"Amelia's diary entry number one, date is 1/13/32.

I've decided to start these entries to document what's happening around here—and maybe just to keep track of my life up here in the Northern Sector. First topic on the chopping block is the disappearance of a coworker, Jefferson Zephyr. I'd be lying if I said we were close, but we did go to the same high school, so I guess that amounts to more than the others at the base.

The last time I saw him was a few days ago. He mentioned stepping outside for a bit and said he'd be back soon, but 'soon' turned into hours, and that night was brutally cold. What's been bugging me is how he was dressed. He was wearing a full winter coat—the kind we'd usually wear to the mining site. But that place has been shut down for a while now due to hazardous conditions, much to NorthStar's displeasure. The vehicles and drills we were using kept filling the cavern with noxious gases. Guess NorthStar 'didn't have the budget' for electric tools.

What really doesn't add up is why he'd need that coat. It's like he was heading somewhere else entirely. He was also muttering something about showing them something—though who them is, remains a mystery. The only them I can think of is NorthStar. You probably can't see the air quotes, but trust me, they're definitely there. And the camcorder he had with him? That's what really threw me off. If he was just going out for a smoke, he wouldn't need a camcorder.

Another thing that's been gnawing at me is the thought that he couldn't possibly be dead—NorthStar actually provided us with a respawn machine. Sure, it's a cheap piece of carp they bought from the Splatlands, but it's still a respawn machine, even if it is made from a washing machine...

Oh, and while I was outside taking a quick break, I thought I saw something moving in the bushes. Could've just been my imagination since there aren't any birds around here because of the weather, but I might check it out later.

Anyway, I forgot what else I was going to talk about, and I need to get to bed, it's like 10:30, so this is where the first entry ends."
