"We have arrived in Honshu. We're arriving in Honshu. Welcome to the city of Nagoya."
The words were announced as a plane just landed, multiple people disembarking it as the flight attendants led them to get their luggage and go to the receptionist center. One of the people within the crowd was a messy, green-haired young adult who had a lean muscular physique and slightly above average height. He was dressed in a blue and black All Might hoodie with a red undershirt, black jeans and red high-tops. As he thanked the receptionist, the freckles adorning his face showed in the sunlight along with a huge scar on his left arm as he went towards the exit.
Walking out of the airport, his eyes gazed around the bustling city with a huge smile on his face, his face gleaming in wonder and awe as he took his first steps out of the building.
"Woah...so this is Honshu, huh?" Izuku Midoriya said as he went by the sidewalk with his suitcase, watching the lively streets and huge skyscrapers around him and having to avoid the busy people that were briskly walking to their destination until he decided to move to a place that he does not have to bump into anyone.
"This definitely isn't Musutafu or Kyushu. I can guarantee that. This city is crowded..." Izuku was taken aback by the huge population in the city before he took out a piece of paper and checked the map on his phone. "Now where is the train station to Kawasaki?"
Walking around the place, the teenager asked for directions until he heard his phone ringing which he answered. "Hey, Mom."
"Izuku!" His mother's voice caught him off guard. "Are you ok? Did you get there safely? Did you brush your teeth? I hope that you don't have stomach pa-"
"I'm fine, Mom. I just arrived in Nagoya. Trying to find a train station or a cab to Kawasaki." Izuku said, letting out a small chuckle when he heard his mother letting out a sigh of relief on the other end. "Thank goodness. It's too bad Nao is unable to meet you because she's busy."
"It's no problem, Mom. I can find it. Just focus on Yu right now." Izuku said as he made his way to the Nagoya train station, hearing something in the background before his mother spoke. "Yu, stop that! It's time to go to class. I have to go to work. Alright, Izuku. Be safe and take care. Also, be safe, sweetie."
'You said that twice.' Izuku smiled before he opened his mouth. "You too, Mom. Say hi to Dad for me."
"I will." The call then ended, Izuku lifting his gaze to see that he is in front of the train station. "Neat."
Izuku wasted no time as he went to pay for his ticket and hopped on a train, taking a seat and leaning back before he looked outside the window and took in the scenery of the city. As he travelled, he saw huge buildings around the place, some of them based off famous heroes and influential figures.
"Woah! They even have a playground based on Endeavor. That's surprising." Izuku said, taking pictures with a smile on his face. He was entranced by the sights around him, the teen could not hold back the excitement. 'Nice. I can go sightseeing sometime.'
After a few hours of the train ride, Izuku heard the train station announced that they have reached Kawasaki, much to his elation. After he got off the train and left the train station, he looked around the city, a somber expression on his face as he noticed the difference between it and Nagoya. The city of Kawasaki was very quiet, the buildings smaller and the atmosphere much smoother compared to the tall buildings and loud noises of Nagoya.
"Woah. This is so cool. This place changed so much." Izuku wandered around the city, memories of the place flooded through his mind as he rubbed his black wristbands. 'This place felt more...gray the last time I was here.'
After a few minutes of walking around, the verdette found himself in front of a huge, brown building with a crescent moon on the top of the doors. "Tsuki...Café...yep, this is it."
The bells of the door chimed melodiously as he stepped foot into the place, a feeling of familiarity and comfort resonated through his body as he observed the place. A delicious scent wafted the area, the teen following the aroma which unconsciously led him to the counter where a tall woman with long, blue hair that covered one of her eyes and wearing a blue apron with the cafe logo on it. He then noticed that the girl was reading a comic book with the picture of a person dressed in a blue and red suit with a spider on the chest.
"U-ummm..." Clearing his throat, he got her attention when she looked up from her book with a bored expression on her face. "What do you want?"
Izuku scratched his cheek nervously as he started speaking. "I-I'm looking for a N-Naomi Netsu. D-do you know of anyone of t-that name?"
"The boss lady? Yeah, let me get her." The woman got up and dragged her feet to the backroom. After a few minutes of waiting, she came back with another older woman who had brown hair tied into a bun and wore a white button-up shirt and a brown skirt along with the apron over it. "Someone called for me, Aoi?"
Noticing Izuku, the woman ran to him before she inspected the teen who made him felt a bit nervous. "Izuku, is that you?! What happened to your hair?! Are you dyeing your hair?! It's looks so cool. But if you're being a delinquent, I do not condone that. We don't need another one of those."
"O-oh, hi! It's nice to see you...uh, Miss Netsu." Izuku said shyly, the woman shuffled his hair with a huge smile.
"Oh please. Call me Aunt Nao, Izuku. Look at you, you're so much taller now and someone's been bulking up. You look like Hisashi now but you definitely took Inko's face." Naomi said as she squeezed and puffed Izuku's cheeks for a while before she clapped her hands. "Oh, my bad manners. I need to get you to your room. Let's go."
Naomi escorted him to the back, the blue-haired woman following them as they arrived by the stairs. The moment she went in front of the staircase, Aoi, the blue-haired receptionist, wore headphones before she put her hands on Izuku's ears, much to his confusion.
