Jumping Taylor
When trapped in her personal hell, Taylor wanted nothing more than to get out. What if, instead of bugs, her Shard decided to oblige with a power similar to Doormakers? With the power to travel wherever she wants, just what could Taylor learn to make her a Hero?
Welp, I thought I might as well do an answer to my own challenge, so here it is. Rules, as always, are below:
When trapped in her personal hell, Taylor wanted nothing more than to get out. What if, instead of bugs, her Shard decided to oblige with a power similar to Doormakers? With the power to travel wherever she wants, just what could Taylor learn to make her a Hero?
RULES!
Obviously, Taylors power must be to create portals like Doormaker, but it also comes with the ability to make the destination random.
Her first trip out must dump her in another world with someone who can help her.
She must meet at least one other version of herself.
SUGGESTIONS!
Taylor uses her power to meet people from her faverote books/movies and learn new skills from them.
As part of her power, visiting new worlds gives her something from them to let her improve herself. For example, visiting Naruto makes her grow a Chakra System (and no I dont care that that makes no sense. SPACE WHALE SAYS ITS SO!)
Taylor's innicual disappearance causes people to take a closer look and, by the time she comes back, the Trio have been well and truly hammered.
Taylor brings along some new friends for an Endbringer Fight.
Minor spoilers for my Worm/MHA crossover, Have Quirk, Will Travel, but only insofar as characters who haven't been introduced yet. Enjoy!
Chapter 1
The first day back at school after the winter holidays began bright and early for one Taylor Hebert. She rolled out of bed, stretched like a cat and scratched the scales at the base of her tail as she used the end of said appendage to hook her dressing gown off the back of her desk chair on her way past. Downstairs, she found her Parents already up and awake...sort of. Her Mother looked like she was about to fall asleep in her cereal and her tail and crest were drooping, but that was pretty normal.
"Morning Taylor," said Danny, sliding Annettes bowl away as the exhausted woman finally gave up the ghost and fell asleep, "Sleep well?"
"Yep, like a baby," said Taylor as she dropped into her seat as Danny plonked a plate of breakfast in front of her.
"That's good," said Danny, "Dear, please stop drooling on the table and eat your breakfast."
"But it's too collllld!" whined Annette, grabbing Danny around the arm, "Warm me up Danny!"
"You aren't cold blooded, so that excuse doesn't work," said Danny, lightly wacking his wife with the ladle he was holding.
Annette let go and crossed her arms in a pout.
"Damn, I really wish Zoe hadn't told you that," she grumbled, "I liked being able to stay in bed when it was cold…"
Taylor rolled her eyes as her Parents started bickering. They were always like this, even in public much to her embarrassment.
"If you two are going to act like this, I'm gonna go grab a shower," she said, stuffing the last of her breakfast into her mouth.
"Wake your brother and Sophie up before you do!" called Danny as Taylor jogged up the stairs.
"K!" she called, stopping outside the door next to hers and banging on the wood, "OI LEVI, GET UP IDIOT!"
There was a loud crash on the other side of the door, but Taylor had already moved on to nab the shower before either her brother or his girlfriend could.
20 minutes later, she was done in the shower and stepped in front of her mirror while towelling off her hair. Looking back at her was a tall teenager with curly, dark blue hair and yellow, reptilian eyes. The eyes were rather fitting considering that she had thick, dark blue scales framing her face, standing out starkly against her pale skin. The scales reached down to her throat where they stopped at the front and ran down her spine, ending just above her rear where they met the long, muscled reptilian tail that waved lazily behind her. Her arms and legs were also scaled and her fingers were tipped by short but sharp talons.
Taylor frowned as she twisted in front of the mirror and poked her stomach.
"Hmm, need to start running again," she muttered.
She turned to her cupboard and started getting ready for the day.
