It has been weeks since UA's official hero courses have started and since then, all of the Remedial course students are hard at work, especially a certain duo has been hard at work as they trained on both their quirks and muscles with the free time that they have. Due to their hyper training, Hitoshi is able to bulk up a little and get physically stronger while Izuku is able to have some control over his quirk, being able to maintain his glow along with it having less strain on his body.
Right now, Hitoshi and Izuku were continuing their training in the Kawasaki abandoned junkyard, the two sparring with each other with Hitoshi able to hold his own a little more against Izuku. Landing a few punches which were blocked by his opponent, Hitoshi went for a kick but he was countered by a leg sweep that made him fall on his back.
"Ow...dude, you don't hold back." The purple-haired teenager held his head before Izuku held out his hand and pulled him up. The verdette looked around the place before he took out his phone. "We're strapped for time. We're almost halfway through the time duration for the course and we don't have an exact method to beating the robots yet. Plus, rush hour has been doing a lot to me for the past few days."
"Struggle is real, huh?" Hitoshi commented, getting a nod from Izuku.
"Well, let's go, Shinso. Let's train our quirks now." Izuku said as he skipped in one place, Hitoshi nodded before he focused himself. "Who volunteers themselves to be a guinea pig?"
"Me!" Izuku pointed at himself.
"That's not something to be proud of!" Hitoshi yelled at the verdette before he took a deep breath and then glared at him. Izuku was hopping in place until he paused, a blank expression on his face as he stood still which surprised the violet-haired teenager. "Midoriya, you good?
"Did it work?" Hitoshi stated, calling for Izuku one more time which failed. He then smiled until Izuku came back to normal and became conscious which surprised him. "How do you feel?"
"A bit dazed but I'm ok. Your brain freeze is getting better." The verdette held his head and feeling a bit dizzy before he massaged his temples. "Let's try it again. You'll probably get your Brain Freeze better then."
The two practiced on Hitoshi quirk for an hour, Hitoshi able to get a handle of his new power but his brain started to hurt him a little. "Can we take a break, Midoriya? My head hurts."
Nodding, Izuku agreed with his partner who fell on the ground and drank some water, the verdette letting out a sigh before he tried to activate his quirk, getting a dim glow before it disappeared. Taking a deep breath, he outstretched his arm before he closed his eyes and concentrated, the glow channeling around his arm. 'Still a bit hard but it's better than before."
He then turned to Hitoshi. "Alright, give me the order. I need to try something with my quirk."
Hitoshi groaned before he sighed. "Use your quirk."
Izuku's mind went blank as his body involuntarily used the quirk, Hitoshi noticing he is not coming out of his daze before he spoke again. "Snap out of it."
"Alright, focus." He focused his mind and meditated, clapping his hands and closing his eyes as veins started to appear on his body. 'Keep the glow. Deep breaths, Izuku.'
Izuku's body managed to maintain the glow, the veins on his body beginning to recede as he steadily took breaths. After a few minutes of silence, he relaxed himself as he looked at himself in the mirror to see the glow on his body before he put a red headband around his head and made notes. 'It has been a few weeks since Hitoshi and I started training, since then, I had a bit of control over the quirk. I still have issues activating it but now I can at least maintain the power and turn it off due to muscle memory. Now let me test again on what my abilities are.'
Putting down his notebook, he turned to the car and then punched the vehicle with all his strength which caused a dent. 'I don't have super strength. Good thing I'm wearing gloves.'
Hitoshi watched as the verdette leaped into the air but failed, making notes in his notebook as he did so. "I'm surprised you can keep the glow for so long."
"Yeah. I've been experimenting it in my room. Apparently, the glow drains my body of its energy because it overloads my body but since I've been using it a lot for the last couple weeks, I won't black out easily. It still makes me extremely tired though." Izuku quickly took an energy drink, dumping the water down before he threw it away. "However, if I try to regulate myself by taking steady breaths and not use too much energy, I won't have to black out. At least I got how to activate down pat but it takes a while for me to be able to use it and there's the fact that I don't know what it does."
"It could be connected with one of your parents' quirks." Hitoshi suggested. "My mother can make people feel calm and relaxed and Dad can make people shut up once they talk to him."
"Huh?" Izuku's eyes blinked before he slapped himself in the face and groaned. "Ughhh...I feel so stupid. Why didn't I think of that?"
"What?" Hitoshi raised a brow as Izuku continued to groan. "I was so focused on knowing what my quirk is that I wasn't thinking about where my roots came from. I mean, my mom has lift small objects with her mind and my dad can breathe fire. I could be able to use one of their powers. Ughh..."
Calming down, Izuku got up and took in some air, gritting his teeth before he blew out the air which resulted in nothing coming out of his mouth. Trying a couple more times, the verdette was introduced with failure which made him let out a disappointed sigh.
"Well, that rules out my Dad's Flame Breath quirk. Maybe I have Mom's mini-telepathy." Izuku crouched on the ground, looking at a pebble on the ground before he outstretched his arms to it.
'Focus. Try to move the rock.' Trying to focus, Izuku's eyes start to let out a glow as he gritted his teeth. His hair started to swirl and move around as he cupped his hands around the pebble. "Dude, are you ok?"
Veins started to bulge from Izuku's body as he strained all of his focus on the stone which did nothing.
'C'mon. Do something.'
After a while, silence resonated through the area as nothing happened, Izuku's hands slowly balled into fists and his body shaking in anger.
'W-why?'
"Damn it!" He slammed his hands onto the ground, Hitoshi surprised by his outburst.
"Seriously, nothing?! I don't have super strength, I can't breathe fire, I can't unleash electricity and I'm unable to shoot blasts!" Izuku said as he punched one of the car windows. Taking a deep breath, the teen's eyes glowed before he let out an exhale, punching the car in anger which caused the car to shake and to make a dent in the vehicle. Completely frustrated, Izuku put his hands on the windows and looked at his reflection as the glow on his body faded away.