"KOKOA! GET YOUR LAZY ASS DOWN HERE AND HELP OUR GUEST!" Naomi yelled to the top of her lungs, Izuku was surprised while the customers in the cafe simply laughed and snickered. "It's the good old shouting session again!"
"HELL NO! I'M BUSY RIGHT NOW!" A voice shouted from the top of the stairs, causing some of the customers to let out full blown laughter while others continued with their activities like it's a normal occurrence.
"YOU'RE JUST GONNA IGNORE IZUKU! HE NEEDS TO GO TO HIS ROOM AND I'M BUSY!"
After Naomi stated that, Aoi let go of Izuku's ears when they heard shuffling and banging upstairs until he saw a woman who looks like the splitting image of Naomi. The girl, known as Kokoa, had a mole under her mouth with her hair tied in a ponytail which Izuku recognized. 'Is that Koko?'
She let out an exhausted sigh before she glared at her mother. "Seriously, Mom! You are by the stairs!"
"Yes! And I'm leaving! Get Izuku acquainted!" The older woman said as she left to the kitchen, leaving a confused Izuku, a bored Aoi and an aggravated Kokoa.
"Uhh…thank you. Uhh?" Izuku turned to the blue-haired receptionist with a smile on his face.
"Aoi. Aoi Akatsuki. See you later." The girl waved and left which made him smile. "T-thank you again."
"Hey!" Izuku's shook uncontrollably at the voice before he turned to Kokoa who gave him a glare before she picked up some of his luggage. "Let's go, Izmi."
"Izmi?" Izuku raised a brow which made the woman smile. "It's a combination of your two names: Izuku and Midoriya. I called your mother Aunt Inmi so you shall bear the name of Izmi. Did you forget I always call you that?"
"I-I think." Izuku looked down nervously before Kokoa grabbed his suitcase and gestured him to follow her which he did. "C'mon. Your room awaits."
She then gave him a tour of the rooms, showing him her and her mother's rooms before she took him to his room, putting down his stuff as she made a mocking bow. "This is your room, Izmi. Perfectly distributed with a great view of the street. Well, a better view now since you're taller."
"Oh, t-thank you." He said, walking around the room before he looked out the window to see an amazing view of the city of Kawasaki. "You're right. It is a great view."
"Hell yeah! Well, I did my job and I gotta go now! Just let Mom know when you're finished with your luggage. Duty awaits!" Kokoa shouted before she went out of the room, leaving Izuku to his lonesome.
"Well, this is new..." Izuku mumbled before he sat down on the ground and sorted out his luggage. After he had finished unpacking, Izuku changed out of his clothes into a white tee with the word 'Rest' on it and a pair of black jeans. As he went downstairs, he went to Aoi to ask for where Naomi is, the girl tiredly pointing to the kitchen. "Just talk and your presence will be known."
"Got it." He said before he went to the kitchen to see Kokoa and Naomi arguing. "What the hell is your problem? I'm working as you wanted!"
"You should have gotten off your damn game sooner and helped!"
"Uhhh..." Izuku spoke, the two women turning to him with smiles before they saw his shirt which made their smiles fell. Naomi and Kokoa gave him a deadpanned glance which made him nervous before the mother sighed. "You're Hisashi's kid, alright."
"I'm getting him new clothes. For now, change that." Kokoa chimed in, a look of pure disgust before she went to serve the customers. "We're going shopping tomorrow, Izmi!"
"W-wait, what?" Izuku said before an apron fell into his hands. "Take it easy today. For now, I'm going to give you a tour of the place. You're gonna start work on Monday, ok?"
"Yes, ma'am!" Izuku nodded and stood at attention, getting a laugh from the woman before she decided to show him around the café which consists of a huge kitchen, break room and two bathrooms at the other side of the place.
"This place changed a lot since last time." Izuku mumbled as he was escorted to the dining hall, seeing the customers seated and enjoying themselves, some speaking with their friends. "Then again, I don't exactly remember much from last time."
Reaching the jukebox by the entrance, the woman put her hands on her hips with a proud smile. "Well, that ends the tour. Short, right? If you have any more questions, ask Aoi or Sora."
She pointed to the two, Aoi raised her hand absentmindedly while a head of a blue-haired man popped out of the kitchen with a smile as he waved at Izuku. 'I'm guessing that's Sora.'
"A-am I able t-to start working t-today?" He stuttered despite the confident look on his face.
"Well, someone's eager but nah. Take a break." Naomi then patted him on his head before she realized that she had to go on her tip toes in order to put her hand on his head. "Man, kid. You are like a tree now. How old are you?"
"I-I'm...18 years old." Izuku said with a blush which got a gasp from the woman. "You're 18 now? You've really, really grown up. Well, just make yourself at home for today, Izuku. If you want, you can watch Aoi work the register for the rest of the week. I'm not going to work you too hard since you have exams in a week."
"Yes, ma'am." Izuku nodded before the woman sighed and pouted. "Don't be so serious. Call me Aunt Nao. Now get outta and go take a breather."
"Got it, Ma-uhh...Aunt Nao." He said, the woman patting him on his head before she went back to work. "Good boy."
Getting out of the kitchen, he spent the rest of the day watching Aoi working with the register and taking orders, his intense stare, mumbling and taking of notes on his notebook got a few laughs from the customers. It was evening when he got back to his room, picking up a few dumbbells from his suitcase before he started exercising.
