AN: There's not much to this chapter, it's basically just a short filler chapter for what's to come but I hope you guys enjoy it! Happy Reading!
One week later…
Tonight was her date with Silas and Sam was suddenly nervous, it had been a very long time since she's been out on a date and awhile since she spent time with a man in a romantic setting. Ironically enough those weren't the reasons she was nervous, not completely at least. No, the main reason she was nervous was the man currently downstairs with her son and the fact that going on this date made her feel guilty because she could admit(at least to herself) that the only reason she was even going was to avoid the feelings that have been bubbling up for him. That guilt had been gnawing on her from the second she told him that she had decided to accept Silas' date and she saw his face turn and the light in those beautiful blue-grey eyes dim. Something shifted between them that night and she almost wished she said no, but she was doing this for herself and him at the end of the day because if she acted on her feelings for him before she was truly ready then they'd fail and she didn't like imagining the outcome to that. At the very least that's what she was telling herself so she didn't have to face the fact that the real reason was that she was just a huge chicken shit. She wanted Drew at the end of the day and she knew that if things were to progress with him she would be ready, but she was afraid. So now here she stood staring at herself in the mirror waiting for a man that wasn't the man she wanted to come get her for a date that she wished she never accepted, because she was too scared to take a leap of faith. The old version of herself would probably slap her right now but she was in the thick of it now and she was going to see it through. Taking one last look at her outfit and hair and deeming it acceptable she went downstairs to say goodbye to her son and his uncle.
When she got downstairs Drew heard her and turned his head only to have his breath be taken away for probably the hundredth time since he met her. She was gorgeous in her red spaghetti strapped dress that looked like it was made for dancing, with a split that stopped mid thigh and it made his mouth water. Her hair was down in crinkly waves, her lips covered in red lipstick and her face with minimal makeup, and her feet in her strappy 6 inch red bottom stilettos. He was speechless and for the hundredth time since she accepted that date he was mad at himself because she could've been dressed like that for a night out with him if he had the balls to make his move. But he didn't and now he's here watching her look like the goddess of love and beauty herself for another man.
"So what do you think?" She asked, breaking him out of his thoughts as she twirled around to show him her outfit.
"Wow… I mean, wow. Sam, you look breathtaking." He told her honestly.
She blushed. "Thank you." She responded softly as they just looked into each other's eyes.
They broke out of their stupor when Danny giggled. "What do you think, little man? Doesn't mommy look amazing?" Drew asked the little boy in his arms who only looked at him and giggled harder while changing mama. "I think he agrees." He smiled looking up at Sam.
Danny reached out for her and she gladly took him with a smile. "I'll have to say I think you're right." She winked at him as she snuggled her babbling son. A knock on the door interrupted the mother and son moment.
"I'll get it." Drew said, walking to the door. He almost rolled his eyes when he saw Silas standing there looking like a dog in a suit. He wasn't even being an asshole, the man did look exactly like he thought a German Shepard would look if he was a human. Drew had Sam and Danny blocked from the other man's view so he looked a little nervous and confused as he was greeted.
"Uh, hi. Is Sam here?" Silas asked, wondering why he was getting stared down by this man instead of greeting the woman he came here to take out. The shit was a little unsettling but he wasn't going to let it show.
Drew was about to respond when Sam came up behind him with Danny and smiled at Silas, which grated on Drew's nerves and delighted Silas. "I'm right here. Sorry I was just saying goodbye to my little man when you knocked." She explained as she slyly moved Drew from blocking Silas's view of her.
"It's okay, you don't have to apologize for getting moments with your boy. You look beautiful by the way. Hi, Danny." He said waving at her baby boy and then giving her a smile. Drew tried not to gag at the scene.
"Thank you, you look pretty dapper yourself." She turned to her son. "Say hi sweetheart, you remember Dr. Clay?" She cooed. Danny gave a little wave and then turned to Drew and reached out for him.
"Looks like someone is ready to go to bed huh?" Drew spoke to his nephew as the little one settled into his arms and rested his little head on his shoulder. "I'll go get him ready for bed. I hope you guys have a good time on your date. Say bye mommy." Drew said, making Danny wave.
"Bye honey." Sam said sweetly, blowing a kiss to her son and watched as they exited the room. She turned towards the man still in the room and gave him a smile, mentally preparing herself for this date and to leave the only two beings of the male species that she wanted to give her time to. "Ready to go?"
The Metro Court Rooftop restaurant…
Sam was in awe at the fact that Silas had managed to get the whole rooftop for their date. One lone table with a bouquet, two candles and a bottle of wine in a chill bucket, a path lit up by candles leading to it. Beautiful music was playing in the background and the moonlight glistened over the infinity pool setting the mood for a very successful date. He had definitely outdone himself and while she did like it, it just felt like so much for a first date. This was something most men would set up for a proposal or an anniversary and it was a little overwhelming. But maybe Silas was just the type of man that liked to sweep a woman off of her feet from start to finish of a relationship, she didn't know. She didn't necessarily want to find out, but she was an open minded person and didn't want to put herself on hold for something that probably won't happen anyway. How do you know it won't happen if you don't go for it? Her mind taunted. She ignored it, already vowing to not let the little voice in her head ruin this date. It was going to go one of two ways anyway, she resolved to just let things happen naturally.
So far things were going pretty well, Silas was a good man from what she knew about him after everything that went down with Rafe, and him being Danny's doctor. He was rough around the edges at first but he warmed to her and she to him over time, so she knew things weren't going to be a complete disaster. The conversation flowed, nothing too deep, she got caught up on how things had been going between him and Rafe from his side and caught him up on how Danny was doing. They talked about work and other little getting to know each other on the first date type of things. It was nice, and she realized how sweet he could be after she asked why he chose to do all of this for a first date.
