A/N: The chapter is another case of two different chapters being slapped together because my organization when it came to this fic was a freakin disaster 💀

But anyways, hope you enjoy (especially the latter portion since I also reworked it a bit 😗)

ALSO !IMPORTANT!: There is a high probability I will be making changes to an earlier arc that will require some rereading. Nothing that requires rereading the whole entire fic, but still somewhat important. I'm so sorry I'm such a dang mess when it comes to this fic, constantly going back and making changes or edits, but I came up with a new character like a week ago and I got so invested in them I would've cried if I didn't include them SOMEWHERE TvT

Due to this, there probably won't be any new updates for a while. Partially to draw the art and also to make some minor changes to the last arc of this fic. By the time the next chapter's been posted, these changes will have been implemented and I'll leave an author's note about it. Keep an eye out, though if you've been to my Instagram you might know already 👀

Todoroki and Aoyama stared at Hitomi in shock, their eyes looking as if they were practically bulging out of their sockets. (At least, in Aoyama's case. Todoroki didn't really emote like that.)

Hitomi's hands flew to her mouth as she crouched to the ground, her face turning red at the realization her secret was now out.

Fuck.

She was mortified, mortified that her mouth had spilled what she'd been trying so desperately to hide, and now she couldn't just take it back.

This was the absolute worst.

She finally had the courage to look at the two boys, only to find they were still staring at her. Hitomi got up from the ground in a huff. "L-Like I said… I don't like Kirishima like that." She brushed past them to continue down the path, the others trailing after her.

"But… you're in love with Bakugou?" Aoyama asked.

Hitomi bit her lip at his words. "It's not… love," she muttered. "It's just… um… infatuation."

Infatuation, my ass.

Hitomi shook her head at her own thoughts, stopping in the middle of the path. "My feelings… they aren't as serious as love," she said slowly, turning to face them. She laughed nervously, an unsure smile on my face. "I mean, it's Bakugou, of all people…! They'll… go away. But, until then…" Her expression turned serious as she grabbed them both by their arms, her eyes pleading.

"Until this goes away, you have to promise me you won't say anything about it to anyone."

"It'll go away?" Todoroki questioned, raising a brow. "Is that really how it works…?"

"Do you promise you won't say anything?" Hitomi pressed, ignoring his question.

She wasn't necessarily sure that was how it worked, either.

Aoyama blinked. "But you-"

"Do you promise?"

Todoroki shrugged. "Sure," he replied. "It's not really my business to talk about, anyway."

"Good." Hitomi turned to Aoyama, her hand on Todoroki moving to hold the blonde by both of his shoulders. "Aoyama, do you promise you won't say anything? Please…?"

Aoyama stared at her before he broke into a grin, striking another flamboyant pose. "Of course, mon amie! You can count on me to keep a secret!"

Hitomi breathed out a sigh of relief, and the group finally continued their trek down the trail.

She was lucky that the groups were spread out enough that no one else would have heard her declaration, and even luckier Todoroki and Aoyama happened to be people willing to keep her secret.

After they'd finished their test of courage, some of the class had decided to hang out for a little longer in the common area, students slowly filtering out as it grew later into the night.

Hitomi sat at the kitchen table, talking with Jirou and the other girls (minus Mina) about what they could do tomorrow. However, Hitomi didn't miss the way the Bakusquad was huddled together, discussing something as Bakugou repeatedly tried to leave their conversation.

After a while, Nix announced that it was time to turn in for the night, ushering the class to their respective rooms. While their chaperone walked up the stairs to her own room, Jirou and the others waved Hitomi a good night as she got up from the table. As she walked out of the dining room and into the living room, she was stopped by a voice.

"Hey, Hitomi…" Kirishima called after her.

"Hm?" She paused, turning to face him and realizing their entire friend group was looking at her with worry.

"Can we talk?"

She froze at his somber tone. This sounded serious. Maybe it had to do with his work study…?

"Oh… sure, what's up?"

Hitomi waited to hear what her friend had to say, and with her and the group being the only ones left in the room the silence became more apparent, almost too much to ignore.

Her friends looked between each other before they all bent down to bow, Kirishima and Kaminari pushing Bakugou's head down as well.

"We're sorry."

"Hey, watch it!" Bakugou growled.

