A Welcome Visitor
"Kayla, what's going on?" Caitlin asked as she came into the kitchen. Kayla had several of the scripts she was choosing from on the counter as she was drinking a cup of tea and having cookies for breakfast.
"Got to get my choice into Lucy by Monday or some of the offers will be gone. So, I have a day to decide," Kayla stated, surprising her wife. "Now, this one films in England; it's a musical which you know I like doing. This other one though will film in Australia."
"Would you have to speak in an Australian accent?" Caitlin asked.
"Well, I could," Kayla said, saying this with the accent. "But I wouldn't have to." Kayla gave her wife a smirk as she leaned in for a kiss. "Now this one will film in Africa and it's…"
"Kayla, why is everything you're looking at filming overseas?" Caitlin had to ask. It was when Caitlin was told Kara was pregnant that she noticed Kayla's choices seemed to switch to being out of the country.
"Kara's pregnant," Kayla stated simply. "I need to flee the country for a bit to be away from her. I mean the mood swings, the morning sickness… No, I need to go for a bit."
"This is not exactly what I wanted to hear," Caitlin mused, and Kayla raised an eyebrow. "I mean, I want more kids." At that point, Daphne walked into the kitchen with Ruby and Marley but turned around and grabbed the two before Kayla and Caitlin could say more.
"Let's go out to breakfast," Daphne told the children. Caitlin silently thanked her little sister.
"I know," Kayla responded to Caitlin's prompt of wanting more children, "and we talked about this the night I proposed. I am open to having kids. I don't see what me wanting to go overseas to film right now has to do with this, though?"
"When I was pregnant with Marley and Ruby I didn't have anyone," Caitlin stated. "I was taking care of Daphne. Dr. Wells helped, but he wasn't the father or my father. I was alone. Next time I am pregnant I want a partner. I want you there with me, but if you're fleeing the country to get away from your sister's pregnancy, how will you handle it when it's me?"
"Considering I won't have to feel it, probably very good," Kayla smirked.
"What?" Caitlin said, confused.
"The bond, Caitlin," Kayla reminded her. "When Kara is going through big changes, I am too. The mood swings, morning sickness and oh my god the labor pains! No, I mean, I love my sister, and I don't want her not in my head, but I don't want to feel all that, and trust me, Kryptonians are worse than humans. Distance lessen the bond somewhat."
"Oh. I didn't think of that," Caitlin said not having put two and two together that Kara's pregnancy would be hard on Kayla.
"So now that Daphne ran with the girls…" Kayla started.
"So, what do you think?" Caitlin said.
"Think?" Kayla asked.
"Kids," Caitlin said.
"Oh, we're still on the kids talk," Kayla paused, having thought they were over that conversation as she went for her tea. "What about it?"
"I have been thinking and… well… wouldn't it be just so cute to raise our child alongside Kara and Barry," Caitlin said.
"You want to have a kid now?" Kayla frowned at this. She had not been expecting the conversation to go this way.
"I know when we got together and got married you got instant family," Caitlin mused, "and you have been a good mother to the girls, and it makes me…. Well, I'm not getting any younger. I'd like to do this now. If you're ready, that is?"
"Caitlin, if you want a kid now, I am down for it," Kayla smiled, and was surprised at how fast Caitlin jumped up from her spot and hugged her; Kayla nearly spilling her tea.
"I guess we'll need to go to the doctor and find a sperm donor or buy sperm," Caitlin said, realizing what they were missing. "Maybe we should look into meta human sperm since Kara and Barry kid would be a little much for a normal baby. There are places that specialize…"
"Caitlin," Kayla voiced, an idea popping in her head as she cut her wife off on her ramblings. "How set are you on actually carrying the baby?"
"You want to adopt?" Caitlin asked. "Because your reputation would make it easier, and I am all for…."
"Not exactly what I meant," Kayla said. "Remember Leona?"
"New Justice Rae's daughter? Yes," Caitlin said remembering the child.