One bus ride later, she hopped off the bus and jogged towards Winslow, weaving her way through the press of students heading in with practiced ease as she headed up two floors to her locker. As she approached it, she frowned and sniffed the air. For some reason, something stank and it seemed to be coming from her locker. She stopped in front of the metal door and frowned as she slowly reached for the handle.
"TAYTAY!"
Taylor yelped as a weight suddenly slammed into her back, knocking her forwards.
"Damn it Maddy, don't do that!" hissed the lizard girl as she reached back and pulled the smaller girl off her back.
The girl in question was small, almost to the point where you'd think she wasn't in her last year of Middle School. She had large, green eyes and a tail and ears that looked like they belonged on a tabby cat, not helped by the choker with a bell attached she wore around her neck or the red whisker marks on her cheeks. She was wearing a pleated skirt, stockings and a pink shirt with a cats head on the front. Just in case you didn't catch the cat iconography.
"But I missed nya Taytay!" said Madison, apparently not bothered by the fact the much taller girl was holding her up by the scruff of her neck.
Taylors eye twitched.
"Please don't start with the cat puns this early in the morning," she said.
"I PROMISE NOTHING!"
Taylor sighed and dropped Madison, who landed on her bum with a soft yelp.
"Muu, why so mean Taytay?" whined the cat-girl, "You feline down cus of the first day of school?"
Taylor twitched, but before she could react to the awful pun, a soft laugh made the two girls look around. Stood a short distance away was a pair of girls who, like Taylor and Madison, had animal-like features. One was average height, with long, red hair streaked with grey, bright blue eyes and an 'ahem' mature figure. She was wearing fashionable and clearly expensive clothes and was sporting a set of canid ears and tail, specifically those of a wolf.
The other girl was slightly shorter and had the build of an athlete. She had dark skin, dark blue hair that was pinned back with a rabbit shaped pin, brown eyes and was, for some odd reason, wearing a black collar with white frills, a black, double breasted thigh length vest, a red mini skirt, black stockings supported by garters, red shoes and large wrist cuffs.. She also had rabbit ears and a cottontail barely visible under her skirt and was giving of the air of someone who really wanted to be somewhere else.
For a moment, Taylor and Madison stared at the two girls.
"She got you again, huh Sophia?" asked Taylor.
Sophia Hess's face practically caught fire as she squirmed in embarrassment, not helped in the slightest by Emma Barns grinning brightly, showing off an impressive set of fangs in the process, and grabbed her rabbit eared friend in a tight hug.
"Yup, isn't she adorable?" asked the redhead.
"At least its not a maid outfit again," said Madison.
"Or a playboy bunny outfit," said Taylor, "Although you did pull that off rather well…"
"Please stop before she gets any more ideas!" yelled Sophia, who was now blushing hard enough that the insides of her ears had gone red.
The three girls all laughed and Taylor hopped forwards to give her other friends a big hug.
"Its great to see you guys again!" she said, "I really wish we could have got together during the holidays, but…"
"Yeah, we know," said Emma, "Shit happens and all that."
"On the up side, we're all back together now!" said Madison, before her ever present smile dropped slightly, "Well, kinda."
"Yeah, it does feel kinda weird without Pony," said Emma.
"No, not that," said Madison, "Didn't you here what happened to Ollie and Mars?"
"I heard they got caught up in that weird explosion over in Madison," said Emma with a slight smirk despite the serious topic, "Did something bad happen to them?"
Madison shrugged.
"Yeahhh, apparently they somehow got sucked into an alternate dimension," she said.
Taylor snorted.
"That sounds like the plot to a bad sci fi story," she said as she turned back to her locker and spun the dial.
Then she opened the locker door and was forced to jump back as something fell out. The hall fell silent as every eye turned towards the filth covered girl who had just fallen out of Taylors locker.
"Something you want to tell us Taytay?" asked Madison.
