Chapter 4: Viridian Forest!
Ash, Misty, Pikachu and Psyduck had just spent the night in Viridian City and are now at Viridian Forest.
"Alright, here we go. It seems that there's a lot of bug Pokemon here! I wonder if I can catch one!" Ash said excitedly.
"Wait, there's b-b-bugs in Viridian Forest?" Misty asked, clearly scared.
"What's wrong with bugs Misty?"
"THEY CREEP ME OUT! THEY ARE SO CREEPY AND NASTY!" Misty shouted.
"It'll be fine Misty, plus you have me here to protect you!" Ash replied.
"The only thing you protect is all the food around here." Pikachu said.
"Hey!"
"Whatever can we just go around or something? Please?" Misty pleaded.
"Nope! We are going straight through! Now let's go!" Ash said.
The two of them, (Misty very reluctantly), ventured into the forest. Viridian Forest is a big area filled with trees, lots of Bug Pokemon, and some garden-variety trainers.
While walking, Ash stumbled upon a green caterpillar-like Pokemon, yellow button, and a small red appendage on its head with black eyes.
"Cool, another Pokemon! A Caterpie!" Ash exclaimed. "Now who should I use to catch it with?"
"Put me in Coach! I got this!" Pikachu said while making punching movements.
"Go Pidgey!"
"Well screw you too then!" Pikachu squeaked.
"Pidgey, use Gust!" Ash commanded. Pidgey flapped her wings hard and sent a gust of wind towards Caterpie causing it to go flying into a tree.
"Alright, Pokeball go!" Ash said, throwing the red device towards the Pokemon.
Caterpie was sucked into the Pokeball, it rolled around a bit, but then stayed still with a small light, signifying capture.
"Oh Yeah! I just caught Caterpie!" Ash said happily. Ash brought out his Pokedex and scanned his newest capture.
Caterpie
Worm Pokemon
It releases a stench from its red antenna to repel enemies. It grows by molting repeatedly.
Nature: Quirky
Gender: Male
Moves: Tackle, String Shot, Bug Bite
"Alright, come on out Caterpie!" Ash said, putting its pokeball on the ground, releasing his newest capture.
"Where am I? I was just looking for some food..."
"Hi Caterpie! I'm Ash, your new trainer!" Ash introduced himself. "And this is Pikachu!"
"What's up Caterpie?" Pikachu squeaked.
"This is Mist-" Ash was interrupted by a high-pitched squeal from his companion.
"AAAAAHHHHHH! IT"S SO GROSS AND NASTY GET IT AWAAAY!" Misty yelled.
"Misty! What's wrong with Caterpie?" Ash asked angrily.
"It's a disgusting bug! Get it away, far away!"
Caterpie, now feeling sad, slumped away and returned himself to his pokeball.
"Misty! You hurt Caterpie's feelings! Like it or not Caterpie is a part of this team!" Ash scolded.
"Whatever Ash! Just don't let Caterpie out near me!"
Ash sent out Caterpie again and put him on his shoulder.
"Don't worry about her Caterpie. I like you a lot and we'll get you super strong!" Ash exclaimed.
Caterpie smiled and nodded rapidly.
The group, now with Caterpie in tow, continued on their way to Pewter.
"So, how do you think you'll do against the Pewter City Gym Leader?" Misty asked.
"I'll win for sure!"
"I don't know Ash, Gym Leaders are among the strongest trainers ever, don't take them lightly. They use super strong Pokemon, creative strategies and have a battlefield advantage!" Misty said.
"How do you know so much about Gym Leaders Misty?" Ash asked.
"Ummm, I'm just really smart!" Misty replied nervously.
"Uh, ok Misty whatever you s-" Ash was interrupted by three similar voices.
(AN: I'm not going over their motto again, it's pretty iconic, so I know y'all remember.)
"Team Rocket!" Ash said angrily.
"Let's make this easy twerps, just hand over Pikachu." James said.
"Never!" Misty retaliated.
"Go Pikachu!"
"Staryu let's go!"
Pikachu jumped off Ash's shoulder and Staryu came out of Misty's pokeball, both entering a battle stance.
"Ekans go!"
"Koffing now!"
"Alright, Pikachu use Shock Wave!" Ash commanded.
Pikachu concentrated and released a blue wave of electricity towards his foes.
"Ekans! Jump in front of Koffing and use Protect!" Jessie countered.
Ekans leaped into the air and used a green shield to protect itself and Koffing.
"We've prepared for your Shock Wave! We won't lose this time!" James said confidently. "Now use Sludge!"
Koffing spat out big globs of sludge towards both Pokemon.
"Staryu, use Water Gun and stop that Sludge attack!" Misty said.
Staryu released a blast of water towards the sludge and canceled them out. However, one of the globs of sludge hit Pikachu in the eyes, poisoning him and blinding him.
"Pikachu no! Can you still see?" Ash asked.
