Person: RWBY Optical
Chapter 5
A Start to a New Age
?: Looks like the fates have finally aligned. Welcome to the Velvet Room.
Was the first thing Oak heard when he opened his eyes.
His vision was blurry, adjusting to the light. He can kinda make out a man sitting at a deal in front of him.
?: You may feel a little woozy, but soon you'll be able to adjust.
As he said that Oak's vision slowly became clear as he can now make out the person in front of you. He looked like a bizarre old man with a long nose, pointed ears and bulging, and bloodshot eyes.
?: Finally adjusted have we. Good.
Oak: Where… where am I?
?: Your questions will be answered soon enough, but first I'm Igor… I am delighted to meet your acquaintance.
Uh–Oh uh I understand Pop
Oak looked around his surroundings seeing that he was in a classroom. The walls were painted a tint of purple while the velvet carpet laid upon the floor. The only thing that wasn't purple was Igor's desk and his desk he was sitting in.
Oak: What is this place?
Igor: This place is a world between dream and reality, matter and mind… it's only available to the people who are bound to the 'contract'.
Oak was confused. What is this 'contract' this guy is talking about?
Oak: Well why am I here?
Igor: Well my dear boy, fate has finally come down to you and now it's finally has set up on you.
Igor chuckled to himself as he folded his hand over.
Igor: I almost forgot, what is your new dear boy?
Oak: My name's Oak Woods.
Igor: Oak Woods! I see! Mr. Woods, can I ask a question?
Oak nods his head thinking he could trust the strange man. Igor pulls out a pack of tarot cards and spreads a few on the desk.
Igor: Do you believe in fortune telling?
Oak had a weird feeling, never really thinking of that answer in his life on Remnant.
Oak: No, not on the most part. What's with this whole fortune telling business?
Igor chuckled and wanted more, shuffling cards in his hands.
Igor: The cards can predict any possibility that can happen. Fate aligns with the cards that show you onto your past.
He flips one of the cards showing off walking with a sack on his back. A zero was placed onto the top of the card.
Igor: The fool arcana, someone that has purpose, but chooses to go and find their own. They're entitled to the wild card which means they could accomplish good things in life.
Oak felt a weird sensation when he caught sight of the card. He didn't understand the feeling, but it's like the card draws a strange aura.
Igor then turned the next card showing someone holding two scales with complete balance.
Igor: The Justice Arcana shows a balance between forces of life. Equality between all and perfect chaos between the others.
Igor then turned the final card showing a leaning towards it that looked like it was on the brink of collapse. Someone could be seen falling from the roof of the tower.
Igor: And the final card, the Tower Arcana. The card of destruction and chaos which your world is plagued with.
Oak held his head in hands. His mind was running with questions that he had.
Oak: What does this have to do with me? Why am I here?
Igor: You're here because fate has chosen you so the assignment is needed for you to pass.
The kid was confused on what assignment he was talking about. When he was thin the door to the classroom opened and clicking of heels can be heard coming inside.
?: Sorry I'm late. I had to deal with some papers.
Oak looks up towards the woman who just entered the classroom. She placed some kind of book onto Igor's desk and turned to him, waving her hair out of her giving Oak a good look at her.
She had platinum blond hair in the form of waves stretched to her shoulders. She had velvet glasses that covered her yellow eyes. Her clothes are of a typical teacher, being a white collared shirt under a purple vest, which was buttoned up. Finished off with a pencil skirt, leggings and heels.
Igor: Seems I almost forgot to introduce you to someone. This is my assistant in this world. Meet Delilah.
Delilah gave Oak a small smile extending a hand to him.
Delilah: It's great to finally meet you Mr. Woods.
Her voice was soothing to him. It was almost kinda like his mother's voice to him. He grabs her hand giving a smile towards her.
Oak: It's great to meet you Ms.
Delilah: Same to you. I am here to teach you and guide you through your journey. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
She giggled to herself and walked to another desk to the side of the room and in the chair.
Igor: It looks like times are already up.
Oak: Wait, I still have more questions to ask! What is this chaos? Is it the Grimm? What part do I have a play in this? Why—
Igor raised a hand, getting him to shut up and let him answer.
Igor: The answer will soon be revealed, but for now you must return to your world.
Oak sighs as he nods his head. He wanted some answers from him, but his vision was then surrounded by darkness.
