Persona RWBY Optical
Chapter 6
The Shining Beacon!
In the horizon, the school of beacon sat upon a cliff as several bullheads holding potential new warriors docked at entrance.
People exited the aircraft, but coming running off was the blonde headed fellow, Jaune. He felt nauseous the whole trip and couldn't hold it in any longer. Running towards the nearest trash can, he puked his breakfast and lunch out of his body.
The next person coming out was our future huntsman, Oak Woods. He was rubbing puke off his shoes, trying to get the stench out as much as possible.
Oak: Next time can you puke somewhere that's not my new shoes. My Mom gave me these.
He put them back on while Jaune finished puking his guts out.
Jaune: Sorry about that… I had never been flying before and my stomach didn't really agree with me.
He held his stomach, still feeling a bit of burn. Oak patted him on the back, reassuring him.
Oak: Hey, we have our moments buddy. Now harm, no foul!
Jaune gave a slight smile towards the shorter and slightly younger boy. They both walked down the ship's bridge towards the campus of the school. Looking around, it felt almost unreal to Oak.
Oak: I made it… I think I'm gonna faint on the spot on how amazed I am. Am I dreaming? Jaune! Pinch me!
Jaune pinched his shoulder making him yelp in pain. Rubbing the ache away, he realized he wasn't dreaming.
Oak: This the best day of my life!
Jaune: It's certainly unimaginable alright. Something like this must come from… the best of the best…
Jaune looked slightly down, he seemed to be in his own head. He was snapped out by Oak voice calling him.
Oak: Hey, Jaune. You ok, man?
Jaune: Y-Yeah! Just a little nervous, that's all.
Oak: Well no need to be nervous, we only have orientation. The real stuff happens tomorrow, that's where we show our stuff!
Jaune: Yeah, yeah you're right! Just gotta keep moving forward.
As the boys kept talking, a pair of orange eyes laid upon them, a smile slowly spread across her face. Seeing two boys being pumped up was a breath of fresh air, but can't really say the same for herself.
Captain: Remember, Trix. We're only giving you this one chance since you got off with good behavior, but one slip up, just one false move! You're going into the deepest hole I can find and never coming back out! Do you understand?
Trix rolled her eyes. Ever since she turned herself in, the Captain has been keeping an eagle on her and been very strict.
Trix: Yeah, yeah. You don't have to yell in my ear for the bajillionth time, old man. I know the rules. Now…
She then made a motion towards hee cuffed hands.
Trix: …can you please get these handcuffs off? Been wearing them the whole trip.
Captain: No, not until we get done with orientation.
Trix: But that's going to take hours!
The captain ignored her complaining as he dragged her to the doors of Beacon.
The boys stared from a distance as the two walked towards the school. They didn't hear anything that came from their mouths.
Oak: They must have a good father, daughter relationship if they talk like that to each other.
Jaune: Yeah, it seems like it.
They were going to walk towards the school, but when an explosion happened it caught their immediate attention.
???: Unbelievable?! This is exactly the thing I was talking about!
Just only a few meters away, a white girl was yelling, covered in soot. Who she was yelling at actually made Oaks eyes widen.
Oak: It's that red hood girl!
Jaune: You know her?
Oak gave a slight shrug.
Oak: Not particularly. We met when we were trying to stop a bank robbery against some redhead, bowl cap looking guy. You must've seen him on the news or something, but we were saved by a huntress, but the criminals got away by someone who was able to conjure fire.
To Oak, that was just a simple explanation about something that went on about a week ago. To Jaune, he could only hear dial up sounds in his head.
Jaune: I'm sorry, what?
Oak shrugged it off, listening in on the two's whole escapade.
Ruby: I'm really, really sorry!
Weiss: You dolt! What are you even doing here? Aren't you a little young to be attending a beacon?
Ruby stumbled over her word trying to explain to Weiss, but just got cut off.
Weiss: We're here to fight monsters, so watch where you're going!
Ruby finally had enough with how Weiss is treating her with a quick comeback.