"A new island and a new city." Izuku said while he lifted his dumbbells, taking his time as he watched the sun going down which plastered the horizon in an orange hue. After he finished exercising and took a bath, he smiled as he went to his bed, his arms behind his head as he looked at the ceiling with a pensive expression.
"Now I have the exams from here." Izuku mumbled as his expression changed to a serious one before turning to his metal bat that was resting in the corner of his room. He went to it, tracing his fingers over the dents and scratches on the bat before he lifted it into the air. "There's no going back from here."
"Today's the day." Izuku chanted to himself. It has been a week since he has been in Honshu. He has been fairly good at work, much to Naomi and Aoi's joy as the woman does not have to depend on Kokoa as much. Despite this, Izuku does have problems with speaking with customers, the teen often stuttering breaking into a sweat. As the sun rose over the horizon, Izuku was out of bed, doing his round of pushups and sit-ups until he heard the alarm went off on his phone. "Well, that ends the warmup. Time for a bath."
He then took a shower, looking into his mirror to see a nervous and crooked smile on his face before he put a hand on his chest which was beating quickly. "Not even a cold bath could cure this."
Izuku checked his bag, doing a confident nod as he smiled until he heard his phone vibrating, seeing a text from his mother that said 'Do your best, Izuku!' which relieved Izuku of some of his nervousness before he decided to reply with 'Thanks'.
"Alright! Items, check. All Might smile?" He turned to a mirror and made his signature All Might smile. "I-I'm here."
Izuku dressed himself in a black and green hoodie with a rabbit logo on the chest along with black jeans and a pair of red high tops sneakers. He then put on a huge yellow bag on his back as he decided to put on his wristbands. 'Can't forget my lucky wristbands.'
After he finished preparing, he went downstairs to see Naomi preparing for the store to be open. "Oh, hello, Izuku! That rabbit hoodie looks so good on you. At least that brat of mine has good taste in clothes."
"T-thank you, A-Aunt Nao!" Izuku blushed shyly before the woman gave him a bento lunch box and patted him on the shoulder. "Do your best, ok?"
"Yes, ma'am!" Izuku stood at attention which made the woman laugh before she patted his back. "Got it. Now outta here and beat them up."
The verdette nodded before he waved bye to the woman, seeing a text on his phone from Kokoa that wished him good luck which he replied with a thanks as he rushed towards the train station. As he took a train to Tokyo, his heart was pumping with excitement as he anxiously waited to get to college, checking the map on his phone as he looked around the city of Tokyo. 'So the college should be in the heart of Tokyo. So the next stop should be it.'
As he reached his stop, he got off, making his first step in Tokyo, the teen almost bumping into someone. He stepped back towards an alleyway, a bit taken aback by how crowded the place is as he looked for the directions to the school before he made his way there, finding the place after wandering for a while.
"So this is UA college?" Izuku thought aloud while looking at the huge blue building in front of him, the letters 'UA' showing in gold at the entrance gate before he noticed many students entering the place, some of them coming through cars. Izuku's interest was piqued when he saw their display of different quirks, the teen observing their powers as he excitedly took out his notebook from his bag.
'Woah! That's so cool. Is that a tail? I wonder if it is regenerative. I'm guessing that girl with the long hair has the abilities of a frog due to how she looks. There's a lot of mutant quirk users taking this test. Woah! Did that just grow blades out of his arm and that other guy seems to have metal abilities. Wait, I need to go.'
Making his way into the building while taking notes, the teen then stopped walking as he looked around him, scratching his head in confusion before he went inside. 'Why did I have the feeling I was going to fall in a spectacular, slow-motion style? Is my shoes untied? Probably just my imagination. Or my worrying.'
Going through the entrance, he saw the huge spacious campus of UA, seeing only a few students coming to their courses until he went to a huge classroom with a card. "Alright, my seat number should be..."
Going to the seat number that he was given, Izuku looked at the exam paper in front of him, his heart beating fast while he waited for the exam to begin. Feeling the tense atmosphere around him from the other candidates, the green-haired teenager took several deep breaths in order to calm himself and felt his body to make sure that he is not sweating too much. 'Just calm down, Izuku. It's just a written exam. Those are fun. Plus, I studied my butt off for this.'
Hearing the announcement that the test has commenced, Izuku took a deep breath as he started his exam, a smile on his face as he went through the questions. Finishing the test much quicker than he is supposed to and with nerves still on high in his body, the teen took the rest of the time to review and revise his answers until the bell started ringing to signal the end of the exam.
'Alright, perfect. Well, onto the hard part.' Izuku thought as he was escorted by the proctors to a huge room that looks like the inside of a theater. 'UA...grandiose in almost everything they represent...I can see where the budget went...'
Waiting in silence and deciding to play games on his phone for a while, the teen saw that the place was getting filled up before he saw the announcer hopping onto the stage. As the spotlight hit the stage, Izuku saw a man with blonde hair that is combed back to a high arch as he rubbed his moustache. The man was wearing a black jacket, pants and knee-high boots along with fingerless gloves and a speaker wrapped around his neck.
"Oh my gosh! That's Present Mic!" Izuku gasped excitedly as he took a picture of the blonde hero. As the hero went to the middle of the stage, Present Mic took in a deep breath before he let out a scream as his voice echoed through the room, causing some of the students to hold their ears.
"Welcome to UA, little listeners! Hope you guys weren't too bored by the written exam because now it's time to sweat! So, show me your spirit! Everybody say yeah!"