"There has to be something I can doo..." Izuku trailed off as he fell to the ground, leaning on the car with a tired expression. "Seriously? Out of all the quirks I could get, it has to be a one and done."
Hitoshi watched Izuku who was completely silent and looking at the ground, understanding how the green-haired young adult feel as he was about to talk. Suddenly, they heard an explosion, Izuku looking around the place, his body moving groggily. "What was that?"
"Probably a raccoon or mouse." Hitoshi said before they heard another collapsing, a yelp following which made Izuku worried as he ran towards the sound. "I'll go check just in case."
As soon as he got to the source of the sound, Izuku noticed a pair of legs poking out of a pile of metal scraps, the teen running towards them. "Are you ok?"
"Mmpphhhhmmm!" He heard a muffled sound before he slapped himself in the face. 'Of course, they're not gonna be alright. Think, Izuku. Think.'
"I-I'm gonna get you out!" He said before carefully removing all the junk before carefully pulling them out, the person being taken out safe and sound as the pile collapsed.
"Hey, a-are you ok?" Izuku coughed, seeing a girl with pink hair, her hair in a dreadlock like pattern. "Yeeeaaah. Thanks!"
The girl went face to face with him, Izuku now noticed that the girl was covered in dirt and oil. What caught his attention being her yellow, green eyes that has a crosshair in the center of them. 'Her eyes look like those things in the first-person shooter games. I think they're called bullseyes or something. Or was it scope lenses? It could be-'
"Hey, Midoriya. You alright over here?" Hitoshi ran over to him only to have a sly smile when he saw the girl. "Well, someone has been busy."
"N-No, it's not what you think!" Izuku blushed intensely, his head looking a tomato. "She's-"
"Thanks for the help!" The girl said which stopped the two boys before Izuku noticed how close she was to his face which made him fall back out of surprise, getting a laugh from Hitoshi.
"I-it's not funny." Izuku mumbled only to see that she is still near his face, making him hold his hands over his face and blush. He noticed that the girl was dressed in a grey tank top and black baggy pants and boots. "I-i-it's no problem. G-glad t-to help."
"What were you doing anyways?" Hitoshi folded his arms, Izuku letting out a sigh of relief when the girl backed off to pick up a bag filled with metal scraps and parts. "Parts shopping."
This had confused expressions from the two males. "Parts..."
"...shopping?"
"Yeah. I was looking around the city for any place with scrap metal and I found this place. It's practically heaven. So much here to use for my babies."
"Babies?" The two boys said in confusion before Hitoshi spoke up. "Aren't you 18? That was quick."
Izuku put a finger on his chin before he started mumbling. "So what do she mean by babies? Does it have something to do with her quirk? People do have quirks that can produce things. That could be what she means. Or-"
"No! It's these!" She lifted a gadget in her hand, the item looked like a bag with metals on the side and holes at the bottom. Seeing the item, the verdette looking at it with a raised brow before he held it in his rand. "Is this supposed to be like a jetpack or something?"
"Yeah! It's not complete because I need some parts for the exam." She said excitedly as she picked up a few more scraps of metal, her irises changing in size as she inspected them before she threw them in her bag. "So, I'm looking for anything here that's useful."
"Exam?" Hitoshi said, Izuku curious as well as they watched the girl unscrewed a part of a vehicle.
"Yeah. They said I failed the entrance exam for the Support Department so I'm taking the redo. They failed to understand my genius...although it ended in an explosion." She said excitedly as she extracted parts of the vehicle's engine. "So I'm trying to make the perfect support item!"
"O-oh, cool. Then that means-" Izuku was cut off when he felt hands groping his body, seeing the girl grabbing him with a smile on her face. "I never thought I would find androids here. That's so cool. I wonder what kind of battery you have."
"I-I'm a real person. I-I-I'm not a robot." Izuku stuttered to no avail as she continued with her hands-on approach, not stopping even when Izuku tried to push her away. "Huh? You're not a robot. No robot has muscles this defined. Oh, and are those abs?"
"C-c-can you make her stop with your quirk, Shinso?" Izuku called to Hitoshi who was trying his best not to laugh. "Don't worry. You got it."
"Shinso!"
They then heard an alarm, the girl looked down at her watch before she quickly picked up her bag then left quickly while waving at them. "Oh, gotta go! See you, weird guys!"
"Aren't you the weird one?" Izuku mumbled quietly before he noticed something which made his eyes wide and him touching his head with a shocked expression. Hitoshi whistled playfully before a hand grasped his shoulder, turning to see an angered Izuku who had a menacingly calm smile on his face. "You didn't help me when I was in vain."
"Hey, man. Calm down." Hitoshi said before he felt the weights of the verdette's hands. "I'll be working you to the bone with your training today."
"NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Hitoshi yelled to the sky, everyone in the area hearing his screams of agony.
As Izuku trained the purple-haired teenager with pushups and situps, they were unaware of the window that Izuku punched, the window having a crack on the place where he punched. Pieces of the glass fell down from that place along with the rock showing to have cracks on the sides of it.
"Shinso, again!" Shouta shouted when he looked at Hitoshi who is on the ground and tangled in a binding cloth. "This weapon is not like a regular rope. You need to be more creative and put more effort into this weapon."
Shouta demonstrated his skills with the capturing weapon which Hitoshi observed as he experimented with his weapon. After he was finished, he continued training with his student before he turned to Izuku to see the teen training with his quirk, his body glowing intermittently as he did some shadow boxing to find out what his power is which made the underground hero very surprised. 'He has better control of his quirk. To think in such a short time, he's able to activate it and able to get around the drawback of the power.'
Touma, on the other hand, was a bit worried when he looked at the verdette's form before he decided to voice his worry. "Midoriya!"
"Umm. Yes, sir." Izuku said as the man gestured him to have a walk with him to which the verdette obliged. After a minute of walking, the teacher turned to his student with his arms crossed, the green-haired teen feeling a bit awkward. 'Am I gonna get expelled? Did I mess up in my stance or something? Did I-"
"You look up to All Might, don't you?" Touma asked Izuku, surprising the verdette. "Wha? How did you know?"
