Pokemon: Mass Effect

Unknown Planet, Unknown System, Unown Ruins

Liara T'soni leaped from the shuttle and sprinted towards the entrance of the dig site a few meters away, eager to see what had caused her old friend to call her. Two weeks ago, the Asari Xenoarchaeologist had received a message from one of her old University friends about a rather unusual ruin he had been excavating out in wild space. It wasn't a Prothean Ruin, but her friend had still asked her to come help him try to figure out what they could about the site.

"Miss T'soni, slow down!" called her companion, a Turian her mother had forced her to bring along as security.

Saren Arterius was actually a member of the Turian military and a damn good soldier that had been picked out as a Spectre candidate in a few years, but Benezia had pulled some strings to get the young Turian as Liaras bodyguard for the duration of this trip.

"Sorry," said the young Asari, "But this is so exciting! The Protheans are fascinating, but finding something new…"

She let out an excited squeal and practically skipped towards the entrance of the dig, leaving an exasperated Turian to follow. Unnoticed to the two Citadel Aliens, there arrival hadn't been completely unnoticed. Just inside the treeline, hidden from view behind one of the thick trunks of the huge plants that covered nearly the entire planet, a small shadow watched as they entered the ruins.

"Mew."

"Amazing," murmured Liara, scanning the walls of the ruin as they made their way through its dusty halls.

Unlike what she was used to with Prothean Ruins, this one was clearly truly ancient as it was made of yellow sandstone and carved with murals depicting a number of different creatures, as well as strangely formed pictograms that she assumed were letters of some kind. Eventually, Liara and Saren reached a chamber deep in the ruins where they found a Salaren wearing his special version of survival gear using his Omnitool to snap pictures of the pictograms.

"Spencer!" called Liara.

The Salaren jumped and turned around, smiling when he saw Liara.

"Liara, its been far too long," he said, "And this is?"

He turned his large eyes on Saren.

"This is Saren, my mother forced me to bring him along," said Liara.

"I don't know why she bothered," said Spencer, "This system is so far out of the way no one even knows its here and the wildlife on this planet are incredibly friendly."

As if summoned, a little blue creature with a white ruff around its neck and big, yellow eyes hopped up onto Spencer's shoulder.

"Froakie!" it said.

"What is that?" asked Saren, eyeing the creature warily.

"Not sure, but I call it Froakie," said Spencer, "I met it shortly after I arrived, going through my supplies. I tried to get it to leave, but it just kept coming back , so I decided to just let it be. I've become a bit attached to be honest."

"So, why did you call me here Spencer?" asked Liara.

"You were always the best at translating pictograms," said Spencer, "My systems are having trouble translating these carvings, so I was hoping you could offer your expertise."

"I'll try," said Liara, "Can I have access to your research?"

Spencer indicated to the terminal that was set up in the corner of the chamber.

"Go for it."

He turned back to the wall he was studying, leaving Liara to move over to the computer and boot it up.

"How long is this likely to take?" asked Saren, still not taking his eyes of Froakie, who was still perched on Spencers shoulder.

"As long as it takes," said Liara, glancing at her guard, "Translating ancient languages is not a quick process."

She turned back to the computer, only to come face to face with a skull.

"Duskull!"

"AHHHHHHHH!" screamed Liara, tipping back of her chair as she threw herself back.

Saren spun around, his sidearm flashing into his hand to point at the skull, which was actually the face of a small, black creature with a single red eye that had phased through the wall behind the computer to scare Liara.

"What in the Spirits name?" spluttered Saren, "What is that thing?"

"Duskull!"

The ghostly creature seemed to laugh as it floated out of the wall, before it glowed pink and changed into a little, pink creature with pointed ears, big blue eyes and a long tail.

"Mew," it chirped, zipping in circles around Liara, before stopping and nuzzling against her cheek.

"Cute," murmured the Maiden, making the little creature chirp happily as she rubbed between its ears.

As Liara petted the little pink creature, she found her eyes drawn to one of the carvings on the wall behind it. The Asari let out a gasp and scrambled to her feet, moving to get a closer look, looking between the carving and the creature.

"That carving, I think it depicts this little one," she said.

Spencer, who had come running over when Liara had screamed, blinked and looked.

"You're right," he said, "I wonder if it has some kind of cultural significance?"

"Who cares?" grumbled Saren.

"It could help us figure out the meanings of these carvings," said Liara, turning her gaze onto some of the other creatures carved into the walls, "They all could hold cultural significance. Like these."

She pointed at a vast creature with what looked like huge wings surrounded by stylised waves, a massive creature that looked vaguely like a Varren with spikes down both sides and massive claws surrounded by what looked like mountains and a huge serpentine creature hovering over both.

"With such prominence, they must be incredibly important."