Ruby: I said I was sorry princess!
???: It's heiress, actually.
A black haired girl with a bow centered on top of her head decided to walk into frame explaining Weiss' heir to the Schnee company.
???: Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company. One of the largest producers of energy propellant in the world.
Weiss smiles, finally having someone who actually knows her family's legacy.
Weiss: Finally, some recognition!
???: The same company infamous for its controversial labor forces and questionable business partners.
Having a back hand check on her, Weiss' anger flared up again.
Weiss: Wha- How dare- The nerve of... Ugh!
They didn't notice that someone gathered up the dust containers that were scattered from the explosion and put them back into the cases. Looking up towards Weiss, Wiverly Schnee called out to her sister.
Wiverly: Weiss. Orientation will soon begin. We do not want to be late.
Looking towards her younger sister, Weiss sighs angrily. She gets into Blake's face, scowling and takes a bottle of fire dust from her. She gives it to Wiverly, putting it back into the case.
Weiss: Let's go Wiverly, we don't have time for these dolts.
Weiss saunters off towards the school, having Wiverly take a bow towards the two girls for her sister.
Wiverly: I am sincerely sorry for my big sister's ill behavior. She is very stressed today and as the heiress of the Schnee Dust Company has a lot on her mind. I shall bid you a good day.
She took a final curtsey to the girls then walked away, following behind her sister towards the school.
Ruby didn't feel too good about making Weiss this mad, feeling like she made a bad impression on the first day.
Ruby: I'm sorry! I'll make this up to you!
From a distance, you could only hear a soft scoff as the younger Schnee caught up to her. Weiss grabbed her little sister's hand, guiding themselves to the doors of Beacon.
Ruby held her head low, grimacing in her other failure.
Ruby: Guess I'm not the only one having a rough first day… So what's up…
Turning around, all she sees is the black haired girl walking into the distance of the school. She looked to be returning back to some book and had ignored what Ruby had to say.
Ruby, now left alone, legs decided to give out of sadness. Flopping onto her back, not feeling any motivation to move.
Ruby: Welcome to Beacon…
She remained motionless on the ground when two shadows casted down onto her.
???: Hey, red. You know the ground isn't the best place to sleep, right?
Opening her eyes, they beamed onto Oak and Jaune. Oak had his hand out to pick her back up on her feet.
Ruby: You're that boy from a few weeks ago, right? Oak was your name?
Oak nodded.
Oak: Yup, that's me. This guy over here is Jaune. We just met.
Jaune held his hand out for a handshake giving a small nod.
Jaune: Nice to meet you.
Ruby kindly takes his hand and he brings her back to her feet. She looked at the guy, recognizing him from the ship and snickered.
Ruby: Aren't you the guy who threw up on the ship?
The three were then walking down the courtyard, making some small talk as they walked past the fountain. Beacon had a really good archetype for people to see with winding paths to enjoy a nice walk.
Jaune was ranting on how motion sickness while the other two listened.
Jaune: I'm just saying that motion sickness is a much more common problem than people let on.
Ruby: Look, I'm sorry, but vomit boy was the first thing that came to mind.
Oak: And it actually fits since you can't aim.
Jaune: You're still mad about the shoes?
Oak: They were new! It took me the whole trip to get the stains out!
Jaune: Yeah, then what about Crater Face and Timber Head.
Ruby: Hey, that explosion was an accident!
Oak: Where did Timber Head come from?
Jaune: Your whole name basically means an oak tree.
Oak raised a finger, but then lowered it after a second of thinking about it.
Jaune: Well the name's Jaune Arc! Short, sweet, rolls off the tongue. Ladies love it.
Ruby and Oak look skeptical if they would actually.
Ruby: Do they?
Jaune: They will! Well, I-I hope they will. My mom always says that... Never mind.
Oak: Hey, it's like what my mom says "There's always a leaf to be picked."
Ruby: I thought it was "There's plenty of fish in the sea?"
Oak: Different words, same meaning.
The conversation soon dropped to an awkward silence for a moment. Ruby thought to revive it with another one.