"Yes, Arceus has blessed me with the gift of instant sight! NO I CAN"T SEE! DAMN THIS POISON HURTS!" Pikachu squeaked loudly.
"Ash, recall Pikachu! I'll handle them!" Misty said.
Ash rushed over and picked Pikachu up. However, using the distraction, Ekans and Koffing hit Staryu with Tackle and Rapid Spin respectively, weakening it.
"Crap! Staryu Rapid Spin!" Misty panicked. Staryu jumped and spun quickly towards Ekans and Koffing.
"Ekans, use Dig!"
"Koffing, blow it back with Rapid Spin!"
Ekans dug underground and Koffing spun incredibly fast and knocked Staryu back into the ground. Then, Ekans shot up from underground and tackled Staryu, defeating it.
"Recall Pikachu! I'll handle them!" James mocked, laughing.
"Misty, take care of Pikachu! Pidgey let's go!" Ash said, releasing his bird Pokemon.
Pidgey spread her wings and took a battle stance.
"Use Gust!" Ash commanded. Pidgey flapped her wings as hard as she could and blew them both back.
"Ekans, use Poison Sting!" Jessie said. Ekans released small poisonous darts from its mouth, hitting Pidgey.
"Koffing, follow with Assurance!" James followed. Koffing glowed with dark-type energy and tackled Pidgey, doing massive damage.
"What was that?"
"Ash, that was Assurance! It gets stronger if the target was hit right before!" Misty shouted.
Ash gritted his teeth, "Pidgey use Quick Attack!"
Pidgey glowed with blue energy and flew toward Ekans and Koffing.
"Ekans, use Bite!" Jessie said.
Ekans bit on Pidgey's wing right before Quick Attack landed, causing extreme pain as Pidgey cried out.
"Stop it!" Ash shouted.
Jessie, James and Meowth just laughed, glad that they're winning.
Pidgey looked towards Ash, seeing the tears in her Trainer's eyes. Pidgey let out a battle cry and started to glow with a blue light.
"What's happening?" Ash asked to nobody in particular.
"Pidgey is evolving!" Misty said.
Pidgey broke out of Ekan's Bite, and started to transform, getting bigger as the glow died out, revealing a bigger bird with red plumage and red and yellow tail wings.
Ash, in awe, scanned his newly evolved Pokemon with Dexter.
Pidgeotto
The Bird Pokemon
It flies over its wide territory in search of prey, downing it with its highly developed claws.
Moves: Tackle, Quick Attack, Sand Attack, Gust, Air Cutter, Aerial Ace and Double Team.
"Awesome job Pidgeotto!" Ash said happily.
"Looks like you have some new moves! Use Air Cutter!" Ash continued.
Pidgeotto let out another battle cry, and blew her wings so hard she let out blue slashes of wind towards Ekans and Koffing, knocking them back.
"Crap! Ekans use Poison Sting!"
"Sludge Koffing!"
Both of the poison-type Pokemon used their attacks towards Pidgeotto.
"Double Team!"
Pidgeotto made copies of itself all over the area. The attacks hit, but just made some of the clones dissipate.
"Let's end this! Quick Attack Pidgeotto!" Ash said. Pidgeotto bathed itself in blue energy and zoomed towards Ekans and Koffing.
Jessie and James both smirked. "Meowth now!", they said simultaneously.
Meowth jumped up, and used Slash, knocking Pidgeotto down. Meowth then jumped on Pidgeotto's back and sharpened his claws and put them to Pidgeotto's back.
"Alright, twerp, hand over Pikachu before I turn this birdie of yours into confetti!" Meowth threatened.
Ash, frozen in fear for his Pokemon, was unable to respond. However, one of his pokeballs opened, releasing Caterpie, who entered a battle stance.
Jessie, James, and Meowth all laughed.
"Are you kidding me? That thing couldn't beat a Magikarp!" Jessie scoffed.
"It should be in daycare, not in battle!" James added.
Caterpie, now angry, slithered over to Meowth and used Tackle, knocking Meowth off of Pidgeotto's back.
"Caterpie good job!" Ash said happily.
"Now, use String Shot!" Ash followed. Caterpie let out a bunch of string out of its mouth, tightly tying up Jessie, James, Meowth, Ekans, and Koffing together.
"Now give it your best Tackle!" Ash finished.
Caterpie slithered towards Team Rocket, and tackled them so hard, it sent them blasting off.
"Crap! We were so close! James it's your fault!"
"You're not blaming this on me! It's your fault!"
"Both of you chuckleheads suck! But for now….
"Team Rocket's blasting off again!" the three chanted as they were blasted away.
Pikachu, now with his vision back, went to high-five Caterpie.
"Awesome job Caterpie!"
However, Caterpie looked straight up started to glow with the same light as Pidgey did. Caterpie slowly transformed into a cocoon-like Pokemon. This new Pokemon was all green with stoic yellow eyes with a cocoon like shape.
