It was a nice crisp morning. The sun was rising and the air cold. It was a busy morning in the Durin household. Dis had woken up extra early today. Her hands were busy making breakfast for four hungry individuals who would soon awaken.
"Good morning brother." Dis hummed as she saw her brother walk into the kitchen. Thorin replied with a grunt and took a seat at the dining table. Walking up to him, Dis placed a plate right in front of him, his breakfast consisting of a loaf of bread, hearty links, and some eggs to which Thorin thanked. Dis had taken a seat right across from him.
Dis looked at the stern dwarf right across from her. "You do know what day it is, don't you Thorin?" Dis asked.
Looking up from his breakfast, Thorin stated between bites "Of course I know"
"Well?" Dis said eager to know
"Well what sister?" Thorin said not understanding
"What did you get her?" Dis questioned. Thorin shifted in his chair and took a deep breath. He opened his mouth and mumbled something quickly under his breath.
"What Thorin? You know you need to be louder if you want me to hear you." Dis said.
"A bow and Arrow" Thorin mumbled. Dis eyes widened in both amusement and disbelief.
"A bow and arrow hmm? I had always assumed that you wouldn't want her to wield one. It took ages for Kili to even convince you to even practice with one" Dis stated
"Vinya wanted one and she will get one. Besides, she is already skilled with a sword, there is no harm with her expanding her skill. When have I ever said no to her?" Thorin said. Dis gave Thorin a warm smile
"Never , I suppose.."
After finishing his breakfast and grabbing his coat, Thorin walked to the front door.
"I'm going over Dwalin's to talk over the plans, Il'' be back shortly. " he nodded to Dis.
Vinya fluttered her eyes open as she felt beams of sunlight landing on her face through the windows. The first things she noticed were a pair of hands around her waist. She smiled. 'Fili' she thought. Vinya had shared a bed ever since she could remember. Every morning Vinya woke up to see the same scene play before her; Fili's hand wrapped around her waists, his head buried in the back of her hair, her back to his front. While Kili on the other hand had his head buried in the crook her neck and her arms around his neck.
Vinya slowly got up trying not to wake either one of the sleeping boys and made her way to freshen up for the day. She grabbed a new pair of her leggings and tunic and entered the bathroom. She looked at herself in the mirror. Her dark blue eyes looked back at her and she noticed her white hair had come loose from her bun that she had the night before. Letting her hair down, she ran her hands through her hair brushing any tangles out. Vinya decided that a loose braid will do for today. She tucked any strands of hair that had escaped her braid behind her pointed out to join Dis,she now wore an olive green tunic that hung loosely from her as well as dark leggings underneath.
"G'morning Dis!" Vinya said giving her a peck on the cheek.
"Morning Vinya and happy birthday my child!" Dis said giving Vinya a hug which she gladly accepted.
"Thank you Dis" Vinya said. She looked around the kitchen hoping to spot a familiar face. Looking back at Dis, she said "Where is father? He should be awake should he not?"
"Thorin went to go see Dwalin; they had some business that needed to be taken care of right away." Dis said. Opening her mouth to ask another question, Dis interrupted her
"Now don't worry about Thorin, come and eat your breakfast" Dis ushered Vinya down to sit.
After thanking Dis for her breakfast, Vinya had made her way back to her room. Her plan was to wake up Kili and Fil from their slumber. Letting out a small giggle, Vinya knew just how to just wake them. She carefully stood up on top of the bed and grabbed a handful of pillows.
1..2…3..Now
"WAKE UP!" Vinya shouted while throwing the pillows at them as hard as she could. Kili and Fili shot up straight up falling to the ground. Vinya fell onto the bed clutching her stomach while she was laughing her head off.
"OH MAHAL! That's was hilarious!" Vinya laughed. Kili who was now rubbing his head "That wasn't funny Z"
"Yes that was Kili!" Vinya said, giggling some more.
"You know what else is funny V" Fili said still looking half asleep. Azalika narrowed her eyes at the blond dwarf.
"Oh no no" Vinya said trying to make her way out of the room as quickly as she could.
