It was another important Monday morning for Hank and for Voight Detective Services. Today was the day that Kim Burgess joined the team. On his way to the office, Hank congratulated himself once more on being able to pull that signing off. With both Kim and Erin working under him, he had two of the best detectives he had ever worked with on his books. That ought to guarantee a very high client satisfaction rate, which was crucial for a young, growing business.

When he arrived at the office and parked up out front next to Erin's car, he saw Kim's car also there, and Alexa getting out of her car. She was struggling with four cups of coffee in a disposable carry tray while her phone. The device was wedged between her shoulder and her head.

"Here, let me help you," Hank called after quickly getting out of his car.

"Thank you," she mouthed as he took the carry tray from her while she continued what was evidently a conversation with her husband about their son. "One minute," she said to Hank, meaning before she could head inside to work.

"No rush," he said. "Thanks for the coffee."

Being careful not to spill the drinks, Hank opened the door and entered the building. It was cold inside, telling him that Erin and Kim hadn't been there long because the air con hadn't had time to warm the place up yet.

Next, he opened the door to the bullpen. He found Erin and Kim in there, standing next to Kim's desk in conversation. "Kim, welcome," he said positively. "All ready to get started?"

"Morning, sarge. Uh, Hank, I mean. Sorry, that's going to be a hard habit to break," Kim said, coming over to him.

Handshakes were not their thing. Hugs certainly were not, so he simply took one of the coffees out of the carrier and gave it to her. "Feels weird not being addressed as sarge. We'll both get used to it."

"Thanks," Kim said, meaning for the coffee which she had just tried. Erin also took one.

"Don't thank me, Alexa bought them. I just carried them in for her because she's out there on the phone. Something with her son by the sound of it. You okay, Erin?"

"I'm good. You?" she replied cheerfully.

"Yeah, good. You've got reports to write and some invoices to get to Alexa, right?"

"That's right. Don't worry, I'm on top of it all."

"And what have you got for me?" Kim asked, eager for her first assignment in her new job.

Before Hank could answer, Alexa walked in. "Morning everyone. Sorry about that, Hank."

"Not a problem," he replied. "Everything okay at home?"

"Yes, thank you. Nothing out of the ordinary. I need this though," Alexa said, taking the last coffee from the carrier which Hank had put on Kim's desk.

"Thanks for this," Kim said to her before taking another sip from her cup.

Hank realised that what to some might have seemed like a simple gesture was a big one from Alexa, who he well knew didn't have much money. He decided that he would discreetly go to her at the reception desk later and offer to give her the money back. Whether she accepted or not, the offer would at least have been made.

Erin had also thanked Alexa, so Hank followed suit. With that, he returned to Kim's question. "So, you asked what I need you to work on. I've secured a good contract for data recovery work. Given your experience, I'm putting you on that. You'll take charge of it for us, doing the work and dealing with the client. Sound good to you?"

He saw her react slightly to the question. Back at Intelligence, he wouldn't have added that to the end of what he had said, he would have simply given her an order. At Voight Detective Services, he wanted to run things slightly differently. He was still the boss, but not with the same air if formality that the police force required.

"Sounds good," Kim confirmed.

"Alright then everyone, let's get on with it," he said, heading for his office.

Later that morning, Hank was at his desk typing up a report for a client, after tracking down a debtor for them. Kim was at her desk in the bullpen, familiarising herself with her new assignment and her new client. Hank had been impressed that she had taken the initiative to call the client and introduce herself. That was something he should have instructed, but she had done it even though it had slipped his mind.

The phone on his desk rang. Inevitably it was an internal call since that was the only way one could reach him. If a client was on the line, they had to go through Alexa and be transferred. Since it was her line that was lit up on the phone's display, he suspected that might be what was happening. He picked up the handset.

"Alexa."

"Hey, Hank. I've got a potential client on the line. Her name is Guilia Matsudo. Says she got your contact information from a Matt Shannon?"

"Ah, Matt. Yes, he's one of my acquaintances who I contacted to try and drum up some business. Said he didn't have anything, but he'd recommend me if asked. I guess he was asked. Put her through."

"Transferring now," Alexa said.

It was immediately clear that Hank was now connected to a cell phone in a car. "This is Hank Voight, good morning," he said.

"Morning, Mr Voight. My name is Giulia Matsudo. I, or rather my dad, was given your number by Matt Shannon."

The name was floated almost as a question, testing it for its credibility.

"I know Matt. He was good enough to offer to pass work my way if the opportunity arose. Can I ask the nature of the service you're enquiring about?" Hank asked, thinking that Kalinda would have liked that wording. Maybe she was rubbing off on him? Or maybe she would have had an even more eloquent way to word the question? Probably, he thought, feeling a strong sense of endearment to her in that moment.

"I'm in Chicago," Guilia said. "Might it be easier if I come to your office, today if possible?"

"Sure," Hank said in a relaxed tone. "When would you like to come in? I'm in the office until around 2pm today."

There was a moment's pause on the other end of the call. Hank imagined a watch being looked at. It was currently a few minutes before 10am.

"Eleven?" Giulia suggested.

"I'll see you then," Hank replied.

"That's great," Giulia said, and the call ended.

Potentially another new client, Hank thought. At this rate, he might be able to offer Jay at least some part time work sooner rather than later.

Hank's phone rang again a couple of minutes before 11am. It was Alexa, and Hank knew what she was going to say before he took the call.

"Alexa," he said after picking up the phone.

