Hey guys and welcome back to my Vault for another crossover of DXD. Challenge rules below, as always:

Hey to all my readers and fans of the forum; DZ2 here with a rather interesting challenge that came from reading a funny story, but see what you think...

DZ2's 'Unorthodox Guardian' Challenge

Plot: Harry wasn't raised by the Dursleys when he was just left by the senile fool; instead, he was raised by the last choice that anyone would have expected...and it's not just Dumbledore who disapproves

Rules: Harry's guardian MUST be someone of Creature blood or species - Vampire, Werewolf, Centaur, Nymph, Necromancer, Dragon, Merfolk etc Ghoul

When the Ministry and Dumbledore catch up with Harry, there must be a confrontation about rules and safety etc

Harry MUST have the ability - or learn/absorb the ability - to speak in the tongue of his guardian Not necessary

Though this guardian raises Harry because he is the BWL, they still treat him as Harry I don't think this will be applicable with what I have in mind

Due to anti-creature laws that threaten his family, Harry MUST be Grey or Dark only

As part of his adoption into the creature fold, the Horcrux in him is either absorbed, destroyed, devoured or just plain split from him Not including the Horcrux thing in this one due to changes to the murder attempt

Guidelines: Anti-Muggle/Human Harry Hes a Ghoul. He eats humans.

Non-Gryffindor Harry Hes not going to Hogwarts

Crossovers Tokyo Ghoul

Despite being away from Privet Drive, the Dursleys must still be wary of the chance of their nephew's return

Harry developing traits of his adopted guardian - vampire's bloodlust/thirst, werewolf transformation, Veela allure, Dementor traits (a clue there about the story that inspired this challenge) Hes a One Eyed Ghoul

Remus and/or other creature-prejudice-suffering allies find Harry Sure

Harry as the future ruler/lord of his guardian's clan/nest/coven/pack etc No

Tom does not wish to turn Harry, but asks for his help in teaching the world the error of their mistakes Maybe

Members of the Ministry/magical community siding with Harry despite propaganda e.g. Malfoys, Lestranges, Snape, etc. No

Harry doesn't go to Hogwarts - so he's older when they catch up with him Yes

Lily and James alive Just Lily

Wrong BWL No

All pairings are welcome, though the one Harry is paired with MUST become a creature/hybrid like Harry

A second prophecy concerning Harry joining his guardian's race is made by a real Seer No

Forbidden: Light Harry

Harry serving anyone but the leader of his guardian's race - unless the guardian IS the leader He works in a coffee shop.

Dumbledore gaining Harry's allegiance or his people

The Prophecy being true

Harry staying human - half-breed or full-Creature Harry

This idea is obviously a crossover with Tokyo Ghoul. Enjoy!

One Red Eye

We begin in the foyer of a small cottage in Godrics Hollow, shortly after a cloaked figure had blasted the door of its hinges and killed the man who tried to stop him. The cloaked figure stepped over the still form of James Potter as he made his way upstairs, following the sounds of heavy objects being piled in front of a door. he reached the top of the stairs and pointed his wand at the door to the left, blasting it open, despite the large amount of furniture that had been piled up in front of the door. He stepped over the threshold and saw the Mudblood stood defiantly in front of the crib.

"Stand aside girl," he hissed.

"No, not Harry, take me instead!" yelled the woman, throwing her arms wide.

"I said, stand aside," said Voldemort, "I promised Severus I'd leave you alive, but if you don't move, I will kill you!"

"No way, I won't let you touch my son," retorted Lily.

"Then you die," sighed Voldemort, raising his wand.

Before he could cast the deadly spell however, a sudden searing pain emerged from his stomach. He looked down and saw what appeared to be a spiked tail covered in interlocking scales piercing straight through him. He followed it and saw that it disappeared behind Lilys back. he looked up and met the woman's eyes, only to see twin pools of red surrounded by black.

"You first you bastard," growled Lily.

Voldemort stared at Lily for a moment, before he threw back his head and laughed, despite the fact he still had Lilys Kagune through his gut.

"Whats so funny?" asked Lily, a little nonplussed at the unexpected reaction

"Hahahaha! Oh how perfectly delicious!" crowed Voldemort, "I'm going to dine well tonight! Not just on Pure Blood, but also a Ghoul!"

He rocked back and met Lilys eyes, his own orbs now matching hers perfectly as what appeared to be a white snake emerged from the bottom of his robes and began to wave lazily in the air. Lily growled and tore her tail from Voldemorts body, tearing open a large wound, before she charged him, Kagune lashing behind her. That proved to be a mistake as a bolt of green light struck her in the face, causing her to drop. Lily let out a groan of pain as she felt the energies of the Killing Curse flow through her body. Due to the differences between Ghouls and humans, the normally deadly spell wasn't able to kill the carnivorous humanoids, but it hurt like a bitch and paralyzed their body's.

Lily struggled against her numb limbs, trying desperately to move, to fight and kill the monster that was threatening her son. Before she could move so much as a finger however, a blinding pain shot through her, making her scream as Voldemort viciously twisted his Kagune he had just rammed through her stomach, his face splitting into a sick grin as he watched her scream and writhe, her own Kagune flailing wildly as she tried to get away from the pain. Finally, after one more vicious twist, he wrenched his snake-like tail from her body, leaving her gasping in a pool of blood.

"Now you just lay there for now," purred Voldemort, "I'll get to you once I've taken care of your precious spawn."

He turned to the crib and took a step towards it, only to stop as a hand grabbed onto his leg.

"You won't touch him," gasped Lily through the pain in her stomach.