"No way! Caterpie evolved too!" Ash exclaimed, scanning the new Pokemon.
Metapod
The Cocoon Pokemon
A steel-hard shell protects its tender body. The Pokemon quietly endures hardships while awaiting evolution.
Nature: Quiet
Moves: Tackle, String Shot, Bug Bite, Harden
"Awesome, congrats Metapod!" Ash said, hugging his newly evolved Pokemon.
"Nice job Ash!" Misty said.
Ash smiled and thanked his friend, and with two newly evolved Pokemon, continued on their way.
(2 hours later)
"Ugh! Is there no end to this damn forest?" Misty said angrily.
"Yeah I want to have my gym battle!" Ash complained.
"Calm down I'm sure we're almost there." Pikachu squeaked.
"Psy?" Psyduck said, clearly confused as usual.
Then, a strange young boy wearing a fake samurai outfit jumped out and pointed a sword towards Ash.
"Are you Ash Ketchum of Pallet?" the boy asks.
"U-um, yeah, did I do something?" Ash asked nervously.
"I challenge you!" The boy said.
"Yeah sure! Let's have a battle!" Ash said excitedly.
"Leave it to Ash to battle someone who just pointed a dangerous weapon at him." Misty sighed.
The two trainers squared off by about 30 feet.
"It'll be two on two!" the boy called.
"Fine with me! But you should introduce yourself too!" Ash replied.
"I am Samurai of Viridian Forest! I will defeat you! Go Pinsir!" Samurai said, releasing a huge, beetle-like Pokemon with brown color and massive pincers with spikes on them.
"Pidgeotto! I choose you!" Ash exclaimed, releasing his Bird Pokemon.
"Pinsir, use Vise Grip!" Samurai commanded.
Pinsir's mandibles glowed and it charged towards Pidgeotto.
"Use Aerial Ace!" Ash countered. Pidgeotto glowed with blue streaks and ducked under Pinsir's mandibles and crashed into it with flying type energy, making Pinsir stumble back.
"Pidgeotto, don't let up, use Air Cutter!" Ash followed.
Pidgeotto blew its wings fast and hard, sending out streaks of wind towards Pinsir, sending it flying back into a tree.
"Pinsir! This is a tough foe! Let's use Brick Break!" Samurai said. Pinsir ran up at Pidgeotto, chopping Pidgeotto's chest, sending her flying back.
"Pidgeotto, use Sand Attack!" Ash said.
Pidgeotto blew up sand and dust toward Pinsir, blinding Pinsir.
"End it with another Aerial Ace!"
Pidgeotto glowed with blue streaks again and slammed into Pinsir, causing it so stumble and fall back, knocked out.
"Return Pinsir! You fought well, rest up. Now go Metapod!" Samurai said, releasing a Metapod similar to Ash's.
"Alright, Metapod Go!" Ash said, releasing his newly evolved Pokemon.
"Metapod! Harden!" Samurai said. Samurai's Metapod glowed with red energy, signifying a defense boost.
"Metapod, use Bug Bite!" Ash said. Ash's Metapod jumped towards Samurai's Metapod, biting down on its hard shell. But Samurai's Metapod's Defense is too high, as Ash's Metapod can't deal any damage.
"Don't give up Metapod!" Ash said.
Metapod, now determined to win, glows with a familiar blue light. Metapod's cocoon started to break, as a blue, butterfly-like Pokemon with red eyes appeared out of the shell.
"No way!" Ash, Misty, and Samurai said simultaneously.
Ash scanned the new Pokemon.
Butterfree
The Butterfly Pokemon
It loves the honey of flowers and can locate flower patches that have even tiny amounts of pollen.
Nature: Quirky
Moves: Tackle, String Shot, Bug Bite, Harden, Gust, Air Cutter, Silver Wind, Confusion, Sleep Powder, Poison Powder, and Stun Spore.
"Alright Butterfree!" Ash exclaimed. "Let's do this, use Silver Wind!"
Butterfree flapped his wings hard, releasing a silver gust of air that blew back Metapod.
"Now use Gust!" Ash finished. Butterfree flapped his wings even harder, sending Metapod flying into the air as it landed on the ground, knocked out.
"It seems I have lost. Return Metapod. Good job!" Samurai said, returning his Cocoon Pokemon.
"It seems the rumors are true. You are strong. Thank you for the battle and good luck on your journey." Samurai conceded.
Ash smiling, shook Samurai's hand and returned Butterfree.
Ash, Misty, and Pikachu then waved goodbye to Samurai as they continued on their way to Pewter City.
Author: Holy shit that was long. The whole Beedrill plotline was always kind of bad to me, so I handled Butterfree's evolution differently to not only get rid of the stupid Beedrill plotline, but also cut down on this story. Thanks guys and I'll see y'all next time!
