Dis Lexics vault of Secrets

Ideas, plot bunnys that won't let go, possible future stories. feel free to pick up the stories if you like them.

This idea is a sort of sequel to my Knights of Heaven series, set a couple hundred years after the end of the story However, since the average lifespan of the People is 1000 years, many of them will still be appearing. I don't think they'll be any outright spoilers for what I've written, other than the fact they beat the Darkness. Anyway, enjoy!

Relay 314, 57th Turian Patrol Fleet

Captain Akits Learchus of the Solar Talon was board. The 57th Patrol Fleet had been doing their job and patrolling their assigned sector of space for the past two months and it was beginning to grate. There was absolutely nothing out here other than a lot of floating rocks. Akits was a good Turian and never complained about his orders, no matter how bad they may be, but Spirits above he was board.

"Oh Spirits, I'd do anything for something interesting to happen!" he muttered.

Be careful what you wish for. At that moment, the Turian assigned to the sensors let out a yelp of shock.

"Sir, the primary relay in this system has gone active!" he shouted.

Instantly, the Captain was back on alert.

"Send a message to Admiral Orthon and bring the fleet to a stop," he ordered, "We don't know what's on the other side, so we need to wait for reinforcements."

"Yes sir!"

It didn't take long for the rest of the Patrol Fleet to arrive, including the flagship and Dreadnought, the Resolute Spirit. Shortly after the last of the ships arrived, Admiral Orthon opened communications to the Talon

"Whats the situation Captain?" asked the Admiral, not mincing words.

"Sir, the Relay activated approximately 15 minutes ago, apparently from the other side," said Akits, "Since then there has been no activity."

"Very good, all ships form up and follow me through the Relay," said the Admiral, "We need to discover what it was that activated the Relay."

"Sir!"

The ships of the patrol fleet swiftly formed up into the standard, battle ready set up, with the capital ships at the back, cruisers in front and frigate wolf packs to pick off anyone foolish enough to get to close. Once the fleet was in position, they moved forwards and made the jump. As soon as they exited the Relay, they knew they weren't dealing with any pirates who had decided to find a hidden base as they saw the fleet of unknown ships arrayed before them. There were about 10 floating around the gas giant the Relay orbited. They were shaped like crescents with prongs emerging from the front between the horns of the crescents. Akits guessed they were likely weapons. They were all made of white metal with black markings and green patterns on the prongs.

"Spirits," whispered Akits as he stared at the arrayed ships, wide eyed.

Over on the Resolute, Admiral Orthon was more interested in the information the scanners had revealed. According to the scans, none of the arrayed ships had any trace of Element Zero in them whatsoever. That meant that they had a race that had only just made it into space and this had to be their homeworld. That meant that, if they moved now, they could add a new client race to the Hierarchy.

"Sir, we're being hailed," said the Turian on coms, "Should I send the First Contact Package?"

"No, ignore them," said Orthon.

"Sir?"

"They broke Citadel law," said Orthon, "Not to mention that they are clearly primitive if they're lack of Eezo is anything to go by. As the peacekeepers of the Citadel Council, it is our duty to ensure that these primitives don't hurt themselves or others."

"Sir, what are you saying?" asked Corventis, Orthons XO, feeling a chill go up his spine, "You don't actually intend to…"

"Target those ships and open fire," said the Admiral, ignoring his second in command.

The Turian fleet obayed, sending a wave of Mass Driver rounds at the alien ships. The attack took the enemy fleet by surprise and tore through them like so much wet paper, reducing most of them to floating wrecks. A second volley finished the job and Orthon ordered the ships to scan the system and locate the new races supposed homeworld. It didn't take long to find the only inhabited planet in the system and the Turian fleet converged on it, releasing drop ships full of soldiers to pacify the locals.

Sol System, Earth, Royal Palace, Atlantis.

"WHAT?!" roared the King of Earth, slamming both hands down on the table in front of him, "What do you mean Shanix has been attacked?"

He was a young looking man with spiky, black hair that stuck up around his head like a lions mane, black eyes and pale skin. He was clad in a green silk shirt, black trousers and a long jacket with the symbol of Earth splashed across the back. Around his neck he wore a crescent shaped pendant made of white stone that seemed to glow with an inner light.