Hitomi blinked, confused. This wasn't about her friend's work study, after all. "You're sorry…? Sorry for what?"

They straightened themselves, Bakugou shoving Kaminari and Kirishima's hands away as he scowled at them.

"We… we're sorry if we did anything to make you mad at us!" Kirishima explained.

"...Huh?"

"It's just…"

"We know we can be pretty rowdy sometimes," Sero continued for the redhead, "and loud, and do some dumb stuff…"

"So if we did anything to make you upset, or offended," Mina picked up, "we're really sorry!"

"We really care about you!" Kaminari exclaimed. "But… we understand if you don't want to hang out with us anymore."

Hitomi stared at all of them in disbelief.

"...What are you all talking about?"

Bakugou scoffed, turning to the group. "See, I told you nothing was wrong. Should've never listened to that dimwit…"

Kirishima's eyebrows furrowed as he looked at Hitomi. "You mean, you're not upset with us…?"

Hitomi shook her head. "No! Why… why would you think that?"

"Well, it's just- Mineta said you've been avoiding us because you didn't want to hang out with us anymore…"

Hitomi tensed, wearing a strained smile.

Oh.

So that's what this was about.

Well, fuck.

Hitomi could feel panic creeping up her shoulders. If the grape piss baby had somehow noticed the distance she'd been putting between herself and Bakugou, who's to say Bakugou wouldn't eventually piece it together as well?!

Shit.

Hitomi placed a hand on Kirishima's shoulder in an effort to placate her friend's worry.

"Well, first of all, don't believe anything that guy says."

Kirishima looked like he didn't believe her, causing Hitomi to continue.

"You guys haven't done anything wrong, really. I have no reason to be upset with you. I've just… been preoccupied, y'know? New semester and everything." She smiled at him, hoping to throw him off what she'd been doing for the past two weeks. "Why, have you been missing me lately?" she teased.

"In all honesty, yeah," Kirishima replied, a small smile forming on his face. "So, you haven't been avoiding us?"

"Of course not!" Hitomi reassured him.

It was the truth, technically. She really wasn't avoiding them, but rather avoiding one particular person. A person who just so happened to associate himself with the same friend group.

Kirishima engulfed her in a hug, Hitomi returning it as the rest of the group joined in.

"Thank goodness…"

"You really had me worried there, Hitomi!" Kaminari wailed, pretending to cry.

"I guess this just goes to show we should never listen to Mineta, huh?" Sero laughed.

"Right!" Mina giggled. "Hey, Bakugou," she said, outstretching her arm as an invitation. "Come join us!"

"Fuck no."

Right as he was turning to leave, Sero used his tape, wrapping it around the blonde and dragging him into their group hug.

"HEY!"

Hitomi could feel more panic coming. As much as she was enjoying this hug, Bakugou being a part of it was going to make her flustered.

And the possibility of two people in her class finding out about her crush shooting to seven, her crush included, was not going to happen. Not on her life.

She ducked out of the hug right as Bakugou was pulled in, thanking her short height for the first time in a while.

"Well!" she exclaimed, clapping her hands together. "It's getting late, and I just remembered I promised Nari I'd call her tonight. I'll see you tomorrow!"

"Aww…" Mina sighed, their group breaking the hug.

The group exchanged "good nights" with Hitomi before she dashed to the hallway, making a beeline for her room at the end.

As Bakugou got himself out of Sero's tape, he didn't miss the way Hitomi seemed to avoid looking directly at him.

"Come on, pick up, pick uuup…"

Hitomi paced around (ghhhhgh) her and Bakugou's shared room, listening to the dial tone on her phone. She knew the Philippines was an hour behind Japan, meaning it was around 11 p.m. over there, but she really needed to talk to Nari before Bakugou came back.

She flopped onto her (the thought of calling it their bed made her want to combust) bed, groaning as the phone kept ringing. Right as she was about to hang up, Nari's face showed up on her screen.

"Hey, Hitomi!" the blonde chirped. "How's the Philippines?"

"Nari, I am freaking out."

"What's wrong? Is the trip not going well?"

Hitomi shook her head, clutching a pillow as she blushed. "It's not that… It's-"

Her mouth snapped shut at the sound of the door opening, her head turning abruptly to see Bakugou entering the room.

"Who's that?" Nari's voice sounded from her phone.