Too late. She was trapped.
"Kili let me go!" Vinya said to Kili who somehow had gotten a hold her arms. She started to panic as Fili walked towards her with a smirk on his face.
"Kili let me go! Fili don't you dare! I'm warning you!" Vinya said. She tried to call for Dis, but ended up laughing. "FILI-LAUGH-STOP-TICKLING-LAUGH-ME!"
"Say it V Kili said
"I-laugh-rather-laugh-die" Vinya managed to say. Fili tickled her some more
"Fine-laugh-Kili and Fili-laugh- are the-laugh-most-laugh-handsome-laugh dwarves ever!" Vinya said. Kili and Fili both smirked.
Vinya was breathing hard when they stopped. "I hate you" she breathed out
Kili smiled widely "Come on , you know you don't hate us you-"
"Never can" finished Fili.
"Yea, yea" Vinya mumbled trying to get back her composure. "Let's go, Irak'amad has made breakfast" she said and all of a sudden she felts two pecks on her cheeks
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY V!" Kili and Fili both said in unison. Vinya smiled and gave Fili a kiss on the cheek. "Thank you Fili and thank you Kili" she said while giving Kili a kiss on the cheek also. As they walked out the door to the living room, Vinya jumped on Kili's back. Kili who was taken by surprise stumbled forward, but quickly managed to grab her thighs.
"Couldn't give me a warning eh?" He said. Vinya giggled.
"Nope" She smiled.
Thorin had come back a few hours later. After wishing his charge a wonderful birthday and getting a tight hug from Vinya, it was decided a little fresh air was due. But what was outside time without some snacks. Vinya helped Dis pack some cheese, bread, and some dried meats for later on. The sun was up high as the dwarves walked through town. Thorin and Dis were walking side by side talking between themselves, while Kili, Fili and Vinya were much further ahead. They were close to the edge of town making their way to a forest opening.
"Come on Fili!" Vinya yelled back to Fili as she ran. Kili had announced a race and right now Kili and Vinya who were hand in hand were ahead. When they did stop, they were left panting waiting for Fili to catch up. Breathing heavily, Vinya tried to catch using a tree to support herself.
"Hey V " Kili said to Vinya. Vinya looked up and her dark blue eyes met brown ones.
"What?" she said. Kili just smiled and took a step towards her. Kili's hand reached out to her and tucked a strand of a loose piece of hair behind her pointed ears. Vinya felt a slight shiver go through her.
"Kili…?"
"Just…let me look at you." Kili whispered. His rough hands cupped her face. Vinya rolled her eyes at him.
"My my, what is this, the amazing Kili flirting with me?" Vinya said in a teasing voice.
With one hand still cupping her pale face, his other hand snaked its way around Vinya's waist bringing them chest to chest. Inching his face close to Vinya, their noses almost touching., "I wasn't flirting, I was being serious." the dark hair dwarf said.
"Kili…" Vinya whispered. She felt her mind freeze. She wasn't sure if she was the one who brought her face closer or if it was him, but she felt their foreheads touch. She swallowed and her brain couldn't find the courage to speak or move away. Vinya felt her eyes close and felt the hot air from Kili's mouth. But before either they could do anything a voice interrupted them.
"Hey!" Fili said while glaring at his brother. "What do you think you're doing?!" Vinya pushed Kili away and tried to make some more space between them. She felt her heart beating fast and the tips of her ears getting warm. Looking over to the dark hair dwarf, she expected him to be flustered- just like she was, but instead Kili just grinned and laughed it off.
"Just messing around with V over here" Kili chuckled. "Which by the way brother, it seems like ages have flown by since your arrival."
Vinya forced out a giggle, happy to welcome the change of topic. "We were worried that an orc may have gotten you!"