Ruby: I got this thing…
She pulls out Crescent Rose and shifts it to scythe form, slamming the sharp end onto the pavement. Jaune jumped up surprised seeing her just pull that out of nowhere.
Jaune: Whoa! Is that scythe?
Ruby: It's also a customizable high-impact sniper rifle.
She transforms it into its sniper form, holding it up in her arms.
Jaune: A-wha…?
Oak: I think it also means it's a gun.
Jaune: Oh. That's cool!
Ruby: So what you two got?
Oak: Oh, I got these!
Moving his jacket back, he pushed onto his belt and came from the holders of his two tonfas. Catching them, he spined them around in his hand a few times.
Oak: These are Turn-Up.
Ruby silver eyes became stars seeing the tonfas in Oak's hands.
Ruby: Whoa! They look so sleek!
Oak: Yeah and I can also stick them together.
He stuck the two ends of Turn-Up together to make it into his semi-auto form.
Oak: They can also become a gun.
Jaune: They look so cool!
Ruby: Is so much better up close. It's so much better than yesterday!
Oak: Thanks, I made them myself.
Jaune: You made them yourself?
Oak: Yup! It took… a lot of books and a few… years to actually get them working properly.
Seeing that he didn't want to go down that rabbit hole, Ruby turned to Jaune.
Ruby: What about you Jaune?
Jaune mumbles as nervously pulls out an old plain sword from the shift from his back. It didn't look too special at the slightest.
Jaune: I got this sword.
Ruby/Oak: Ooohhhh.
Jaune: I also have this shield.
He raised his arm and extended a white and gold shield. It had the design of a doable crest implemented in the middle.
Oak: I really like the design. Pretty sleek with the mixture of white and gold.
Ruby: What do they do?
Ruby touches the shield making it retract and expand as it fumbles around trying to keep it from falling onto the ground. He quickly catches it and finally retracts it.
Jaune: The shield gets smaller, so when I get tired, I could just… put it away.
Ruby: But… wouldn't weigh the same?
Jaune: Yeah, it does…
Jaune, dejectedly lowered his head in shame.
Jaune: Yeah, it does…
Oak pats his back, trying to cheer the guy up.
Oak: Hey, cheer up man! You're probably getting a good arm workout while carrying it.
Ruby: Well, I'm kind of a dork when it comes to weapons, sooo... I guess I did go a little overboard when designing it.
Jaune: Wait! You made that?!
Oak: Not even my school book can be able to teach me how to make this!
Ruby: Of course! All students at Signal forge their own weapons! Didn't you make yours?
Jaune: It's a hand-me-down. My great-great-grandfather used it to fight in the war.
Ruby: Sounds like a family heirloom to me.
Oak: Well the best weapons do come from the best holders.
Ruby agrees, nodding her head.
Ruby: Yeah, no one respects the classics nowadays.
Jaune chuckles, feeling a bit better over their words of encouragement.
Jaune: Yeah… the classics.
Looking around the courtyard, Oak saw that they were walking aimlessly around for a while now.
Oak: Um, guys. Do you know where we are supposed to go?
They all stopped in their tracks, Jaune and Ruby looking around themselves seeing that they don't even know where they are.
Ruby: Matter of effect, where are we supposed to go?
Jaune: I don't know! I was following you two!
Oak checked the brochure that was given to them when walking around the school. Sighting through his eyes go wide, sweat beading down his brow.
Ruby and Jaune didn't like that look. That's a really bad look.
Ruby: Oak… where are we?
Oak: …We're supposed to be at the other side of the school…
A painful silence filled the air only to be crushed by piercing yells. The three went into full on sprints halfway across the school.
Oak: We're not gonna make it! We most definitely can not make it!
Jaune: How were we distracted for that long?!
The three were sprinting through hallways and courtyards. They passed by older students that made some room for them to pass through.
That's when Ruby head lit up with an idea. She grabbed the boy's hands and started sprinting ahead.
Ruby: You boys better hang on tight!
Oak/Jaune: Wait what!