"She was born in an artificial womb," Kayla said. "As half of Rae and half of Kara. Two females making a baby."
"We can have a child that's half you and me," Caitlin's eyes went wide at this. "Is it… safe?"
"Safer than normal means," Kayla nodded. "No danger to the mom, or in this case moms, at all – and very little danger to the child. You know Luthor Corp been inventing these for a while. We can ask Lex and Lena how far along that is and if it's ready for us to use. If it's not, we could ask New Justice to borrow one. If you want…?"
Caitlin put her arms around Kayla and kissed her again. "Yes," Caitlin said with a smile. "Let's get to Luthor Corp!"
At that moment Kayla's phone rang. "Weird, it's Lena," Kayla said.
"Speak of the devil," Caitlin chuckled.
"No, let's not use that phrase – after meeting Lucifer himself, it's not that funny anymore," Kayla stated, and Caitlin raised an eyebrow as Kayla answered the call. "Hey Lena, Caitlin and I actually need to talk to you."
"Well, we have a multiverse visitor I think you should come here and see," Lena said.
"Okay, we'll be there soon," Kayla said, wondering who as she hung up the phone. "Let's head to Luthor Corp…" Kayla picked up her wife as she called for Krypto, who had been sleeping in the living room.
-Beautiful-
Kara was sitting at the kitchen table with at least three plates in front of her.
"What exactly are you eating?" Barry asked, walking in. He had to do late night shots for Star Trek and had been gone all night and had only just got home.
"Rae is experimenting with breakfast recipes," Kara said. "Me and baby are willing taste testers."
"And me!" Topar spoke from his spot, fork in hand.
"Experimenting?" Barry asked as he took a seat and kissed Kara.
"Well, my New Justice alternate said to follow the recipes at first and then I can experiment and make recipes of my own," Rae spoke, bringing a pan to the table and putting it down. Kara grabbed it right away and put some on Topar plate, too. "I know it hasn't been that long, but I figured I could start with experimenting."
"Well, give me some food as well. I'm starved. I barely ate – and that's not good for a speedster," Barry said, and Rae gave a smile and gave him some egg experiment she had made.
"So, what is with the late night? Star Trek is usually pretty good on timetables," Kara asked.
"We were filming on location, and it had to be a night shot," Barry said, shaking his head as he took a bite. "Not sure what this is but it's good." Barry nodded to Rae as he continued to eat.
"Thanks," Rae said as she put the last of the food she had been making on the table and went to shut off the stove and the oven. "My New Justice counterpart sent over some recipes of her own and I experimented on them. But I can't do some of the recipes she has made."
"Why not?" Kara asked.
"Because, we don't have the Kryptonian ingredients," Rae said as she went to eat herself, but then noticed the look. "What?"
"Kryptonian ingredients?" Kara asked.
"Yeah, they have a whole Sanctuary over there," Rae said. "Animals and fruits, vegetables, and herbs. My alternate is their cook. She makes Kryptonian recipes for their Kryptonian restaurant, combined with human meats, of course. Big Me said I could come over and join her and my Splitsville counterpart in cooking them one day… and why are you looking at me like that?" Rae noticed the looks Kara was giving her.
"Get them," Kara said. "Get them, cook them. Just give me some fruit!"
"Kara, I am sure New Justice can't supply the entire multiverse with Kryptonian food," Barry said.
"But maybe they can get us some seeds," Kara said. "Then Rae can grow them in a green house. Barry, buy her a green house!"
"What?" Rae asked, unsure where this conversation had come from. "I don't know how to garden."
"Learn," Kara snapped; Rae wasn't going to argue with her as Barry took out his cellphone.
"Let me ask Harry something first," Barry said as he sent a text message to his adopted father as he continued to eat.
Kara was finishing her breakfast as her cellphone rang.
"Hey Lex," Kara said as she answered it.
"I think you should come here," Lex said over the phone. "There's a multiverse visitor you should see – and bring Topar with you."
