Ideas, plot bunnys that won't let go, possible future stories. feel free to pick up the stories if you like them.
Alright, this idea came from DZ2s No challenge, rules below:
DZ2's 'No' Challenge:
Plot: Harry knew about the prophecy before 5th year came around; however, hearing that he must die or he must kill, he chooses a third option: giving destiny the finger!
Rules: Grey Harry
Harry MUST hear the prophecy from a genuine Seer/Oracle or some other future-sight blessed magic user
Even though the words are true, Harry still chooses to defy destiny
Knowing that he must either kill or be killed, Harry develops a real bad-ass attitude and disrespect for those who see him as the BWL
All pairings are welcome EXCEPT Harmony
At some point, Sirius must be freed and his name cleared
When Harry crosses paths with Tom, he faces him head-on rather than ducking and diving
Guidelines: Harry hears the prophecy before he goes to Hogwarts
The prophecy has another meaning (what this meaning might be is up to you)
In seeking to make his destiny his own, Harry gains a mentor/master and/or a new guardian
Severus tells Harry everything about his role as a double-agent
Sirius doesn't die
Slash
Rather than Harry, it's actually Neville who's the Chosen One
Forbidden: Harry/Hermione
Dark or Evil Harry (although the odd Dark moment is allowed)
Sirius on the run
Harry choosing to accept that he MUST die
Harry trusting Dumbledore
Tom gaining Harry's allegiance
Other than that, it's up to you and, for those wondering, I got the idea for this challenge from the following quote from The Last Samurai:
"You believe a man can change his destiny?"
"I think a man does what he can, until his destiny is revealed."
Spooky, huh?
The idea probably isnt what DZ2 had in mind, but it should still be quite interesting. Enjoy!
Screw Fate!
The Quidditch World Cup campgrounds were a constant bustle of activity as more and more people began to arrive and more began to set up stalls ready for that evening when the Match was scheduled to begin. Through this bustle walked the so called Golden Trio of Hogwarts, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and Harry Potter. The three had taken the opportunity after lunch to get away from Rons brother Percy and explore the campsite a little more in an attempt to see all of the strange and unusual sights that accompanied large gatherings of Wizards.
"Good afternoon Mr Potter."
Harry Potter jumped a foot in the air as a voice suddenly sounded from behind him and spun to face the source, his hand jumping to his wand.
"Ah, my apologies Mr Potter," said the person who had spoken, holding up his hands, "It wasn't my intention to startle you."
The person was an elderly gentleman dressed as a stereotypical butler in a black tailcoat, trousers and shoes, white gloves and a bowtie. He had slicked back white hair and a full goatee surrounding his mouth and unusual yellow eyes.
"Who are you?" demanded Ron after looking the butler up and down.
"My name is Sebastian young master," said the man, "My master sent me to find Master Potter to see if he would spare a moment to speak with him."
"Your master?" asked Hermione, looking curious, "Who's your master?"
"I serve the Helios family," said Sebastian, "Master Aevum has requested that you come and speak with him Mr Potter."
"Why doesnt this Adem come to us if he wants to speak with Harry so much?" asked Ron rudely, earning himself a slap on the arm from Hermione.
"Don't be rude Ron," she chastised, "Although you do have a good point, why doesn't your master come to us?"
"Because I've got a butler whos way too efficient for his own good," said a new voice as a new person stepped around the edge of a tent, "Sebastian, what have I told you about acting without permission?"
"Forgive me my lord, I simply wished to save you the trip," said the butler with a bow.
The young man rolled his eyes before turning and grinning at Harry.
"Its nice to meet you Harry, as I'm sure you've guessed, my name is Aevum Helios," he said, inclining his head.
Aevum was a young man who looked to be a couple of years older than the Golden Trio and had shaggy, bronze hair that almost looked metallic with a long fringe that covered his left eye. His visible eye was a dark purple colour and held a similar sparkle to Dumbledores, although without the feeling of being xrayed the old mans gaze held and his skin was lightly tanned. He was wearing jeans and a red t-shirt with the kanji for Time in gold on the front under a black jacket.
"Nice to meet you," said Harry, shaking Aevums hand, "These are my friends, Ron and Hermione."
