made her angry though. That little slope she thought got lucky. Luck was all it was she told herself, once she heals then Jessica will show her what real pain means. Once her arms heal, she'll make her pay.
Just then everything goes dark. The rumbling of the thunder was heard. Stupid thunderstorm must have knocked out the power. Jessica sat still for a moment She heard the door opening. With her arms hung up in front of her and with her body still healing, she couldn't stand up to see who it was. She heard footsteps but couldn't see who it was. The dark made it impossible to see anything; the window was the light in the room. A figure steps forward out of the shadows. Her eyes flared as the person who put her in the hospital wing. Thunder flashed when she saw her. It must have been her imagination but when the thunder hit Jessica thought that one of her pupils was glowing dark red.
She looked different. Her hair was tied into a single ponytail. The look on her face was cold and heartless.
It still made Jessica want to rip her apart.
"How you doing?" Sunny grimly remarked, Jessica growled through her wire "What? I can't hear you; speak a little louder" she cruelly mocked. "Rmmf!" she screamed through the wire, Sunny chuckled crazily. It got slightly louder. It sounded deadly along with calculating. "What's the matter? Cat got your tongue?" Sunny snickered "Why, where are your friends? Hmm? You seem a little bit lonely all by yourself," she cocked her head and with a smile "so I decided to pay you a visit. Just so you wouldn't get lonely.
Sunny reached behind her waistband and pulled out a shank. Jessica's eyes widen as she defenseless. She starts thrashing in a pathetic way of fighting back "Now, now, now. No need to feel sad! That's what a real friends does!" Sunny crawled onto her kicking "Mmmm! Mmmm!". She makes it to her hips "What's the matter?" Sunny fake pouted "Why you're acting like we're not friends" she sat up right "Aren't we friends? I mean, after all, remember our playtime in the hallway? Or our first time meeting each other, you know, when you called me-what was it? Oh yeah, a dirty commie slant eyed monkey.
"There's only little wittle problem...I wasn't laughing or having fun".
With that first line Sunny plunged the shank into her right lung. If Jessica's mouth wasn't wired shut then she'd probably call for help or in her case, screaming for help, Sunny saw the pained look on her face "Oh, did that hurt?" she snickered madly. "You thought just because you were a little older than me that you could try to dominate me. Newsflash, I fought back. See I'm not like the bitches in this place that are scared to death of you and those skanks" she rips the shank out.
The blood started to pour out. Jessica was in a lot of pain.
"Look at me" Sunny ordered "I said look at me". Jessica finally opened her eyes.
"You think you're so funny, huh?" Sunny's hands strikes her across "HUH?!".
The shanks pierces her left lung.
"But you, you and those friends of yours, oh you just had to push" Sunny wrapped her hand around a chunk of her "My mother died, I was grieving" she rips out of her left lung. Sunny showed it to her victim "But that wasn't enough for you, you had to rub every bit of salt into my fucking wound. You soulless rotten bitch, you just couldn't give me any peace" Jessica's eyes were still filled with hate but also with a lot of pain.
"She used that line..." Sunny closed her eyes and remembered "And I said that exact same thing back to her...".
"What's the matter? Can't you take a joke?" Sunny started to laugh. Her laugh was hearty but slowly became a crazed laughter to be feared "You're not laughing...why aren't you laughing?", Jessica struggled as the blood started to ooze out "Guess you're not so funny after all!" Sunny evilly insanely laughed. With that last laugh, Jessica got a last look at her opponent. No longer the scared little kid crying for her mommy. She's not that anymore. Now she's the black wolf, in full form now. Sunny raised the blood stained shank. And with one full swoop, the skull made a sickening crunch sound as the blade makes a sickening crunch. Jessica's now dead eyes stared up at her; shocked. They stare right at Sunny. She heaved her breath in then out. All the violence that had poured out of her body back at her house, finally consumed her. She would be lying if she said that she didn't enjoy.
Another flash of thunder strikes. Her right pupil glowed red as the flash lit the room.
It was over she thought. She was really dead. Sunny just stared at her eyes, they looking right back at her. She felt nothing; no regret; no remorse.
The blood started to stain the sheets. The light started to flicker. Power was going to coming back on momentarily. The guards are going to find their surprises in the morning. It's the type of surprise that may leave a mark on them. She hopped off onto the floor. Like a ghost she slips through the corridors without making a sound.
Chelsea stared at her. Shocked that she finally confessed her deed. All in gruesome detail.