"Okay," Kara said, confused as she hung up. "Barry, we need to get to Luthor Corp and I am not supposed to use my powers while pregnant."
"Sure, I can sleep later," Barry mumbled, but gave his girlfriend a smile as she finished eating and then grabbed her. "Rae, mind taking Topar?"
"Sure," Rae said as Barry ran off and Rae cleaned up fast and then took Topar and headed for Luthor Corp.
-Beautiful-
In the superhero headquarters of Luthor Corp., Barry and Kara were the first to arrive with Rae and Topar not far behind, along with Krypto's mate, Roxy as well.
"So?" Kara asked Lena and Lex, who were sitting in the chairs.
It was then her eyes went to the other woman in the room. Kara had to blink for a moment. "Mom?" Kara asked as she stared into the face of Alura Zor-El, her mother. "But… no… you… What world?"
"Prime," Alura said, coming forward. "I have been going around the multiverse and meeting other Karas. Lex and Lena tell me you recently performed the Burning Ceremony for my alternate. If this is too much, I can go now."
"No," Kara snapped. "It… I'm so glad there's a version of you out there even if mine is… and I…. um… I… mom…" Tears came to Kara's eyes as she went over and hugged Alura and cried into her, surprising Alura.
'Pregnant,' Barry mouthed to Alura.
"Oh," Alura said, understanding as she hugged the alternate of her daughter.
"Grandma?" It was Topar who jumped up onto a chair and stood on it to see the woman closer.
"Hi," Alura said to the boy. "Now you look a lot like King Mon of Daxam."
"Mon is his father," Kara added, separating from Alura but holding onto her. "He… Mon died a hero a long time ago. I'm with Barry now."
"I understand," Alura said with a smile as she hugged Topar, who gladly hugged back.
"Sorry," it was Kayla coming into the room with Caitlin and Krypto. Krypto and Roxy going to each other instantly. "We made a stop to tell Daphne we might be busy for a bit. Her and the girls are eating breakfast at iHop." Kayla took in the room. "Oh, hi mom. Prime, right?"
"Yes," Alura said.
"Tell the Paragons of Destiny I said hi," Kayla said with a smile.
"Your ease with the multiverse now is a little weird," Caitlin mused.
"To be fair, I never had a problem with the multiverse. I had a problem with that Cisco obsessed with that Star something movie," Kayla said.
"Star Wars," Barry filled her in.
"So, you are Kayla," Alura said, and Kayla nodded. "I have heard of several of you but have not yet met a version of you. I keep missing the Kayla my Kara and Barry call the Hitchhiker, and for some reason I have never been to Twin Earth. Their Astra comes to my Krypton a lot and spent so much time with her I think it slipped my mind to actually visit them," as she spoke, it was clear she was just realizing this fact. "It is finally nice to meet my daughter I never had. Come here."
Kayla didn't need to be told twice and came over to hug Alura. "Nice to see you too," Kayla said, truthfully.
"Now Kayla… that is short for something… It's an unusual Kryptonian name unless… Kaylar?" Alura asked.
"Yes," Kayla said with a nod.
"I thought so. Kaylar was a name we were thinking of when we were naming Kara," Alura said with a smile. "And are you with Caitlin?"
"I am," Kayla said. "My wife."
"My Earth Caitlin is an amazing person. I am sure you are too," Alura said with a smile. "Well, you must be if one of my daughters brings you into the House."
"Thank you," Caitlin said with a smile and Alura held out a hand and Caitlin came over; Alura giving her a hug.
"Did you say you had girls?" Alura asked after the hug.
"Yes," Kayla said putting an arm around her wife. "Marley and Ruby. They are Caitlin's biologically, but mine by love." Caitlin smiled at that. "And speaking of that, Lex, Lena, how are the artificial wombs coming? Ready for a human tests?"
"Urm, no," Lex said. "We've been having problems with… wait… Do you two want…?"
"Yes," Caitlin and Kayla said together.