Vinya could still see the suspicion of Fili's face before he opened his mouth. "No orc would have bested me"
"Or any dwarf in the blue mountains!" Kili added. Nodding in agreement, Vinya looked behind Fili and spotted her father and her aunt. Finding a small patch of clear land, it was agreed that they would make there stop. Kili and Fili help lay out some food. They ate lunch and the delicious sweet cake that Dis had secretly packed. Next to Vinya's surprise, she was presented with some presents. Dis had given her a new dress, Kili and Fili had given Vinya new daggers, and Thorin gave her a bow and arrow which Vinya loved.
After two hours of practicing her new bow and arrow, Vinya spoke to Kili and Fili
"You two spar each other and I'll watch to see if you got any improvement to do." Vinya said. She could do for a little break.
"V, you know we don't need improvement. We're the best" Fili said with a wide smile on his face. Vinya smirked.
"Is that why I beat you guys whenever we spar? Or every time I have the better shot with a bow and arrow?" Vinya said. The line of Durin frowned
"That's not fair, you're half elf so you got better aim and stamina" Kili said. Vinya just rolled her eyes at them.
Sitting down close to Thorin and Dis, Vinya paid no mind to their conversation. Instead she watched closely as Fili and Kili sparred. Until now she never noticed how attractive they have looked. Thinking back, Vinya doesn't even think that she had ever truly looked at them. Even though they had grown alongside each other and yes they were her only family she had grown to fiercely love; she had never looked at Fili and Kili as her brothers. Best friends yes, but brothers? Never. So when Vinya looked at the two dwarves sparring each other, she noticed a few things. She noticed how handsome they were. Fili had grown to be a 'true' dwarf, his beard growing out. Kili was still maturing, but even with the lack of beard, he was still attractive. She watched them every day trying to flirt with random waitresses and or any random dwarrowdam that could occupy there time and she never cared, but now she did think of it, Vinya felt a small pang of jealousy creep up on her just thinking about it. She noticed how well toned they were. Every single piece of them seemed to be about pure eyes traveled from their muscled arms to their toned stomachs and then finally landed down to one thing. She felt heat rush to her face when she landed on the bulges in their pants.
She jumped out of her thoughts when someone shouted her name. She saw that Kili and Fili were looking at her.
"Er...Um... Hi" Vinya sad. Fili rolled his eyes.
"So how do you think we did?" He asked.
"Oh, umm good?" Vinya said who couldn't think of what to say.
"You weren't even paying attention," Kili complained.
"Yes I was. Now to think of it there were some things you messed up on." Vinya said trying to sound convincing.
"Really what is it then?" Fili said.
"Well Fili you need to fix your stance and Kili you need to relax your grip on your sword." Vinya said hoping they would buy it.
"Hmm really?" Kili said.
"Yes, it's weird how I didn't see it until now." Vinya said.
"Reasonable enough," Fili said.
"Come you three. We should be headed back shortly." Thorin said. Vinya smiled and nodded and grabbed her belongings.
When they reached home, Vinya turned to her family.
"I want to thank you all for such an amazing birthday I had ever had. Especially you father. Thank you for the bow and arrow. Vinya said.
"Vinya I would never say no to you." Thorin said.
"I think I never seen Uncle this nice to anyone" Kili whispered to Fili who snickered. Thorin gave each one of them a glare which shut them up.
"But V, your birthday isn't over yet." Kili said who was smiling like an idiot.
"What?" Vinya said who was now confused.
"Come on V, you'll find out soon! Just go get ready!" If Fili said.
"Come on Vinya; let's get you in the dress I gave you." Dis said leading her into a room.
Vinya sat in front of a mirror while Dis fussed about her hair. While Dis was busy braiding Vinya's hair into tiny little sections, Vinya took the time to observe her dress.
The dress was a midnight blue which matched her eyes. The neck line was a 'V' shaped and embroidered with golden threads. The dress clung onto her, bringing out the curves of her breasts. The dress stopped at her ankles so she wouldn't trip.
"All done, you truly look beautiful tonight." Dis said praising Vinya.
"All due to you Dis." Vinya said while giving Dis a kiss on each one of her cheeks.
"Your father and the boys must be waiting, come on" Dis said leading them out the door.
