Dis Lexics vault of Secrets
Ideas, plot bunnys that won't let go, possible future stories. feel free to pick up the stories if you like them.
And we're back with an answer to The Modern Sorcerers Memorys challenge, rules below:
Raised in an abusive household, Harry's only been able to trust in two things, his mind and his gut. So what happens when Harry finds out that one of them isn't particularly trustworthy? Simple, he shatters the block on his mind and uses the once forgotten memories to make the one who took them away from him suffer.
Requirements:
At some point in his life, Harry was Obliviated.
Whatever memory was Obliviated from Harry is a pivotal life-changing moment in some way.
Anyone can be responsible for the Obliviation, up to you.
As part of the aforementioned life-changing moment, Harry starts making changes in his life.
Morality
Any.
Pairing
Any.
Forbidden
The 'Everything Harry knows is a lie' trope.
Harry just accepting his Obliviation/forgiving his Obliviator.
Harry being Obliviated again throughout the course of the story and not breaking free of it.
Suggestions:
Crossovers. Buso Renkin
It was another form of memory removal, not obliviation. Yep
Minor Conspiracies.
Friend-based Betrayals.
A nice, Good Innocent Dumbledore would be a pleasant change of pace? Yep
I'm also taking a few ideas from DZ2's The Last Straw Challenge, namely how I start it and a few concepts. As mentioned, this is a crossover with Buso Renkin, cus I'm watching it again at the moment and its FUCKING AWESOME! Especially the opening.
Discover Ones Heart
The British summer weather can be extremely unpredictable at times. One minute the sun could be beating down on the hapless humans below, heating up the pavements to the point that they gave of heat waves and turned houses into ovens as many British houses lacked air conditioning, what with the rarity of scorching summers, the next, the heavens opened and dropped an entire lakes worth of water on Little Whinging, which also happens to be where our story begins.
It begins with one Harry James Potter, who was running in the direction of home through the downpour with his obese, dim and despised cousin, Dudley Dursley as they turned the corner into the underpass that lead to Privet Drive from Magnolia Crescent where the two paused to catch their breath, Dudley more than Harry as his less than healthy eating habits, plus the cigarettes he smoked made running for long distances hard. Now normally Harry would have just left Dudley their and headed home on his own, so as to avoid being locked out by his Uncle and so he didn't have to spend to long with his cousin, but tonight was different. Harry wasn't sure what it was, but something was setting him on edge.
The green eyed wizard stiffened as he heard footsteps echoing around the underpass as a figure appeared at the end of the tunnel, walking towards them. Harrys hand moved to his wand. As the stranger got closer, Dudley looked up from where he was bent over panting.
"Whos that?" he asked.
Harry narrowed his eyes as the person stepped into the light of one of the flickering lights that lit up the underpass, revealing it to be an average looking woman with large glasses, wearing a simple looking dress and shoes. He could have sworn he had seen her somewhere before, but for the life of him he couldn't remember where. The woman stopped a few meters away from the two teens and stared at them for a moment, before her lips curved up into an eerie grin that made them both take a step back.
"Looks like this is my lucky day," she said in a high pitched voice that made Harry want to claw at his ears, "Not only do I find the boy my Master wants, but I also get a fat little morsel for myself!"
Harry stiffened at that, pulling out his wand as his heart gave a nearly painful thump.
"W-what is this feeling?" thought the green eyed Wizard, "Just looking at this person is making my heart hurt. And what does she mean 'morsel'? Just what is she?"
Dudley on the other hand didn't seem to pick up on the sheer amount of bloodlust the woman was putting off, but no one had ever credited the pig with good survival instincts.
"What are you talking about Freak?" demanded the pig, clenching his fat fists.
The woman giggled and Harry's eyes picked up something strange about her skin. There were faint green lines crisscrossing over it, slowly spreading across her body and the strange mark on her forehead.
"Oh don't you worry little pig," she said, her smile widening and revealing a set of razor sharp fangs, "Soon you won't have anything to worry about at all. Cus you're going to be my dinner!"
With the final word, the woman's body seemed to explode, expanding up and out into a huge, mechanical looking snake that struck with blinding speed at the suddenly terrified Dudley, swallowing him in less time than it took Harry to blink.
"*Gulp* Ah, much better," hissed the monster as a tentacle like tongue with the woman's head on the end extended from its mouth, "I've been searching for so long I have hardly had any time to eat."
It turned to look at Harry, how was frozen in place at the sudden transformation and attack.
"Now, why don't you be a good little boy and come with me?" it hissed, "My master is waiting and it does no one any good to keep him waiting."
That snapped Harry out of his trance and he wheeled around, sprinting for the end of the tunnel, shooting a few cutting and bludgeoning curses over his shoulder as he went. There was no way he was letting this monster take him back to whatever it called master. He heard the monster let out a shriek of pain as the spells hit, not that he looked back.