"Back then I used to have longer hair," Sunny lamented "a couple of days after I had done that; I took a pair of scissors; I started cutting away" she jestered with her two fingers to make a scissoring motion.
She looked at the mirror that she snuck in earlier in the day. Sunny's hand goes through her hair. She wasn't the same person anymore, she hardly recognized who she was. They of course asked about her about Jessica and her friends. They found them the morning after the storm; shocked and horrified. To think that someone offed three people in the middle of the storm.
A couple of hours ago they brought Sunny in and questioned her. Needless to say Sunny said nothing new to them, as did everyone else. Jessica had many enemies in the whole place. It could have been anyone for all they know. It's not like would miss her anyways.
She tied her hair into a single ponytail. She brings the tail towards to the front and cuts it.
It falls into the sink. She starts to cut every bit of it. Strands of her long hair soon fall bit by bit.
She looked at herself in the mirror. Her once beautiful hair that her mother braided and cared for, is now gone. She's no longer the sweet girl anymore. That person is long gone, she longer existed. The aurora of sadness and regret now clouds above her. That person is dead and not coming back.
Sunny sighed as she ended her story "So that's it, that's my story" she looked back at Chelsea "Now I know why I felt uneasy around you, you look just like her, except she had a few missing teeth and spoke like a gumless hick.
"Hey I still got my teeth. Yeah I drink beer and sugary crap but I still have my teeth" Chelsea puffed her cheeks "Well, you're better looking than her and ten times better than her in every way possible" Sunny praised "And at least you have some fortitude, plus you're smarter than her; more or less" she nonchalantly added "Uh thanks I think". Sunny sighed, reliving the whole thing was uneasy for her. "Okay now its your turn to tell your story". Chelsea whistled in her way of avoiding the "Chelsea...? What did I say?" Sunny reminded her "Okay-okay, I'll tell you; I'm not gonna like it" she huffed "Okay, were to start? My mum and dad were spies! They were the best spies in all of Australia!" "Okay, stop right there, you know that's not true" Sunny put her story down "I'm just adding some flavor to my story, that's all" Chelsea adds "If you want the truth fine, I'll give it to you.
"No bs, okay?" Sunny tells her. Chelsea shook her head and sighed.
"You know, I should probably tell that I snuck into your room while you weren't here" Sunny says "Invading privacy much? I don't sneak around your room" "You snuck into my house to meet me" she reminds Chelsea "That was different, besides we're working together now" "And then comes our closet, where you found the unspeakable" meaning the toy "It was an accident. Besides at least I got free dinner with you and your girlfriend; so there's that".
"Yeah but you blackmailed me to use our pool" "Oh come on, it wasn't that bad".
Chelsea sighed "Okay, I have to ask, what did you find in my room?" "Well I found your army uniform" Sunny mentioned "Probably one of the best moments, you know I think you'd fit in the Aussie army" Chelsea touts "I really don't see the vision of me of wearing BDU's, not to say that I would look bad in them" "See, you already like that idea. Don't think the SAS or RAR would take you in, shit you pretty much would fit right in with them; probably get the job done better".
"Thanks, I don't know what that is but I'll take that as a complement".
"So what else did you find in my room?" Chelsea bubbly asked "I found a medal for swimming, a lot of them" Sunny looked at her "Ah, my medals from swimming, next to being in the army that was my biggest achievement!" she gleefully boasted "I found a red one piece, guessing that's yours" "Yeah, red was the color of our swim team".
"Theirs a small tear near where the right butt cheek area is" Sunny mentioned "It looked like you were trying to squeeze into it" "Okay, I may have tried to wear it a few months ago before I met you two. I thought it would still fit, didn't think their would be a tear in my suit.
"Or maybe your ass has gotten a little big and you should lay off the chili fries" Sunny remarked "I said before I'm naturally skinny, okay. My ass is fine and has nothing to do with me pigging out" Chelsea sneered "Sure" Sunny snarked with a smile "So aside from your ass not fitting in your old swimsuit, tell me about where you lived" "Ah, the Gold Coast!" Chelsea reminisced "I miss it so much, the beaches are so wonderful. Gerry would like it, hell maybe you and girlfriend would love it" "I heard there are a lot of spiders in Australia" "Yeah..." Chelsea trailed "Their poisonous aren't they?" she deduced "Some, you just may want to check where you keep your clothes, otherwise a funnel web might bite you".
Sunny shivered at the sight of that thought "You guys would love the beaches, oh, their just so beautiful!" Chelsea happily exclaimed "God I miss it so much!" she squeaked with excitement "Miss your parents?" she wondered "Of course! I don't think they would like it here though, the snobbiness here would probably give her a heart attack" "So how did you go on about hating the rich? Guessing it's not because you weren't that popular in school".