She soon ran forward and they all bursted into red petals. They flew at high speeds through the halls and around corners.
They soon came to the auditorium that was filled with people. The petals swirled to a stop dropping Jaune and Oak to the floor while Ruby landed on her feet with no problem.
Ruby: See! Told you we'd make it!
Oak and Jaune panted. on the floor not knowing what just went on.
Jaune: Ruby… for some reason I just felt ten times lighter and for some reason were at the auditorium in seconds.
Ruby: Well that does happen with my semblance. It makes me go "WHOO!"
Jaune looked confused as Oak got to his feet, dusting a petal off his shoulder.
Oak: That power is definitely useful. We made it just in time before anything is even announced.
Jaune: Well if feeling like a balloon for a second helps us then I'm fine with it.
Ruby and Oak gave a laugh as they all entered the auditorium. Crowds of soon to be students stood waiting for the ceremony to begin. Ruby then heard a familiar voice calling to her in the middle of the crowd.
???: Hey, Ruby! Over here, I saved you a spot!
She was a blonde girl, definitely older than Ruby. She beckoned Ruby over to a seat right beside her.
Ruby: Oh! I have to go! I'll see you guys after the ceremony.
She ran off towards the girl leaving Jaune and Oak behind at the door. Jaune frowned a little seeing her leave them.
Jaune: Aw, man. Where are we supposed to find a nice, quirk girl to complete our trio?
Oak: Hey, we're probably gonna see her again and our trinity will be complete. Maybe after the ceremony. There's probably no one that could replace her.
They walked off not noticing the red headed warrior, Pyrrah, behind them. She was waiting for her brother who came into the auditorium behind her, letting out a yawn.
Phoenix: Flying always made me so tired… Could we just have gotten here by foot or something.
Pyrrha: Well you did almost stay up all night trying to deal with some issues.
Phoenix: Beacon wanted some of my tech, so I'm gonna deliver. Also because I don't want it to be like… last time.
Phoenix's mood shifted, bending down his head in disappointment remembering the component incident. How could he not? He pretty much caused the whole accident to occur.
Pyrrha comforts her brother, putting a hand on his shoulder.
Pyrrha: It's not your fault Phoenix. It was a glitch in the program that you couldn't control. It's all in the past now anyways.
He could only sigh still thinking he could've made a difference. Deciding to shrug it off, he and Pyrrah walked deeper into the crowd of people.
Back with the two boys, they were sitting around waiting for the ceremony to begin. They were chattering about random things that came to mind.
Jaune: Here me out! Tween Titans Go isn't that bad as you think. It has some generally good moments and you have to admit some of the songs are pretty good.
Oak: And what I'm saying it's the pinnacle of mid on the face of Remnant. It's just a half washed version of the original.
???: Well if you think of it as a more separate incarnation. Then maybe it could stand alone on its feet.
They turned around towards Trix who seemed to take interest in their conversation. She scratched her head in embarrassment seeing that she interrupted their convo.
Trix: Sorry for butting it. Just thought I put in my two cents in your whole discussion. I love these types of discussion.
Oak just waved it off.
Oak: It's fine. We've actually been at this for several minutes.
Jaune: Because someone thought that the more comedy oriented show isn't as good as the original.
Oak: Because. It's. Not!
The boys got back to arguing again leaving Trix to sweat dropped at the boys.
After their whole argument ended (still feeling a bit salty) they turned back to Trix as she looked familiar from before.
Oak: You're that girl we saw at the entrance with your dad, right?
Trix tilted her head in confusion. Dad? Since when did she have a dad?
Her head then snapped with the person they were talking about.
Trix: You mean the captain? Oh no, he's not my Dad. Just someone that keeps me out of trouble.
The boys couldn't question further when their attention was grabbed by Ozpin stepping onto stage with Professor Glynda Goodwich by his side.
The crowd grew silent as the headmaster of the school gave his speech to soon to be students.
Ozpin: I'll... keep this brief. You have traveled here today in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose, direction.