"Really?!" It was Kara who said it and then ran and hugged her sister. "We would raise our kids together! Lex, Lena you have to fix those!"
"Or we can contact New Justice," Kayla said.
"Or," Alura said. "You can ask the multiverse who is already here. I can easily get a Kryptonian Embryo Chamber for the two of you to use – and while your child is growing, Lex and Lena can study it, and I am sure they will figure out what's wrong with there's through it."
"You'd do that?" Kayla asked.
"Help continue the House of El's legacy on another world? Without question," Alura grinned. "Besides, I always look for ways to help the daughters I visit. This is such an easy one. Let me do it for you."
"Thank you," Kayla said, giving her alternate mom a smile.
"And is there anything you need, Kara?" Alura asked.
"Seeds," Barry said before Kara could answer. He was looking down at his cellphone, seeing the reply from his adopted father. "Harry says he does own a rather large greenhouse that he can install red sun light lamps in for Rae to grow Kryptonian fruits, vegetable, and herbs. We need the seeds though. We were going to ask New Justice, but since you're here and offering…"
"It would be no trouble," Alura said. "We have our own personal greenhouse back on Krypton. Let me use your phone and I'll get several people on my world on sorting everything here and then we can spend the day together."
"We should call Uncle Jor and Aunt Lara and tell them. I am sure they and Gal will want to meet mom too," Kara said. "Along with Clark."
"You have a Jor, Lara, and Gal alive?" Alura said, stopping as she went to the phone. "That's a first. Yes, I must see them all."
"We also have a Cora, but she's a Lantern so hard to get back in Earth's sector," Kayla mused, still getting used to this one.
"Well, we can invite everyone to my house," Barry spoke, making everyone turn to look at him. "We can spend some time together; Rae can cook a large lunch in a few hours, and I can…."
"Sleep," Kara filled in, knowing Barry well.
"All day – and I have to go back to filming tonight," Barry said and gave a yawn.
"Go," Kara said. "Sleep. We'll get everyone gathered." Barry gave a smile and kissed Kara before running off.
"Time to make phone calls," Kayla said and Alura gave a nod going to make her phone calls as Kara and Kayla both took out phones.
"Since when do you garden?" Caitlin asked Rae now, thinking back to the seeds needed.
"I don't," Rae mused, and Caitlin laughed herself at that.
"I'll help," Caitlin said and winked at Rae as she watched Topar sit on Alura's lap as Alura talked on the phone to her world while Kala and Kara were talking on their phones.
-Beautiful-
"Oh, it's good to see Gal this young," Alura was saying, having to smile at the young Gal-El, who was still a pre-teen here. Jor and Lara had hugged their alternative sister-in-law upon seeing her, and she had been happy to see alternate of her brother-in-law too, but it was Gal who shocked Alura. She remembered when Gal was this young, being a bit of a troublemaker and it brought back good memories. "I actually haven't seen Gal in a long time. He's…"
"Keeping order in the universe," a voice spoke, and Alura nearly jumped as her own Gal appeared in the full room, wearing his black Super Suit he'd given himself at the end of Crisis.
"Gal, what are you doing here?" Alura asked, going to hug her actual nephew as the young Gal stared at his alternative curiously.
"He is one of my few alternates," Gal said, nodding over at his younger self. "It's impossible to make as big of a mistake as I did, but I have been using my powers to keep track of other mes. Just in case. When I saw you here I thought I would come. No one minds?"
"It's good," Kara said with a nod and a smile taking a look at what Gal would look like when he grew up – a lot like Clark, but more defined. Jor and Lara were looking at her alternative son in curiosity too.
Meanwhile, Clark and Lois had come to Barry's with their kids. Mik and Imra had decided to come and meet Alura too. Caitlin's sister had come back with the girls, Marley, and Ruby, who Alura had grabbed in a hug. The little kids were grabbing the appetizers Rae was making and bringing them out into the living room for everyone. The only person missing was Kayla, who had said she needed to go get one last person.