"Uh-" Hitomi fumbled, muting the volume as she hopped off the bed.

"Sorry…" she told Bakugou, holding her phone close to her. "You're going to bed, right? I'll go somewhere else." She looked down, keeping her eyes trained on the floor as she rushed out of the room before Bakugou could even say a word.

Hitomi ran down the hallway, trying to keep the sound of her steps light as she made her way past the living room to the patio that gave her a view of the beach. She was filled with relief entering the quiet area, sinking into a chair as she sighed. Her attention turned back to her phone, turning the volume up.

"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!"

Nari's voice echoed through the air, making Hitomi flail as she turned it down a bit.

"Shh!" Hitomi whispered, even though no one else was around. "Don't be so loud…!"

"I'm sorry, but I would really like some context for what just happened if you don't mind," Nari glowered at her. "Just what exactly were you doing in Bakugou's room?!"

"How'd you know that?!" Hitomi asked, flustered. "He- He didn't even say anything!"

"Hitomi, I have eyes. I could see him behind you. And I heard you, too. 'You're going to bed, right?'" she quoted her. "I'd like my explanation, please."

Hitomi dropped her head onto the table, groaning as she tried to calm her flustered heartbeat.

This was why she called, didn't she?

And yet it still made her feel embarrassed.

"See, the thing is… Remember how I said I was freaking out?"

Nari nodded.

"Uhm, that's because, well…" Hitomi looked away, her face flushing. "...Me and Bakugou are sharing a room."

"Holy crap," Nari muttered, almost under her breath. "Wait- but I thought you were trying to avoid him…" Her eyes suddenly widened in disbelief. "Did he actually find out about how you feel? Are you guys together?! Don't tell me you're sharing because-"

"NO!" Hitomi yelled, quickly covering her mouth from how loud she was.

Nari only stared back at her with an eyebrow raised, an unamused expression on her face.

"It's not- We're not together!" Hitomi stuttered. "We wouldn't- I couldn't- I can't believe you'd even think we'd do something like- like that!" Her face was a bright crimson, and once again she was relieved that she was alone on the balcony, far away from the rest of the class. She hid her face in her arms, trying to calm herself from her embarrassment. "...He would never even like me that way, anyway."

"Hey, you're not allowed to say that about my best friend!"

Hitomi peeked at her phone through her arms, seeing Nari had an irritated expression on her face.

"You know I'm right," the bluenette replied. "What would he even like about me?"

Nari let out a chuckle at that. "Girl, there are so many things I could list off. You're pretty, smart, not to mention you're so badass!"

"...That seems really basic and superficial," Hitomi retorted, looking away. "You could say that about anyone."

"Hmm, well, how about this: you're really kind and caring, you're super enthusiastic when you're talking about science, showing me all these cool experiments, and this kind of already goes with the 'pretty' thing, but your eyes are like, some of the prettiest I've ever seen. They're so shiny like the moon!"

Hitomi let out a small laugh. "I remember you said that when we were little. You're pretty great, yourself."

Nari grinned at her. "I'm going to keep showering you with praise until you learn to love yourself more."

"Doubtful…" Hitomi smiled softly, "but thanks."

"So?" Nari asked, leaning her cheek against her hand. "Are you going to tell me about why you're sleeping with Bakugou?" She wore a sly smile, awaiting Hitomi's answer.

"Ugh, don't remind me," Hitomi groaned. "And please don't say it like that…"

Nari feigned innocence. "Like what?"

"You know," Hitomi griped, her face turning red again. "Don't make me say it out loud."

"Sorry, sorry," Nari giggled. "I can't help it. So, why are you sharing a room with him?"

"It was just an honest mistake," Hitomi muttered, running a hand through her hair. "Yaomomo meant to put me in a room by myself, but I think she meant to do that for Bakugou too and we just ended up getting placed in the same room. So… there's nothing going on."

"Aww, how lame," Nari sighed. "And just when I thought it was getting good, too…"

"My life is not a shoujo anime, Nari!"

"It might as well be. I hate to break it to you, Hitomi, but up until now, your love life's been, like, nonexistent. It was about time something good happened. And the fact it happens to be that blasty boy makes things interesting."

"I'm glad you find this entertaining at the hands of my suffering," Hitomi snarked, pouting. "Sharing a bed makes me want to die."