Everything was quiet, the awkward silence getting to Izuku before he stood up and yelled to the top of his lungs which surprised everyone. The green-haired teen fell to his seat with a sigh, happy to feel some of his anxiousness going away. Present Mic looked around before he put a hand on his head. "Tough crowd. At least one of you has spirit!"
'No, I don't. I'm trying to yell out my nervousness.' Izuku thought as he decided to smile at the compliment while ignoring the judgmental and confused stares everyone was giving him.
"Alright then, let's get started! I'm going to explain the rules out to ya so get out your pamphlets." The Voice Hero said, everyone taking out a blue pamphlet as he began to explain. "Well, we have various villain robots scattered around the place! Each villain-bot represents a point!"
The monitor turned on as it showed four robots before Present Mic pressed on a remote which showed one of the villain-bot which resembled a spider that has a number 1 on its head as he made his explanation. "We have our one-pointer, these spider looking guys are not that threatening but they can pack a punch if you're not careful!"
He then changed the screen which showed another villain-bot that looks like a scorpion which made Izuku curious. "Then we have our two-pointers! Any Scorpios will be happy to see this robot but yeah, these guys have weapons and they're not afraid to use it!"
"Then we got our three pointers here! Dangerous be these guys so be careful with them and that's pretty much it! The goal is to get as many points as you can!" Present Mic said while changing the screen to another robot that were armed to the teeth with weapons, the robot looking like a tractor, Izuku speaking quietly under his breath as he made notes on the robots. 'Alright, good. I need to aim for the one and two pointers. I probably can go for the three pointers but I need to find a weak spot.'
"Sir, I have a question!" A hand raised into the air amongst the students, Present Mic gestured to the hand as a spotlight showed a tall, blue-haired boy with glasses and dressed in a flashy yellow suit who immediately stood up.
"My name is Tenya Iida, sir! You mentioned that there are three types of robots, correct? However, I'm seeing on the pamphlet that there are four types of robots! Was there a misprint? If there was, I must say that it is very unbecoming of UA to make such a mistake!"
"Nice eyes, young listener!" The blonde stated before he scratched his face. "Actually, the last is meant to be an obstacle! It is worth zero points so it's not worth going for! Make sure to avoid it! Which leads to our last portion of the test! The rescue portion! You will need to rescue as much civilians as you can while avoiding this monstrosity! It's a disaster so keep alert!"
"Got it, sir. Thank you for answering my question and my apologies for my abrupt assumption." Tenya bowed in a robotic manner before he went to sit down, Izuku wondering if the teen's quirk is something related to his robotic movements.
"Any more questions?" The blonde announcer asked, hearing nothing before he smiled and put his hand in the air. "Good! Time to show us your mettle!"
Everyone got up and left for the site for the changing rooms, the practical exam getting started as Izuku arrived at the entrance of the second portion of the exam which was a model of a city.
"Interesting...it looks like an actual city. How do they get the funding for this?" Izuku said with an expression of wonder before he swung his bat over his shoulder, the weapon having a spiked covering around the tip of the bat that makes it look like a mace. He was dressed in an aqua green tracksuit and his iconic red sneakers as he tried to keep a calm composure while he observed the place. After a while and noticing people arriving to the practical zone, he started stretching, much to the confusion and amusement of the people around him.
"What the hell is that guy doing?"
"Does he know that this is a hero test and not a baseball exam?"
"That guy must be a dumbass or something? He thinks he's gonna get through with a bat?"
"What do you think his hero name is gonna be? Metal Bat man? Swing boy?"
Ignoring the voices that commented him, Izuku practiced his swings before he heard Present Mic from the distance which made him braced himself as everyone went to the starting line.
'Alright, like all robots, these bots have screws and bolts so I will need to do is watch their movements and aim for their weak spots. Easy, right? I wonder if everyone else is feeling as nervous as I am.' Izuku turned to the rest of the participants, seeing them having victorious smirks and grins as they waited for the exam to start, much to Izuku's confusion. 'They're that confident?! Are their quirks really that powerful? I mean, from what I see, they are. Man, even that guy from the showcase of the exam looks diligent and confident. Wait, are those blow torches on his calf muscles?'
As everyone prepared themselves, Present Mic hopped on one of the buildings, spraying his mouth before he inhaled.
"START!"
On cue, Izuku made a mad dash from the starting line as fast as he could, the teen noticed a blue blur past him before the first wave of robots are destroyed. "What the? Huh?"
He saw Iida from the auditorium who was quickly disposing of the robots with his super speed, the verdette noticing his legs looking like they lit aflame as he moved. 'A speed quirk?! Seriously?!'
Coming across a one-pointer, he sprinted towards it, dodging its jabs and getting closer before he slammed his bat on the glass section where its eye is supposed to be, the spikes destroying the glass which caused it to malfunction but it was still alive. "Damn it! One more!"
Suddenly, a laser destroyed the bot, Izuku dumbfounded before he saw a blonde boy with a weird smile and a chrome belt around his belt winked at him before leaving. "Thank you, merci!"
'Did he just steal my point? Why?' Izuku thought as he continued looking for more bots in the zone.
"Interesting."
Within a dark room and watching the candidates from various screens was a couple of people nod to themselves as one started to speak. "This batch of candidates are very promising."
