Diary of Colton Hayes

June 15, 1899

Well now, we've just rolled into this patch of land, and let me tell you, it's a sight to behold. There's a metal sign and a concrete road laid out like somethin' from a city, not what you'd expect in these wilds. The sign's got words on it that translate to "Private Property," which seems downright peculiar 'cause we're in the middle of nowhere. I reckon it's either another group tryin' to stake their claim or some newfangled law we're not used to.

We're already on the run from one government and don't need trouble with another, so I was a bit wary. But Thamton figured it might be folks tryin' to guard their gold. So, we're settin' up camp nearby and sendin' Travers and Jed to scout this here place at sunset.

On a brighter note, we bagged a big ol' deer on the way here. At least we've got a fine feast to keep us goin' through the night, and Riggins'll have his hands full cookin' up a storm. Here's hopin' this spot brings us more luck than trouble.