"Pah, probably just some primitive gods," said Saren dismissively.

"Mu, the Weather Trio are no fun!" said a childish voice, "The Lake Trio are much better at playing!"

The three council aliens jumped at the sudden voice and looked around wildly, both Saren and Spencer grabbing their weapons.

"Who's there?" demanded Saren.

In answer, the little pink creature floated up in front of him and poked him with its tail.

"Mews right here meanie," said the voice.

Three sets of startled eyes turned on the little critter.

"You can talk?" asked Liara hesitantly.

"Of course Mew can talk!" said the now identified Mew, "What kind of Pokemon are you? Mew's never seen Pokemon like yous before."

"What's a Pokemon?" asked Spencer, sounding extremely interested.

"Mew is a Pokemon silly!" said Mew.

Before any of the confused aliens could respond, the Pokemon cocked its head on one side and looked off down one of the corridors.

"Oh, new friends!" it chirped, taking off down the dark hall.

"Hey wait!" called Liara, taking off after the little pink creature.

"Miss T'soni, wait!" shouted Saren, running after his charge with Spencer and Froakie on his heels.

They ran through the corridors, eventually ending in another chamber like the one they had just left where part of the ceiling had caved in, blocking off the passage. Mew was floating in front of the blockage, practically quivering with excitement as it looked at the rocks expectantly. Liara and her companions entered the chamber and caught their breath, before the Asari Maiden looked up at the pink Pokemon.

"Why did you run?" she asked.

"Mew smells new friends!" said Mew, pointing a paw at the blockage.

Liara frowned and approached the wall. As she got closer, she heard the sound of tapping on the other side.

"Somethings on the other side," she said.

"Really?" asked Spencer, "We couldn't find a way through there. I wonder if there's another entrance somewhere else?"

Liara frowned as the tapping stopped and she heard a deep voice speaking in a language she didn't recognize.

"Oh to hell with this," said the voice, "Swampert, use Rock Smash!"

"Wait you fool!" shouted another voice, this one sounding higher.

"SWAMPERT!"

Liaras eyes widened as she heard something large pounding down the corridor on the other side of the cave in, before throwing herself to the side, just as a huge, blue creature came smashing through the rocks, sending shards of stone flying everywhere like shrapnel. Liara covered her head with her arms to protect herself, but lowered them when nothing hit her. Floating in front of her was Mew, a large, pink shield projecting out around it, deflecting the razor sharp bits of stone.

"IDIOT!"

Liara flinched and looked in the direction of the voice, only for her eyes to widen as she saw two creatures she'd never seen before in the passage that had previously been blocked. They looked remarkably like Asari, only with pink skin and fur on top of there heads. The one that had shouted was the one that looked most like an Asari, with the same figure clearly visible under her red tank top and dark blue shorts. Her fur was dark brown and reached her mid back, held back with a red cloth with a white design on it. Sat on her shoulder was a little purple pyjak like creature with a yellow face, belly and three fingered hand on its tail. She was stood with her hands on her hips, glaring down at her companion, who was on its knees, holding its stomach.

This creature looked like how many people imagined a male Asari would. He was slim, but his bare arms looked well toned. He wore a red and black short sleeved shirt, black shorts and a white cloth over his head that showed a few tufts of brown fur sticking out from under the edge.

"Goddamn it May, what the hell was that for?" groaned the male.

"SHUT UP BRANDON!"

His head snapped back as his companion nailed him in the chin with her foot.

"What kind of an idiot just smashes his way into priceless ruins like that?!" continued the female, "You could have brought the whole place down on our heads!"

"Er, May," said the male, who had apparently noticed the Asari, Turian and Salarian who were all staring at the unknown Aliens in shock.

"Quiet. You may not care about your life, but I certainly care about mine!"

"May?"

"Or did you forget about."

"MAY!"

"What?"

The male just pointed past his companion, who turned and froze at the sight of the aliens.

"Errr, this is awkward," she said.

And I'm going to end this here. This idea is just one I've had rattling around for a while. My original idea was to use the standard alternate first contact war scenario and include things like entire squads of Turians getting blasted to pieces by Pokemon they piss off when occupying the Humans planet and Humans being incredibly hard to kill, like they are in Pokemon, but the World of Pokemon isnt really conducive to war scenarios.

This idea basically has Liaras group and the Humans being on opposite sides of the ruins and eventually meeting in the middle. The Humans would probably use some variation of the Link Cable thing from Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby for FTL.

May and Brandon are based on the protagonists of Ruby/Sapphire, only older.

Liara makes friends with a Mew. Hmm, that could be interesting… As was the idea I had where Saren meets a Lucario or a Dioxys Heartstone or whatever its called.

Mew can talk because its a psychic type and a legendary. Also, because I say so!

Anyway, I'm going to sign out here, leave a review!