"Indeed. Such amazing quirks all around." One of them said as they had an eye on the camera showing a blonde teenager who was easily destroying the robots with explosions coming from his hands. "Some of them are showing great combat ability and power."
"Speaking of combat, some are using their quirk to their advantages in order to do speedy takedowns." Another said, seeing a camera showing Tenya who quickly disassembled the robots with powerful kicks while another camera showed a brown-haired girl taking down multiple of the robots by floating them into the air before letting them fall down and get crushed.
"I just don't want them to destroy the robots too bad. It takes a lot to make these guys." A lazy voice said as a man with an excavator for a head, who is dressed in blue overalls, tapped his desk with his claw-like fingers, clanging sounds echoing through the room as he did so. "I hate watching these exams! Why can't I watch the Support exams?"
"Because I said so, Power Loader." An animal said to the man who is known as Power Loader.
"I really don't like how some of them try scandalous means of taking down the robots." A purple-haired spectacled woman in a red office blouse and black skirt said as she saw one of the candidates stole another target before he went into the shadows.
"In the world of heroes and villains, there is no such thing as disgraceful. As long as we take down the villains, that's all there is to it." A long black-haired man with a tired look on his face stated as he checked the monitors. His eyes then squinted in anger when he noticed a purple-haired teenager trying to earn points but failed before he looked at another camera showing Izuku who was barely able to block a strike from a two-pointer before he smacked his bat into its eye, taking up a sharp pole to stab it which caused it to deactivate. 'There are some...failures here as well.'
"Thank you, baseball. If I didn't have you, I would be a sitting duck in this test or a master of pipes." Izuku said as he dodged a one pointer's swing, charging in and stabbing with his pole before he knocked its head off with a swing. Taking out the pole and not wasting any time, he dashed to his next target which is a two-pointer, running up a car and then jumping to bash its head in with his bat which destroyed it.
"That's ten points." Izuku said before he heard everyone else voiced their points which demoralized him when he heard that their points are in the twenties, thirties and some in the forties.
"Oh boy. Long road to go, Izuku." Izuku charged towards another robot, quickly jabbing it in the eye before he ripped off a part of its armor. Spinning the piece of scrap metal and looking around him, the teen then threw it towards the three-pointer coming towards him which embedded into its body and destroying the three-pointer. Izuku continued to take down the villain-bots as fast as he could, a bit slower than others as some of his targets were being destroyed by other candidates.
"THREE MINUTES REMAINING!"
Izuku's heart started pumping when he heard that, looking around the place in panic as he searched for another bot.
'C'mon, c'mon. Anything will do right now.' He started to think, hearing everyone's point going to the forties and fifties which made him panic. 'Nononononono.'
As Izuku's thoughts went awry, he was unaware of his body beginning to glow. As he came across a two-pointer, he picked up a sharp piece of rock and batting it towards the robot, the stone hitting the bot in the eye which caused it to die. He was able to get a few more points until he heard that there is a minute left which made him more worried. 'I only have eighteen points. I need more time.'
During this, the people within the dark room started to check the time, Present Mic watching the candidates with a grin as he drank some water. "Well, that's all that she wrote. I'm looking forward to this bunch."
"Indeed. But let's see how they will try to deal with this. Now the real test begins." A white animal said as he pressed a button. Everyone heard a loud rumbling sound as the ground started shaking, looking around with baffled and alert expressions.
"What the hell is that?"
"Is it a villain attack?"
"Hey guys. Look up!"
They all looked up in shock to see a huge green robotic behemoth that towered over the buildings. It then punched the ground, causing a huge earthquake and destroying some of the buildings near it. Izuku was not scared of the metallic creature, instead ignoring it and looking around to see if he could find any villain bots available.
"Help!" He heard a voice, turning to see a few people being trapped in rubble. 'What the?'
He then looked up to see the zero-pointer coming towards them, crushing all the rubble and destroying the building in its rampage.
"Oh no! They're gonna be hurt!" Izuku immediately ran towards them, ignoring everyone who was running away from the massive robot, including Tenya who was baffled by his actions. 'What is he doing? Does he want to fight that thing? Is he trying to get killed?'
"Come on!" Izuku tried to use the pole to move the debris but it bent under the weight, he then turned to Present Mic. "Present Mic, there are people that are trapped here! We need to save them!"
"What? I'll try to stop the robot." The Voice Hero said mockingly as he tried to turn it off which did nothing as it continued to approach them, much to his surprise. "It's not working. Why?"
"O-oh…no…" Izuku said as he thought about the situation, looking around the place to notice more people stuck in the rubble. "Crap!"
"Try to save them while I get the robot to stop!" Present Mic announced at the top of his lungs, the candidates heard this before they went to help the civilains in the rubble. The others candidates as they watched Izuku able to help a man out of the debris before their eyes widened.
"You think this is the rescue portion?"
"I dunno but those people are in danger. We need to move."
Tenya was surprised when he saw Izuku using all his might to push a boulder out of the way. 'Does he know?'
'Think of the situation. If there is someone here with a super strength quirk, this could be done in a flash.' Izuku thought in a panic before he saw someone passed him and touched the rubble, causing it to float which made the people able to escape the debris.
"Oh, you're ok-" Before he could help, he saw a blur pass him, Iida picking up the people to bring to safety. Izuku tried to help but was pushed out of the way by the other candidates, seeing the difference between him and the others are being their quirks. He realized how amazing they are compared to him as he could only watch.