The teacher's gaze lowered at the All Might keychain on his phone. 'Hmm. I wonder why.'
"Anyways, I want to talk to you about how you're using your quirk." Touma took out his gun and loaded it with rubbery bullets, Izuku raised a brow as the man spun the rifle in his finger. "Oh, ok."
"How does it feel when you use it?" The teacher started his questioning, Izuku rubbing his head and looking at the ground. "Oh. It feels like my body and muscles are on fire. It is better now since I have to use it like a flicker to prevent from hurting me too much."
"What do you have to do to use it?" Touma said as he aimed his gun at a bullseye.
"Well, I activate it by-"
"Stop!" Touma shouted as he shot his gun which hit the bullseye which silenced Izuku. "W-what?"
"That's your problem with this. Your mindset is the issue here."
"Huh?" Izuku was confused as the man explained as he aimed at the bullseye. "What do you think a quirk is?"
"A power that manifests from someone's body." Izuku answered honestly which made the teacher nodded. "That is the short version but correct. It comes from within your body. Every quirk differs from each other. Even ones that seem to be the same. No one can be the same."
Izuku was surprised by the man's explanation. He knew this already but he nodded as the man continued. "Use your quirk. Let me know how you're trying to use it."
The verdette nodded before he closed his arms and flexed his body, his body glowing intensely after a while of concentrating. Touma observed the teen before he put down his gun and folded his arms as he saw his student swing his arms and legs which made him nod. "And there it is."
"Huh?" Izuku stopped. "What do you mean?"
"You're trying too hard to be like All Might, kid." Touma said as he shot another bullet which hit the other bullseye perfectly before he wiped his rifle. "We can only have one All Might. All Might is a demigod that rose through the ranks of the charts. He's a natural but you. You're different, Midoriya. You're a smart and clever teenager who trained extremely hard to get where you are now. Also, you just learned about your quirk which is very hard to use and despite that, you're not deterred."
Izuku was caught off guard by the statement before he looked at his hands before his teacher put a staff in his hand. "You're going to need to train your own way of thinking about your powers. You need to learn to use that quirk your own way. The 'Izuku Midoriya' way. There are things All Might can do that you can't and it's ok. Make your own mark instead of trying to replicate the one that All Might made. Because they are things you can do that All Might cannot do."
Hearing this made Izuku stunned, things that he can do that All Might cannot. Is that even possible?
Izuku spun the staff in his hand but he lost his grip and it fell. "Failure is not the end of the world. It is a lesson worth taking note of. Think of your quirk as an extension of yourself. Stop looking at your quirk like it's something special. It is a part of you and no one can replace that. Also, have more confidence in yourself. It's your quirk and your path."
After saying that, Touma left Izuku to his lonesome, the teen picking up the staff and looked at it for a while as the talk resonated with his mind.
"My own way..."
"I am here!" All Might stated as he stood up with a smile, laughing as he made a thumbs up. "So you should never fear!"
"I forgot I had that on." Izuku thought as he did a handstand, walking around the room on his hands as he tried to shake the nervousness from his body. He then went to his phone and used his toe to stop the alarm, getting a smile out of him until his door flew open.
"Izmi! I need your help!" Kokoa shouted before she grabbed him by the leg which made him lose his balance and fall on his back as she dragged him downstairs. "Mom need you now right now to help her with some boxes from the food truck that we got for the cafe!"
"Wa-wait-ow! Ca-can you slow down?" Izuku's head keep bumping the steps before she dragged him in front of Naomi. "Got him, Mom!"
"You dumb idiot! I said take him here, not drag him like a broom!" Naomi smacked the girl on her head, Kokoa letting go of Izuku's leg, much to his relief. 'Oh, sweet release.'
"Shut it, Mom! I followed your instructions! Get off my back!"
"And your answer is a concussion!" Naomi stated. As they both argued with each other, Izuku picked up the boxes and took them to the freezer. The green-haired teenager took the time to train his body by carrying two boxes at a time while doing squats.
'I need to train myself if I need to pass the Remedial course and be able to hold a candle to those people. But what can I do? My spiked bat can only do so much and I don't know what my quirk can do. Maybe I need two of them.' Izuku wore a serious expression as he continued carrying the boxes. Putting down the last stack of boxes, Izuku noticed one of the towers of boxes starting to tip over and fall which surprised him.
"Oh no!" He dashed towards the box, able to catch one as he tried to prevent the rest from falling over. The floor under his feet started to slip which made him let out a groan as he turned to the entrance. "Hey! I need some help here."
Hearing nothing from anyone, the teen was worried as he tried with all his might to rectify the situation. As he continued with his struggle, Izuku's body started to glow before he was able to push back the boxes and make them stable, wiping his brow. "Whew! That was cl-"
Noticing that his body is glowing, Izuku paused before he let out a sigh of disappointment. "I wasn't looking forward to being drained today."
He groaned, going to pick up the box until he noticed before he saw the box a bit further from him. "Huh? It wasn't here before. Did I kick it by accident or something?"
Going towards it, he then noticed other items around him are far away from him. Remembering what Hitoshi and Touma said about his quirk, Izuku's eyes widened as he looked at his hands before he walked towards the object. 'I wonder...'
Izuku remembered something that he learned from middle school.
"A quirk is what defines the supernatural abilities that you have. It is produced through an organ in our body that is called a quirk factor. Almost everyone possesses one, those who do not are dubbed quirkless." As the teacher said that, he shot a glare at Izuku before he continued. "Because the quirk factor is an organ, a quirk can be derived from a power within the bloodline of the quirk user's family. It is due to this that back then, quirk-based marriages were on the rise so that someone could give birth to a child with a powerful quirk."