Murmurs seemed to fill the room, only a hand raise from Ozpin silent them.
Ozpin: You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step.
He finishes his speech, taking a quick bow before taking his leave.
Following up on the headmaster's speech Glyda takes her spot on the microphone.
Glyda: You will gather in the ballroom tonight; tomorrow, your initiation begins. Be ready. You are dismissed.
Finally everyone in the room moved into their own groups. Oak and Trix looked at the stage seeing both the professor and headmaster leave the auditorium.
Oak: Well that's… something…
Trix: I was kinda expecting a little bit more flair for the biggest academy in vale…. Now I just feel kinda "meh."
Oak: I wouldn't say meh and more of a "eh." How about you, Jaune?
Looking beside him, an outline of Jaune who seemed to have completely disappeared.
Oak: Jaune?
From across the room he spots Jaune speaking to the now familiar white haired heiress. He seemed to be trying to get her attention which only made the girl facepalm.
Not being able to hear anything they were saying, Oak only shrugged just thinking he was talking to her.
Oak: You do you, Jaune.
Trix on the other hand with her faunus hearing, she was able to hear what Jaune was speaking and snickered.
Trix: Yeah, you do you, Jaune.
The students were now getting ready for their first night at Beacon. Everyone was given their own sleeping bags and slept in the auditorium.
Oak was in the bathroom brushing his teeth for the night. Spitting out the paste, he looked into the mirror, checking himself in the mirror.
Oak: Ok, Oak. Tomorrow is a big day for you. Just got to do your best and fight until your muscles hate you. Go big or go home!
With a smile on his face, a feeling of confidence, and a bit of self pride, he turned around to only be met by the redhead inventor brushing his teeth.
Phoenix continued to brush his teeth while Oak froze in place.
Phoenix: Nice speech by the way. Very awe inspiring.
Oak shamefully lowers his head as Phoenix passes by him and spits the paste into the sink.
Oak: You heard everything, did you…
Phoenix: Only a third of it, you were mumbling a few of them.
This only made him groan out of embarrassment. Phoenix chuckled, patting Oak on the shoulder.
Phoenix: It's nothing to be embarrassed about. Sometimes we just need a pep talk to ourselves. No big.
Oak: Well I'm definitely not doing it in a public bathroom. That's for sure.
Laughter emanated from Phoenix's mouth.
Phoenix: I like you, you're funny.
Oak: Thanks, name's Oak Woods.
He held a hand out which Phoenix gladly took.
Phoenix: Phoenix Nikos. You might have heard of my sister.
They walked out the bathroom, the only thing that didn't leave was their reflections from the mirror of the bathroom. The two looked at them, their eyes sending a golden glare at them before disappearing.
Back with the two, they continued their conversation from before, Oak shaking his head of the name not familiar with him.
Oak: Not really. Is she like a famous person or something?
Phoenix: That's actually surprising. She was pretty much the poster girl for future huntsmen.
Oak: So she is famous.
Phoenix: Yes, she's famous.
They stepped past others sleeping in their bags.
Oak: So what are you?
Phoenix pushes up his goggles, light shined on them for dramatic effect.
Phoenix: I'm an inventor! Making my gadgets for the world to use and show my intellect.
The light from his goggles dimmed when he remembered the incident from his last "invention".
Phoenix: But sometimes they can explode in my face and cause trouble…
He sighs.
Phoenix: …Sometimes it just goes haywire…
Oak noticed Phoenix's mood switch. His shoulder sulked and seemed to be a little bit depressed. Nudging him in his arm, he gave him a smile.
Oak: Hey, we make mistakes from time to time. Like when I put pineapple on pizza. Worst decision of my life!
Phoenix's lips shook as he put a hand on his mouth to hold back his laughter.
Phoenix: In my opinion, pineapple isn't that we.
Oak: Whaaaat! No way!
Phoenix: Hey, it's not as bad as people make it out to be. Sometimes you just need something sweet on your pizza to balance out the cheesiness.
Oak: But pineapple is like adding candy onto cheese. They're not good with each other!