The sun was shining from Oak's window. The light hit onto his eyes and his eyes snapped open. He slowly sat up from his bed rubbing his head.
Oak: That dream…
He then heard his Mom calling out to him from downstairs.
Pine: Oak, breakfast is waiting! Remember your pancakes are mine.
Oak shook his head with a smile. His Mom can act younger than him sometimes.
He got up from his bed when he suddenly stopped, seeing something on his desk. It was a letter with his name on it 'For Oak Woods'.
He grabbed it and ripped it open. Inside it held a letter, which upon reading said.
"Come back anytime you need and let fate guide you on your path"
Signed, Ms. Delilah
He looked back into the envelope and pulled out a lavender key with a butter as the handle. It glistened in sunlight, shining bright like a diamond.
That's when he heard Birch coming from outside his door.
Birch: Oak, your mother said to come down. Are you awake?
He then heard the knob turning and he quickly put the key back in the envelope and into his drawer with Turn-Up. Birch entered his room and saw Oak close his drawer.
Oak: Hey, Dad. I'll be down in a minute, just gotta change.
Birch:...Just make sure you're proper. You have school.
Birch leaves the room giving Oak a chance to take a breath of relief. He looked back into his drawer and looked at the letter.
Igor: Well my dear boy, fate has finally come down to you and now it's finally has set up on you.
Oak: My fate…
He looked up towards his Beacon Academy poster.
Pine: Do you want your food or not, boy?!
Oak: Coming!
He quickly changed into his school uniform and exited his room, not before closing his drawer.
A year later, it was night time in Vale, people were out wandering the night streets without a care in the world. It was quite peaceful, but not everything lasts forever.
Coming down the road was the king of crime himself, Roman Torchchwick. He and his band of goons walked past people, who cowered in fear of the infamous man in front of them.
He didn't pay them any mind, coming for one thing only. Arriving at a store called 'From Dust Till Dawn'. Roman smiled walking towards the building with his goons in right behind.
Entering into the store the shop owner gives a small greeting which they all ignored. They looked around the establishment seeing all the dust lined up. Roman walked up to the counter.
Roman: Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a dust shop open this late.
One of the goons pulled a gun on the man which he immediately raised his hands in the air.
Shop Owner: Please! Just take my Lien and leave.
Roman quickly shushed him to keep him calm.
Roman: Calm down. We're not here for your money.
He ordered his goons to grab the dust. They take out some dust canisters from a case and use them to take the dust from the tubes, filling them up to the top.
Roman then slid another case for the crystal dust which the man sadly complied not wanting any trouble with the criminal.
One of the goons was taking some dust from the tubes when he heard music coming from the back of the store. He looked over to see a girl in a red hood looking at some records.
He had a sword and pointed it at the girl.
Goon: Alright kid. Put your hands where I can see em'.
The girl didn't pay him any attention due to her music being too loud. She scowled as walked towards her.
Goon: Hey, I said put your hand in the air! You got a death wish or something?
He walked over to her and turned her sound, her hood falling off her head revealing that she had headphones in. This is Ruby Rose.
Her silver eyes looked towards the man who motions for her to take the headphones off which she does so.
Ruby: Yes?
Goon: I said put your hands in the air! Now!
Ruby: Are you… robbing me?
Goon: Yes!
Ruby: Ooohhh…
Roman was seen waiting at the counter, waiting for his men to finish the heist when one of them came flying past him. He calmly looks behind him before calmly motioning for someone else to go deal with her.
A goon runs up to Ruby and points a gun at her.
Goon: Freeze!
From outside the store, Ruby kicked the man through the glass. The other goons look outside to see her unfolding a scythe-like weapon called Crescent Rose. Roman scowled at the girl, but Ruby gave a mocking grin. She twirls the weapon towards him and strikes it to the ground.
Roman: Okkay….
He turns to his other goons.
Roman: Get her.
They all ran outside and ran at her. One of them slashed at her, but she dodged by spinning around on her scythe and kicked in the face. She gets Crescent Rose out of the ground and fires it off to hit another one with the butt of her weapon, sending him flying. She fired again, spamming it down onto another victim.
Another goon tried firing at her, but using the gun fire from her scythe she weaved through the flying bullets. She got close enough to knock him into the air and follow him upwards so she could beat him away down the block of the street.
Roman looked at the man while he was flying through the air.
Roman: You were worth every cent. Truly you were.
