A New Star

"Stand up and take out your wand, Potter," said Snape

Harry got to his feet, feeling nervous. They faced each other with the desk between them.

"You may use your wand to attempt to disarm me, or defend yourself in any other way you can think of," said Snape.

"And what are you going to do?" Harry asked, eyeing Snape's wand apprehensively.

"I am about to attempt to break into your mind," said Snape softly, "We are going to see how well you resist. I have been told that you have already shown aptitude at resisting the Imperius Curse. You will find that similar powers are needed for this… brace yourself, now. Legilimens!"

Snape had struck before Harry was ready, before he had even begun to summon any force of resistance. The office swam in front of his eyes and vanished; image after image was racing through his mind like a flickering film so vivid it blinded him to his surroundings. He was five, watching Dudley riding a new red bicycle, and his heart was bursting with jealousy. He was nine, and Ripper the bulldog was chasing him up a tree and the Dursleys were laughing below on the lawn. He was sitting under the Sorting Hat, and it was telling him he would do well in Slytherin. Hermione was lying in the hospital wing, her face covered with thick black hair. A hundred Dementors were closing in on him beside the dark lake. Cho Chang was drawing nearer to him under the mistletoe. But their seemed to be something wrong with the memories. They were cloudy and distant, with only the earliest having any real emotion connected to them. Then, memories started to appear that Harry didn't recognize.

He saw the fight with Quirrellmort, but instead of panicking like he remembered, he remained calm and grabbed the man's face, before a faint blue glow covered his body and, with a dull splatting sound, Quirrells head burst like a water balloon, covering Harry and the mirror in blood. The memory Harry looked into the mirror and the real Harry was disturbed to see that his eyes were like dull river stones. Then, there was a flash of light and the memory faded.

The next memory was of Harrys confrontation with the Basilisk and was again different to how Harry remembered. Instead of running and then killing it with Gryffindor's sword, Harry stood his ground and simply pointed down as he glowed with the same blue light as his confrontation with Quirrellmort. The effect was instantaneous as the massive snake was suddenly slammed into the ground and crushed completely flat by a massive amount of invisible force. Tom stared at the flattened corpse of the snake in shock, before turning to Harry, fear in his eyes.

"What in the world are you?" he demanded, "No magic is that powerful!"

Harry didn't answer, instead thrusting his hand towards Tom and sending him flying back into the statue of Slytherin with enough force to splinter the stone. Tom fell from the crater he had created with his impact, gasping for breath, despite his immaterial body.

"W-what is this power?" he gasped.

Before anything else could be seen, Snape abruptly wrenched himself out of Harrys mind, sending the boy staggering back, gasping for breath.

"What was that?" demanded the Greasy haired man.

"I don't know!" gasped Harry, "I've never seen those memories before!"

Snape eyed Harry for a moment, before suddenly lashing out with another Legilimency attack, tearing through Harry's mind with all the subtlety of a raging rhino as he found memory after memory of Harry using the strange power against the Acromantulas in the Forest, most of the obstacles in the Maze and even the Dementors during the previous summer. Out of all of the victims of the power, the only one who wasn't crushed to paste was the Dragon and even she was badly injured.

Harry fell over backwards, panting for breath as he struggled to make sense of everything he'd seen. Snape remained still, his expression unreadable as he stared down at the prone Harry. Suddenly, the Potions Professor moved around the desk and grabbed Harry by the scruff of the neck, pulling him to his feet.

"Hold still Potter, this is going to hurt," said Snape, before his pupils glowed red and his body was infused by the same blue glow as Harry was when using his powers in the memories.

Harry screamed his head feeling like it had been split open with a fire axe as more memories surged into his head of him using his powers, as well as various fights with Ron that resulted in him cutting contact with the bottomless hole, before being Obliverated by either Dumbledore, Ron or Percy, as well as Hermione, who always sided with him, and anyone else who witnessed the event. There were hundreds of memories serging into Harrys head at the same time spanning from well before Hogwarts to as early as the previous evening when Harry had got into an argument with Ron over his treatment of Hermione. Again. There were also faces and people he had become friendly with from all Houses who had apparently been Obliverated for some reason. The amount of information would have driven any normal person insane, but for some reason Harrys mind suddenly felt...different. It felt more focused and clear, easily analyzing the new memories and storing them away with incredible efficiency.

