Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Flames and Sparks . Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own Fire Emblem, Nintendo, Intelligent Systems and a few others do
(Golden Deer Territory.)
Damacus rested his weapon upon his shoulder and turned to look around. There were no warriors, no infrastructure worth taking in this location. It made him question why the Golden Deer had pulled back to this location, however? It was not his call to make, it was Edelgard who was a leader and the warrior who he still questioned it.
"This area is barren, why return here?" Damacus questioned as he rested his weapon on his back. "I cannot believe that their arrogant enough to believe they can defeat us." Damacus stated while he rested the glaive across his shoulders.
"If they were so easy to defeat? They wouldn't be standing here." Edelgard stated while she hummed. "They would have a plan; Claude wouldn't pull his soldiers back here unless he has a strategy." Edelgard added as she looked at her axe a moment later.
She knew for a fact that they were going to be dangerous at the end of the day. The last battle had shown Claude that her Black Eagles would NOT back down from combat and they had drawn blood, something that was interesting to both her and Damacus.
Damacus looked at the woman with a raised eyebrow once more from behind his armor. Damacus looked up at the sky for a moment while running a hand over his poleaxe. Damacus knew for a fact that Claude was a danger, but this woman was a master of combat, and someone who he could trust.
"You should be aware at the moment that I am not an assassin." Damacus put in as he cracked his fingers. "I cannot sneak around the region." Damacus added with a sigh through his plated armor.
"I wouldn't send you on an assassination mission." Edelgard said, planting her axe in the ground. "They would not simply allow Claude to walk around without guards or some sort of escort, it would be rather stupid." Edelgard stated which gained a shrug from the plated warrior.
"He was an archer, yes?" Damacus questioned her as he pondered what the next move was at the end of the road. "Then he's not someone who can take you in a direct fight. A person's combat style says a LOT about their character in combat." Damacus said while he tapped the scythe once more.
Edelgard knew what she meant. Damacus was implying that Claude had been a hands-off command style which was spot on. Claude did NOT ever face an enemy if he could simply kill them from a distance without wasting any of his enemies.
"We have another enemy possible at the moment, yes?" Damacus questioned while he hummed. "A two-way war? This is far more interesting than it appears." Damacus said as he spun his poleaxe while he rubbed at his temples with amusement.
This was going to be a far longer campaign then he had come down to it. Damacus was NOT sure of what had happened to the other faction, there was a far longer and more brutal warrior to be dispatched… The third faction would take a more direct battle style towards them, Damacus was going to reflect on this in some time.
"We should take time to camp and check out the terrain a moment." Damacus stated and got a nod from Edelgard. "Do you want me to look around for assassins or spies?" Damacus questioned with a raised eyebrow at the time.
"No, that will not help much of anything." Damacus heard from Edelgard while he nodded. "We wait, if they come? They will be fought, not a moment before." Edelgard said as he sighed and slowly started to go and help the others set up their camp.
"Do you believe he will remain by our side?" Edelgard heard which got a nod from her as the empress hummed to herself.
"Yes, I'm sure that it will be ok." Edelgard stated to herself and nodded towards the plains in front of him. "Make sure the camp is ok at the moment. I will speak with the others and try and ascertain what the battle will bring." Edelgard added as she plucked her ask from the ground then started to walk away a moment later.
"Yes, your highness." Edelgard heard as she looked while Damacus started to give some simple orders to the guards, unsure what will happen to himself.
There were too many issues for her to focus on anyone or anything more then Claude and his army. She was quite curious what Claude would do when it came down to it, he would not run, would he? Claude knew running would not save him or his army at the end of the day. They would continue to hunt him down once more; she would not allow his army once more to escape.