'Why are you so damn worthless, Deku?'
A voice resonated in Izuku's head which made him frustrated. He then willed his resolve before he ran to another section, searching for more people stuck in the rubble. Finding more survivors, Izuku tried to observe the situation before he took a piece of a villain bot's and his bat to hold up the debris which managed to get some people out, they all are thanking him for saving their lives.
Not wasting time, he went to another section to do it again which failed when he felt a tremor, the rubble started to get unstable which made him worried.
'Shit.' Izuku thought before he turned to both two girls, one who had short, bob-cut brown hair and the other had orange hair with a ponytail tied to the side. "H-hey, I-I know it's a wrong time but what are your quirks?!"
"Huh?" The brown-haired girl blinked, Izuku picking another piece of one of the villain bots before he gestured them to the spot where he was. "T-there's n-not much t-time. Let me know your quirk. We n-need a way to get t-these people out of this."
"Oh!" The brunette before she started explaining. "I can make anything I touch float."
"I can increase the size of my hands. Also, the name's Kendo." The orange girl said before she saw the place starting to crumble, the orange haired immediately going to work as she increased the size of her hands and lifted the rubble. Izuku quickly dashed and used the piece of the bot to keep the place stable before he turned to the brunette. "Hey, can you make those rocks that Ms. Kendo is lifting float, please? Umm..."
"Ochaco Uraraka. And sure." She said as she touched the rubble which caused Kendo to almost lose her balance at how light the rubble is. "Steady please. Lift them up steadily. We can't allow for any of the rubble to be unstable. I'll go in and escort them. Ms. Uraraka, can you stay here? Your powers may be good for people who can't move on their own."
"Got it." Kendo and Uraraka nodded in unison before he grabbed some more villain bot parts and dashed into the rubble, much to the two girls' surprise. Going through the rubble, he noticed that the place was fairly secure before he sees the victims in the claustrophobic place. "We need to leave quickly! There is a robot coming towards us. We'll led you to safety!"
"Oh! Someone's saved us!" One of them said as Izuku led them towards the opening, noticing how Izuku secured the place from the inside through the use of poles and bits and pieces of the robots. 'Interesting ingenuity, amazing resourcefulness.'
The place then started to shake again, Izuku is happy that his plan to secure the cave helped until he felt another tremor. "Ms. Kendo. What's going on out there?"
"The zero pointer...it's super close now." Kendo said, Izuku then decided to let everyone move quickly, Ochaco doing her best to aiding the injured ones by floating them. As the three were able to successfully get the civilians and carried them to the entrance, Izuku was looking around the place before he noticed the robotic behemoth punching the ground which created another shockwave that damaged the buildings around them, causing the debris to fly towards them. 'This isn't good.'
"MOVE! We need to go-" He said before noticing a stone was about to hit a civilian, quickly knocking it away with his bat. Seeing more stones coming towards them, he looked at the entrance, seeing Iida at the entrance. 'The fast guy from the auditorium. That dude's name is…'
"Iida!" He shouted, getting the spectacled teen's attention. Izuku noticed a few more rubble coming to him which he batted away, one of them hitting him in the arm but he still continued. 'Damn, my arm!'
"Save the civilians! Some of them are injured so they can't move as fast." The verdette shouted as he continued to ward off the rocks, ignoring the pain in his arm. Iida nodded as he went to get the civilians, some of them helping the two girls including a tall, masked dude with multiple arms, a raven-haired girl with long earlobes along with a purple haired dude with a tired expression. Getting overwhelmed by the rubble, Izuku almost got hit by a barrage of pebbles before a wave of lightning destroyed the stones, much to Izuku's surprise before he turned to see a blonde-haired boy with a lightning streak in his hair. "You're ok, dude?"
"Yeah! Uhh-" Izuku noticed a huge boulder coming towards them, being worried beyond belief before he turned to the blonde dude who was crackling with lightning. "Hey, are you able to destroy that?"
"Dunno. Let me try! Have at ye!" The blonde said before he charged up and shot a blast of electricity that collided with the boulder, one of the bolts missing Izuku. The beam hit the rubble, lighting up the entire area as it started to crack the rubble and creating an explosion.
"Woah! He's strong." The green-haired teenager covered his eyes against the shockwave before his eyes widened in shock when he saw the rock being smaller but still coming towards them.
"Oh crap! It's still coming at us! Can you shoot another blast?" Izuku turned to see the blonde dude with a funny face as he put two thumbs up in the air before he fell to the ground. "Wheeeyyy…"
"I beg your pardon!" The freckled boy was surprised by this before he turned to the entrance, seeing no one willing to help and scared of the rubble coming towards him. Clenching his fists and getting frustrated, Izuku ignored everyone as he looked around the place.
'So you all are gonna stand there and watch the boulder come towards you. Damn, where the hell is Present Mic? This isn't a part of the test.'
Seeing no sign of the hero, he clicked his teeth before he dashed towards the rock; picking up one of the sturdy shields from the three-pointer along the way and raised it in front of him with his bat in his other arm.
"What are you doing?!" Kendo yelled but Izuku ignored them as his body tensed up, a spark of energy flowing through his body which felt like an adrenaline rush.
'This feeling again...' The verdette thought as his body glowed intensely, veins bulging on his body as he collided with the boulder. Being pushed back by the huge stone, Izuku gritted his teeth before he noticed a hole where the lightning hit.