"Ugh, they always hated" Chelsea was already disgusted thinking about it "They think just because they got all that money, they think whatever they want without ever getting any type of consequence" she growls "Assholes, every one of them" "Just like at that restaurant we shot up a while back, you were ready to kill them" Sunny remembered the whole incident "But I didn't" "Only because I stopped you before you massacred them". They both looked at each other "Look, what do you want me to do about it? Flog myself daily?".
"You're right about them being assholes, but still they'll still get whats coming to them when it's their time" Sunny hints "Well, their time isn't coming fast enough, so poo on that".
"You know, when my mother got money from working with the organization we bought a lot of stuff; a new house by the beach. Good food and nice looking clothes; doesn't that make me rich by definition?
Chelsea looked at her confused "That's different. You weren't born with a silver spoon in your ass, your mum did what she had to do to keep the three of you from being thrown out into the gutter. That's something I can respect". Sunny took a small glimmer of amusement in that statement. "I guess the rich kids like you school?" "You guessed correctly" Chelsea got even more disgusted thinking about them "They never liked me. Correction; they fucking despised me from the minute they saw me" she says with disgust "You see, I was called a bogan trash" Chelsea hated saying that word "What the hell is a bogan? I don't think I ever heard of that word".
With a hard swallow Chelsea bit her lip; remembering the taunts.
"It was the local slang for red neck or not a really smart person, either way I was called that lots of times" her mood saddened "What do you mean? You're smart, in a crazy like a fox and a fuck type of way Sunny tells her "Well it didn't matter to them, they fucking hated me ever since kindergarten. And guess what? I fought back a lot, I wasn't going to take shit from those types of people, and worst of all they always called me a cheater.
Chelsea gritted her teeth and remembering how she hated being called that "And did you ever cheat?" Sunny wondered "No! I never did!" she pointed her finger out at her "Everything I did was through hard work! And what the fuck do they ever get? Money! A big house! Fancy meals! And trips to whatever fucking continent just because they could afford it! Me and everyone else they didn't like we worked our asses for everything! And they fucking hated us for it! We weren't rich but we took pride in what hard work could do!
You know we were lived? A fucking mobile park, not the mansion, yes I know what you're going to say; a fucking mobile. There I said it!" Sunny looked at her stunned "Well...that's something, but we lived in a gang infested neighborhood, so I guess we're not so different in childhoods" "Well at least you never had to deal with bullies with money" Chelsea remarked "What did your mom and dad do for work?".
"Mum does house cleaning, she has her own cleaning company and hasn't stopped doing it" she proudly states "Dad was in the Royal Navy but left after him and mum got married, he worked odd jobs here and there. Things like construction, carpentry, working in a restaurant and as a mechanic. He worked stocking warehouses, it made good money but he had to leave it...mum thought he wasn't spending enough time with us" Chelsea stressfully sighed "They got into an argument...I pretty much screamed at them to stop..." she didn't like remembering that moment "Uh anyways, dad ended up taking electrical engineering as a job and been doing it ever since. He's really good at doing it" she happily smiled "Any peculiar moment that stood out for you? Something before you joined the military? Something from your early days at school?
Chelsea started to think for a moment "There was one" she recalls "Do tell".
"It was around middle school. We had a test, some type of academic thing; I can't remember. But anyways, this little rich twerp cheated on the test. Now you think that the teachers and principal would do something but they didn't, you know what happened? His fucking father came in and convinced the whole thing was of 'poor character' and that he was under extreme duress. Really he just threw some money at the principal and he got academic probation". Sunny looked at her aghast "Are you serious? That little twerp got academic probation? Not even detention or getting expelled?" "Not even a suspension" Chelsea sigh "Guessing his dad was someone" "He was an investment banker. Made lots of money and he had some pull with school". Sunny shook her head "Then," Chelsea starts "a peculiar incident happened" Sunny tilted her head "What kind of incident?".
"Well...when everybody had heard that he had gotten off easy, they were pissed. Then all of a sudden, he went to the bathroom..." she playfully wobbles her head "Somebody went in and...had a small chat with him" "What kind of chat?" "He was beaten to a bloody pulp" she explained "Really? Someone beat the hell out of him?".
