Contract of the King
Harry took a deep breath as he opened the door he had seen so many times in his dreams and stepped through into the Department of Mysterys, followed by his friends. They found themselves standing in a large, circular room. Everything in here was black including the floor and ceiling, with identical, unmarked, handle-less black doors set at intervals all around the black walls, interspersed with branches of candles whose flames burned blue, their cool, shimmering light reflected in the shining marble floor so that it looked as though there was dark water underfoot.
"Someone shut the door," Harry muttered, only to regret giving this order the moment Neville had obeyed it.
Without the long chink of light from the torch-lit corridor behind them, the place became so dark that for a moment the only things they could see were the bunches of shivering blue flames on the walls and their ghostly reflections in the floor below. In his dream, Harry had always walked purposefully across this room to the door immediately opposite the entrance and walked on. But there were around a dozen doors here. Just as he was gazing ahead at the doors opposite him, trying to decide which was the right one, there was a great rumbling noise and the candles began to move sideways. The circular wall was rotating. Hermione grabbed Harry's arm as though frightened the floor might move too, but it did not. For a few seconds the blue flames around them were blurred to resemble neon lines as the wall sped around and then, quite as suddenly as it had started, the rumbling stopped and everything became stationary once again. Harry's eyes had blue streaks burned into them; it was all he could see.
"What was that about?" whispered Ron fearfully.
"I think it was to stop us knowing which door we came in from," said Ginny in a hushed voice.
Harry realized at once that she was right: He could no sooner have picked the exit from the other doors than located an ant upon the jetblack floor. Meanwhile, the door through which they needed to proceed could be any of the dozen surrounding them.
"How're we going to get back out?" said Neville uncomfortably.
"Well, that doesn't matter now," said Harry forcefully, blinking to try and erase the blue lines from his vision, and clutching his wand tighter than ever, "We won't need to get out till we've found Sirius ..."
"Don't go calling for him, though!" Hermione said urgently, but Harry had never needed her advice less; his instinct was to keep as quiet as possible for the time being.
"Where do we go, then, Harry?" Ron asked.
"I don't know," said Harry, "In the dreams I went through the door at the end of the corridor from the lifts into a dark room — that's this one — and then I went through another door into a room that kind of . . . glitters. We should try a few doors, I'll know the right way when I see it. C'mon."
He marched straight at the door now facing him, the others following close behind him, set his left hand against its cool, shining surface.
"Its you…"
Harry shook his head as a quiet voice reached his ears.
"Did you hear that?" he asked, tightening his grip on his wand.
"Hear what?" asked Neville, looking around nervously.
"...Finally, I have found my…"
"That voice," said Harry, "I can hear someone talking."
"I can't hear anything," said Ron, "Come on, hurry up and open the door."
"R-right," said Harry, pushing the door open.
The room was so utterly unexpected that the group of teens stopped and stared. It was a laboratory, with a shining white floor and stainless steel workbenches, as well as a lot of Mundane equipment. Over at the far side of the room was a tank filled with an odd green liquid with a shape floating inside.
"What is all this stuff?" asked Neville, examining a large scanner.
"This is Muggle lab equipment," said Hermione, "I've see some of this stuff at my parents practice."
As his companions were looking around, Harry was moving closer to the tank in the corner to get a better look. As he got closer, he saw that the object inside the tank was in fact a person, a girl with long, green hair that floated around her head like a halo. She was wearing what looked like a straightjacket that bound her arms and legs together and covered her mouth. The girls eyes were shut and she was completely still as she floated in the tube.
"Harry, we need to hurry," said Hermione from the door, distracting the boy from his examination of the girl in the tube.
Harry took one last glance at the girl, before running after his friends.
Harry ran through the DoM, cursing his stupidity as he ducked the Death Eaters spells. He should have known this was all a trap, but no, he had to be a Gryffindor and charge in without thinking. Now Hermione and Neville were badly hurt and he had no idea where Ron, Ginny or Luna were. He burst through another door and found himself back in the lab they found at the start of their journey. He shot a locking spell at the door he had just come through, just in time to hear someone slam into it and looked around for somewhere to hide. Before he could find somewhere though, the door shuddered and exploded, forcing him to throw up a shield.
"POTTER!" roared the Death Eater as he fired a spell at the teen.
Harry blocked the spell and returned fire with a stunning spell, only for the Death Eater to block. The two wizards exchanged spells, moving around the room as they dodged and countered, before Harry found himself in front of the tank as the Death Eater fired an AK at him. Harry ducked under the spell, making it hit the tank and shatter it, before returning fire with a banisher that hit the Death Eater head on, sending him flying into a cabinet on the wall, upsetting the bottles inside. The Death Eater promptly started screaming as the chemicals began to eat away at his flesh, leaving nothing more than a skeleton in seconds.
Harry took a deep breath and lowered his wand, before turning to look at the shattered tube. The girl was lying in a puddle of green liquid, her hair splayed out around her, completely still. The green eyed wizard knelt down beside her and reached for her, intending to see if she was alive or not, only to jerk back in surprise as her eyes suddenly snapped open, revealing a pair of gold orbs
"You're alive," said Harry, "Are you OK?"
The girl just gave him a look.
"Right, stupid question," muttered Harry, "Come On, let's get you untied."
He quickly undid the bonds holding the girls legs together, but before he could do the same with the others, the sound of Death Eaters shouting reached his ears and he shot to his feet, pulling the girl with him.
"No time to do the rest, we need to hurry," said Harry, dragging the girl after him as he left the room .
He had no idea why he was bringing the girl along as he didnt even know her name and she had been in a tank up until a few moments ago, but something deep inside told him that he had to bring the girl along, no matter what.