"I just wanted to do something special for you after the last few months of crazy. My mental brother, raising my nephew and helping me with him and then being so strong for Danny as well, you deserved a night out just for you." He answered.
"Well it is very nice, so thank you." She responded softly, not really knowing what else to say at such a thoughtful action for someone he barely even knew.
He smiled. "Would you like to dance?" He asked as he stood up and held his hand out for her to take.
"Sure." She answered, after all she did enjoy dancing.
The Penthouse…
Drew had been drinking a beer watching the highlights of a football game as Danny slept comfortably on the couch next to him, when there was a knock on the door. He checked the time, it was almost 10pm and Sam was still on her date, unfortunately so he knew it wasn't her. Sighing, he got up to answer the door only to be greeted by an irritated looking Sonny Corinthos.
"May I help you?" Drew asked shortly. He had yet to actually meet his nephew's godfather and the man his brother was so undeservingly loyal to, officially but he didn't like the man. And he had a feeling that he knew why the man would just so suddenly show up at Sam's house looking pissed after not seeing his supposed godchild for weeks.
"Who are you?" The short little man asked. Wondering who this guy was and why he was in Jason's apartment in the middle of the night.
"I could ask you the same thing, especially since you're the one at my doorstep at almost 10pm."
"Watch how you talk to me, you don't know who you're fucking with." Sonny said menacingly, as if he was actually intimidating to anyone that wasn't shorter than him.
"Or what, big guy? You gonna fight me?" Drew mocked. "You're here at my door bothering me, either tell me what you want or take the fuck off to whatever Tinkerbelle tree you flew in from."
Sonny tried to keep his composure and took a deep breath before asking for the person he came to see. "Where is Sam?"
"I'm sorry I don't think I know anyone by that name but if they stop by, I'll be sure to let them know that a leprechaun was here asking for them. Thanks for stopping by. Goodnight." He said as he slammed the door in the man's face before he could do or say anything else. He sent a text to Jack to let him know to get some guys to make sure Sam was good on her date and to change the security of this building. Maybe it's time to buy the building. The little overprotective voice in his head suggested, and since it was currently owned by Sonny, maybe buying it from under him wouldn't be such a bad idea. He texted his dad to get him to put in an offer the tiny mobster couldn't refuse, then sat back down with his beer and finished the highlights of the game he missed earlier that day. He was about to go get another beer and watch a movie but then Danny woke up crying and wouldn't settle without the smooth tones of Sam Smith. He couldn't blame the kid, the man's voice was as smooth as butter and very soothing. Before he knew it he himself was falling asleep as well and his plans to stay up until Sam came back were ruined.
Meanwhile…
Sam and Silas were in the lobby and he was heading up with her to make sure she got home safely, according to him even though she knew that was just bs. Their date had actually turned out to be pretty fun, seeing as how they spent four hours together, so she didn't mind him escorting her to her door. She was nervous though because this was technically her first actual date since she was in high school, if ever if she was being honest. She never went on any real dates with any man that she was in a relationship with as an adult and the thought kind of made her sad at the end of the day. But she'd seen enough romantic comedies, and read enough romance novels to know that when a successful first date ends there's usually a first kiss afterwards. She didn't know if she wanted to kiss Silas but at this point she wasn't opposed to it and as they reached the outside of her door a little part of her was anticipating it. Her anticipation wasn't for naught because just as she expected he leant down and kissed her. For a second she kissed him back before a massive wave of guilt and just all around wrongness filled her bones and she broke the kiss, bid Silas a goodnight and went inside of her home. To say the sight that greeted her was one that melted her heart entirely wouldn't be wrong. Because seeing the light of her life and the man that she was falling for alarmingly fast asleep on her couch, her baby boy laying on his chest so trustingly and his strong arms keeping him safe was a sight she never wanted to miss.
But at the moment all she wanted to do was cry, she'd had such a good night until the kiss. Sam didn't know why she felt so badly about it, it wasn't like she had betrayed Drew, they were friends. He's the man that saved her son's life and the man that was winning her heart without even realizing it but they were not together. Maybe it wasn't a feeling of betraying him that made her feel so guilty, it was the feeling of betraying herself. The feeling of going against her natural instinct to follow her heart and go after what she wanted and instead choosing something else, even for a brief moment. Being a pussy was not the version of herself that she wanted to be. It was time to suck it up and go after what she wanted, or at the very least let it be known in no uncertain terms that it's what she wanted. Drew is what she wants, he's who she wants and she will have him, that much she was certain of. Pulling herself together she locked the door, went upstairs, took a shower, brushed her teeth, got into her pajamas and then went downstairs to her two favorite guys. She planned to wake Drew and let him know he could have the guest room for the night instead of sleeping on the couch but her son had apparently sensed she was home and decided to wake the both of them up for her.
Danny squealed when he saw his mother and it woke Drew up pretty quickly, not knowing what was going on until he saw Sam standing there in her pj's looking adorably cute and smiling at the both of them. "Hey." He greeted her sleepily as he sat up.
"Hey." She whispered in response as she gently took Danny from his arms and sat down next to him, her little boy now content to go back to sleep as if his job was done.
"When did you get home?"
"Doesn't matter. I'm here now." She responded softly as she leaned her head against his shoulder.
"I'm glad you're back." He said with a yawn as he started to fall back asleep, his head falling onto hers as he did.
She smiled softly as she heard his breathing get deeper and even out. "Me too." She whispered and closed her eyes and let sleep start to take her over as well. There's no place else I'd rather be.