"Just that Boss," said the messenger who had brought the information, a young woman with long, golden blond hair tied in a side ponytail, brown eyes and lion ears and tail, clad in the uniform of the Royal Guard, a white dress uniform with gold piping and the crest of Earth on the back, "A fleet of unknown ships came through the Device the explorers found and immediately destroyed the research fleet with no warning."

The Kings jaw worked for a moment, before he suddenly slammed his head into the table.

"I should have seen this coming," he groaned, "I am a total idiot."

"No argument here," said the woman with a toothy grin.

"Shut it Lucy," growled the King.

Lucy just stuck her tongue out at the annoyed monarch. The King sat up and inhaled deeply, before his eyes sharpened and he straightened in his seat. Immediately, Lucy snapped to attention, recognizing that her Master was now in full Royal mode.

"Has the message been relayed to the other Houses and Queen?" asked the King.

"Yes your Majesty, all the Houses have been made aware," said Lucy, "However, as Shanix is a colony under Earth's jurisdiction, Queen Serenity has instructed us to take the lead."

"Good, in that case, I want a list of all ground forces on Shanix."

A screen popped up on the desk in front of the King with the requested information. The Ruler quickly scanned the list, clucking in disapproval.

"Lucy, who was it that designated the security of Shanix?" he asked, "This is abysmal!"

"It was Udina sir," said Lucy.

"Why am I not surprised?" grumbled the King, "I'll deal with that idiot later. For now, send a message to General Williams. He is to evacuate the Colony and enact Shadow protocol until reinforcements arrive. If needed, he is to place the safety of the Civilians over all else, even if that means he has to surrender."

"Yes sir," said Lucy, making notes on a tablet, "What reinforcements should we send?"

"Will Serenity give us Hackett?"

"Of course she will," said a new voice as the doors of the office opened to emit an elderly man with steel coloured hair and sharp blue eyes.

He stepped up beside Lucy and snapped a sharp salute.

"Grand Admiral Hackett of the Silver Armada reporting for duty Lord Black."

The King rolled his eyes.

"Alright, I should have known," he said, "Very well, the First Fleet will deploy at once and make for Shanix with all speed. As for Ground Forces, I want the 510th legion to deploy at once."

"Er, are you sure thats a good idea?" asked Lucy, looking up from her pad, "I thought we wanted to save the colony and those nuts are liable to destroy it."

"True, but they are also very good at winning very quickly, even if its just by utterly confusing the enemy to the point that they surrender rather than having to put up with the headache," deadpanned the King.

"You just want those morons out of the system, don't you?"

The King just gave his subordinate a flat look.

"Shutting up now."

The King muttered something under his breath and waved the two soldiers off. They saluted and left to carry out their orders, leaving the King to get to his feet and walk over to the massive windows that overlooked the vast gardens that surrounded the palace. He was pissed. At the Turians who had attacked his people, at Udina, the idiot who had been responsible for setting up the colony and had neglected to give it decent defences, but most of all, he was pissed at himself. Now, most would think that getting annoyed at oneself when there was no way of knowing an alien invasion was coming was a wee bit stupid, but King Leo Black of Earth was not most people. He was an Outsider, a being reborn into a world they know to be fiction. The future knowledge he had in his head had served him well in his youth, although it had become less useful as time went by, but after the defeat of the God of Destruction, Lord Ka, Leo had believed that he wouldn't need that knowledge any more. Even after he had received the report of the discovery of the Mass Relay in the Shanix system, he had shrugged it off, not wanting to accept what he knew was likely to happen. And now his people were dying.

Suddenly, Leo was drenched by a deluge of water that appeared out of thin air above his head, making him yelp in surprise and spin around, his black hair plastered to his head. Unfortunately, that put him off balance so the small missile that slammed into his legs made him overbalance and fall on his behind, allowing the missile to wrap its tiny arms around his neck.

"Gwandpa all wet!" said the toddler, a little girl with short red hair and big, green eyes.

Now, one might wonder how a man who looks like he's in his early thirties at most could possibly have a granddaughter without some really fucked up and traumatic past or timetravel. Well, the truth is that the answer was neither. While Leo had technically been born Human, his reincarnated Soul was that of the Sylven, a very old and powerful race of nomads who were eventually stranded in the Sol system following a tragedy that nearly obliterated them. This race had a lifespan of 1000 years, meaning that Leo was a lot older than he looked. Of course, following an event that happened in Leos youth, almost the entire Human race had undergone a metamorphosis that left them part way between Human and Sylven with only those without a drop of Sylven blood in them untouched, which was only about 1000 people worldwide, leaving them in an extremely strange situation of aging and maturing at the same rate as Humans, meaning about 20 years, before freezing like that for the next 980 years, with only a very small amount of physical aging occurring until the end of their lives. That had been just over 300 years ago.