Chelsea looked squarely at Sunny "Yeah, he got his just desserts" "Did they find the person who beat him?" Sunny seemed to have an inkling "No, he said he didn't see who beat him up; so who knows. I'm sure she's long gone" "I didn't say she" Sunny tells her "Well I didn't see it and I didn't do it, if that's what you're insinuating" "I didn't say it was you either". The two look at each other. General and soldier having a stare down. "I wasn't there, end of story..." "Whatever, let's talk about something else.
"Friends?", Chelsea opened her mouth but then closed it "You didn't have any did you?" she questioned "I had friends" Chelsea puffed her cheeks "Just not that many" "Uh huh" Sunny prods "Well what do you expect? Nobody liked me, there. They hated me because I wasn't one of them. And mum kept saying 'Chelsea, dear, why don't you try smiling more?', she didn't understand what those fuckers were doing to me. But she kept insisting things will get better once they get to know me, they got to know me and still hated my guts".
Sunny looked at her "Well, we're not perfect" "Tell me about it, it never got better for me no matter what".
"So how did you get into swimming? Can't see you picking it up" "It wasn't my idea. Mum saw something in the bulletins at school and thought it was a good idea, I wasn't really keen on doing it and tried to talk my way out of it but she just persisted, and I ended up caving in.
I went to my first try out, everyone looked at me and was weirded out when they saw me in my suit. This tacky green thing that mum bought because she didn't like the one I was going to wear before that" "Which was?" Sunny giggled "It was a black one piece with tiny pink skulls on them" "Yeah, I can see you swimming in a tacky green one piece" she snickers "Hardy har har" Chelsea stuck her tongue out "Okay, so eventually I had my first tryout, everyone else just looked at me; they just didn't like me. They thought that I would do something to them if I didn't make the cut. I ended up doing three laps and with that I was on the swim team. Mum and dad was proud but not everyone kept clear of me. They pretty much avoided me when I went to change in the locker room".
"When was this?" Sunny looked out at the rainy view "High school, junior year. I was sixteen at that time".
"It must have taken a while to have gotten used to you" "It did. Swimming you see, it just..." Chelsea struggles to come up with the analogy of her former sport "When you swim, the way your body just glides through the water" the euphoric smile creeps up on her face "It feels like you're flying almost, oh look at me!" she put her hands on her cheeks thinking about the many times she swam "It was just beautiful".
"The whole thing just came naturally to me!" Chelsea got excited in the most happiest way possible "I found my calling for the first time in my life, when we went to a comp I always came in first and always got first place! I was their secret weapon as they put it!" she chuckles "And after that everybody started to stop calling that after a while, it just felt so weird to hear them giving me those praises in every comp I participated in; they treated me like a person. Mum and dad were just amazed on how well I did on every comp, they never worried after that. No calls from teachers or the principal, none of that during that time in school. I just fit in like any other person" she wearily smiles "It's stupid really, to be treated like a person. When pretty much I've been treated like crap since I was little; it was so strange". Then her eyes closed "But like everything before that it turned to complete shit, just one little fucking thing to ruin it for me".
"What happened?"
With a heavy heart Chelsea made her case.
"Last year of high school; I was seventeen and we gotten to the regional finals. We had scored pretty big and we took home a huge trophy. Everything was going great until a little rumor that ruined everything for me" a sour and disgusted expression was on her face "What rumor?" Sunny wondered "Someone had said they saw me juicing, you know; steroids. That I've been doing it since previous comps of that year". Sunny looked at her stunned "They you accused of cheating throughout the whole tournament? No proof?" "Yeah! They took a faulty little nothing rumor and fucked me hard!" she stomps her foot "They took my medals from that comp and kicked me off the team," her heart starts to hurt "all that hard work was just taken from me" Chelsea sniffled holding back her tears "Did you try to appeal that to the people in charge?" "Ugh, I tried and you wouldn't believe what they said to me.
"What the bloody hell do you mean no? I'm telling you the bloody truth! I didn't cheat!"
The two men and two women panel were unconvinced at Chelsea's pleas "We know you didn't cheat but simply put we're not taking any chances" the one woman judge says "And besides, you're reputation for your anger has predates your previous years" she states "That has nothing to do with this" Chelsea tries to keep her temper in line. "Chelsea's been a straight shooter ever since she joined the team last year" her coach assures "she's a quality athlete. Ask all the other girls and they'll all tell you that she plays an honest game".
All of them didn't seem convinced. "You're her coach, of course you would stand up for her" that one female panelist snarked "This girl has a bad reputation for her temper but she good at heart. How many of those others were given a chance and succeeded in competitions?" the coach questions "That's not-" "A lot. That's the answer I'm gonna give that to you. You take this girls medals away and destroy her momentum, for what? Some rumor that someone probably started. All of you are better than that and you know it".