However, he didn't get more than a few meters before the monsters tail slammed into him, throwing him into the wall of the tunnel with a nasty crunch. Harry gasped and coughed in pain, spitting out a clump of bloody spit as he slid down the wall. The serpentine monster loomed over Harry, who watched in horror as the damage done by his spells repared itself at incredible speed.
"Foolish child, those little tricks won't work on me," hissed the monster, "This body was created with Alchemy and only the power of Alchemy can damage it!"
"Alchemy?" whispered Harry as something stirred in the back of his mind.
FLASHBACK
Harry sat slumped against the Mirror of Erised, his eyes wide and unseeing as blood leaked from the corner of his mouth and black sludge ran from his scar. Resting in his limp hand was the artifact he'd retrieved from the mirror, a hand sized medallion with a hexion in the middle, stamped with the Alchemical symbol for Amalgam and the letters VII. Kneeling beside the downed boy, a look of grief on his face was the white haired Headmaster.
"I'm so sorry Harry," said the old man, "I came too late, did to little. I had no idea Tom would go this far, but I suppose I should have known better."
He looked down at the medallion and his face hardened.
"It's my fault you died down here, but your journey will not end here," said the Headmaster, taking the medallion, "My time as a Warrior has long since ended, my body is far too old to fight any longer. However, I believe I can save one more life with the power of Alchemy. This Kakugane will grant you new life by reacting to your instincts and operating as a new heart."
He pressed the Kakugane to Harrys chest above his heart and watched as it sank into him. After a second of nothing happened, Harrys body jerked slightly and he started breathing again as the Kakugane activated in response to his will to live and took over as his heart.
"This new life is yours to live Harry James Potter," said Dumbledore, getting to his feet and gazing down at the boy, "The Kakugane will see to that. And, in addition to new life, you will gain a new power, one that goes well beyond magic. I hope that you never have to use it, but should you need it, the Kakugane can react to your fighting instincts and create a weapon like no other. Born from your will to live, to protect, to fight. It is called…"
Buso Renkin.
FLASHBACK END
The snake monster lunged at Harry, mouth wide open and fangs extended, dripping with venom, for something to flash out and wrap around it, flinging it across the tunnel and into the wall, digging deep cuts into its scales.
"W-what the hell was that?" groaned the monster, "Why does it hurt so much? He shouldn't be able to damage me!"
It struggled to lift its head and look over at Harry, only to freeze, its eyes widening in disbelief and fear as they fell on the green eyed boy. Slowly orbiting the boy was a pair of chains made up of countless black, hexagonal links that gleamed menacingly in the dim light of the tunnel. Both chains ended with a razor sharp spike at one end and a metal snakes head with glowing green, hexagonal eyes at the other, one of which was embedded in the monster's side as its razor sharp links bit into her scales.
"A-a Buso Renkin!" stuttered the monster, "B-but how? How could someone like him have a Buso Renkin!?"
"A chain Buso Renkin eh?" said a familiar voice as a new person stepped from the shadows in behind Harry, "It suits you Harry."
The green eyed boys eyes widened as the figure stepped in front of him.
"H-Hermione?" he asked.
His female friend glanced back at him and winked, before turning back to the Monster that had finally managed to shuck Harrys chain.
"Hey Harry, they'll be time for explanations later," she said, "For now, I have a Homunculus to destroy. Buso Renkin."
The medallion in her hand opened up and glowed brightly, before s huge blade of glowing energy shot out and sliced the monster in half.
"Buso Renkin of the Supercomputer, Divine Grimoire," said Hermione as the light faded, revealing that her Buso Renkin was a silver covered book that was projecting blue screens covered in information.
"GAAHHH, DAMN IT, YOU'RE AN ALCHEMIST WARRIOR!" screamed the monster as the book fired a barrage of blue energy blades that cut straight through it like it wasn't even there, finally destroying the mark on its forehead, causing it to stop moving.
Harry watched in awe as his friend obliterated the monster with ease, its remains rapidly turning to dust, revealing an unconscious Dudley Dursley who was apparently none the worse for wear, despite having been eaten. Hermione shut the book with a sigh and turned to Harry with a smile.
"Hey Harry," she said, "Sorry I haven't sent you many letters, I've been on missions."
"What the hell was that thing?" asked Harry, "And what do you mean missions?"
Hermione sighed as the book in her hand vanished, transforming back into the medallion it came from.
"Look, I'll explain everything later, right now lets just get your cousin home and get your things."
Harry blinked.
"What?"
"You didn't think I'm here by accident, did you?" asked Hermione, "Professor Dumbledore sent me to collect you. He was not happy when he arrived at HQ and found out you were still here."
"Wait, you mean I was supposed to be out of here already?" asked Harry.
"Yep, you were only supposed to be here for a fortnight to recharge the Wards," said Hermione, "He meant to come and pick you up himself after time was up, but something came up out of the country and he had to rush off. He left instructions to pick you up, but they somehow ended up ignored."