"Look who I brought," Kayla arrived, Lana Lang beside her.
"Lana," Kara said, grinning at her adopted mother.
"My girls," Lana said, hugging Kara. "When Kayla told me who was here I had to come meet an alternate of your mom." Lana eyes went to Alura.
"You're the one who took care of them here?" Alura asked.
"It was an honor," Lana said and Alura went to bring Lana into a hug.
"Oh, hey Pariah," Kayla said, blinking at the man. Gal giving a wave at that.
Lana and Alura started to talk at this, with Lana giving stories of the girls when they came – including Kayla starting off in acting. It was fascinating for Alura, who had never had to send her Kara away, given the Kara back on Prime Earth was a clone while she had raised her own Kara safely on an undestroyed Krypton.
Soon, the visit somehow turned into watching the 'Beautiful' movie, which Alura had asked about later down the conversation, Alura smiling at her alternative daughter's singing voice – the Kara she had back on Prime Krypton was a lot more serious, so rarely sang. It was beautiful to hear.
"Okay," Rae finally said as the movie ended. "I've got pasta, I got fish, I got meats… I mean, there's basically a feast here ready to be eaten. The dogs are already eating. One thing I am missing is desserts. I actually haven't done much baking and this was short notice."
"Kayla?" Caitlin spoke at this, and Kayla gave a nod as she ran out. Returning a moment later with a lot of boxes of cakes and cookies.
"You'll have to learn homemade eventually, since you seem to be our designated cook, but for now, store bought will work," Kayla stated, putting the boxes in the kitchen. "Where is my Beautiful co-star?" She asked of Barry looking around for him.
"Still sleeping," Kara said, "late night filming for Star Trek has him…" but as if Kayla had summoned him, Barry came down the steps.
"Okay a couple hours in and I am… who's the black suited Superman?" Barry asked pointing at the older Gal, who had taken his younger self under his wing as he played a Kryptonian game with the young Gal.
"Pariah," Kayla said making Barry pause.
"It's an alternate of Gal," Kara said. "Come on honey. We're eating."
"Two Gals…" Barry mused as everyone sat down and food was passed around. The chatting and stories continued – Kara even bringing up Samantha Arias, who Alura raised an eyebrow at. "I can see if she's available to come here quick. Last I heard though she was directing a movie out of country," Kara stated quickly, glad her other sister was forging a career in directing now.
"Next time," Alura said, noticing the look Kayla gave to mentioning having Sam here. She decided not to dig into that yet. "But it's nice to have someone here representing the House of Ze. I'm afraid my birth House died with myself and my own sister. No one ever decided to take up for it unfortunately."
It was after the desserts Kayla had bought that the older Gal stood up. He had been sitting next to his younger self and alternate parents most of the time.
"I should go," Gal said. "Aunt Alura, tell mom and dad I'll be home soon. Oh, and apologize to Cora for… well…" he smirked at this as Alura laughed, obvious a joke between the two of them. Alura however moved to kiss her nephew and then he disappeared, his younger alternative looking sad that he had to go.
"And that's Lena," Kayla said, seeing her phone go off. "Prime has sent over everything. The artificial Krypton womb, seeds, and other equipment."
"Some Kryptonian medical equipment," Alura nodded. "I think it should be helpful for Kara's pregnancy. I should go set up the Embryo Chamber for the two of you and then I should leave as well," Alura mused. "But I will be back to see the babies when they are born."
"You're always welcome," Kara said to the woman, giving her a hug – and Kayla did as well.
"I think I have to go see other Kaylars now," Alura said, lingering a look at Kayla. "Maybe Twin will be my next stop…" Kayla gave a smile at that, not sure what else to say.
"Let's go back to Luthor Corp," Kayla said, giving Caitlin a nod.
-Beautiful-
Later that night, Barry was about to head for filming.