The panel looked at each other and whispered to each other.
"Alright, we'll review the whole matter. Properly and thoroughly" the panel promises.
Frustrated Chelsea abruptly leaves "One last thing" one of the panels calls out to her "If we find the evidence needed to clear you, you will still have to give us a sample of your urine to prove you weren't on any type of drugs". Chelsea scoffed at that notion "You're fucking daft!" she laughs "Chelsea..." her coach looked at her with concern "Fine but when you find out I'm telling the truth, I'm going to take that cup of piss and throw it in your face!".
"You actually said that to them?" Sunny starts to laugh "Yeah, I did, and I meant it too!" she sneered "Did they actually follow up with that investigation?" "Ha, they did at first but they stopped giving a shit and didn't bother going any further then that; just a fucking waste. When that bogged down I decided to investigate myself".
"After a while I found out who it was, and not to my surprise; she was rich. Her name was Miranda Locke, I forgot how much she secretly hated me" "What did her parents do?" "Her dad built and sold condos to people, her mum was a fashion designer. I remember she had bleach blond hair that she loved to brush. Is it ever that no guy ever wanted to get laid because of her".
"Is this the important part? The one thing to made you like this".
"She just had...to...say...that...fucking...word..." Chelsea trembled with anger.
Miranda adjusted her skirt. She had her night planned out with her friends. With the fake ID's that they got. they'll be able to sneak into the nightclub that she's been dying to get into. Pretty soon she was going to be done with swimming for the whole semester. Miranda hasn't heard anything from Tenille for a while now. She wondered what was she up to. She stopped talking to them altogether since the competition. She was upset at the . Just 'cause it happened to Chelsea doesn't mean that she deserved it. And she shouldn't feel sorry for her simply because the two of them had become friends all of a sudden didn't mean that she should stop talking to her.
Tenny, as everyone called her, needed to lighten up.
"Tenille?"
"She's a friend, just the sweetest person anyone could have at their friend" Chelsea tells "Wasn't she rich?" "She was but she didn't seem to care that much for it. I don't think she liked being rich, first time we hung together she didn't like having that money at all. She always felt that it brought a lot of fakeness with it, she saw so much bullshit with it and she hated it. She was the only real friend I had.
"Weren't they friends? Tenille and that girl?" "They were and they knew each since third grade but that didn't mean that Tenille liked Miranda. She always hung with me as an excuse not to hang out with Miranda. She told me once that she didn't like being around around Miranda, she was just phony in her words. She knew what Miranda was really like; an ice queen with no heart; someone who needs to be in the spotlight. Poor Tenny. Everybody called her that, she everybody's friend but she was always my friend and she was always likable.
She was the one that told me everything" "About what happened at the tournament?" "I had to ask questions around, and nobody gave me an answer. That is until Tenille decided to come to me and told me everything. She didn't know what Miranda had done but that bitch bragged to her about everything. She thought that Tenny wouldn't say anything but she came forward with this to me, Tenny didn't know about the whole thing let alone she wasn't apart of it. It was on all on Miranda and I'm not gonna lie, she had it coming.
Everything was done. Miranda was ready to tear the house down. She closes the locker door.
"Going somewhere?"
Chelsea leaned against the locker "Oh! Chelsea! You scared me!" Miranda lets out a fake fright "You're all dolled up, must be going to a big party" she guessed "Yeah, there's a new nightclub that I've been trying to get into for a while. Oh you know what? You should come with us, have some fun with us" Miranda playfully suggested "I'd ask Tenny but she seems to be ignoring me" "Well," Chelsea's tone "I'm sure she has her reasons" "Well, look, I have to get go-! "Actually I need to tell you something...see it involves what happened at the comp".
Miranda looked at her "What do you mean?" "I know it was you who said those things about me".
She tried to act confused "What are you talking about? Have you finally gone daffy?" she chuckled "Don't fucking lie!". The other girls heard the shout and looked at them. "Look I think you got the wrong person" "Tenille told me everything...everything...". After a minute Miranda's real self finally showed "That was stupid of Tenny to tell you, a good for nothing stoolie when you need her the most. Some friend" she snides "Useless little tramp" "Watch your mouth bitch, Tenny is always going to be a great friend to everyone. She had the rotten luck of having you for a friend. Tenny is just too good of a person to have a cunt like you as a friend and you don't deserve her".