"You want to know about the quirks of my family?" Hisashi raised a brow, a three-year old Izuku nodding with a huge smile on his face. Hisashi scratched his cheek before he lifted his child and put him on his shoulder as they looked from their yard and enjoyed the wind. "Well...Quirkwise, the Midoriya family is an odd family. My grandfather can cough sparks and your grandmother cannot be burnt by fire. Thinking about it, we don't have offensive quirks. Well...except for your old man."
"Oh! That means I could breathe fire like you!" Izuku shouted, trying to breathe fire which made Hisashi happy until his son asked another question. "What about Mom's family? What are they like?"
"Koko's family is a complicated one." Hisashi smiled as he thought about the right words to say. "They are filled with mostly telepaths, I guess. Well, you could call them telepaths."
"Huh? Seriously? Mom's so cool!" Izuku said, Hisashi smiling as he ruffles the child's black hair. "Yep! Your mother's awesome! I wish she would give herself some credit. I hope you have a quirk similar to her."
"Sashi! What are you telling our baby now?" Inko emerged from the house as she brought a tray with three glasses of lemonade.
"Oh come on, Koko! I'm telling him how awesome you are!" Hisashi said as they shared a kiss, the man putting Izuku on a seat and gave him a glass with a stray in it. The raven-haired boy turned to his mother as he drank his juice. "Yeah, Mom! Dad was saying you were awesome and how cool your quirk is!"
"Me? My quirk? I'm not that cool. I-it's not that cool." Inko said with a blush, a frown on her face before Hisashi hugged her. "You are! And don't let anyone tell you otherwise."
"Yeah! Mom! Oh yeah! Mom, how do you use your quirk?" Izuku said excitedly as his mother wiped his face before she put a hand on her chin. "How do I use my quirk?"
Inko then outstretched her arm towards a glass on the tray, making it float and pulling it to her before it went into her hand. "I guess I need to think of it like a rope that I'm using to pull anything I can towards me. I do it so naturally, I don't even think about. If it's too heavy, I can't pull it."
"That's so cool, Mom!" Izuku smiled widely. "You're cool! I wish I have a quirk like yours."
"Just be you, Izuku." Inko said as both parents put their hands on his shoulders and ruffled his hair, smiles on their faces. "Any quirk that you have will make you cool."
Izuku's eyes glowed white as he outstretched his arm and balled his hand into a fist, gritting his teeth as he took a breath and pulled his arm towards him. Remembering what his teacher said, he calmed himself down before he closed his eyes. "Think of it as an extension of myself. Think...naturally."
'Pull!' He thought as he pulled his hand.
Nothing happened but that did not deter or discourage Izuku who exhaled strongly while thrusted his hand forward as he mentally shouted loudly.
'Push!'
Nothing happened again, the room enveloped in silence.
After a while, Izuku dropped to his knees, laughing hysterically as his face hit the ground. "This is a joke. This is a damn joke."
"This is a freaking joke!" He slammed his hands on the ground. Hearing something skidding on the floor, Izuku lifted his gaze to see a box sliding away from him. His eyes widened in shock until he noticed the other boxes also sliding away from him.
"There's no way..." Izuku said before he went to the box only for it be slide quicker and further from him. "Huh?"
Izuku's body then felt drained as he fell to the ground, the teen quickly turning off his quirk which allowed his body to relax as he sat on the ground. Trying to get back his breath and regain his energy, the teen looked at his hands. "My quirk..."
Trying again with his quirk, Izuku glowed again before he put his hand on the box before he closed his eyes. 'Push!'
As he did that, he heard skidding sounds, seeing the box sliding away from his hand along with some other things being pushed away from his body. Witnessing this, a smile spread across his face as some tears went down his cheek. "Finally...finally...I know what my quirk can do..."
Izuku could not wait as he worked his shift, everyone a bit taken aback by the aura of happiness from the green-haired teenager. Later that day, Izuku met Hitoshi at the junkyard for their daily training there. The verdette was smiling brightly which Hitoshi noticed. "What's got you grinning so much?"
"Oh! I got something I want to show you!" The green-haired teenager grinned which got his partner a bit unnerved.
"So what did you want to show me? I was studying just now." Hitoshi folded his arms, a tired expression on his face. Izuku looked at him with a brow raised. "You were playing Mario kart. And losing terribly at that, Mindreaper88. Sorry about the red shells by the way."
"Hold up! Were you Zuku99?" Hitoshi said before he grabbed Izuku by the collar and shook him violently. "I could've won if it wasn't for that blue shell you threw!"
"Sorry about that but enough of that, let me show you what I discovered." Izuku said out of excitement which is surprising to the purple-haired teenager. Picking up a pebble, Izuku focused and closed his eyes, his body glowing as he held up the stone in his hand. Hitoshi was surprised when he saw Izuku's eyes turned white as he held the arm holding the pebble, his mind completely focused on one command.
'Push!'
Taking a deep breath, the stone in Izuku's hand flew out of his hand, falling a few distance from his position. Hitoshi noticed other items and junk near his body being slightly pushed away. "What the hell? What are you, a reverse magnet? Also..."
He then looked at the distance before making his comment. "It's not too strong. They didn't go too far."
"Yeah, it's not much but I at least know something now." Izuku put his hands in his pockets. He had a huge smile on his face as he look at the results of his quirk which did not go unnoticed by Hitoshi. "Well, you're right. You have a name for it?"
"Yeah. I'm not fully set on the name but seeing how it works so far." Izuku said as he leaned on a vehicle to catch his breath. "I'm naming this quirk...Repel."
Hitoshi raised an eyebrow. "Repel, huh? Not a bad name. I was thinking Shockwave."
"That could work too." Izuku made a note about this on his phone. Hitoshi then scratched his hair as he sat down on one of the cars. "So the first step is passed but what are we going to do from here? Did you check with the Support Department? We still need to find something to fight those robots. Your bat won't be enough."
"Yeah..." Izuku said, remembering that the department refused his requests. "They did not take my requests at all. Because we're not apart from the official hero course. We're going to have to find another way. The Support Department is not gonna help us."