"It was nice seeing an alternate of mom," Kara said. "And the equipment mom bought has been enhanced to get around my power protection here – we'll be able to monitor the baby better – and Lena thinks we'll see be able to tell the sex soon. Mom said she might be able to send over the House of El Birther to help too… well, she insisted on it."
"That's great," Barry said, a little distracted.
"There is one thing you should know," Kara said. She had gone to Luthor Corp to test the equipment; Alura had used it on her to show them how it worked after Caitlin and Kayla put their blood in the womb to make their child.
"Can this wait?" Barry asked.
"Well… yes… but it is something I need to tell you," Kara said.
"Fine, but fast," Barry said looking at his watch.
"Well… mom said there were two heartbeats," Kara said.
"Yeah. Yours and the baby," Barry said confused.
"No, not like that," Kara said, realizing her mistake. "I guess three heartbeats including mine…" Barry paused, and Kara realized she had to spell it out for him. "Barry, we're having twins." Barry stared at Kara for a moment before collapsing onto the floor. "Seriously…?"
"Maybe you should have waited until tomorrow for that," Rae said, coming into the room from the kitchen and Kara chuckled. Rae took her glass of water and threw it on Barry's face, which seemed to work as he jumped up, wiping the water off him as he blinked and looked around. "You're welcome."
"Um, thanks Rae," Barry said with a wave, and then looked at Kara, remembering why he fainted. "Twins? That's great!" Barry said and kissed Kara. "But I got…"
"I know. Go," Kara said, and Barry ran out as Kara giggled at her boyfriend's reaction.
-Beautiful-
"Oh Barry," Kayla mumbled, laughing seeing the scene in her sister's head as she looked at the script in her hand. She only had part of the script obviously and other information about the movie she needed to decide.
"You've been reading that one for an hour," Caitlin said. Kayla was sitting on the couch with both Krypto and Roxy, the latter of whom had come home with them. "What is it?"
"You know that hero, Vixen?" Kayla asked.
"The one with the Totem, yeah. Her real name is actually Mari," Caitlin said, knowing from her hero connections.
"Yeah," Kayla said with a nod. "Well, there are actually six Totems, and this movie is about them. It's actually a trilogy, kind of like Lord of the Rings, and both Mari and her grandmother are consulting and writing for the movie. Plus, Mari's cousin, Tantu, is playing the Spirit Totem bearer in this. They want me to play an archeologist who finds the long-lost Earth Totem and gets chosen to be its bearer."
"Seems like a different type of part for you. Not a musical for one," Caitlin mused.
"I don't always do musicals," Kayla pointed out, but had a smile on her face. "And this is an amazing movie from what I read… but the movies are being filmed in Africa. And I would have to leave soon. This starts filming for the summer."
"Do it," Caitlin said; Kayla raised an eyebrow. "Our baby is growing, not in my womb, and you'll be back for her birth." Kayla gave a nod. "And I don't want you to pass on something you want to do. I can tell you want this. Take the part."
"Thank you! You're the best," Kayla said, quickly texting Lucy to tell her what part she wanted. "Well, that's done." Kayla smiled as she put the script down, Lucy replying saying she would contact the studio and get her a contract.
"Good," Caitlin said, coming up and kissing her passionately. "You know, Ruby and Marley are in bed. Daphne is out with friends..."
"Daphne has friend that aren't us?" Kayla joked.
"Kayla…" Caitlin rolled her eyes at this. "That's not exactly what I meant."
"Oh," Kayla said, but couldn't say more as Caitlin kissed her again – the kiss deep and passionate.
"Let's get into our room," Caitlin whispered, pulling out of the kiss. She didn't need to tell Kayla twice as she picked her wife up and ran into the bedroom. Krypto and Roxy looked up for a moment but didn't move to follow as they stay snuggled on the couch.
Post Chapter Note: I love doing Prime Alura visiting – she always a pleasure to have and likes to solve other worlds' problems, although that might get her into trouble at one point when a world doesn't want help, yes, a tiny teaser to another story. Also, fun to use Gal again!