"Maybe..." The teen pushed the bat into the hole, making the crack bigger.
'C'mon. Slow down, you piece of rock. At least crack in two and go anywhere from the entrance.' Izuku gritted his teeth as he pushed back against the rubble with all his might. 'C'mon, damn it! C'mon!'
"YYYYEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!" A powerful sound wave destroyed the rubble coming towards them, much to everyone surprise. Falling on his back, Izuku smiled when he saw Present Mic approaching them, his consciousness fading before his eyes closed as he heard the last words from the hero.
"The exam is now over!"
"That is amazing." A small person resembling a mouse or bear cub said as he jumped off his seat. Everyone else nodded before a masked man with a cowboy hat tipped his hat at the camera showing Izuku's unconscious form. "I have to say. The kid who was fighting with the bat had a lot of spirit! I like that!"
"That kid with the green hair is not bad." The long-haired man said which made everyone in the room surprised, the woman in the business suit started to speak. "To hear that out of you is rare, Shouta."
"I said he's not bad, it doesn't mean that he's hero material, Nemuri." Shouta got up and left the room with his hands in his pockets. "He's gonna have to try harder if he wants to get into the hero course."
"I can never get a read on that guy." A white-haired man in a red outfit scratched his hair as Power Loader simply nodded in agreement.
"Well, let's get everything sorted and start scoring these kids!" The mouse, bear thing said with a paw in the air, the teachers lifted their hands but not to the same vigor as him. "Yeah..."
It was days after the exam, Izuku had a worried look on his face as he was working on the cash register with Aoi watching him. 'I hope I don't fail the exam. I did not Was that a surprise exam to put our rescue capabilities to the test?'
"Izuku." Izuku was snapped out of his thoughts when Aoi shook him out of his trance. "You're thinking out loud."
"O-oh, sorry. My bad." The teen said as he continued taking orders from the customers in the line, Aoi taking over the register and switching with him before he heard Naomi. "Izu, take this to table 3!"
"Yes, ma'am." Izuku nodded as he went to serve the customers for the rest of his shift which managed to put his mind off the test. After a while, it was lunch time, Izuku passed by Aoi who gave him a thumbs up. "Good job today with your work."
"O-oh, thank you." Izuku bowed before she threw a candy bar at him which he caught. "Don't beat up yourself, ok. You did your best and that's all that matters."
Hearing that made the teen smile as he thanked her. Going to the break room, Izuku checked his phone while eating a melon bun before he noticed Naomi bursting through the door with a letter in her hand that has a red 'UA' stamp. "Izuku! The letter is here! Your results are here! Go on, open it!"
She handed him the letter, Izuku looked at the white envelope for a while before he put it in his pocket. "I'll look at this later. I want to finish work first."
Naomi let out a sigh of disappointment before she folded her arms and smiled, respecting his choice as they got back to work. After he finished his work and the day is finished, Izuku went to his room and opened the envelope which made a circular disk fall onto his desk before it gave a hologram of a person who looked like a humanoid cement block.
"Greetings, Midoriya. My name is Ken Ishiyama but you may know me as the Pro Hero Cementoss." Izuku nodded before the man continued.
"You passed the written exams with one of the best scores in the exam. I must commend you on that. You made history!" When Izuku heard this, a small smile came upon his face before he noticed the change in the man's expression. "However, your score in the practical exam is a measly eighteen points. Fortunately, your score in the rescue section of the test was high due to you being able to make plans on the dot, you've gotten a whopping sixty points! However, this is not enough to allow you pass this to get to the hero course as you need passing grades on all portions. In conclusion..."
Izuku smile fell when he heard the next words that came. "You failed, Izuku Midoriya."
Izuku slumped back in his seat with a sigh after hearing that, his heart fell and his chest feeling so much pain from the man's words. He then steeled himself and willed back his tears as much as he could. He hated this. All of his training, his efforts, everything. It was for nothing.
"However..."
Izuku looked up from his desk, seeing Cementoss holding up a paper before he begun to read. "We have a remedial course available for people like yourself. You have shown great promise and because of your excellent marks in the written and rescue exams, you're qualified for this course. With this course, you can get a second chance to going back to the Hero Program through a mock exam at the end of this course. If you train hard enough, you can make it your hero academia. I bid you farewell, Izuku Midoriya."
As the hologram faded, Izuku did not know how to feel as he looked down at the ground with a conflicted expression before he picked up the item. Looking at the circular disk in his hand, the teen leaned on the wall before he turned to the window and gazed at the city, processing everything that happened for the past few days.
He failed the UA entrance examination. On the other hand, he has another chance to get into the hero course through the remedial course. Taking the time to calm himself, the teen could not shake the feeling of anger and jealousy that he felt at the exams.
That day, he realized the difference between him and the people who have quirks.
'I hate this. I hate being powerless.'
Shaking in frustration, he clenched his fists tightly before he decided to sit down on the ground with his legs crossed before he looked at his suitcase, seeing a blue covered notebook that was titled 'Heroics Tactics' before he opened it up, seeing the notes that he made on that day based on the candidates' quirks. 'They have such cool quirks. It sometimes makes me feel sick sometimes when I see them using their quirks without a care in the world...I wish I was in their shoes.'