When Taylor Hebert regained consciousness after passing out from a mix of fear, pain and a Trigger Event all induced from getting shoved into a locker full of used feminine hygiene products she was honestly rather surprised. After all, there were plenty of nasty bugs in there with her, some of them poisonous and, while she didn't know exactly how long she'd been in the Locker, she did know it had to have been over two hours before she passed out, plenty of time for the biting bugs to flood her body with poison and, if not them, for her to catch who knows what from the crap. As a result, she was honestly surprised that she woke up feeling great, even if the bed she was laying on rather lumpy.
She shifted slightly and let out a soft groan as she forced her eyes open. And promptly found herself staring into a pair of bright green eyes with power symbols in the middle.
"AHHHH!"
The face was abruptly yanked back as Taylor scrabbled back away from the to-close person and ended up toppling off the bed to land with a crash.
"Damn it Tess, I told you to wait until she was awake before you started scanning her!" shouted a female voice with a distinct french accent, "Why did you even get that close to her?!"
"But I've never seen anything quite like her before!" protested another voice that sounded strangely familiar to Taylor, "I mean, how often do you get to see an honest to god Dimensional traveller in person? She might even be able to help get our missing kids back!"
"And that couldn't wait a few more minutes, why exactly?" growled the first voice, "Honestly, people have a go at Colin for being socially awkward and his inability to read the room, but you're even WORSE!"
"Heh, sorry Doc…"
Taylor finally managed to get her limbs untangled from the bedsheet and pulled herself to her feet. She was in what appeared to be a nurses office of some kind, which was odd considering she'd have thought that her condition would require a hospital visit. The office looked fairly well stocked, with a full cabinet of supplies and a couple of machines she couldn't immediately identify.
Now done with her surroundings, Taylor turned her attention to the sources of the voices. The first voice apparently belonged to a middle aged woman with dark skin and steel gray hair pulled into a severe bun and sharp gray eyes. She was wearing scrubs and lab coat with a name tag that identified her as Dr Mary Castle.
The other woman was...not what she would have expected. For starters, she was clearly a Cape but wasn't wearing a mask. She didn't really look like much, average height with relatively plain features and no obvious ethnicity, with her only distinguishing features being her bright green eyes with the faintly glowing power symbols in the middle. She was wearing a tight bodysuit that served to show off her impressive curves with what appeared to be some form of Tinkertech armour around her hips, boots, gloves and down her spine, ending with a headset that did nothing to hide her face. She also didn't recognise the Cape, which was odd considering that, while not a complete Cape Geek, she was fairly knowledgeable about the local Capes, enough to identify them at least.
Wait, what had the Cape said about alternate dimensions?
Dr Castle let out a huff and turned to face Taylor, who flinched under the rather intimidating woman's look.
"Back on the bed please," she said, "I need to give you another checkup before Tess here grills you on how exactly you managed to get locked in one of our lockers."
Taylor slowly did as she was told as the doctor wheeled a chair over and sat down beside the bed. Dr Castle took off her glasses and seemed to squint. A moment later, Taylor nearly jumped out of her skin as a beam of green light shot out of the woman's eyes and washed over her body.
"Hmm, you really need a more balanced diet, far too much junk food," said Dr Castle, "Other than that, your good. Miss Lavere did good work as always."
She turned to the Cape.
"Shes perfectly healthy now," she said, "Now get out. I'm sure I'll have more patents before to long knowing you lot."
"Jeeze, were not that bad doc," said Tess.
A loud explosion from outside made Taylor jump. Dr Castle fixed Tess with a rather intense glower.
"Ahhh, gotta go," said Tess, "Come on kid, lets go sort this mess out."
Taylor followed the older woman out of the room and down the hall. The moment she stepped outside, she knew she wasn't in Winslow anymore, assuming the nurse she didn't recognise and well stocked infirmary didn't tip her off. It was still clearly a school since they were passing classrooms, but the halls were clean and free of graffiti and there was actually intact glass in the windows when most of Winslows were either cracked, covered in plywood or replaced with cheap plastic.