"What happened with the Support Department?" Mei popped out of a pile of junk which frightened Izuku as he fell on the ground, Hitoshi asking a question. "What are you doing here?"
"I came here to parts shop..." She fell to the ground, surprising the two boys before her stomach grumbled loudly.
"You want food?" Izuku asked, seeing the girl nodding as she mumbled. "Mmmhmm."
"Let's go back to the cafe and continue the discussion after we eat some grub." Izuku decided to pick up the girl by her shoulder as Hitoshi picked up her bag, having a bit of a problem in lifting the bag. The trio went back to Tsuki Cafe, Izuku giving Mei a chocolate smoothie at her request, Mei scarfing the food hungrily before she let out a burp.
"Aww~ That hits the spot." She said as she melted into her seat. "That was divine."
"Glad that you liked it." Izuku bowed, gathering the plates before serving her and Hitoshi glasses of lemonade.
"Well, you were talking about gadgets or weapons, right?" Hitoshi asked to which Mei nodded as she took up her bag. "Yeah! I'm apart of the Support department and the great Mei Hatsume can build anything! Weapons, gadgets and items to help with your quirk or your abilities!"
"It's odd that I haven't seen you in the Support Workshop." Izuku said which made the pink-haired girl start sweating. "Well...uhh..."
"You failed the exam, didn't you? Am I on the money?" Hitoshi raised a brow, Izuku sitting down with a few books in his arms.
"They didn't appreciate my genius! Well, I'll show them how great I am so they won't misunderstand next time!" Mei folded her arms with a confident smile on her face, Izuku and Hitoshi sharing looks of confusion. "I am the infamous tech genius, the girl that will make it up in the world. Mei Hatsume!"
Silence came after a while before Izuku cleared his throat, Mei taking out various gadgets and putting them on the table. "And these are my wonderful, beautiful babies!"
The two males looked at the many tools littering the table, one that caught Izuku's attention is a wrist gauntlet that seems to be incomplete.
"I don't understand. How did you fail the exam?" Hitoshi said as he picked up a pair of metallic wristbands, putting them on and pressing a button on them which made him lose his balance. "Oh! That's heavy!"
That caught Izuku's attention as he lifted the weighted gauntlets and removed them from Hitoshi's wrists and put them on the table. Looking at the multiple tools and gadgets, Izuku's eyes widened as something clicked in his head. 'That's it!'
"I don't get it. Then how did you fail the exam? These are amazing inventions. Tell us what happened." Hitoshi said as he picked up a pair of metallic boots. Mei rubbed her head with an embarrassed smile as she answered. "My babies end up having issues."
"What issues?" Izuku asked this time.
"Nothing too big."
"Tell us the truth." Hitoshi commanded, Mei's body became still until she went back to normal, looking around the place which surprised him. "Hmmm. I guess I can't make people talk."
"Shinso, that's not cool." Izuku turned to Hitoshi.
"What happened?" Mei looked around, Izuku waving his hand before he pushed her drink closer to her. "It's ok. Someone didn't know boundaries."
He glared at Hitoshi who folded his arms. "Just tell us what happened. We failed the hero course exams so we're trying to find a way to pass the exam since our quirks aren't good with robots."
"Well, my inventions...it's best if I show you." She said, much to the confusion of the two males before Izuku spoke up. "If it's gonna cause any mess, let's go around the back."
Izuku then brought them to a place behind the cafe where there is a lot of space, the girl putting down the bag before she took out one of the inventions. Mei then used a metallic glue gun which started emitting sparks until it exploded unto her face, shocking the two males before Izuku ran to her out of her concern. "Ms. Hatsume, are you ok?"
"Yes, it's a...normal occurrence." Mei said as she coughed smoke, getting a whistle from Hitoshi as he saw the gadget now destroyed before he looked at the girl. "So what are you? Bombproof?"
Mei dusted herself as she looked at the gun that is smoking before she threw it in the bag. "I guess I need to work more on the hydraulics. I need to remember that."
Izuku raised a brow when he heard that. "Uhhh...why don't you make a note of this on your phone or something? Don't you have a blueprint?"
Smiling proudly, Mei put her hands on her hips before she tapped her head. "I have it all memorized in here."
"You sure? Don't you have blueprints on this?"
She tapped her head again with a proud hum, getting a scrutinizing look from Izuku. "Are you sure that you're going to remember?"
"Mmhmm." She nodded.
"Were you able to remember before?"
She started to sweat before she shakily nodded. "Mm...hmm..."
Izuku looked at her before he went into her bag which made the girl worried when she pulled a book from it. Dodging her swipes and catches for the book and moving it out of her reach, Izuku looked in her book to see a shakily done doodle of a gun which surprised both him and Hitoshi, the latter trying his best to hold in his laughter. Mei started to blush out of embarrassment as she looked at the ground. "I get it, ok? I'm not good at drawing."
"Hey, Ms. Hatsume. It's not that bad. It looks decent." Izuku tried to cheer her up, returning her book to her. "It's a nice drawing."
"So you suck at drawing? Big deal. I don't sing very well and Midoriya over here sucks at fighting games and he is surprisingly bad at Math."
"I get decent grades! Plus, the person who made Geometry and Algebra deserved a prison sentence. Plus, you beat me in Street Fighter and Smash one time! We have been getting ties since and you suck at English and Physics...and Mario Kart."
As the two boys bickered each other, Mei put down her book in her bag and was about to leave which did not go unnoticed by Izuku. "Wait, Ms. Hatsume!"
As they returned back to their table, she turned to see him running upstairs before he came back with a neon green notebook which he gave to her. Looking at the book and then looking at him, she raised an eyebrow before he gestured her to open the book, her eyes widened when she saw detailed drawing diagram of the heroes, their costumes, quirks and gadgets. 'He draws like a pro.'
Flipping through the pages, she saw more detailed sketches about the support items in the book. "These are crazy good. Why aren't you in the Support Department?"