???: I like sweets!
Oak and Phoenix turned to Trix, now in pajamas, sitting on her sleeping bag on Oak's own. She stared between the boys as she had jumped into another conversation.
Oak: …You are everywhere.
Trix: I get that a lot.
Phoenix: So you're like a magician or something?
Trix Mmh, more like a trixster!
She laughed at her own joke which almost made Oak laugh. Only one that didn't get wax Phoenix, not knowing of her name yet.
Phoenix: I'm gonna need some context for that joke.
Trix: Oh, yeah, sorry. I'm Trix Nix!
The name felt familiar to Phoenix. Something to do with news and a bank. That's when he put two and two together to make four and finally recognize her.
Phoenix: Wait! Your the trickst–
Trix grabbed him by the shirt and covered his mouth. She puts a finger to her mouth, shushing him.
Trix: I don't go by that name no more! I went clean and decided to join beacon to change my ways.
Oak: So you're a reformed criminal? Why did you stop?
Trix's face seemed to sadden as she let go of Phoenix's mouth.
Trix: Stuff that doesn't really need to be talked about. Just some… disagreement.
Seeing that she was starting to get a little mushy, she shook it off putting on a smile.
Trix: But it's nothing! I'm done with that criminal stuff anyway.
She stands up, putting her hands on her hips and thumb to her confident smile.
Trix: I'm the new me and I'm building to deviate from my past!
From not so far away, a monotone voice made themselves be heard.
???: If you all can please quiet down. You're being too loud.
The voice seemed to guide them a few feet away from them to the third youngest of the Schnee family, Wiverly.
Wiverly: We have initiation tomorrow, so please lower your tones.
The three of them grew embarrassed. They didn't even know that they were being that loud.
Trix: Sorry about that. Didn't even know I was hollerin'.
Wiverly: Just be quiet, you may be wanting to change your criminal way, doesn't mean you should ruin my sleep.
They all awkwardly laughed seeing that they didn't even notice that they were even being loud.
Trix: Sorry about that. Didn't even know I was being that loud. How… much did you hear?
Wilverley: To the point of you wanting from your criminal ways. Yes, I heard everything.
Trix facepalmed, sliding a hand down her face.
Trix: Why do I talk so much…
Trying to get the spotlight off of Trix, Oak tried to revert the convo.
Oak: You're that Schnee girl, right? That one from this afternoon?
Lifting her head slightly to come into eye contact with Oak she nods.
Wiverly: That is correct. After the red hooded girl made an explosion in the courtyard–
Phoenix interrupted her, lifting an eyebrow feeling bewildered.
Phoenix: There was an explosion in the courtyard? When did that happen?
Oak: To make a long story short: She sneezed on some dust and it went boom.
Wiverly: Yes, which also cost us a few of our supplies. As a member of the Schnee Dust Company I'm obligated to say that it would not affect further production of our mass company. If you have any complaints please contact our local human resources.
There were three blinking eyes beaming at Wiverly. The way she spoke felt so… dry to them.
Trix: So… you're a part of some kind of rich family.
Wiverly: Yes. Now if there aren't any more questions. Go to sleep.
Phoenix: Fine, she's right. We have a big day ahead of us.
Trix: What?! Come on, I'm not even tired!
Phoenix: You're literally getting eye bags right now.
Looking closely at Trix's eyes, she in fact was starting to have bags under her eyes. She quickly tried to rub awake, only to fail and give in.
Trix: Ugh, fine, but I did it because I'm kinda tired!
Trix crawled into her sleeping bag, huffing her chest in being told to go to bed like she was a kid.
Oak gave a snort of chuckle as he crawled into his sleeping bag. Laying a head on his pillow he stared at the ceiling which was decorated with lights. He turned to see that Trix was already asleep, snoring loudly.
Phoenix had already left to go to sleep so he was the only one awake. Sighing, he stared back at the ceiling.
Oak: Go big… or go home…
Finally, he closed his eyes. Releasing himself to the sweet darkness of sleep. Ready to break the chains.