After a while, Izuku took out his phone, decided to make a call to his mother as he brushed the cover of his new notebook as he waited for her to answer. "H-hello, Izuku. How was your exam? How was your job with Nao?"
Izuku had a smile on his face at his mother's antics, feeling some comfort from hearing her voice before he answered. "H-hey, Mom. Everything is ok. How are you and Yu?"
"Yu's alright. She's doing her homework. Yu, say hi to your brother." She said, the teen hearing his sister bouncing in the background before he heard his sister's voice. "Hi, Big Bro Uku! I learned to dwaw at school today."
"That's great!" Izuku answered, Yumemi giggling before she started to explain her school day to great detail as he silently and patiently listened until she got tired. "You really enjoyed yourself at school. Did you make any friends?"
"Yup, I did. Oh, Mommy wants to talk to you. Good night, Uku!" She yawned before she gave the phone to her mother who is back onto the phone. "She's gone to her room. Well, what's wrong? Hope Nao hasn't been too hard with you on the job."
Izuku paused as he wanted to talk about the exam, his chest hurting before he changed the subject. "How's Dad?"
His mother let out a sigh on the other end when she heard the question. "Still in the hospital. He's not showing any signs of waking up right now but his heart rate has been shown to have gotten better."
"Oh...that's good." Izuku looked at the ground, silence taking over until Inko spoke. "Izuku. What's wrong?"
"Huh?"
"I know when you're hiding something from me and when you're hurting. You're very stubborn, Izuku. I'm proud of you for what you have become. Doing things on your own and your hardworking attitude but sometimes...it's good to understand your limits. It's not weak to talk about your feelings."
"..." Izuku's expression darkened until he spoke. "I failed the UA exam, Mom."
The call was silent for a while, Izuku closed his eyes in disappointment as he waited for his mother's word until his mother spoke.
"Then try again."
Hearing that, Izuku's eyes widened as he heard those words.
"Izuku, know that I love you and I believe in you. I also know that being quirkless did not stop you before as much you wanted to believe it did. So why should this stop you now?" Inko's voice was on the verge of breaking despite her sounding cheerful which did not go unnoticed by Izuku. "I never told you but I want you to know that I believe in you. Don't let this bring you down, ok? Just keep doing your best, Izuku. Find your own way. But promise me to be safe and be careful...please?"
"I will, Mom. I'll be careful." Izuku said with a smile as a stray tear came down his face. "Thank you so much."
"I'm just stating the facts. Take it one step at a time. Your father would say the same thing." After the call was finished, Izuku put down the phone, a small smile on his face before he balled himself up in deep thought.
'I don't give up, huh?'
On the other end, Inko put down the phone, her shoulders shaking as she put her head on the table and grabbed her hair. 'Why did I encourage him? I don't want him to be hurt. Not like Hisashi...'
Inko started sobbing as she looked at her phone, seeing a picture of a blushing Izuku after getting his haircut three years ago. 'I don't want to deny him his dreams but I want him to be careful. I don't want to be hurt like he was years ago.'
She took a deep breath before she turned off the lights in the kitchen, she went past Yumemi's room to see her sleeping soundly which made her smile as she tucked her daughter in and kissing her on the forehead. She then came across Izuku's room, putting a hand on the door before she closed her eyes.
'Please...please...be safe...that is all I ask for my baby boy...that's all I want for my family...I can't go through this again...'
Inko then went to her room, taking out a half-finished green and white outfit along with her sewing equipment. Tracing her fingers against the fabric, she smiled as she got to work with sewing the jumpsuit. Inko glanced at a photo of a younger her and Hisashi holding hands, her gaze lowered at her belly being big as she had a huge smile on her face.
"Sometimes I hate how much you haunt me, you jerk." The woman said as she floated a small object to hit Hisashi's face in the photo before she continued to sew the jumpsuit. "Do your best, Izuku. And I'll do my best for you."
"Here you go, a pink milkshake and a bowl of ramen!" Izuku said with a smile while he served the food, giving the milkshake to the girl and the ramen to a man on the same table before he bowed a bit robotically. "Hope you enjoy."
"He's been working hard for the past few days." Kokoa commented, getting a nod of Aoi. Naomi laughed loudly before she sneered at her daughter. "He's taking his job seriously. Unlike a certain fatass who is just watching."
"Alright, I'll go serve table 6."
"He already did that." Aoi chimed in after serving a customer, much to Kokoa's surprise before she scratched her head. "Ummm...table 1-"
"Did that too."
"Table 4?"
"Oh, yeah. Good one." Aoi said, Kokoa pumping her fist in victory before Aoi stopped her. "He's serving them now."
"Damn it! C'mon!" Kokoa complained, getting a laugh from Naomi as she watched Izuku who was working with a bright smile on his face. 'Inko...he's gonna be just fine...'
'I gotta work harder. Much harder than anyone.' That thought coursing through Izuku's mind and fueling his drive as he continued running about the place and serving customers. During lunch time, he went to the mailbox and put in a letter which showed the acceptance letter for the UA's remedial course.
Chapter finished. Things have changed. It has been 3 years since the last chapter and we're finally here to UA. So much happened from here. This chapter is alright. I had a lot of fun writing the UA exam tests and honestly showing Izuku's change. Also, yeah. He failed but at least he got some points. Let's see how he will do with the remedial courses. Well, hope that you enjoy the chapter and story so far. Take care! Enigma out!