He takes his cigar out of his mouth and crushed it with his cane. Sirens can be heard quickly approaching their location.
Roman: Well, Red, I think we can all say it's been an eventful evening, and as much as I'd love to stick around…
He then points his cane at her, the bottom of it opens up to a rifle and crassair.
Roman: …I'm afraid this is where we part ways.
He fired a combust shot at her which she quickly uses Crescent Rose to leap over the explosion that hit the ground.
When landing back onto the ground, she looked around to see that Roman was nowhere to be found. She looked behind her to see Roman climbing up a roof to the ladder.
She looked over to the shop owner as she came out of his store.
Ruby: You ok if I go after him?
He nodded and she ran after the red headed criminal.
Meanwhile, a block away, someone was coming out of the store with groceries in hand. This was Oak, now sixteen years of age.
Oak: Ok, got the groceries Mom asked for and now to return home for that good carrot stew.
He started walking down the street when he then heard yelling coming from above him.
Oak: Huh?
He looked up to see the goon fr above come crashing down to his feet, letting a groan of pain escape from his mouth. Oak looked down at the man with confusion.
Oak: Uh…are you ok? Took a really big fall there.
The goons responded with another groan. Oak cringed when he suddenly heard an explosion from around the corner.
Oak: What was that?!
He stepped over the man and ran around the corner to see a fire in front of the shop. He looked around to see both Ruby and Roman running along the roof, Ruby trying to keep him from running.
Oak looked over to the From Dust Till Dawn Over as he was looking over the wreckage of his store.
Oak: Was there a robbery here?
The store owner nods. Oak looks over to Ruby and sees that Roman has gotten into a Bullhead. He turns to the shop owner and gives him his groceries.
Oak: Take care of those for me, thank you.
He takes Turn-Up out turn up and boosts himself up to the roof. Two rockets are fired at Ruby before Oak jumps in front of her and absorbs the energy of the explosion.
Oak: Is he the bad guy?
Ruby: Yeah.
Oak: Cool.
He let out a shockwave from his hand making the Bullhead loose course a little. Roman scowled at the boy as Oak cocked his Tonfas.
Roman: Is every child out this late at night?
Oak: I was just getting groceries, saw you fighting her, came to help to kick your butt.
Oak plants Turn-Up to ground and fired off to sky, towards the Bullhead. Roman rolls his eyes as he brings out his cane.
Roman: You kids are so predictable.
When Oak got close he jabbed the pointed end of the Tonfa, but Roman blocked it with his cane. He kicked Oak into the gut sending him flying off the Bullhead and pointed his cane at him, shooting him back into the roof.
Oak landed at Ruby's feet and groaned in pain. Ruby bent down to him, checking if he had any injuries.
Ruby: Are you ok?!
Oak: If you're saying getting shot point blank in the chest while tumbling onto a hard roof is ok. Then yes.
Ruby picked him up as the Bullhead hovered over them as Roman looked down on them.
Roman: Looks like it's the end of the line Red and Green!
He tossed a red dust crystal at their feet.
Oak: Get down!
Oak quickly covers Ruby as Roman fires a shot at the crystal making it explode, but when it explodes someone comes down from the sky and takes the blast. Oak and Ruby look up to see a blonde woman who casted a protection spell to keep them from the blast. This was Glynda Goodwhitch.
Glynda waves her weapon and summons several streaks of purple at the craft. Roman is thrown around in the back until he goes to the cockpit, where a woman in red, her face unseen, is struggling with the controls
Roman: We got a Huntress!
The woman gets up and heads toward the back as Roman takes the controls.
Glynda glows purple for a moment and aims another blast above the craft, resulting in a dark storm-cloud right over the jet.
Roman: The hell…?
With a flick of wrist, ice shards came down on the Bullhead. Piercing it hard shell, even almost hit Roman in the head if he didn't move last second.
The woman reaches the back of the Bullhead. Her chest and arms lit on fire, firing off a burst of fire at Glynda. She quickly blocks it with a protection shield, but didn't notice the fire splatting on the floor.
The enemy raises her hand and Glynda notices how the ground lights up under her. She quickly back-flips to Ruby and Oak's side, out of the explosion, which destroys part of the roof.