The minute Vinya entered the living room; she felt 3 pairs of eyes land on her. Kili was the first one to say something
"Mahal" Kili whispered as he saw her "You look …. Stunning."
Vinya blushed and looked down.
"Yes, truly majestic." Fili said
"Thank you, both of you." Vinya said.
"Come on, we don't want to be late" said Thorin, showing a rare smile to Vinya.
As soon as the party entered the tavern, Vinya was bombarded with happy birthdays, congrats, hugs, and all the merriments from her fellow dwarves. She saw all familiar faces; making sure she jested with Bofur or catching up with Ori, making sure she had said her formal greetings to Balin and Dwalin.
There were two hours in the party and Vinya was dancing with Bombur. After the song ended Vinya thanked Bombur and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Vinya looked around for her two favorite dwarves. When Vinya spotted Kili and Fili, she made her way to them. On her way Vinya bumped into someone.
"Oh sorry!" she said.
"No harm dear" she heard someone say. She looked up and saw an old man with a long greyish beard. He gave her a warm smile
"You must be the birthday girl and the daughter of Thorin Oakinsheild." He said.
"Yes I am sir." Vinya said back. She wanted to ask him who he was and how did he know about her father. As if he knew what she was thinking, he spoke up to her
"Forgive me, but I am Gandalf the Grey an acquaintance of Thorin." He said. Vinya smiled.
"Well any friend of my father is a friend of mine, it is nice to meet you Gandalf, Vinya at your service." Vinya bowed to the wizard. Gandalf let out a chuckle.
"Now if you excuse me, I have to have a little talk with your father." Gandalf said. Vinya nodded and went off to Fili and Kili.
"Happy birthday lad."Bofur said raising a mug of ale towards her.
"Thank you Bofur" Vinya said taking seat between Kili and Fili. An arm wrapped around her and a husky voice spoke into her ear.
"I still haven't had my dance my lady" Fili said. Vinya chuckled. Obviously the boys had been drinking.
"Well my lord, it would be an honor to have this dance with you." Vinya said back. Fili led Vinya to the dance floor. Vinya grabbed a hold of Fili's shoulders, while Fili took a hold of her waist. They moved with the beat of the music; turning and dancing as the song went on. All Vinya saw were her fellow friends moving alongside her and a handsome blond dwarf in front of her. But just as the song ended, another one quickly replaced it. Vinya laughed "Not another Fili! Lets give our feet a rest!"
They both walked to the side watching as the band of drunken dwarves danced, laughed, and ate. Standing side by side, rough dwarf fingers met pale delicate ones. While not intertwined, the fingers seemed to repeatedly graze each other and hook around each others fingers.
Vinya looked up to Fili and smiled. Their eyes locked.
"Vinya I-" Fili started, but was only interrupted by a loud ruckus. Vinya sighed, already sensing on who it could be.
"Kili's drunk." Fili said.
"Come on lets go get him." Vinya said
When they did reach him, they saw Kili trying to flirt with some bar waitress. Vinya rolled her eyes at that.
"Come on brother let's get you home." Fili said taking Kili by the arm. Vinya took the other.
"Let us lad, you stay here, this party is for you." Bofur said.
"Thank you Bofur, but its alright. It is Kili" Vinya said.
"Are you sure?" Nori said
"Positive" Vinya nodded.
When they got Kili home, they set him on his bed. The room was dark, only lit by the dim moonlight. Vinya sat on the edge of their bed. She sighed.
"You okay?" Fili said sitting next to Vinya.
"Why wouldn't I be? I just spent my birthday surrounded by those whom I love" Vinya said. Fili smiled at her. There was a pause between them. Vinya didn't mind the silence. She leaned into Fili, resting her shoulder on him. Fili buried his face into her braided hair.
"You know Kili wasn't lying." Fili whispered to her
"About what?" Vinya whispered back. Fili sat back a little making sure they were face to face.
"What he said before. You do look stunning." Fili said as he leaned close to her face. Vinya felt her heart beat a little faster knowing what was about to happen, but not once did she inch away. Instead she moved closer and closer until there their lips met.