Harry opened his mouth to ask another question, but a loud groan from Dudley interrupted him.
"Look, we can play 20 questions later, but right now we really should get him home and get away from here," said Hermione.
Harry nodded and bent down to pick up Dudley as Hermione took the other side.
After lugging the fat pig home and informing his relatives that he was leaving, Harry and Hermione packed up his trunk, before heading outside and walking to the park.
"Alright, we have some time before the Portkey activated, so I'll answer any questions you might have," said Hermione as she sat down on one of the swings.
Harry took a seat next to her.
"OK, first question is, what in the world was that thing?" he asked.
"That was a Homunculus," said Hermione.
"A Homunculus?" asked Harry, "Is that some kind of Dark Creature?"
"Not exactly," said Hermione, "Maybe I should start from the beginning. You know what Alchemy is, correct?"
"Yeah, its what was used to create the Philosopher's stone," said Harry.
"Thats right," said Hermione, "The science of Alchemy was dedicated to creating a method of transmuting base metals like Lead to Gold and to create the Elixir of Life. However, both of these branches of research failed. The only person to have succeed in his experiments was Nicholas Flamel and he was so horrified by what he discovered that he destroyed his research and vowed to ensure that no one could ever replicate it. Other than Flamal, the only other things that Alchemy created were the Homunculi and these, the Kakugane."
She held out the medallion she'd used to summon her book.
"The Homunculi were the result of experimentation into artificial life, while the Kakugane were created from weapons development. Both were determined to be far too dangerous for general use and the knowledge was sealed away, limited only to those deemed worthy of the knowledge of the secrets of Alchemy."
"But what are Homunculi?" asked Harry, "I mean, how are they created?"
"They are made from tissue samples of living things," said Hermione, "I don't know what the process is so don't ask, but they are initially tiny things, only 3cm across and are so fragile that they have to be kept in a special Alchemical formula just to survive. However, once one is implanted into a human host, it takes over the brain, destroys the original person and transforms the body into a man eating monster."
Harry gulped.
"So that thing…"
"Was once a human being," finished Hermione, "However, before you feel too guilty, remember that the person she once was is long dead."
The two fell silent, one trying to assimilate the new world view he'd just been given, the other giving her friend time to absorb everything he'd just been told. After a few seconds, Harry spoke up again.
"Say, Hermione, what was that thing you used against the Mons...Homunculus?" he asked.
"My Buso Renkin, Divine Grimoire," answered Hermione, "Buso Renkin are born from the instincts of their wielder through the use of a Kakugane. That chain you summoned is your Buso Renkin."
"Wait, how can I have one?" asked Harry, looking confused, "I don't have a Kakugane."
"Actually, you do," said Hermione, pointing at Harrys chest above his heart, "You don't remember this, but after your fight with Quirrell in our first year, Riddles Shade attacked you and damaged your heart beyond repair. In order to save your life, Professor Dumbledore replaced your Heart with a Kakugane."
Harry swallowed and placed a hand over his head, feeling the strong heartbeat beneath his skin. Did that sound really come from a foreign object? One that he knew nothing about? The very idea of an object keeping someone alive in such a manner sounded completely insane.
Hermiones watch suddenly beeped, breaking Harry from his breakdown.
"Harry, I know this has all been a bit much for you to take in, but we need to go," said Hermione, getting to her feet and pulling a length of rope from her pocket, "Here, grab your trunk and take this."
Harry did as he was told as the rope began to glow blue, before he felt the familiar hook behind his navel and was yanked away.
And I'm going to end it their. So, Harry's heart has been replaced by plot point fodder, Dumbles is good, Hermione is an Alchemist Warrior and it seems that Harry may have some rather dangerous foes. I doubt I have any fellow Buso Renkin fans (Although I should because the Anime is FUCKING AWESOME!), but for those who do like the Anime, a few points.
Hermiones Buso Renkin is a supercomputer made with Alchemy that can wirelessly hack into any computer system short of the Enterprise, giving her nearly unlimited access to all sorts of information and control over practically every computer system in the world. It can also hack into Wards, allowing her to control them or create a Marauders Map sort of thing. For both functions she needs to be within a reasonable distance of the source, so she can't hack Hogwarts Wards from London for example. Its special property is producing hardlight constructs, which she uses in combat.
Harrys takes the form of bladed chains that resemble Hazamas Nox Nyctores from Blazblue. They can extend and replicate endlessly, but if they get too long or too many in number Harry starts to lose the ability to fluidly manipulate them. They also don't have much strength behind them, so are less effective against heavily armoured targets their numbers. Think the Valkyrie Skirt.
Harrys memory loss was a result of a combination of having his heart destroyed, the Horcrux in his heart destroyed and suffering massive magical exhaustion from disintegrating Quirril. Basically Amnesia brought on by intense trauma.
And with that out of the way, its time to sign off with one final word. Deadpool is fucking hilarious. That is all.