"Hank, I've got Giulia Matsudo here to see you."

"I'll be right out."

He got up from his desk and went through the bullpen.

"The prospective client is here?" Kim asked from her desk.

"Yeah."

"I'll fix some coffee," she said, standing up.

"Thank you."

He opened the door to the reception area, which worked with a simple handle on the bullpen side, only requiring a numerical code on the reception side to ensure that only staff had admittance unless visitors were accompanied.

Giulia Matsudo, he discovered, was an attractive woman with long black hair and at least some Japanese heritage, which he had already guessed from her surname. She was likely mixed race, he suspected. She had a pretty face, and was wearing an obviously expensive black business suit.

"Morning. I'm Hank Voight," he said, offering his hand.

"Giulia Matsudo," she said as the shook. It was a weak, delicate shake on her part. "Thanks for seeing me at short notice."

"You're welcome. Come through and we can talk about your requirements."

"Sounds good," Giulia said, walking through to the bullpen as Hank held the door for her.

"Would you like something to drink? Coffee? Water?"

"No, thank you. I just finished a coffee in the car."

"Okay, have a seat," Hank said, motioning her towards the two couches – Erin's brilliant idea for meetings such as this.

They sat down opposite each other, and Kim appeared with a coffee for Hank. Giulia turned down the offer of a drink for a second time, then it was down to business.

"So, what can I do for you?" Hank asked after testing his coffee with a quick sip.

Giulia launched into an explanation about how her father's company, that she worked for, owned multiple businesses in Chicago. The companies ranged from a supermarket, through several restaurants and fast food outlets, to a hotel. It was apparent that the Matsudo family had quite an empire, and therefore presumably a lot of money.

"That's an impressive list of businesses," Hank said, still waiting to find out why Voight Detective Services were needed.

"I've decided to take the lead in improving customer satisfaction across our businesses. To help me start doing that, I'm looking to hire what I guess you call some mystery shoppers to visit as customers and report back to me in great detail about their customer experiences. What was good, and what wasn't. Is that something your team could do for me?"

Yes, Hank thought. Not only could he take the work, he liked the idea of doing it. He and Kalinda could try out a night at their hotel. He could send Erin and Jay to dinner at a restaurant. Kim could go and do a shop at the supermarket. It was easy work.

"We can do that. You'd have to provide me names and addresses of the places you want us to visit for you of course." He went on to give her some pricing, based on hourly rates plus additional expenses."

"I can agree to that," Giulia said, not even bothering to negotiate with him, making Hank immediately wish he had asked for more. Still, a deal was a deal.

"It's a deal," he said, and they shook hands. "Let me start by getting your contact information."

That evening, Hank looked forward to telling Kalinda about the new client he had secured for the agency. She was coming to his place once she was finished with work. They would have it to themselves as Erin was at Jay's place for the night.

It was past 8pm when Kalinda arrived, after a long shift with Intelligence.

"Come in, come in. You look tired," Hank said when he opened the front door to her.

"Tired? I'm practically dead. I'm too old for this police work nonsense."

She entered the house and gave him a kiss, which prevented him laughing at the joke. "Stop with that too old crap," he said after closing the door behind her.

"Well it's how I feel at the moment. You know what would be nice? A long soak in the bath, after dinner."

"That can be arranged. I'd offer to join you, but I don't think my tub is big enough for two. In any case, it's relaxation that you're after."

"It is, but after my bath, once I'm relaxed, it might be a good time for a different kind of stress relief."

To show what she meant, as if he was in any doubt, she made her usual move of putting her hands on his cheeks and kissing him, letting him feel her leather gloves on his skin as well as her lips against his.

"Mmmm," Hank sighed in enjoyment.

Kalinda kissed him once more, then finally started taking her coat off.

"It's a shame that's the only leather stuff you've got here," he said, already looking ahead to the end of the night.

"Says who? You didn't see everything I brought when I unpacked the clothes I came over with the other day."

That was a good point, Hank thought with immediate excitement. But he couldn't get too carried away right now.

"Anyway, how was your day?" she asked.

As they walked through to the kitchen and Hank made a start on a late dinner, he told her about Kim's first day at the agency and the new client that he had made a deal with.

"So we'll have a night in a hotel on expenses at some point," he said tantalisingly.

"That is definitely something to look forward to. Hey, I meant to say when I arrived, I spoke to my landlord today. You know, about me leaving the apartment to move in here and Jay and Erin replacing me?"

Hank nodded to indicate that he remembered what they had talked about. "What did he say?"

"He wasn't thrilled about it, but he agreed to it. Said if they want to go for it, put them in touch with him and we'll work the details out. Only bad thing is he said he wants the full rental amount from them, not the reduced rate I got. Can't say I'm that surprised he said that considering the way I'm fannying him around."

Hank laughed, enjoying the English turn of phrase. "Overall, that's good news though. When would you want to move in here though?"

Kalinda looked at him for a moment. "When do you want me to move in?"

"Now," he said honestly. "But I need to be more realistic than that."

"Well, I'm ready when you are, so I guess it depends on Erin and Jay."

Hank felt delighted. Kalinda moving in with him was imminent, suddenly. Or potentially imminent at least. The whole deal relied on Erin and Jay now. An important conversation needed to be had.

A/N: Business continues to thrive at Voight Detective Services, to the point where Hank may be able to put some work in Jay's direction.

And there is a solution to both couples' accommodation issues, assuming Erin and Jay are ready to move in together. Do you think they will go for it?