Since then, the Silver Millennium, the Sylvens ancient Kingdom before it had been destroyed, had been rebuilt, with the Human race (which they still thought of themselves) spreading throughout the Solar System and then, later, to beyond, spreading across the stars thanks to the advanced technology of the Sylvens they had found in the vast servers hidden on Mercury.

Anyway, back on track. Leo chuckled and stood, taking his giggling Granddaughter with him in his arms, before walking over to the woman who had entered from the side door that led to the private apartments of the Royal Families.

"Was that really necessary?" asked Leo, glaring at the woman who was holding a staff that wouldn't look out of place in the hands of a Magical Girl.

"Yes, yes it was," said Holly Black, spinning her staff around her fingers like a baton, "I saw the look on your face. You were blaming yourself for not predicting the attack."

Holly had grown from a cute girl to a gorgeous woman, having inherited her looks from both her equally gorgeous Mother and her heritage as a Black on her Father's side who, when not utterly insane, all enjoyed great beauty. Her long, ebony hair fell to the small of her back, while her large, emerald eyes that both her daughter and granddaughter had inherited, sparkled with mischief. She was dressed casually in a white sundress and sandals.

"Well it is kinda true," said Leo, "I should have seen it coming but brushed it off."

"More Outsider stuff?" asked Holly, getting a nod from her Husband, "Look, I know how you feel, but there's nothing that can be done now. Well, unless you fancy getting in touch with Hyo and asking to use his time machine."

Leo snorted.

"No thanks, I've got better things to do than deal with that nut."

"Good, in that case, come on. Hannah's shipping out soon since you're sending the First Fleet to deal with the invasion and we're gonna have one more dinner together."

Leo smiled and wrapped an arm around Hollys waist as he followed her back into their living quarters. He'd worry about the Reapers later. After all, he was the guy who'd taken on the God of Destruction and survived. A bunch of robo-squids would be child's play.

Shanix, the Solar Talon bridge

Akits was annoyed. The source of his annoyance was twofold. The first was with Admiral Orthon who had basically just started a war with a foe they knew nothing about, simply to puff up his own ego and gain recognition. It didn't really help that Akits was beginning to suspect that this planet wasn't the new races Homeworld, despite the lack of Eezo in the system and the ships they had destroyed. A great deal of the technology recovered from the settlements on the planet were so strange that the techs didn't even know how to turn the bloody things on, let alone figure out their purpose. This lead to the other thing that was annoying Akits.

Since the Turians had landed on the Planet, they had only barely been able to catch glimpses of the inhabitants when they had appeared, attacked and vanished. They were using extremely effective guerilla tactics to slow down the Turians. It was clear that the ships the Turian fleet had destroyed had managed to get a warning to the planet and the inhabitants had evacuated all of the settlements and vanished to who knows where. That more than anything worried Akits.

While the natives hadn't actually managed to do that much damage to the not insubstantial force the Turians had landed to pacify them, the fact remained that they were getting better at targeting important links in the chain of command, vital structures and more. Plus, Akits got the distinct impression that the people were waiting for something. It was an instinct that had served him well in the past when battling pirates and slavers who had friends they could call on for help, allowing him to make plans, just in case. However, that didn't do him any good when he had no idea what to expect from this new Races ships and Admiral Orthon refused to even entertain the idea that this wasn't there homeworld.

"Sir, we're detecting a massive energy surge coming from near the Planet's moon," said the Turian on the scanners.

"What is it?" asked Akits.

"I don't….WHAT IN THE WORLD?!"

"What? Whats going on?" demanded Akits.

"S-sir, a huge number of massive energy signatures just appeared out of nowhere," said Scanners, "They should be coming into view...now...Dear Spirits!"

Akits found that he couldn't fault his subordinate for that statement as he stared at the armada of vast ships of the same design as the small fleet they had blown away when they arrived, all baring silver designs and a golden crescent moon crest over the white hull. As they emerged from the shadow of the moon, the ships spread out, moving into ready positions around the largest ship. As they did, each ship released a wave of small objects which flew down towards the planet.