Izuku looked down before he scratched his head. "Although I'm good at drawing, I'm not very good at making things. I can mend some things together but the most I can do is fix appliances."
Mei noticed the slight change in his expression and face before he pointed at the book.
"Why not draw a blueprint of everything to make it easier for you so that you don't lose track of what you're building? That way you can check if any ideas to upgrade it does not look stupid or impractical. Plus, you don't have to fail so much...or explode." Izuku suggested. "I can help you with drawing if you want."
"I don't know..." Mei looked at the book.
"I'll be happy to help you with testing your gadgets." Izuku suggested.
She twitched at that, scratching her head. "Can you? That's good."
"Alright then. How about we make a deal, Ms. Hatsume?" Izuku said in a serious tone with his hands in front of his mouth. Mei smiled as she did the same, the light from the sun making it that the goggles shine, hiding her eyes as she giggled. "Hmm, I'm listening."
"I can help you with drawing blueprints. In exchange, I would like for you to make some gadgets to help us with our little dilemma. I have some ideas on some blueprints. What do you say?"
"That's not enough for me. I'm just making equipment for you two. I think I would require more than just blueprints and you being a guinea pig."
"Alright then." Izuku got up and went into the kitchen, coming out with a small plate that has a slice of chocolate cake. Seeing the piece of cake, Mei's mouth started to drool as she tried to look away from the pastry. 'I don't need it.'
"I've been practicing on how to make a chocolate cake." The verdette smiled as he pushed the plate close to the pink-haired girl who backed away, trying to push herself in her seat. 'I don't...need it.'
"Don't you just smell that? Amazing, right?" Izuku grinned, watching the scent from the pastry wafting around the air before it went towards Mei's nose as she tried her hardest to keep herself vigilant. Hitoshi could only watch from the sidelines as he felt like he was watching a detective show as Izuku watched confidently as Mei wiped the drool from her mouth. "Isn't chocolate a nice flavor for a cake? It's nice. I can do this for you. Anytime you want. On the house."
Sweating, Mei took several deep breaths as she saw the pastry until she saw the verdette put a white frosting with sprinkles on it. The girl could feel something snapped before she scarfed down the food which made Izuku smile before she glared at him. "You drive a hard bargain. Damn it, I'm in! Deal!"
"This could make up for our lack of power." Izuku tapped his fingers on his chin while Hitoshi was a bit confused. "I'm not trying to get blown up if that means I get a weapon to fight some weapons."
"Don't worry, you won't blow up that bad." Mei said nonchalantly, Izuku nodded in agreement which made Hitoshi back up in his seat at the two as he thought. '...I'm surrounded by monsters...'
Mei slammed her hands on the table with a smile on her face. "So what are we dealing with, Abs?"
"You can just call me Midoriya. And weapons wise, I only have my bat. I have a spike casing for it though." Izuku lifted his bat with his spike casing which Mei took and put it into her bag. "Oh, nice, Freckles! I can turn the bat into something better! What about you, Eyeshadow?"
Hitoshi shrugged his shoulders as he put his hands on the table. "I'm good with ropes. Plus, Mr. Aizawa's been teaching me restraint techniques with the capturing weapon he has to help with the robots but I don't see what good it's gonna do if they come up close."
"I can create you a lasso then! Or some capturing tape! Maybe I could make it shoot snakes!" Mei said with enthusiasm, much to Hitoshi's worry. "Please don't."
Turning to Izuku's direction, he saw the verdette going through his book before he went to a page that he showed to them. "How about you make this for Shinso?"
"Gloves?" Hitoshi said as he saw a drawing of metallic gloves with spikes where the knuckles are. Izuku nodded while Mei checked the drawing. "Yeah. We're going to need some support to fight these guys. For now, you can get a pair of knuckledusters that can help you attack the robots."
"How did y-"
"I was thinking about how to get us through the exam but this is just one step. We gotta think of ways to move around and take them out quickly." The verdette explained with his fingers on his chin. "We might have to ask for more support items. Also, for the drawing, I'll help you but it's obvious that you won't get better at it in two months but I can sketch up a support item that you want to make."
"Oh! Really?! Then the Hover Soles!" Mei sparkled, Izuku nodded before she handed the boots to him along with a doodle she made of the boots. 'It's honestly surprising that she was able to get that out of the drawing.'
"I'll get a drawing done quick on these. Probably by tomorrow." Izuku said as he wrapped the paper in his book and took the boots.
"Alrighty, I'll see what I can do with this!" Mei said, Izuku tearing the pages and giving them to her. As the day ended and Mei and Hitoshi left, Izuku went to his room before he took a deep breath and closed his eyes as he used his quirk, taking up a pencil that floated in his hand. After a while, the pencil fell back into his hand, the verdette looked at the calendar.
"It's a little over two months left."
It was another day at UA, the students of the remedial course, Hitoshi was reading a comic book before he noticed Izuku entering the class.
"Sup, Midoriy-damn!" He paused, noticing the bags under Izuku's eyes as he waved at him with a smile. "Hey, Shinso..."
"Didn't have a proper sleep last night?"
"No. Sorry, I was kinda pulling an all-nighter with my quirk and the drawing." Izuku said as he groggily made his way to the classroom slamming his head on the desk. "Had to try activating it without your quirk without your commands."
"Dude...you have been pushing yourself these past few days. Didn't you remember what Mr. Aizawa said? You can't be overworking yourself. You have a job, you're doing training and now you're teaching Hatsume along with me."
"We can't afford to take any breaks. We don't have time to waste." Izuku said, his expression serious. "We can't afford to fail. Not again."
"Hey, Midoriya!" The two boys turned to see Denki and Kyoka coming to them, the latter tapping her earphone jacks together.
'Oh, it's Kaminari and Jiro.' Izuku thought before he answered. "Hey, what's up?"
"Hey, I see that you have top grades in the written classes in the Entrance exam and in class." Denki said, Izuku nodded shyly. The blonde rubbed his neck before he clapped his hands and bowed. "Can you tutor us please? Are you doing any study sessions by any chance? I'm smart but I'm nowhere near the scoring grade."