She magically gathers the shards to create a large arrow, which she throws at the craft. The fiery woman shatters the arrow with several blasts, but it reforms just in time to hit the side of the jet due to Roman's quick aerial lean. The wreckage separates and reshapes into more arrows that encircle the jet, but the woman summons several glowing rings around herself that expand and destroy the shards.
Ruby transformed Crescent Rose into rifle mode and shot at the woman who blocked all her attacks with her hands.
Oak attacked both ends of Turn-Up together changing into its gun mode. He rapidly fired at the woman, but she casted a flame wall in front of her, blocking each bullet that came her way.
Oak's clip ran out causing him to quickly reload, reconstructing them back into Tonfa mode and sticked them back into their containers.
The roof of the building heated up under their feet, Glynda quickly pushed them out of the way as the roof exploded behind them. She looked up to see the Bullhead flying away into the distance.
She glared towards Oak and Ruby, the two getting back up off the ground. Oak noticed her glare and nervously scratched his head.
Oak: Hey…at least we almost got them–
Ruby cut him off, jumping in front of him smiling wildly.
Ruby: Can I have your autograph?!
That smile didn't last long as both Ruby and Oak were sitting in an office while Glynda walked around them, tablet in hand.
Glynda: I hope that you realize that your actions tonight will not be taken lightly, you two. You put yourselves and others in great danger.
Oak: Well I was just buying groceries which are still with the man and I think my parents are kinda worried right now, so if I could–
Glynda interrupted him by slamming her riding crop on the desk in front of him.
Glynda: Quite.
Oak: Sorry ma'am!
Glynda sighed to herself as she walked around the table.
Glynda: If it were to me, you'd be sent home with a pat on the back…
Ruby and Oak smiled.
Glynda: …And a slap on the wrist.
She demonstrates with her riding crop, which Ruby barely avoids as she gives out a "Eeek"!
Ruby/Oak: Noted…
Glynda: But... There is someone here who would like to meet you.
She moves out of the way to reveal a man with white hair standing behind her. He held a mug and plate of cookies in each hand. This was Professor Ozpin.
Oak's eyes bulged out, looking like they could come out of his skull at any minute.
Oak: Your Professor Ozpin! The headmaster of Beacon Academy!
Ozpin: Ah, it seems that I am known. You must be Oak Woods.
Oak looked flabbergasted that he knew his name.
Oak: You know me?
Ozpin: Yes, your records do say some interesting stuff about you.
Oak: Oh…
He bent his head down thinking that Ozpin actually knew him.
Ozpin then looked towards Ruby and noticed the color of her eyes.
Ozpin: And Ruby Rose… you have silver eyes.
Ruby: Umm…
Ozpin didn't continue forward which quite confused the two teens in front of him.
Glynda held a tablet of when Ruby fought off the goons. It then switches to Oak absorbing the energy of the explosion and clashing with Roman.
Ozpin: So! Where did you learn to do this?
Ruby: S-Signal Academy.
Ozpin: They taught you to use one of the most dangerous weapons ever designed?
Ruby: Well, one teacher in particular.
Ozpin: I see…
He turned to Oak.
Ozpin: And what about you, young man.
Oak: I-I'm self taught, sir.
Ozpin: You learned how to do this?
He pointed towards Oak and Roman fighting, which in fact wasn't really a fight, but Oak just throwing a few punches. Oak nods his head.
Ozpin: Hm.
He puts the cookies on the table which instantly caught Ruby's attention. Oak took one cookie while Ruby started rapidly chowing down on.
Ozpin: Lady Rose, I've only seen one other scythe-wielder of that skill before. A dusty, old crow…
Ruby: Oh! That's my uncle!
She swallowed the rest of the cookies. Oak looked at her impressed.
Oak: Your uncle taught you how to do cool maneuvers with that! That's awesome!
Ruby smiles as she shoves another cookie in her mouth.
Ruby: Uncle Qrow is amazing! He's a teacher at Signal. I was complete garbage before he took me under his wing. And now, I'm all like— Hooowaaah! Witchaaaa!
She did some karate-like poses as Oak laughed a little.
Oak: Man, I wish I went to Signal. I might actually learn something more than what's in a book.
This gained Ozpin interest a little.
Ozpin: What school do you go to if I may ask Young Woods?
Oak: Oh just a normal school, Timber Academy. I learned everything from the school library from the combat books they have.
Ozpin: Interesting. Now, what is an adorable girl and someone from a non combatant school doing at a school designed to train warriors?