"Um, if its not too much trouble, can I ask where I am?" asked Taylor.
Tess glanced back at Taylor with a slightly raised eyebrow.
"Your in Winslow Preparatory Middle School," she said and Taylor nearly tripped over her own feet.
"This is WINSLOW?!" she spluttered, "And, wait, Middle School? But…"
Tess sighed as she came to a stop and rubbed her forehead.
"Yeah, I guess things would be different," she said, "Do you mind holding your questions for now? I promise I'll answer them all, but the hallway isn't really a good place to do it."
"I...OK," said Taylor.
Tess nodded and continued down the hall.
Eventually, they reached a door that Tess opened and gestured for Taylor to enter. It turned out to be an office that looked...sterile, suggesting that it wasn't in regular use.
"Have a seat," said Tess, pointing at the chair across the desk as she took the one behind the desk.
Taylor did as she was told while Tess did...something and a number of translucent screens popped up in front of her.
"First up, can I get your name?" asked Tess.
"Um, Taylor Hebert," said Taylor.
The Capes fingers paused for a moment, before she went back to typing.
"Alright, since I need to make this official to keep David off my back, lets get started," she said, "This is Professional Hero Theresa Wallis, code named Dragon, interviewing Taylor Hebert regarding the incident at Winslow Preparatory Middle School. The time is 13:57, 3rd January 2211."
Taylor nearly fell off her chair.
"Wait, WHAAAAT?!" she yelled, "Your Dragon!? And...what was that date?!"
Dragon sighed.
"Yeah, I thought so," she said, "Alright Taylor, theres no easy way to say this, but your not in your world any more."
"W-what?!" gasped Taylor, "But...how!?"
Dragon sighed again.
"Honestly, I have no idea," she said, "All I know is that you have a completely different dimensional signature than everyone else, not to mention having various physiological differences that indicate that your from the 21st century."
Taylor swallowed as her hands clenched under the table. Was that really true? Was she really in another world? No, she had to be. There's no way this could be a prank, not something this elaborate. Oh god, she really was in another world! How was she going to get home? Could she get home? Oh god, what would her Dad do when he discovered she was missing? Losing her Mother had nearly broken him, what would he do now that his Daughter was missing? What could she do in this new world?
A pair of arms wrapping around her shoulders made Taylor freeze. For a moment, she wasn't sure what what was going on, but then her mind caught up and she realized that Dragon was hugging her.
"Don't worry Taylor, your going to be fine," she said, "We'll figure out a way to get you home, I promise."
Taylor sat stock still for a moment, her mouth opening and closing as she tried to absorb what the Hero had said.
"Y-you'd do that?" she asked in a small voice.
Dragon smiled.
"Of course, its a Heroes job to help people, right?" she said.
That did it. Nearly two years of utter loneliness slammed into Taylor at once and the girl burst into tears in the arms of the first person to actually offer to help her in all that time.
Well, I suppose I could go on, but that seems like a good place to end, even if it is a bit short. Before I go, a few points.
Yes, this is the same MHA world the Travelers in HQWT came from, but Taylor isn't from the same version of Bet as they found themselves in. Mainly because I have other plans for her. I might have her visit that world though.
MHATaylor is a smug Lizard. Yes, that is a reference to Taylor Varga. I originally planned to have her be a bee/wasp girl, but this was a better idea.
The outfit Sophia is wearing is the same one Black Rabbit wears in Problem Children. Just to drive home the fact that shes a rabbit. I originally planned to make her a Panther, but this is more fun.
Hmm, I wonder who Levi and Sophie could be? Considering that this is going to have all sorts of things that would make any character from Bet go 'WTF', who do you think they are?
Anyway, I'm done. If I continue with this, next time will involve Taylor meeting Taylor and the Trio and Annette deciding to adopt Taylor. Don't forget to leave a review!