Finally, after what felt like forever, the memories stopped coming and Harry opened his eyes, finding himself looking up at the black ceiling of Snapes office. The teen sat up and saw the Potions Master sat on the other side of the desk, grinding something with a mortar and pestle. Sat in the chair before Snapes desk that Harry had been occupying before his meeting with the ground was a girl in Hufflepuff robes who looked to be a couple of years older than Harry. She had long, pale blond hair and unusual amber eyes and was flicking through a book with an obvious lack of interest.

"Ah, your finally awake Potter," said Snape, looking up from his work, "I must say that I'm grudgingly impressed. Not many could regain that many memories and come out unscathed."

The girl cleared her throat.

"Yes, I was getting to that," growled Snape, "Potter, this is Amber, an...associate of mine."

"Associate, is that all you think of me?" asked Amber.

Snape just glared at her.

"Alright, fine, no need to be such a sourpuss," said Amber, holding up her hands, before turning to Harry, "So Harry, how do you feel?"

"Like I've been hit over the head with a sledgehammer," replied Harry, rubbing his temples in an attempt to alleviate his aching head, "What happened?"

"I restored your lost memories," said Snape, "I also removed the blocks that had been placed on your abilities. Just in time too since you were on the verge of becoming a Moratorium and losing control of your powers."

"My powers?" asked Harry, "What am I?"

Snape and Amber glanced at one another, before Amber began to speak, telling Harry all about the Gates and the existence of Contractors, Dolls and Moratoria, as well as the organizations that were engaged in a hidden race to unravel the mysteries of the Gates and Contractors, including their own organization, Evening Primrose.

"So what you're saying is that I'm a Contractor?" asked Harry, feeling oddly calm despite the revelation.

"You exhibited Lancelnoptchrotron radiation while utilizing your powers and your memories and thoughts are consistent with that of a Contractor," said Snape, linking his hands and looking at Harry over them.

"I see," murmured Harry, looking thoughtful.

It was strange, Harry mused, how he was so willing to take the word of his second most hated teacher at face value. Maybe it was the presence of Amber or his strangely clear mind that allowed him to be so sure or maybe it was something else entirely. Harry looked down at his hand and clenched it as a blue glow like the one in his newly regained memories suffused his body. Their was a crash as one of the jars on Snapes shelves suddenly imploded, sending embalming fluid and crushed organic matter everywhere as the glass was powderized.

"Was that really necessary?" asked Snape as he brushed a chunk of something off his shoulder.

"Sorry," muttered Harry, not really meaning it as he reached out and plucked a piece of parchment off Snapes desk and crushed it in his hand.

Amber chuckled as she pulled out her wand and cast a spell that cleaned the fluid out of her hair, having been showered with the stuff when the jar imploded.

"So, what do you think?" she asked, slipping the wand back into her robes, "You want to join us? We could use a Contractor with your powers."

Harry was silent for a moment as he thought it over. Logicly it was the best choice as it gave him access to a large amount of resources he otherwise wouldn't have, but he was still hesitant. His Contracter mind may run more on logic than anything else, but he had just discovered that people he thought were his friends had been manipulating him and wiping his memories to keep him under control, even going so far as to seal away a part of himself. He needed some time to get everything straight.

"I need some time," said Harry, "I need to go through my memories and see how far the manipulations go and do something about the manipulators before I agree to anything."

Amber nodded.

"Alright, take as much time as you need," she said, "When your ready, talk to either myself or Sev.

Harry nodded and got to his feet, before leaving the office.

In the false sky, filled with the glowing stars that represented the Contractors, a previously dim star suddenly blazed to full life as the person it represented hardened his resolve and prepared to step out of the prison that had held him for so long.

There we go, done. Its a bit shorter than normal, but I don't really have anything else to add to it. I probably shouldn't have had Amber at Hogwarts, but I couldn't resist. Oh and yes, Snape is a Contractor. Before I sign off, heres the details of Harry and Snape as far as Contractors go.

Harry

Power: Pressure manipulation. He can manipulate the pressure acting on an object, making it explode, implode or even crush it completely.

Obeisance: crushing something between his fingers. Can be anything.

Snape

Power: Telepathy.

Obeisance: Grinding ingredients in a mortar and pestle. Convenient for his job.

And thats it. I also plan to have a character from Harry Potter be a Doll, but I'm not sure who to use. I was thinking of using either Ginny or Lily. Now its time for me to sign out, so please leave me a review!