"Wait one fucking minute."

Hitomi was taken aback at Nari's words. Although Nari swore like any other average teenager, Hitomi was the more likely of the two to say "fuck", so hearing it from Nari's mouth threw her off.

Hitomi replayed in her head what she'd just told Nari, slapping a hand over her mouth in embarrassment.

"You mean you're actually sharing a bed with him?! Not, like, having one sleep on the floor?!" Nari exclaimed.

"Uh- um- well, yeah…" Hitomi spluttered. She was blushing way too much today.

"Holy shit. Hitomi, YOU'RE SHARING A BED WITH HIM!"

"Shut up!" Hitomi nearly shouted, her fingers tightening around her phone. "I know that! Don't be so loud!"

"I'm sorry, it's just, my sweet, shy, slightly socially anxious Hitomi is sharing a bed with the boy she likes. Do you realize how crazy that is?!"

"It's not a big deal! There's no deeper meaning behind it or anything!"

"How am I supposed to believe that?! You got the guy who was chained to the first-place podium to share a bed with you!"

"There's nothing going on!" Hitomi sputtered. "We were both too stubborn to let the other sleep on the floor, and we kept arguing about it before we decided to share! That's all!"

"You're such a buzzkill," Nari pouted. She then yawned, rubbing her eyes. "It's late. I better head to bed."

Hitomi finally relaxed, saved from Nari's interrogation for the night. "…I guess I should too. G'night."

"Good night, my sly Hitomi."

"Shut-!" Nari then hung up the phone, Hitomi's exclamation left on the tip of her tongue. The bluenette flopped her head onto the tabletop, feeling the crisp nightly air brushing against her warm cheeks.

Waaagh…

This whole crush thing was getting really embarrassing. How was Uraraka able to deal with all this?

Hitomi stood in front of the door of her and Bakugou's shared bedroom, tracing her fingers along one of her cheeks. She'd left the balcony a few minutes after her call with Nari had ended, now trying to psyche herself up for facing Bakugou again.

With a deep breath, Hitomi swung the door open, the soft light of the lamp on her bedside table giving the room a warm glow. She closed the door behind her right as the bathroom door opened, Bakugou stepping out with a towel on his head. Hitomi was relieved to see he was fully clothed in his nightwear, but averted her eyes to the floor nonetheless.

Bakugou snorted at her reaction. "Relax, Moon Face. I'm not fucking naked like yesterday."

Hitomi blushed, her eyes shifting back and forth between him and the floor. "How can you say that like it's nothing…?" she whispered under her breath, too quiet for Bakugou to hear.

Bakugou raised a brow at her apparent silence, pointing his thumb back at the bathroom. "Bath's free. Dunno if that's something you normally do in your family, but I left the water there for you anyways."

Hitomi flinched. "B-Bath?!"

"What, you gonna sleep in those clothes you spent the day in?"

Hitomi shook her head rapidly with a gulp. "No, no, of course not…"

"Then don't be too loud in there," Bakugou huffed, walking over to his side of the bed. He pulled the towel off, hanging it on the drying rack by the closet before climbing under the sheets. He folded his hands behind his head, closing his eyes. "I'm going to sleep."

Hitomi stared at him for a few moments before she crept to the dresser, pulling open the bottom drawer and grabbing her change of clothes for the night. She hugged her sleepwear to her chest as she made her way to the bathroom, locking the door behind her. Hitomi placed them on the counter with a sigh, staring at the bathtub that was filled with hot water. She could see the steam that was rising up from the surface.

Hitomi bit her lip, her face reddening at the thought of bathing in there.

"Goddammit…!" she whispered, crouching down to her knees as her hand gripped the counter's edge to prevent her from falling over completely. "Bakugou, you stupid, stupid, idiot! Did you even think about the implications of us using the same bath water at all...?!"

It felt too intimate to her. Domestic. Like a couple that had just moved in together. She slapped her forehead repeatedly, in a futile attempt to dispel the embarrassment she was feeling. Eventually, Hitomi lowered her hand with a small sigh, staring blankly at the bathroom's tile flooring.

I'm probably the only one who's even thinking about that stuff at all.

Hitomi shook her head, getting up from the floor. She slapped her cheeks, trying to focus. If Bakugou doesn't care about it, I won't either…!