Izuku was surprised by this, looking around to see nothing out of the ordinary before he pointed at himself. "You mean me?"
"Huh? Yeah, dude! You're like super smart! Jiro and I need the help." Denki said, Kyoka nodding. "Please, Midoriya."
"Oooh! Can I join?" Toru waved her hand excitedly. Izuku looked at their pleading faces before he caved in and let out a sigh as he took out his phone. "Umm...ok. I'll see what I can do."
They all celebrated until they heard the door open, the students turned to the door to see their teachers walk into the room.
"Today, we will be doing weapons training again. Get ready in 15 minutes." Shouta stated at the class who were surprised by this, Touma taking out his gun. "From the results shown so far with your progress, I can say confidently that less than half of you will pass the exam and that's not good."
The students were surprised by this before Touma stepped forward. "Because of this, I need to amp up your training if I want you all to go Plus Ultra. The hero course students are already ahead of you and I don't need you all lagging back. Now get ready."
As he made the announcement, everyone changed their clothes and went to Gym Omega. After they did so, Shouta split the students into two groups based on their quirks and abilities, some of the students being excited.
"I wonder what he's going to have us do." Hitoshi nudged Izuku who was keenly watching the class, seeing their teachers taking out two boxes of weapons. Putting down the boxes, the students gathered around, Shouta giving his students physical-based items while Touma provided his students with makeshift guns and ammunition. Shouta stopped before he decided to inform the students. "Also, I would like to let you all know. If you're comfortable with a weapon or item, you can use them as rentals for the practical exam."
"From what it looks, it's gonna be basic weapons training for now, it's better than nothing but we're gonna still need those weapons." Izuku thought aloud before he made notes in his notebook, much to his classmates' surprise. 'Where did he get the notebook?'
"Midoriya." Shouta said as he threw him a wooden staff which confused the teen. "Why a staff and not a bat?"
'His skills with his bat is impressive. And I believe that he can channel those skills with a staff.' Shouta said as he watched Izuku trying to spin the staff on his arm before he failed. "Practice with the staff for now. In the exam, you used a pole as a javelin but you need to make use of it until you can dispose of it. Get a feel of the weapon."
"Uhh...ok." The verdette said as he went to his side of the place and practice with the staff. He then watched as Denki was able to shoot lightning blasts, the taser able to control the electricity to make it hit one target. He then noticed Kyoka who was using a sword that she channeled her earjacks through, creating a vibration sword that sliced through a boulder like it was a piece of butter. Giving the others their own weapons, Shouta then went to Hitoshi who was practicing with his scarf, the teen able to successfully wrap it around a rock.
"Shinso! Awase! You will be training with me." The two nodded before Shouta noticed his physique which made him smile. 'He's bulked up. Pairing him with Midoriya was the right thing to do.'
"Brace yourself for this training will not be easy." Shouta said with a glare as they started their training. Meanwhile Izuku was using the staff, practicing against a dummy for a while until he lost his balance and fell on his back. "Crap!"
He then went against the dummy again, keeping his mind focus as he smacked the mannequin aside. His body glowed which he noticed before he took a deep breath and tried to manifest the power through her left arm, the teen noticed the scar getting brighter before he accidentally released the energy which some dust fly away from him. When he used his quirk, it surprised everyone including the two teachers as Touma approached the teen. "Midoriya, did you use your quirk? You know what your quirk can do?"
"Uhh. Yes, it's a quirk that basically repels everything around me. It's not strong so it comes out like a light breeze." Izuku explained as he used the staff to keep him from falling. "I know, it's not exactly useful but I need to train on it."
Touma noticed the boy manifesting the glow in one arm before it spread through his body which made him have an idea. "Continue training on your quirk. This time, concentrate your quirk on your arm."
Izuku looked at the teacher before he did as told as his arm glowed intensely. The man then gave Izuku a rubber ball before he pointed at the dummy. "Alright, try to unleash the quirk from your arm."
The student did as told, outstretching his hand towards the punching bag before releasing his quirk which made the ball fly a few meters from him. Seeing the result, Touma put his hand on his chin before he looked at Izuku, seeing his completely limp. "Ok, it is a bit stronger than how it was when it was released from your body but it's still weak. We will need to train this some more. Let's go, Midoriya! Kaminari, you will be with him as well!"
"Yes sir!" They both said as he made them continue with the shooting practice.
"Hmm." Izuku said in deep thought.
Izuku was at the Tsuki Cafe with Hitoshi and Mei, the latter enjoying a slice of chocolate cake. He was teaching Hatsume how to draw and tutoring Hitoshi "So the rest of the guys should be joining us soon, right?"
"Yeah. Kaminari has a part time job today so he and Jiro will be joining us later. Toru is on her way here too." Izuku answered as he was reading his notebook which Hitoshi noticed. "Do you have notes on their quirks as well?"
"I mean...yeah. It could help them with their training."
"You should be more worried about yourself. Have you gotten an answer to your quirk?"
"Still thinking. I thought that checking on their quirks would help me find an answer on making mine a little useful." Izuku thought as he looked through his notebooks that he made on his observations with quirks. "But I'm drawing a blank. It would be good to use my power to at least float or get a strength boost like some of the heroes but...I dunno..."
"Maybe you need a binding cloth. How's the bat, Hatsume?" Hitoshi wondered, the girl knocked out of her concentration. "Still in progress. I have an idea on the bat. Trust me, you'll love it, Freckles."
"Hm. Welp, you gotta wait." Hitoshi went back to his studies, Mei finished a drawing that made her groan when she saw how bad it looked before she turned to Izuku. "Your quirk causes you to repel anything around you, right?"
"Yeah." Izuku answered without lifting his eyes from his notebook.
"Why not have a gear that can help you with focusing that energy into one point? Like a charging gun?" Mei suggested which made Izuku's eyes open widely as he looked at the girl. "You might be unto something, Hatsume. Mr. Hikigane is training on that but it's not going anywhere so far. So how is this different?"