A short while later saw Harry once more in a seemingly helpless position, stood before the strange vail they had found earlier with the still bound girl behind him while the rest of his friends were held captive by Death Eaters. Before him stood the ever smug looking Lucius Malfoy.
"Potter, your race is run," said the blond Death Eater, "Now hand me the prophecy like a good boy..."
"Let — let the others go, and I'll give it to you!" retorted Harry
"You are not in a position to bargain, Potter," said Malfoy condescendingly, "You see, there are ten of us and only one of you ... or hasn't Dumbledore ever taught you how to count?"
Harry just glared at him. Seeing he wouldn't get anywhere with threatening the boy, Lucius tried a different tactic.
"Haven't you always wondered what was the reason for the connection between you and the Dark Lord?" he asked, "Why he was unable to kill you when you were just an infant. Don't you want to know the secret, of your scar? All of the answers are there, Potter, in your hand. All you have to do is give it to me, I can show you everything."
Harry hesitated. It was true, he had often wondered that.
"Thats it, all the answers can be yours," whispered Malfoy, seeing Harry hesitate.
The green eyed boy slowly held out the orb, before stopping as he saw something appear behind the Death Eater. Lucius froned and turned, only to find himself face to face with Sirius Black.
"Get away from my Godson."
Sirius punched the Death Eater in the face and more members of the Order began to appear and take down the Death Eaters, before the fight restarted, with Sirius and Harry dueling against Malfoy and Dolohov side by side.
"Whos the girl?" asked Sirius conversationally.
"Not sure, I found her in a tank," said Harry, deflecting a spell before it could hit Sirius.
"You Potters sure know how to pick um," said Sirius, hitting Malfoy in the face with a hex that made him break out in boils.
The blond Death Eater staggered back, allowing the two Wizards to finish of Dolohov with a combined attack. Before they had chance to celebrate their victory though, Bellatrix Lestrange suddenly appeared nearby and shot a stunning spell at Sirius, hitting him in the chest. The Grim Animagus staggered back, tripping on a rock, before tipping backwards into the Vail. There was a brilliant flash of light and Sirius vanished. Harry stared at the vail for a moment, unaware of the Death Eater that had just shot a piercing spell his way. The girl from the tube was not so distracted and threw herself in front of the spell, her remaining bonds coming loose as she did.
"He must not die!" she shouted, only to take the piercing spell to the forehead, straight through the middle of the bird like symbol that was tattooed there.
Harry came back to the present as the girls body slumped to the ground, swiftly following her as he fell to his knees.
"No," he whispered, "Not Sirius."
The battle around him faded away as he focused on the corpse of the girl in front of him.
"How can this be happening?" he whispered, "First Sirius, now this girl. I can't protect anyone…Ron, Hermione, everyone, I'm so sorry."
Suddenly, the girls hand shot out and grabbed his wrist and a voice echoed in his head.
"You don't want it to end here do you?" said the voice.
"What?" thought Harry as his vision was overtaken by a swirl of colours.
"You appear to have a reason for living."
"Wait, is this that girl?" thought Harry, "But thats impossible…"
"If I grant you power, could you go on? I propose a deal—in exchange for this power, you must agree to make my one wish come true. Accept this contract, and you accept its conditions. While living in the world of humans, you will live unlike any other: a different providence, a different time, a different life. The Power of the King will condemn you to a life of solitude. Are you prepared for this?"
The swirling colour momentarily broke to reveal a large, black tower with a tall, blond haired man stood before an altar of some kind.
"So, the Ragnarock conversion is occurring once more," said the man with a grin not unlike Fred and George's when they pull of a prank, "It seems that a new Legend is beginning."
Harry gasped as he felt a surge of power and determination flow through him and he knew without a doubt that he had to take the contract.
"Yes, I hereby agree to the terms of the contract.
"In that case, give me your heart Harry Potter, and I will grant you power!"
Then, the swirling colours were gone and Harry found himself once more in the Vail chamber. He got to his feet and covered his left eye with his hand as he looked around, taking in the injured Order members and the Death Eaters that now surrounded him.
"Surrender Potter," spat Malfoy, "You can't escape."
"Say, do you know what happens when a person has nothing to lose?" asked Harry, a strange grin on his lips.
"What? What are you blabbering about?" demanded one of the Death Eaters, although the masked terrorists were shifting uncomfortably.
"What's wrong?" asked Harry, "Why not shoot? Your opponent is just a schoolboy and I'm sure your master would reward you for killing me. Or have you finally realized...the only ones who should kill are those who are prepared to be killed!"
He lowered his hand, revealing that his scar had split open and bled a tar like substance, before his left eye changed, gaining a glowing red, birdlike symbol in the pupil.
"Now, I command you," said Harry, "Die!"
The bird flapped its wings and seemed to fly at the Death Eaters, who gained a glowing, red ring around their iris.
"Happily my lord!" said Malfoy, pressing his wand under his chin as his fellows did the same, "Avadra Kedavra!"
There was a flash of green light and the Death Eaters fell. Harry ignored the corpses and the Order members now staring at him like he'd spontaneously turned into Voldemort, and ran out of the room, heading after Lestrange.
And I'm going to end it there. What do you think? Before people start yelling at me, if I continued this I'd have it so that Sirius is still alive cus the Veil isn't what people think it is, a gateway to Death. It is instead a gate to a certain temple in the sky… Obviously this isn't set in the same world as Code Geass, instead the history is how we know it with the addition of Geass, Codes and Magic. If anyone can guess who the other Code Bearer is they get cookies. Its a character from the HP world and I think I gave enough of a clue to figure it out. Anyway, enough gabbling, time to sign off. Please leave me a review on the way out!
