The Inheritance Contract
AN: So glad to see the positive response to the Prologue! So to get a reference of age and looks, think of Jason in the early 2000's the first time SB came back to the show. I'm aging Liz up a couple of years so she and Jason are closer in age, so she will be about 22 or 23 while Jason is about 26. Enjoy the next chapter! Leave those reviews!
Forgot this on the first post- I don't own GH or any of its characters!
Chapter 1
Present Day
Edward Quartermaine was dead. He had died peacefully in his sleep three days before. Between the huge tribute in the paper and the multiple tributes on the news, you would think he had been some kind of celebrity. Today had been his funeral, and just about everyone in Port Charles had attended . Everyone save one..
His grandson, Jason, shook his head as yet another tribute to the old man played across the television. Jason scoffed as he heard the accolades being said about the old man. All he ever was to Jason was a huge headache.
From the time that he was young, Edward had been pushing him to intern at ELQ, with the hopes that one day he would possibly even consider taking over the reins. When Jason had shown an interest in medicine instead, Edward had begrudgingly accepted that he would probably have to have AJ as his protege. Once the accident happened and Jason's life was forever changed, Edward had pushed even harder to get Jason back into the fold. The harder he pushed though, the harder Jason fought back. The day that Jason turned his back on the bulk of his family, Edward swore that he would be disowned. Fortunately, Lila, his grandmother, talked the old man out of his plans. Jason still had his trust fund, even though he never touched a dime of it.
Now that the old man had kicked the bucket, Jason figured he could finally access his trust and start building his business bigger. He hadn't wanted to touch any of it while Edward was alive because he didn't want him nosing in his business.
He already figured that the old goat hadn't left him any additional money. While Jason no longer truly associated with his family, he wasn't adverse to getting some free money out of the deal. Maybe with some of his trust, he could ever find a decent apartment. He had a small living space above his shop, but could definitely get on board with something bigger.
His thoughts were cut off as his cell phone rang. Glancing at the caller ID, he smiled when he saw his sister's name on the screen. He always enjoyed talking to Emily.
"Hi, sis," Jason said by way of a greeting.
"Grandmother wants to know if you planned to come to the mansion today?" She said as soon as she heard his voice. He could hear conversations going on before the sounds drifted away and he heard her close a door.
Jason sighed, and ran his hand through his hair. Going to the mansion was the very last thing Jason wanted to do. However, he knew his grandmother would be upset already and didn't really want to hurt her by not going.
"I could stop over later after the crowd thins out. I really don't want to deal with everyone, but I do want to see how grandmother is."
Emily sighed. "She's being so strong, but I know that a visit from you would help her immensely. She was sad that you didn't come to the funeral."
Jason scoffed. He had seen some of the video footage and could honestly say he was glad he skipped that circus. Everyone knew he was the proverbial black sheep, so it was no surprise to his family that he didn't show.
"Dad and Aunt Tracy are doing well under the circumstances. It's so strange here without grandfather. I keep thinking he's going to pop up out of the corner and yell, "Boo!"
Jason chuckled at that. "Don't say that. He'd probably haunt you for the rest of your life out of spite."
"The reading of his will is going to be next week. Did you get the letter?"
"Uh… hang on.." Jason said as he started shuffling through his mail. He was surprised when he found an official looking envelope with his name on it. Ripping it open, he saw the invitation to the reading of Edward Quartermaine's will, which would take place at the mansion. "Uh..yeah, I have it right here. I'm surprised I got an invitation."
"Oh, good. I do know that grandfather revised his will a couple years ago. And why wouldn't you get one? No matter how you feel, you are still family. Of course you would be included."
"Forget what I said about him haunting you. He'll probably end up haunting me. I'm almost afraid to see what he could possibly have left for me."
"Probably shares in ELQ. I think that grandmother will get the bulk of the estate, and Dad and Aunt Tracy will split down the middle. The grandkids will get what's left over, I'm sure."
Jason shook his head. "Tell grandmother I'll be by to see her later tonight. Don't let the rest of the family know though. I don't want to deal with all the drama and stress the rest of them will throw at me."
"All right Jase. I'll tell her. Love you big bro," Emily told him.
"Love you too," Jason said before ending the call. He stared at the invitation in his hand. "What are you up to, old man?" Jason wondered aloud.