"No, that's not what I mean. Let me show you." She took one of Izuku's drawings and scribbled some things unto it before she showed it to them, the two seeing small scribbles done to a drawing of a gun that Izuku made for the Pro Heroes Water Hose. "Like that."
"Wait! This could work! So it's like a water gun?" Izuku said, Hitoshi raised a brow. "That's water. How's that gonna help with Midoriya's quirk?"
"Hey, Midoriya!" They turn to see Toru entering the cafe and dashing to them. Afterwards, Denki and Kyoka joined with them as Naomi provided them with some snacks as they started. The whole group then had a study session, Naomi looking from the kitchen to see Izuku having a genuine smile on his face which made the woman glad as she took a few pictures. After a few hours of studying and tutoring, the group left and said their goodbyes before leaving Izuku who cleaned the place, a small smile on his face.
"Someone looks happy." Naomi came out from the kitchen with a smile on her face.
"Well, it was a little fun. To be asked for help in something I can do." Izuku said while scratching his head. "It's a weird experience though."
"But it's great that you're enjoying yourself, Izu. And that's the best thing: that you're doing something that you like." Naomi said with a proud smile on her face. Izuku nodded. He was happy for this. It is the first time that he has experienced someone asking him for help without having to be forced, exploited or brutally beaten for it to be done. He still wondered if they are his friends or not but he pushed back those thoughts in the back of his head as he continued cleaning the cafe.
Things like this continued for a month, Izuku and Hitoshi training with each other along with their quirks, the study sessions they have with Denki and the others while they were having their remedial classes. It then came to the last weekend of the third month, the evening sky hovered over the city of Kawasaki as both Izuku and Hitoshi training in the abandoned junkyard.
"I think I've gotten the hang of this." Hitoshi said as he threw and wrapped his binding cloth around an empty can before he pulled it towards him, catching the can in his hand. Meanwhile, Izuku was doing pull-ups on a rusty monkey bar connected to two towers of vehicles, taking steady breaths.
"Hey, guys!" Mei appeared out of nowhere, surprising the two teenagers as Izuku fell down on his head. "Ow..."
Mei put down her bag before she took out a pair of black and yellow, metallic fingerless gauntlets from it, a smile on her face as she presented them.
"What are those?" Hitoshi asked as he eyed the items, about to touch them but Mei swatted his hand away. "No touchie! This is my baby! "This is my latest creation! The Shockwave Gauntlets!"
"Ouch!" The purple-haired teen said to the mechanic in training, Izuku looking at the item with a curious expression. "What is it for?"
"Why don't you try them?" Mei said as she handed the gauntlets to Izuku who looked at the items before he noticed they look a lot like the gun that he drew. Izuku looked at the gauntlets, seeing a green crystal-like receptor in the palm of the glove before he noticed a yellow wrist section that reached up to his wristbands. He then noticed metal plates on the knuckle section of the glove. Checking out the items, he messed with them before Mei jumped in his face and pressed a button on the glove which caused it to rev with power. "See that? It can even double as a punching glove as well. It's not like Eyeshadow's items. Which reminds me."
She took out a pair of dark purple, metallic gloves that she handed to Hitoshi who smiled as he put them on. "Cool aesthetic. Is that an eye of the back of the hand?"
"Yeah! Pretty cool, right? Press on the eye." Mei said excitedly. The purple-haired teen touched the eye which made spikes come out of the knuckle section of his gloves which made him smile. "Awesome! Now this is what I call improvement. And I haven't exploded."
"Ok but I don't know what these are for." Izuku said as he inspected his own, seeing the crystal in his palm starting to light up as Mei ran up to him. "What should I do?"
"Focus your quirk on your arms and these gloves should be able to collect the force and release it from the point in the center of your palms." Mei instructed the verdette. Izuku nodded before he outstretched his arms and channeled his quirk through them. "Yeah, just like that!"
The gem in the center of the palm of his palms started to glow slowly for a while.
"Now release it!" Izuku did as told, a blast of wind being released from his gloves that managed to push away some dust and empty cans.
"What the hell? Was that a gust of wind?" The purple-haired teen commented, Mei putting her hands on her hips with a proud smile. "Hmm I thought it would be stronger. If you need some adjustments, let me know."
"No problem. This could work." Izuku fell a slight headache before his arms went limp. "Well, minor setback but it's better than nothing."
"I guess it saps more energy than I thought." Mei said as she walked over to Izuku's body and tapped his body. "You ok, Midoriya?
Hitoshi was training with his gadgets, catching an object with his scarf before pulling it and punching it which managed to break it in two. "Awesome! Thanks, Hatsume!"
"It's all in a day's work for Mei Hatsume! Glad to see you like them, Eyeshadow!" Mei lifted a thumbs-up which made Hitoshi's eye twitch. "It's Shinso. How do you remember Midoriya's name and not mine?"
"He feeds me food and chocolate." Mei said bluntly as she ate a box of chocolate cookies. "I like food and chocolate."
'She's like a dog.' Hitoshi thought with a poker face. Izuku tried to use his quirk again but it failed as he slumped to the ground.
"Dude, you need to take a rest. Since we have these, we're gonna show everyone who's bottom of the class." Hitoshi said with an evil grin, getting a laugh from both Izuku and Mei as the latter took out a metal detector and searched for scraps.
'With this, we can do it!' Izuku thought as he looked at the sky. 'We can definitely pass the exam.'
Izuku's Quirk: Shockwave
Izuku can release a repelling force from his body, the quirk however takes up a lot of energy from him which can leave him incapacitated and even make him black out and faint. It also seems to require a lot of focus to activate as well.
You all have no idea how anxious I was to show this quirk. Yeah, it's weird that with Izuku, One For All has this glowing effect unlike for All Might so yeah. I put it as apart of his quirk. Also, everyone is training hard. I hope you guys like the story so far and keep safe. Enigma out!