"Nice to meet you," said Hermione, offering her hand to the older boy.
Instead of shaking it, Aevum turned it over and gently kissed her knuckles, making the girl blush brightly and Ron glower.
"What do you want?" demanded the red-head, "I don't recognize you from Gryffindor."
"Not surprising since I don't go to Hogwarts," said Aevum, "But this isnt the place to speak. Come with me."
"Why would we do that?" growled Ron, "You could be a Dark Wizard!"
Aevum snorted and shook his head.
"Damn Wizards, so obsessed with light and dark," he muttered, before speaking up, "Look, come with me or don't, I really don't care. However…"
He looked straight into Harrys eyes, a slight gold gleam appearing from under his fringe.
"If you wish to know the reason your parents were killed then you won't pass this up."
Harry rocked back, surprised by the unexpected statement.
"What do you mean?" asked the green eyed boy.
Aevum just smirked and turned on his heel and began to walk away, followed by his butler. Harry hesitated for a moment, before steeling himself and following after the bronze haired boy.
"Harry, what are you doing?!" demanded Ron.
"He said he could tell me why my parents were killed," said Harry, "I gotta know what he meant by that."
Without another word, the young Wizard took of after Aevum, ignoring his friends calls to come back.
Harry ran through the campsite, desperately trying to find the strange young man who had somehow managed to vanish completely, despite the relatively short time between him leaving and Harry going after him. Suddenly, a swallow came swooping out of the sky and came to a stop in front of Harry, making him skid to a stop. The bird appeared to be a perfectly ordinary swallow, with black feathers and a white underbelly with black markings. The bird chirped at Harry, before turning and flying away. The green eyed teen blinked, before shrugging and following the little bird, inwardly musing that this wasn't the weirdest thing he'd ever done.
The swallow lead Harry to a small tent on the edge of the campsite that was surrounded by five small wooden posts with paper tags attached. Sat cross legged in front of the tent with a small table at his side and a sheathed katana across his lap was the mysterious bronze haired teen Harry had been looking for.
"About time you got here," said Aevum, opening his eyes, "So, I'm guessing you want to know what I know?"
Harry nodded.
"In that case, take a seat."
Aevum indicated to the ground across from him where a cushion sat, apparently waiting for Harry. Harry took the indicated seat. As he did, the swallow Harry had been following swooped down and landed Aevums outstretched hand, before vanishing in a puff of smoke and turning into a paper tag.
"Excellent work, my Shikigami," said the bronze haired boy, before putting the tag down, "Now, to ensure that we go uninterrupted, I call upon the Spirits of the Five Elements, oh Gods of Light and Darkness, seal this place until our business is finished. ORDER!"
At his command, the tags on the posts began to glow and shot out beams of light that connected each post, creating a pentagram, before a multicoloured wall of light shot up, just in time for Ron to slam face first into it with a crunch and get sent flying back. Hermione on the other hand had managed to cross the line before the barrier appeared
"Oh, it looks like your friends have decided to join us," said Aevum, "Would you care to join us Miss Granger?"
He indicated to a second cushion that had appeared next to Harrys.
"What about Ron?" asked the bookworm, looking at the prone form of her red-headed annoyance where he lay with swirls in his eyes.
"He'll be fine," said Aevum, "Now, I'll answer any questions you may have."
Harry took a deep breath in preparation to ask Aevum about what he knew, only to be interrupted by machine gun Hermione.
"How did you do that with the bird? How did you make this shield? What was that chant you used? Was it some kind of spell? What did you mean by spirits? Why did you call to the Gods of Darkness? Isnt that Evil? What..?
Aevum blinked in surprise at the sudden barrage of questions, before chuckling and holding up a hand, stopping Hermiones questions.
"I can only answer one question at a time you know," he said, making Hermione blush with embarrassment, "Well, thats not entirely true as I can answer all of your questions with one answer. I'm an Onmyo Mage."
Both Hogwarts students blinked in confusion.
"A what?" they asked simultaneously.
"I've never read anything about that," said Hermione.
"I'm not surprised," said Aevum, "The British Ministry has a habit of denying that any magical forms exist beyond Wanded and labeling those they can't deny as Dark and therefore evil, not that that actually means anything."