Ruby: Well... I want to be a Huntress.
Oak: I also want to be a Hunter.
Ozpin: You want to slay monsters?
Ruby: Yeah! I only have two more years of training left at Signal! And then I'm going to apply to Beacon!
She then started to talk faster and faster with her enthusiasm growing. Oak jumped in his seat as the girl kept on rambling on how she wanted to be a Hunter, and how she wanted to help people.
When she finally calmed down as she panted in exhaustion from talking so fast. Ozpin nodded his head then turned to Oak.
Oak: Oh, um… well I want to become a hunter because I want to go see the world. I've been in my village all my life and only got to actually go there around two years ago.
Ozpin nodded as he drank from his mug.
Ozpin: An understandable desire. You two want to come to my school?
Oak: Absolutely!
Ruby: More than anything.
He exchanged glances with Glynda, who shows her disapproval with an eyes and 'Hmph'.
Ozpin: Well, ok.
Both Ruby and Oak's mouths dropped.
Oak: What the fu–
Oak was back at home, packing his bags. He was talking to himself as he put his clothes in his suitcase.
Oak: Ok, Oak. You're about to go to your dream school which you somehow got into even though you're not a part of any combatant school.
He slaps himself in the face when he starts to doubt himself.
Oak: Get in the game, Oak! You're gonna go there and be the best Hunter you can be!
He then heard someone knock onto his door, turned around to see Pine leaning on the doorway causing him to quickly try to hide his suitcase by covering it with his covers and sitting on top of it.
Oak: H-Hey, Mom. W-What's up?
Pine looked between Oak and the suitcase he was sitting on. She walked inside his room and went over to his drawer.
Oak: Mom?
She opens it and brings out his Tonfas. Oak eyes widen as she walks over to him with them.
Oak: I-I can explain.
She kept direct eye contact as she put the Tonfas into their containers. She kissed Oak on the forehead and gave him a smile.
Pine: I'll distract him while you sneak out.
A smile slowly came onto Oak's face as hugged her close. He grabs his bag and leaped out the window landing on the ground. He then sprinted towards where the Bullhead was supposed to be, whooping wildly as he went.
Now on the Bullhead, Oak was sitting around on. Butterflies were flying in his stomach just thinking about going to the academy. He looked at the as it talked about Roman and the White Fang.
Oak: Man, wonder what happened to them anyway.
?: I don't know, but I know what's going to happen to me.
Oak looked beside him and right next to him was a blonde head boy who looked green in the face. This was Jaune Arc.
Oak: Dude, are you ok?
Jaune: No, not really. Stomach's been like this ever since we took off.
He covers his mouth trying to keep his lunch in.
Oak: Well I don't think the rides are gonna be that long…hopefully. Name's Oak, Oak Woods.
He holds out a hand, Jaune weakly grabs hold of his hand.
Jaune: Jaune…Arc. N-Nice to meet you.
The news feed cuts off before a projection of Glynda appears in its stead.
Glynda: Hello, and welcome to Beacon! You are among a privileged few who have received the honor of being selected to attend this prestigious academy! Our world is experiencing an incredible time of peace, and as future Huntsmen and Huntresses, it is your duty to uphold it. You have demonstrated the courage needed for such a task, and now it is our turn to provide you with the knowledge and the training to protect our world.
The hologram disappears. Oak looked out the window, seeing all of Vale. He laughs a little seeing that it's his first time ever flying in a Bullhead.
Oak: This is where I'm gonna find my place, Jaune. Beacon Academy, rise to the top! Wahoo!
He looked around for Jaune, but didn't see him. He heard a gurgling sound and looked down to see Jaune on the floor puking his stomach out.
Oak: Oh come on Jaune! These are new shoes too!
His journey has finally begun.
The End
Speed: Oh god this took forever and it's only eleven minutes! Ugh, whatever. Oak has now entered the velvet room and learned a little bit from what's to come. He also has met Ruby and the infamous criminal Roman. They're both gonna see them again, some more than others. And Jaune, he also met Jaune. Now to preview, by your main man Oak Woods' and Ruby Rose!
Oak: Woah, Beacon looks so cool! I can't wait to see all the new things around here!
Ruby: Yeah, even if some of the people are…pretty weird. I still think it's gonna be awesome here.
Oak: Get ready guys for…
The Shining Beacon!
Later Speedsters!
