It was done, over, finished.

They first traveled back to the village Kikyo and her sister grew up in. The travel was quiet and in light rain. Sesshomaru kept a quiet close eye on Kagome as she took in every new detail of things that she had come to know well as a human. They all were, and at first, she didn't notice. She was so busy hearing and seeing and smelling. Sesshomaru did his very best to treat her the same but he wasn't. He was by her always, watching closely always, dare she even say, soft with his words?

Till finally she had enough. She stopped right outside the village "Alright, I know Naraku died but why does it feel like someone else did?"

They all looked at her.

"It's like you are all walking on eggshells!"

"What the hell are you talking about?" Inuyasha spit out, he was sick of the rain.

"It's been quiet, and everyone keeps eying me!" She yelled.

Miroku coughed in mild guilt.

"Oi, your guard dog made a big deal about your adjustment!"

"I said treat me the same!"

"We can't!" He yelled and she cringed slightly. Sesshomaru postured but Kagome put her hand on his chest, seeing he was standing just behind her. He looked down at the offending hand.

"What do you mean, you can't?" Kagome asked slowly,

Inuyasha marched up to her and grabbed her free hand. Kagome froze and felt totally uncomfortable which was crazy.

"You want to pull away dont you,"

"Do you wish to lose that arm?" Sesshomaru asked,

Inuyasha let her go and she stood firm, but inside all she wanted to do was rub her hand all over Sesshomaru.

"Go on then dont ignore it," Inuyasha crossed his arms. She tried to hold out, she did, but it won and she slapped the back of her hand against his chest and rubbed it. It was pleasing to him, slightly pleasing to her.

"We can't treat you the same because you can't treat us the same," Inuyasha walked back to Kikyo.

"Thats not a fair test," Kagome spit out.

"Inuyasha, once she adjusts all will be well," Ziro confirmed and then he looked at his daughter, "Just as they must give you time, you must give it to them. You are the same girl, but the world is new now. We all have learning to do,"

Miroku smiled, "Even humans go through change, faster even as time is not on our side and you have gone through a lot in a very little amount of time,"

Suddenly she was sad, and the feeling that came off of him hit her hard, the sense was almost scent but it wasn't a smell. It just came to her like one. She looked up at Sesshomaru "Compassion and thankfulness," He told her, reading her unspoken question.

Inuyasha rolled his eyes.

"So, what now, we all just go different paths?"

Inuyasha threw his hands up, "What did you think Kagome? That we would all just roam around in a large group like homeless rats!"

"I gave up everything for you!" She yelled,

"Oh no, not me," He said darkly,

"All of you," She said sadly,

"You made a choice," He told her,

"I made a sacrifice!"

"Then what do you want us to do, follow you around, by all means, Kagome lead the way!" The rain was coming down slightly harder.

"What, no, that's not-"

"Inuyasha, that's not fair," Miroku spoke up,

"It's over Kagome, Naraku is dead," Inuyasha eyed Sesshomaru "Your mated to him, so go home, have your brat-"

Sesshomaru growled and Kagome gasped and placed a hand on her belly. She had no idea.

"Inuyasha," Kikyo grabbed his arm. He turned, ready to get inside the small hut.

"Would you said all this to me if I were still human,"

He closed his eyes and opened them again and looked at her "You wouldn't have let me, you would have sat me way before now,"

Kagome's lips parted as hurt stung her eyes. "Sit," She said softly.

But nothing happened. Inuyasha stared at her a moment more before turning and walking away.

She was so confused.

Her father sighed, "Dont keep his words close to heart Kagome,"

She looked at him. He looked down at her hand "It is the Demon blood inside you that upsets him,"

"Im really pregnant?" She looked up at Sesshomaru who simply nodded.

"He is hurt?" She asked confused,

"Perhaps a little jealous, but the truth is, he is afraid,"

"He was always worried the well would take you, but I think your brother taking you seems worse," Miroku told her,

They never were a close family.

"Going our separate ways seemed further away than this," Sango added.

The rain came down and one by one they went into the village till Kagome and Sesshomaru were left.

She looked at him.

"Do you regret it now?" He asked, "Do wish to leave me and stay with them?"

Kagome looked away "Why does anyone have to leave anyone?"

Sesshomaru places a hand on her flat tummy "My blood grows inside you, our family,"

It warmed her though she wasn't really cold. "But, they are my family too," She looks up at him and her soft face and gold eyes have him wanting to bend a knee to her every wish. "Can't I have both?"

She could have anything she wanted.

She had sacrificed, made a choice and now it was his turn.

"As you wish,"

It was today that Sesshomaru learned something new along with her. That you did not have to have blood, even demon blood, to be family.

But, also that you didnt have to like your family, only love them and protect them, which he would have to do when claiming her misfit friends as family.
