Kensi propped herself up on an elbow and watched her partner, both amused and exasperated. He was trying to share the existing duvet and numerous smaller blankets that were provided in the hotel room between them.
They were bedding down in San Diego tonight, had to meet with a Intelligence Analysis from the NSA first thing in the morning that had to be done in their office. Sam and Callen were in the room across the hall.
"I wonder if Sam and Callen got two beds," Kensi mused out loud, her and Deeks had got there after their teammates so they didn't hear what room the others got.
Deeks looked up from his blanket sorting with a glint in his eye. Oh, she knew what that meant.
"It's your grave," Kensi warned him.
His face fell.
"But-" he whined.
"No."
"You're no fun," he said, sulking as he returned to his blanket conundrum.
"Here, let's share the blanket," Kensi suggested sensibly as he tried to weigh up how many little blankets the big one was worth.
He gave her a suspicious look.
"It will cover us both," she added.
It really would, when spread over the double bed it almost touched the floor on either side. Plenty of blanket for them both to huddle under. Or, more exactly, snuggle under. Her partner was clingy.
"Am I actually going to get some blanket?" Deeks asked, pausing in his sorting.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Kensi asked defensively.
Deeks shot his partner a look and replied, "You're not just going to steal all the blankets, are you?"
"What? Of course not!" Kensi spluttered at him.
That's what he was worried about? Blanket theft, really? She wasn't that mean.
"If you steal the blankets, I'm going to put my cold feet on you," Deeks threatened his partner, pointedly throwing half of the blanket over him and divvying up the others.
Kensi pulled a face at him but allowed Deeks to sort out the blankets.
He was being ridiculous and told him so. Deeks just scoffed at her.
" You've never woken up absolutely freezing because a certain somebody has stolen all the blankets."
"It was one time!" she protested weakly with a pout.
It wasn't her fault that time, it had been freezing and her body had just automatically reacted. It wasn't like she had yanked the duvet off him out of spite.
"It only takes one time to freeze," Deeks said adamantly.
"You're not going to freeze, it's the middle of October. Hardly winter," Kensi pointed out with an eye roll.
"One, October isn't winter at all, its autumn and I like to be comfortably warm in bed and two, ha! So you are planning on stealing the blankets," Deeks said triumphantly. " I should just put my cold feet on you now."
"I am not and what sort of threat is that?" Kensi demanded.
"The feel of someone else's cold feet is horrible," Deeks claimed.
"Yeah, I know that but you don't have cold feet," said Kensi exasperatedly. "It's not exactly a good threat if you can't make good on it."
Deeks frowned at her and stubbornly said, "If it was winter I would have cold feet and then I'd put them on you."
"You wouldn't dare," Kensi responded automatically in a dangerous tone, narrowing her eyes at her partner who shrank away slightly.
"It's not winter so it's a moot point," Deeks added hurriedly.
"Exactly," said Kensi satisfyingly and burrowed under the covers Deeks had given her.
"See, this is how you steal the blankets," Deeks said, not knowing when to quit and poking the Kensi sized lump.
She decided not to react, that's what he wanted. Too bad Deeks didn't get the message.
"You cover yourself in the blankets and then do your weird twisty thing in your sleep and suddenly I have no blankets and you're a Kensi burrito," he continued.
"I don't do a weird twisty thing in my sleep," Kensi retorted in a muffled tone, not bothering to get up.
"Do too," Deeks maintained, poking her again.
Kensi decided that she would retaliate by moving her foot towards her shin. Quickly. Unfortunately, she forgot about the numerous blankets covering them.
"Didn't hurt," he taunted, wiggling his leg at her.
She muttered something inappropriate and probably threatening under her breath. Deeks just chuckled softly at her.
Deciding that it was better to just ignore him, Kensi got herself comfy and childishly turned herself away from him. Good thing too or he'd get in trouble for his grin. He got himself comfy too and just waited as she shuffled about.
She popped her head back out, glaring and hair toussled.
"I'm not even tired," Kensi admitted, sitting upright.
"Me neither," Deeks replied sheepishly.
They couldn't really do anything with their evening, they really did need an early night. The meeting was at seven tomorrow morning so they didn't run into the guy's boss.
"YouTube videos?" they suggested at the same time.
"My phone has more charge," claimed Kensi, reaching over to the bedside table for her phone.
"Brilliant, we can -" began Deeks.
"We are not watching videos of dogs opening doors," Kensi interrupted him firmly.
"Aw, but it's cool," he complained, trying to grab her phone. "And super adorable. Don't deny it."
She held it out of reach and replied, "Yes, the first time."
"Then we're not watching 'Funny Moments of America's Next Top Model," he told her adamantly, folding his arms. "They're not even funny."
"They are and it's my phone," she taunted, waving it at him.
He lunged at it with grabby hands but she was too quick and moved it away. Not quick enough as he managed to knock it out of her hands and onto the bed. They have each other challenging looks before scrabbling for it, swatting at each other's hands.
"Ow!" yelped Deeks, withdrawing his hand and cradling it close to him while shooting his partner an injured look. "Hey, no nails! That's cheating!"
"All's fair in love and war."
"Not feeling much of the love," Deeks sulked, rubbing his injured hand.
Ignoring him, Kensi held her phone aloft triumphantly. Deeks just groaned.
