Chapter 50: A Girl And Her Dreams
Roberta tossed and turned in her sleep. It was a dream that she had been getting lately. In it her and Sunny are holding hands as usual, when her love pulls out the ring and proposes to her. She quickly says yes. A magical wedding with all their friends. A large cake. The wedding taking place on a beach overlooking a sunset. They're say their vows and say 'I do', and kiss. A honey to an exotic location; either in the Caribbean; possibly Europe. Sunny even once talked about visiting her mother's home country of South Korea once, most notably Seoul. The dream always had something she never thought of: kids. Her and Sunny as parents. Doing what all parents and raise a family together.
And just like always the dream ends. It was like a novella, it'd be considered a cliffhanger to the audience. She wakes up to the other side of her bed empty. It was only a couple of weeks but it felt like forever since she saw Sunny. While Roberta didn't want to admit it, she missed Sunny. It was strange not having her around. The first four nights wasn't bad but after the fifth night; that's when she got lonely. She was used to silence but not like this. Roberta drags herself out of bed and stretches her limbs. It felt good to stretch. She grabbed a towel and headed for the shower.
As the hot water and soap poured throughout her body, Roberta couldn't help but remember their phone conversation a couple of days before. While she wasn't as street smart as Sunny was, Roberta could sense something in her voice. Like something troubled her. She did say that she was lonely, Roberta thought maybe she was homesick. It wasn't unheard to be homesick; except this was different. Sunny seemed like she wanted to tell her what was on her mind but she held back whatever was bothering her. As she turned the water off Roberta wrapped her body and hair with towels, she gently stepped out. Regardless it was still good to hear her voice.
As she curled her hair Roberta started to think about the future she dreamed of. Her and Sunny getting married. Walking down the aisle in a beautiful dress. Cutting the cake. A honeymoon. And above else, kids. It made Roberta think a lot about what she wanted for a life with the person who swept her off her feet. She dressed in her managerial attire of a black skirt and a pink short sleeved shirt. She looks for her keys. The one thing about keys is that their annoying to loose as well as finding them. Then it hit her, the drawer next to her side of the bed.
Roberta opened the drawer and found her. But also found the gun that Sunny had left for her.
She carefully wrapped her hand around the handle of the revolver. It felt cold to the touch. Roberta felt uncomfortable holding it. She sat on the bed and looked at it. Sunny said it was for protection; it sent chills through her body. Roberta had seen guns but never held one before. The idea of Sunny giving her a gun for protection was a lot for her to take in. One of the first things that Roberta did when it was handed to her was open the eight bullet cylinder. It was loaded.
Sunny said that she would teach her on how to use this weapon. She was strong, stronger than anyone out there. It worried Roberta a lot that her love gave her a gun. It wasn't like she was crazy but it made Roberta feel concerned. She carefully put the cylinder back in and put the revolver away. Roberta put her shoes on and exited the room.
She didn't want to think about that thing.
After coming back from work Roberta sat by the pool and kept on imagining that life together with her. She sighed because it's something that wants. A family. The woman of her heart being her wife. The sun already sets and it starts to get chilly. Roberta headed inside.
Just like before she dreamed that dream again.
The following day
Roberta looked around for potential club locations. She decided to keep busy by looking for a location that could draw club goers. It was hard though, between the bums and the hipsters, she didn't know what was worse. Roberta tried at certain areas. Vespucci Beach was the first obvious choice, it was good at first and the price was reasonable. But the weed shops made it impossible to rake in money. Even though she wasn't against weed Roberta didn't like the idea of people smoking pot in the club; let alone selling it in the establishment. So on to the next one.
The next location was near Davis. While it was a potential place for a club, the smell of acidic piss and crap from the local homeless encampment didn't seem to help either. Then came the many drug spots in the surrounding areas, which posed a big issue especially if a shootout were to break out; which of course would cause a panic.
The third location, was well one way to put it, quite not up with the current safety regulations. And potentially could cause a rather large lawsuit on their hands if that were to happen. So that's a no.
Fourth location was a big no. Too close to those oil derelicts. Plus who wants a bunch of buzzed patrons wandering how those things work? Off the list definitely.
Fifth location was a bigger sell. Backlot City, right near the movie studios. Which is perfect in every way possible. Roberta managed to call the property owner and asked to open the place up. After opening up the property Roberta got a full view of the space. A lower part with the bar sticking out at the far right end. The whole place was dusty as it was never used. The ideas started to flow through brain almost like a typewriter. She noticed the stairs to the upper platform and walked up the spiral staircase. She looked at the whole upper level. Parts of it felt rickety, so a definite yes for construction. And I lot of cleaning, plus bug spraying and finding potential employees. Also a few good bartenders, along with some waitresses and a DJ to top things off. It was footing the bill for maintenance and other renovations that would top the list. Of course Roberta was going to have her club (Sunny did promise her), she was wondering if she should wait til she came or if she do it on her own.
