Minerva turned over in her bed feeling the sun on her face. It was Saturday morning, she remembered, and she could lie in if she liked. Her bed felt so cozy and soft right now and she snuggled down into the covers. There was an annoying pain in her temple, she knew it was from the wine last night. After the first bottle, Hagrid had pulled out another bottle and the pair had worked their way through that one as well. Now that she thought about it, she didn't even remember walking back to her rooms.
Just then, the sound of Fang howling filled the room and Minerva shot up in bed, startled. She was in Hagrid's cabin. She quickly glanced down to see that she was still wearing the dress from yesterday. Hagrid grumbled from his large chair where he had been fast asleep and he rubbed at his eyes.
"Rubeus?" She said, confusion in her voice.
His head whipped around to her, as if he had forgotten she was there and when he saw her he instantly smiled. "Good Mornin' Love. Feeling alright this mornin'?"
"I'm okay, just a slight headache. What happened?"
He grinned at her humorously. "Seems someone doesn't hold their liquor too well." He teased.
Minerva scoffed, "I beg your pardon? I hold my liquor perfectly fine, I'll have you know." She stated with mock indignation.
"Says the woman who fell asleep on my chest out by the lake last night, then swatted me away when I tried to wake you."
Minerva reddened and Hagrid chuckled. "Didn't think it'd be a good idea to carry ye back through the castle so I brought ye here and let ye have the bed."
"Oh I'm so sorry, Rubeus!" She got up and padded over to him, sitting in his lap and kissing his cheek.
He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her forehead. " S'Alright Love. We stayed out pretty late and you musta been tired after the busy week you had."
"But I had such a nice time with you last night." Just then her stomach rumbled and Hagrid chuckled.
"How 'bout we keep it going then and you let me take you down to that new little café in Hogsmeade for breakfast?"
Minerva put her finger on her chin and pretended to consider his offer, then her eyes slid to him and she smiled.
"Deal." She said, "But next date, you come over to my rooms and let me cook for you."
His face brightened further. "I can't wait."
After breakfast, Minerva stated that there was an errand she needed to run before heading back to the castle and told Hagrid he could accompany her if he wanted to.
"I'll take any excuse to spend more time with you." He said in reply and Minerva felt her stomach flutter, a sensation she had been getting a lot around him.
He followed her to a shop just down the road from the cafe that sold top of the line broomsticks and he waited outside the shop for her. When she came out empty handed, Hagrid looked at her somewhat confused but didn't comment on it. Instead he said. "All set?"
Minerva nodded and the pair set off towards the castle. After a few moments Minerva broke the silence. "I can tell you are itching to ask, just go ahead." She said playfully.
"Is Gryffindor getting new broomsticks?" He immediately stammered out and Minerva couldn't help but smile at his excitement, but she shook her head.
"Unfortunately, no. I wish. But we do have a new seeker! I'm sending the broomstick to him. It seems you aren't the only one who has a bit of a soft spot for the boy."
Hagrids eyes widened, realizing who she was talking about. "Harry is the new seeker? He's only a first year, how did he manage to make the team?"
She told him about what she had witnessed outside her office window just a few days prior.
"Blimey." Hagrid said. "Sounds like the kid's a natural. Good for him!"
As they made it back To Hagrid's hut Minerva stopped and turned to him. "I better get back to the castle. I had such a lovely time, Rubeus, and I'm sorry for falling asleep on you!"
Hagrid pulled her to the side, out of view of the castle and kissed her passionately, catching her by surprise, but she kissed him back eagerly. He nipped at her bottom lip before speaking again. "No need to apologize, Beautiful. I'm glad you feel so comfortable laying on top of me." And with those words he winked at her and Minerva felt her cheeks go red at the obvious implication.
"Why Rubeus," She said seductively, "It seems you do have a naughty side."
"Just you wait, little witch." His words sent a shiver of excitement down her spine.
As Minerva made it back inside the castle and began walking up the steps towards Gryffindor tower to check and make sure all was as it should be with her house, she passed Severus on the steps. She nodded at him in greeting "Severus." She said politely. He glanced at her and greeted her back "Minerva." Then he seemed to do a double take and he stared at her for a moment.
Minerva stopped and turned to him, confused. "Is something wrong?" She asked.
He seemed to contemplate whether he should answer her question or not before stepping closer to her and speaking quietly.
"I don't generally make it a habit of commenting on people's personal business. That being said, I do feel the need to suggest, perhaps your gentleman should be a bit more careful, or a well placed glamor charm would be prudent."
Minerva's eyebrows furrowed. "What on earth are you talking about, Severus?"
Severus held an amused smirk on his face as he gestured to her neck. Her hand went to her neck as she realized what he meant.
She couldn't see the hickey but she knew that's what he must be referring to. The way Hagrid latched onto her neck last night she was sure to have one. And she had gone all through Hogsmeade with a hickey!
She quickly pulled out her wand and cast a glamor on her neck. "Better?" She asked.
Severus nodded, still holding his smirk. "Much." He said, and continued walking down the stairs.
"Severus!" He stopped and looked at her again. "Not a word about this."
He smirked again. "Your secret is safe with me, Professor."
She shook her head and rubbed her hand down her face. She was secretly relieved that it had been Severus that noticed it and not one of the more gossipy teachers. Or, Merlin forbid, a student. Then it would be all over the school for sure.
The worst Severus would do is tease her, he wasn't one to spread other peoples business, though she did have a feeling he may now venture to find out who her 'mystery man' was, but she wasn't worried about him. Severus had become a friend over the years and she believed she could trust him. She would have to be more careful though, it simply wouldn't do to have the Deputy Headmistress walking the halls with hickeys on her neck.