"I think we're in trouble," said Akits, staring at the flagship of the new fleet in a kind of resigned horror.

The damn thing was bigger than the Destiny Ascension.

Admiral Orthon's quarters, Resolute Spirit

Orthon was feeling smug. All his life he'd lived in the shadow of his elder brother and Father, both of whom were extremely successful, being a SPECTRE and a Primarch respectively, while he was just the commander of a patrol fleet. Oh sure, the title of Admiral was one to be proud of, but that didn't change the fact that his patrol fleet was small and assigned to an out of the way area of Citadel Space where very little happened. Now however, he'd finally have something to hold over their heads, the fact that he'd been responsible for adding a new client race to the Hierarchy. In other words, he'd started a war over an inferiority complex.

The Admiral sat back in his seat, raising a glass of Turian brandy to himself for his foolproof plan for surpassing his family members. He had just taken a sip when the door to his quarters suddenly slammed open and a frantic looking aide came sprinting into the room.

"Admiral Orthon, a huge fleet of ships just jumped into the System!" shouted the Aide before Orthon could scold the panicked Turian.

"WHAT?!" roared Orthon, slamming his palms down onto his desk in a manner not dissimilar to the ruler of the people he'd attacked, "What the hell do you mean? We destroyed their fleet!"

"I-I know sir, but more ships just arrived," said the Aide, "And there's more. They didn't use the Relay. The appeared near the moon out of nowhere!"

Orthon paled at that as his horrified mind processed that.

"T-thats impossible," he mumbled, "They must have come in cloaked or something."

"Sir, what are your orders?" asked the Aide, having not heard Orthons desperate mumbling.

That question, a familiar one, snapped Orthon out of his funk. He got to his feet and marched out of his quarters in the direction of the bridge.

"Status," he barked as he entered the bridge.

"The unknown ships are holding position," said Corventis, snapping a salute as Orthon took his command seat, "They seem to be releasing something down onto the planet. Scans indicate that they are pods of some kind, likely drop pods."

"Why haven't they been destroyed?" asked Orthon.

"They are too small for our weapons to hit," said Corventis, "And even if they could, there seems to be some sort of jamming field around them that prevents us from getting more than a blurry image of them."

Orthon gave an annoyed scowl.

"I guess we'll have to leave them to Desolas then," he said, turning to look at the view screens that showed the silver armada, "In the meantime, we need to deal with them."

"Sir, it may be best to try to smooth this over," said Corventis, "We have no idea what those ships are capable of and they outnumber us."

"I didn't take you for a coward Corventis," said Orthon.

"But sir…" said Corventis.

"We are Turians," said Orthon, cutting across his XO, "We don't retreat, we don't surrender, we win, no matter what! Some upstart race will not defeat us!"

The other Turians on the bridge cheered while Corventis stifled the urge to shout at his superior for being such a moron in picking a fight with an unknown enemy. Unfortunately, it seemed that the rest of the crew was chomping at the bit to fight so he wouldn't be able to stop this madness. He could only pray that this didn't blow up into a war worse than the Rachni wars.

The Argentum, Flagship of the Silver Armada

Admiral Hackett stared out of the viewport at the alien fleet where it floated around the planet. He wasn't impressed. The enemy ships appeared sleek and streamline and were arrayed in a manner that clearly showed that whoever was in charge knew what they were doing when it came to space combat, but the armour looked flimsy and the weaponry, according to the scans, were nearly all kinetic based.

"Admiral Hackett, all ships are in position and have finished releasing all pods," said his XO and long time protege, Hannah Shepard.

Hackett nodded.

"Very well, order all ships to prepare for combat," said Hackett, "Focus power to kinetic shields and power up weapons."

"Yes sir," said Hannah, using her terminal to relay the Admiral's orders to the fleet.

A subtle tremor ran through the ship as the ships weapons came fully online.

"And so it begins," said Hackett, "Let us unleashed the Hounds of War."

And there we have it. The opening to the pseudo sequel of the Knights of Heaven Saga that I still haven't finished. I don't think there are any spoilers that'll completely ruin the story for the future and what has been revealed may actually get fans thirsty for more.

Leo became king of Earth because his brother became the consort of Serenity/Usagi, meaning he's up on the moon helping keep the entire Silver Millennium running.

Hmm, I wonder what the significance of Leo's granddaughter is. As if you can't all guess.

Anyway, time for me to sign off so leave me some reviews, K?