She walked to the edge of the bathtub, staring down at it with determined eyes. It's not a big deal! Not at all…!

She was just taking a bath. Like Bakugou had done. It was a cultural thing for them after all. It was normal. She was just going to ease the stresses from the day. That's all. Relax for a bit before she went to bed.

...In the same bathtub. Using the same water. That Bakugou had used.

Hitomi had to steady herself against the wall so she wouldn't fall over.

Pull yourself together Hitomi, Jesus Christ…!

Her eyes moved to the bathtub faucet.

I could always just replace the water… It'd be a waste, but… I mean, Yaomomo's rich, so it's not like it'd affect her much anyways…

Hitomi glanced over her shoulder back at the door, biting her lip.

"Would that make noise, though…?" she mumbled.

Bakugou had said he was going to go to sleep, after all. All that was separating them was a door.

Hitomi let out a sharp exhale, turning back to the bathtub.

Ahh… fuck it.

She pulled off her hair tie, undoing the bun she normally kept her hair in and tying it up so it was higher away from her shoulders. After shedding her day clothes and rinsing off (she took extra care to make sure the shower head was on a quiet setting), she hurried to climb in, chanting over and over in her head, It's not weird at all, it's not weird at all, it's not weird at all-

In her haste, her foot slipped, making her fall straight into the tub with a splash. Hitomi let out a loud yelp in pain, an ache in her lower back forming from the impact against the cut she'd gotten yesterday.

She pushed herself up with a gasp, cradling her shoulder and back with a grimace. "Ow ow ow…"

"Oi!"

Hitomi flinched, looking up from the water.

Bakugou's voice was muffled from the other side of the door. "What the fuck was that?!" he yelled. "Did you fall over or something?"

Hitomi hurried to sit up properly, using the edge of the tub as leverage to pull herself up. "Don't come in, don't come in!" she cried, her face as red as a tomato. "I'm- I'm fine! Don't worry about it…!"

There was a few seconds of silence. "Well like I said, don't be too loud!" Bakugou called back. "I told you I'm trying to fucking sleep!"

"I know, I know! I'll be quiet! Sorry…!"

She got nothing back in response, leading to her cradling her face in her hands with a squeal.

God. Fucking. Dammit!

That really just happened!

Hitomi knocked herself on the head over and over, letting out insult after insult at herself.

"Stupid! Idiot! Klutz! Why did my foot have to slip?!"

After a good minute or so of berating herself, she lowered her hand, letting it fall back into the water. Hitomi leaned back, dropping her head onto the edge of the tub with a groan. "I can't believe this… Why did I have to end up stuck with Bakugou, of all people…?" she muttered.

In retrospect, she only had herself and her lack of brain cells to blame.

And now she was using the bath after him. Hitomi's eyes squeezed shut, her eyebrows furrowing as a slight blush colored her cheeks.

Just… try not to think about it.

She took a deep breath, trying to relax. The warm water did feel nice after all. Hitomi opened her eyes with a small exhale, staring at the ceiling.

She stayed in the bath for about 20 minutes, trying not to think about much and just let the bath serve its purpose. Ease her stress and worries that had built up throughout the day, so she could feel refreshed for tomorrow.

Once she felt like she'd been in there long enough, Hitomi climbed out and grabbed a towel, wrapping it around herself before she unplugged the drain. Hitomi winced as the water began to drain out, glancing back at the door.

He'd probably be asleep by now, so I hope this doesn't wake him up…

She replaced the band-aid on her back and put on her clothes for the night quickly, brushing her hair as well as brushing her teeth before she opened the door slowly. Hitomi peeked out into the room, seeing the lamp on her side table was still on. She stepped out, turning off the bathroom light and closing the door softly. She tiptoed to the dresser that was on the other side of the room, Bakugou's side, careful not to make any noise as she opened the drawer and put her dirty clothes away.

Hitomi glanced over her shoulder as she closed it, seeing Bakugou was now lying on his side, facing her. He seemed to be asleep, breathing softly.

He looks so peaceful.

Hitomi walked over to her side of the bed, rubbing the back of her neck with a sigh. This was now Night 2 of sleeping with Bakugou.

Hopefully we won't end up like we did this morning…

Hitomi plugged her phone into the charger, setting it down on the side table before she turned to the bed, steeling her nerves.