Voldemort frowned, before his foot slammed into Lilys side, sending her flying out of the room, threw the railings around the stairs and down to the ground floor where she landed on her husband's corpse. Voldemort turned to look at little Harry who was laying back in his crib looking up at the Dark Lord through wide, green eyes, absently chewing on a stuffed dogs ear.

"And with this, I will live forever!" said Voldemort, bringing up his snake-like Kagune.

Downstairs, Lily struggled desperately to get up, to go to her son, only for her body to fail her and slump back against her husband.

"Damn it, I can't let him kill Harry!" growled Lily as she tried once more to get up, only to let out a cry of frustration as she once more failed.

She her head to look at James' limp body, ignoring the urge to sink her teeth into him in favor of gently cupping his cheek.

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't strong enough," she whispered, "I wasn't strong enough to protect our little boy."

The red headed Ghoul broke down and started sobbing into her husbands chest. It was at that moment that the sound of a car engine drifted into the house, followed by a door slamming and running footsteps as an elderly man appeared in the door of the house, breathing lightly. He was fairly tall and had a weatherbeaten face, workscared hands and a clearly muscular body under his checkered shirt. His close cropped hair had been red, but now had a dusting of grey.

Upon seeing Lily crying over James' body, as well as the bloody hole through her stomach, the man rushed forwards, skidding to a stop on his knees beside her, wrapping his arms around the distraught woman.

"Lily-flower, whats wrong?" whispered the man, "What happened here?"

"Hes here dad," whispered Lily into her fathers chest, "Voldemort. Hes here and hes like us."

"Oh he is is he?" growled Mr Evens, his eyes changing to red and black, "In that case, lets end it."

"Wait…"

Before Lily could protest, her father had already bounded up the stairs, clearing them in a single leap, before vanishing into the nursery. There was a moment of silence where Lily feared the worse, before Mr. Evens appeared at the top of the stares again, this time with a blood soaked, sleeping baby in his arms.

"What happened?" asked Lily, "Is Harry alright? Wheres Voldemort?"

"Hes fine," reassured Mr. Evens, "I don't know what happened, but when I got there all that was left of that Dark Tosser was his robe and a pile of dust."

Lily let out a sigh of relief and took her son as Mr Evens handed him to her, cradling him close and ignoring the blood that covered him.

"Come on, we'd better go," said Mr Evens, "Its not safe to stay here."

"What about James?" asked Lily, looking down at her husband.

"We can either take him or leave him here," said Mr. Evens, "I'm sure the Wizards will take care of him."

Lily seemed conflicted for a moment, before she nodded.

"Lets take him. I want to bury him myself."

"Alright."

Lily got stiffly to her feet, her injury now mostly healed, as Mr. Evens gently lifted James' body and carried him out to the car where her put him on the back seat, covered with a blanket. With a final look at the house, Lily climbed into her fathers car and they drove away, just moments before the Aurors arrived.

The next day, Neville Longbottom was named the Boy-Who-Lived and in short order, everyone forgot about the Potters.

14 year old Hermione Granger smiled as she entered the coffee shop down the street from her house, inhaling deeply as the smell of coffee filled the air.

"Morning Hermione," said the teen behind the counter, "Hang on, I've got your order here."

The boy reached under the counter and pulled out a plastic bag and placed it on the counter.

"Here you go, enough for a week. Anything else?"

"Just a large coffee to go please," said the girl, taking the plastic bag of the counter as the teen started making the requested beverage.

As she waited, the 14 year old looked around the small cafe, returning a few waves the friendly regulars offered her. She was distracted from her examination of the room as the barrister put a polystyrene cup on the counter.

"Thanks Harry," she said, taking the cup and handing over the money, before making her way out the door.

Harry smiled as his favorite customer left, waving after her.

"She likes you you know," said a voice from right behind him, making him jump.

"Mom, you scared me!" yelled the boy in protest, turning to face the woman who had snuck up behind him.

Lily Evens chuckled as she watched her son pout at her. The past 13 years had been kind to the red-head. She was still every bit as beautiful as she had been on the night she lost her husband and maid the waitress uniform she wore look extremely good. Most people would think she was in her early 20s, not pushing 40 like she was. Despite her beauty and the many admirers she had picked up, she hadn't been on a date since James had been killed, preferring to instead focus on raising her son.

Speaking of her son, he had grown into a fine young man. He had inherited her brilliant green eyes, her impressive intellect and her kind heart. The rest was all James, including his prankster tendencies unfortunately. His hair reached his shoulders, kept long so that it could actually be kept under control, and pulled back into a short ponytail, while his long bangs covered the lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead, the only remnant of that night. The 14 year old attended the local high school, having turned down the chance to go to Hogwarts in favor of being home taught by Lily and proved that he was an extremely talented and powerful wizard.

The mother and son duo had been taken in by Lilys father, Michael, after that night, before Lily had used some of the money she had inherited from James to open up a small coffee shop. They didn't really need it as the Potter fortune would allow the family to live comfortably for several decades, longer due to the fact they were Ghouls and thus didn't need to purchase food, but Lily needed something to do. Now, the Lily of the Valley was a favorite hangout for the local teenagers and resident Ghoul population.

Lily was broken from her musings as the bell above the door rang. She turned to face the newcomers, a smile on her face. Her greeting slipped from her lips and the smile from her face at the sight of the two men now standing in the door.

Both tall and thin, but one had a curtain of greasy black hair and a scowl, while the other had long, white hair and beard and twinkling blue eyes. Both men were dressed in robes that didn't look in the least bit comfortable considering the heat outside.

At the sight of her standing behind the counter, the greasy haired man let out a startled gasp.

"Lily…"

And I'm gonna end it there! Hope you liked it! As alway, if you want to take this on, feel free but I reserve the right to do my own version. Please leave me a review on the way out!