Miranda chuckles ignorantly, she wasn't phased by the harsh language.
"Why? Why the fuck would you do that to me? I never did anything to you", Miranda gave an arrogant smile "You want to know why? All I heard was how great you were 'Chelsea this! Chelsea that!' I just got so fucking sick of it. They treated like some god or something.
"So yeah, I admit it" she smugly confesses "I made that whole story about you and they fucking bought it!" she laughs "The way they took you off the team; that was priceless. That look on your face when they kicked back down at the bottom was the best" "You're sick, you just wanted my spot. You're fucking mad" Chelsea's anger seethed "Tenny ended up finding out, she was just like you. She always hung around you, she followed you around like a puppy. She was so attached to you; just pathetic. She said 'How could you?' and I said it was that easy" Miranda snickered "She's just a worm after telling you. Just a useless twat". Chelsea starts to tremble.
"You're going to go to the board and tell them everything, you fucking fake blonde bitch, or you're going to be really sorry...".
Miranda mockingly laughed "Sorry? Doesn't matter what I say, my dad would get me out of it. I'm his princess, see? So you got nothing.
"And besides, who's going to believe you?" Miranda gave the most smug that she had ever given to anyone.
What she says next, is something that will be the moment that seals her fate.
And something that everyone in that locker room won't forget for the rest of their lives.
"It doesn't matter what you do. You will always be bogan trash. No matter how hard you swim or how many medals you get, you're just a bogan bitch with no class".
Everything in Chelsea's ears went mute as she pushes Miranda to the floor. Her fist starts to violently pummel into the blondes face. Everything going in slow motion for her. Her screams were muffled by that muteness in her ears. Her fist are starting to bleed. Five girls pull her off. With her strength Chelsea inched her way back to finish her off. Two security guards who heard the commotion, run to stop her from killing her.
Chelsea's hearing finally returns "LET ME GO! YOU BITCH! GET UP! GET UP! COME ON YOU MOTHERFUCKER!".
Miranda lay on the floor in a helpless heap. Her face would be unrecognizable for a while after this. And she wouldn't be able to smile for the duration of the beginning of next spring.
Sunny was speechless "There's my story" Chelsea looked straight at her "Fuck, I can see why you hated them. What happened afterwards?" "Well, I was expelled. Charges weren't pressed. Tenille's dad was a great lawyer" she remarked "How bad did that bitch get it?" "Both of her eyes were shined up. I broke her nose. I busted her face open. And I knocked out several of her teeth".
"What about your friend? I'm guessing she was persona non grata?" "Tenny ended up doing home schooling for the rest of the semester. The people up Miranda's ass would have made her life a living hell if she stayed on campus. From what I remember, Tenny left for Sweden. She took a job for a tech firm there. We occasionally talk...when she's bored and needs to escape from cyberspace" Chelsea seemed sad talking about her first and, truly, only real friend "Guessing your parents weren't happy that you kicked out of school?". Chelsea scoffed "They were worried. They thought that I get involved in gangs or something. After a few weeks I was the recruiter's office with dad and a couple weeks later I was off to boot camp" Chelsea finished that first complicated part of her story.
The power finally comes back on. "Finally" Chelsea was relieved when the power came back on "Was that why you wanted to kill those people at that restaurant? Because of how that bitch acted with you?" Sunny understood "I robbed my first safe when I was twenty one, some gold digging twat married to some eigty old geezer. Three hundred and seventy five pounds. The rich, she gave a cocky look "all they do whine how about us common folks don't work hard enough and our dreams don't come true because we're too lazy. Bollocks and rubbish" she sneared "They have all that money and crave it more than anything in the world. Greedy selfish little fucks. Wish I could destroy all of them" she curses her enemies. Sunny looked away.
The silence between them crept back up.
They now had a full understanding of each other.
"So now we understand each other" Chelsea sat next to her "Where do we go from here?"
Sunny gave it some thought.
"We're different but we're pretty much the same. I have done of other things that I'm not proud of...and those are personal" she looked into her eyes "I hate this fucking life I lived in, I think my mother would have hated that I've done those things" she shamefully sighed "Come on, you can't you blame yourself those things. At least you have your sister and your girlfriend. That's what really matters".
A smile starts to slowly form "You're right. You're a weird looking punk from down under but you're right" Sunny nudges her arm "Thanks. But I don't like being called weird".
Both started to laugh. A happy laugh to boot.
Their hands snake around each other as they continued laughing. The rain eventually stops but they still laughed.
Now they truly were one.
General and soldier til the end of time.