"Whats that supposed to mean?" asked Hermione, "Dark is Evil."
"Wrong," said Aevum, "Dark is just that, Dark. Any magic can be used for either good or evil, the only real difference is that Dark Magic tends to come with a price, often a rather steep one that few are actually willing to pay. There is no such thing as Evil Magic, only evil people."
Hermione looked as if she was going to argue, but Harry cut across her.
"You said that you knew why Voldemort went after my parents, right?" he asked, getting a nod, "Please tell me why!"
Aevum eyed Harry for a moment, before sighing.
"Alright, but you might not like what you here," he said, "Shortly before you were born, a Prophecy was made regarding you and Riddle…"
He was cut off by a snort from Hermione.
"A prophicy?" she scoffed, "Thats it?"
"You do know that people who possess the Gift do exist," said Aevum, "I am well aware that Trawlawny is a complete fraud, but the one who made the Prophecy is not. What's more, multiple Seers have made the same Prophecy, myself included."
"Your a Seer?" asked Hermione, clearly still skeptical.
"I'm a descendant of one of the most powerful Seers in history," snapped Aevum, "My family literally holds the power to see the Threads of Fate! Practically all who hold the Gift are related to my family somehow. Plus, I have this."
He lifted his fringe, revealing his hidden eye, making both Hogwarts students recoil in shock. Rather than matching his other eye, the normally hidden orb was gold and looked like a clock face, complete with numbers and moving hands.
"W-what is that?" asked Hermione, her fingers twitching to her wand.
"This is the Futuro Oculus, a magical treasure of my family. It allows me to view any Prophecy made and determine how accurate it is and the Prophecy that resulted in the death of Harry's Parents is."
Harry was silent for a moment, before he asked:
"What did it say?"
Aevum looked at the Green eyed Wizard and took a breath, before speaking in an echoing voice that practically vibrated with magic.
"The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives... the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies..."
Hermione let out a gasp as the last echo faded, the words seeming reluctant to leave. Normally she wouldn't believe in something as ridiculous as foretelling the future, but something about the way Aevum said the words convinced her it was true. It wasn't the fake mystery of Trelawney's voice, instead it held real power and lots of it.
Harry on the other hand was frozen. His Parents were killed over that? It didn't even specify which Dark Lord, which Seventh Month or anything like that! To make matters worse, it was apparent that he would never have peace so long as Voldemort was still alive thanks to this stupid Prophecy.
"No," he whispered.
"Hmm, what was that?" asked Aevum.
"I said no," said Harry louder this time, "I won't accept it! I won't accept this! I refuse to accept that I'm bound to kill Voldemort, I refuse, I refuse, I REFUSE!"
Aevum blinked, before he burst out laughing.
"Whats so funny?" growled Harry.
"You know, thats the exact same thing your Ancestor said," said the bronze haired teen, "He reacted in much the same way and decided to give Fate the finger."
"How do you know that?" asked Hermione.
"This thing holds the memories of all its past users and makes them available to me," said Aevum, tapping his golden eye, "One of my ancestors did much the same thing for yours as I'm doing here and I'll give you the same advice he gave your ancestors. 'Fight all you want, but one way or another, Fate will get her way. If you want to give Fate the finger, you need to become stronger. So unbelievably strong that you can blow away your opponent in a single shot and destroy him utterly. Until then, don't allow others to treat you as a hero, instead tell them where to shove their pedestal and live life for yourself.'"
Harry and Hermione looked at the other teen in surprise, having not expected advice like that.
"And this is where I take my leave," said Aevum, "I've given you all the information I can and the advice you need. All you need to do now is decide what to do with it. And remember, Magic is Magic, there's no Good and Evil, only Magic and those two foolish to understand it. Ta!"
He brought his hands up in a handsign and the barrier began to glow, before a brilliant flash consumed the world, leaving a disoriented Harry and Hermione sitting on the floor before an empty pitch with only a Shikigami tag to show that anything had ever been their to begin with.
And thats the end of this entry. I hope you liked it! I don't think theres really anything I need to say here, other than to ask you all to leave me a review. Until next time!