It'll be fine…! Just stay close to the edge!

And for the love of god… don't try to hug anything…

It was a habit of hers that developed several years ago. She guessed it was from witnessing what happened to Nari, as she almost always needed to be holding something in her sleep after that incident. It was like a comfort to her, because it reassured her that she was there, that she was holding something real, and that it wasn't out of her grasp.

She could reach for it.

Hitomi looked down at her hand, her eyebrows furrowing.

She prayed she didn't try to cuddle Bakugou in her sleep.

After all, the sick irony was that he was out of reach. He was better than her in almost every way, with a hard personality that many struggled to break through to connect with him. He'd had said, or rather, it was more like he implied they were friends, but Hitomi figured that was the only wall she was ever going to breach. She didn't know if she could ever be as precious to him as he was to her.

And the idea of that couldn't help but feel painful.

Which is why I don't want this.

I don't want to feel anything more.

Friends are all we'll ever be, and I need to make sure my heart understands that.

She lowered her hand, finally looking back at Bakugou. Her eyes widened slightly when she saw that there seemed to be a pillow in the middle of the bed, as if acting as a barrier. Hitomi couldn't help but soften at the sight, realizing Bakugou had likely put it there so they wouldn't end up in the same fiasco they did that morning.

My heart needs to understand I can never be anything more to you, but when you do things like that…

You're making this difficult for me, Bakugou.

Hitomi's eyebrows furrowed as she stared down at the bed, her lips forming a straight line.

"Why couldn't you just be the gruff, standoffish guy like when we first met?" she whispered, staring at his back. "Why did you have to show me… that you care about me? When you do things like take care of me, or smile at the stuff I say, or show that you're considerate about even the smallest things…?" Her hands gripped the hem of her shorts, wrinkling the fabric. "You gave me a nice nickname, and… you listened to me about my problems without judging me at all. I admire you so, so much. Do you even realize… how much that meant to me back then…?" Hitomi's lips turned up in a small, unwilling smile. "You're making it so hard… not to like you."

Bakugou's shoulders rose and fell slowly, a sign he was still fast asleep.

Hitomi sighed, finally tearing her eyes away.

You make me feel like I could reach you.

When that's not the case at all.

She turned off the light, climbing into her side of the bed. But she hesitated to lie down, instead staying sitting up. As her eyes adjusted to the darkness, she stared at the curtains of the canopy bed, contemplating. Her heart felt like it was buzzing in her chest, swelling and struggling with feelings that were just waiting to break out.

There was something she wanted to do, just this once.

Hitomi glanced at him, turning the idea over and over in her head. She didn't know if she'd be able to fall asleep leaving things like this.

She let out another sigh, biting her lip as she lifted her hand towards her face. There was a faint flush on her cheeks as she brushed her fingertips against her lips, then reaching her hand towards Bakugou's hair. She ran her fingers through it gently, surprised at its softness.

"Thank you…" Hitomi whispered softly, "for caring about me. For being considerate towards me… even when you didn't need to."

She stared at him for another few quiet moments before finally pulling her hand away, hugging her knees to her chest. She rested the back of her hand against her forehead, feeling the burning sensation of her blush spread down her neck.

Crap…

"This… is a problem…" she mumbled, trying to calm her racing heart. She took a deep breath, eventually flopping down to lie on her side and pulling the blanket up to her nose.

She just hoped her embarrassment wouldn't cause a heat wave.

Hitomi covered her face with her hands, and stayed that way for the rest of the night.

A/N: [5/8/2023 EDIT]: Changed the last scene of this chapter. I wrote that literal years ago now, but after all this time and giving it some more thought I decided it was better to change some parts of the last scene. Sorry I'm such a fucking mess TvT

Anyways- hoped you liked this chapter!

I'm super iffy about the first fourth (because as I said, this update was two separate chapters smushed together :P) but I decided to keep it because of how it finally puts an inkling into Bakugou's head that something's up with her. The looks she gives him (or lack thereof) is important.

Anyways, in the case of the rest of this chapter, I think quality-wise it's a bit better. I got to put in some more platonic naritomi interactions and Hitomi got to reflect on her feelings a bit more.

And in case anyone was thinking this, no, Bakugou didn't hear her when she was whispering to herself about her feelings. He was actually asleep, sorry XD