For the moment she can't decide right now. She signaled the property owner and when asked if she was going to buy it "Well I have an interest in it but I need to consult my business partner first, when she comes back of course".
With that being said Roberta left the soon to be club. She turned around and took out her phone out. She was going to share this moment.
She snapped a picture and sent it to Sunny.
'I found a potential spot for our club; what do u think?'
Just for a moment she didn't get a response until 'It looks great =D How much?' 'Well I haven't asked for the price yet but I'm going to try to haggle and while I'm doing that, I'm going to try and have someone do some renovations'
'We also got to look for things cooks, bartenders, security etc. I was hoping for you to come back when with whatever it is that you're doing is done, so we can do this together ;D' 'It's going to be a while before I can come back but...' Sunny hints 'you could access some of the money and start renovation!'. Roberta squealed with joy. 'Alright! =D 3 I'll keep you in the loop, coming up with the name will probably take some time but we'll come up with it together =p'.
'Okay! Don't work yourself too hard =)' and with that Roberta got her loves support 'Talk to you later ;-)'.
Roberta jumped with excitement. Her dream was slowly starting to take shape. The rest of that dream was going to eventually come later on, but the time being; she's going to bask in this moment.
And now, to scour the internet for the best contractors.
...
Sunny looked at the picture of the site where Roberta wants as her nightclub. It was impressive and it looked like it could potentially draw in money. With the whole situation involving Linda being taken by crooked cops she totally forgot about the whole thing with the club. It was nice to hear some good news for a change. "Earth to Sunny" Chelsea calls her name "Hmm?" she looked up at her "Our guns are here". She had totally forgotten about the guns that she had ordered from Arnold. Chelsea brings the box over.
"Okay, let's see what we got" she searched the box "One HK-417" "I'll take that" Sunny chose her weapon "One AR-18, that's mine" Chelsea claimed her weapon of choice "And that leaves this Striker shotgun for Geraldine" she leaves the shotgun for Geraldine. "I remember..." Sunny looked around and found three bulletproof vest "Here we go and...yeah three titanium plates, perfect".
"We're still going to need disguises and those masks, Geraldine said she would get the truck and that leaves the spike strips; think anyone of us could get them" Sunny suggest "Well whatever works, at least we're not dressed as cheerleaders" Chelsea amused to herself "Yeah, I think our tattoos would be a dead give away" Sunny sarcastically remarked "I was just kidding, I'll see what I can get".
Sunny took her phone and flips through her pictures.
She scrolled the many pictures of her and Roberta. She smiled because she was the brightest spot of her life. From fun loving to the down right silly, it made her miss her even more. Sunny sighed. She wanted more in life more than ever. She didn't want it to be death and destruction anymore; it getting to it's limit. A part of her now realized now that all she wanted in life was to be loved and have a normal life. A frown came upon her face. Even if she did want that now; she would have to fight for it. And the thing about fighting; it isn't easy. Especially when this was all she knew. It would be nice to get into a different trade for once.
"Whatcha looking at?" Chelsea peered at her "Oh, your girlfriend" "Yeah, we have a special project going on" she put her phone away "What kind of project?" "A nightclub".
"Oh can I be your first guest?" "Uh, sure, she probably would give me guff if I don't invite you".
They grabbed the weapons. They're off to a more or less good start for this job.
...
Geraldine looked around for a truck; it took forever though. In theory it could be any truck but to her it had to be perfectly running. Being in this part of the state made her feel like a fish out of water.
It was a place where the lost literally lost and never want to be found. The hot sand and desert heat made it unbearable driving-let alone walking around impossible. She didn't know how the people did it here. The people here were friendly, more or less, just not as helpful bunch. It was difficult to navigate somewhere that looked endless. Geraldine saw trailers and trailers, along with a few coyotes roaming around the place. When Tiger wanted to go out she always had to watch out for any coyotes roaming around. She didn't take any chances.
Her eyes catch a purple rig cruising by. Perfect she thought.
Geraldine quickly hot wired a pick up that no one was using at that time.
She followed closely behind, trying not to alert the trucker. After a moment the truck eventually stopped. The trucker got to try use the bathroom, only to find out that it was occupied. Ever the more resourceful Geraldine parked the pick up. The trucker decided to take his chance and decided to relieve himself against a dumpster. He grumbled as he drained his lizard. Geraldine carefully snuck behind him. Her fist strikes him across the side of his head. He went down on the concrete. Geraldine went through his pockets and found the keys. "Shit that was easy" she quietly remarked.
Geraldine quickly sprinted to the truck and started it up.
She drove away as fast as possible. It took over fifteen minutes to find a hiding spot. Geraldine manages to find a spot behind a build board. She gets out and pulls her phone "Sunny, girl, I got that truck that you were looking" "Good job. listen I got the weapons. We're just going to need the outfits, that tripped out van, messing with that cop car and those spikes".
"Right" she hangs up.
Geraldine called a cab and decided to head back to her hotel. Right now she wants to get out of the heat and at least when a moment to relax for a moment.
