Note: So, this section was originally going to be 4 chapters, but Sigma and I really got into planning an alternate Doctor Who for Beautiful, so we decided to make this chapter to explain a bit more of it. Hope you enjoy!

Meeting the Showrunner

Kayla kicked the toy out of the way as she made her way downstairs.

"Ruby, you and Marley really need to clean up your toys – or keep them in the room!" Kayla yelled out; the two children were playing around, running around the couch. "Be careful with…" at that, Danielle sent ice out from her hands, and Kayla had to stop it from hitting anyone or anything. She picked up her youngest daughter and sighed as the doorbell rang.

Kayla went for the door and opened it.

"Kayla Kent," the man on the other side spoke. He was middle-aged, wore glasses and had a British accent.

"Russell, hi," Kayla said, holding Danielle in one arm and holding out her hand to shake the man's hand. This was Russell T Davies, the showrunner of Doctor Who. "Come in." A toy came flying at them and Kayla caught it before it hit the man. "Sorry, my wife is setting up STAR Con and my sister-in-law is… I don't know."

"It's fine," Russel chuckled as they closed the door.

"Give me a moment," Kayla said, and then whistled loudly to stop the two children. It stopped Ruby, but not Marely who was obviously deaf; but when her sister stopped, Marley stopped as well. "I have a meeting." Kayla said and used her one hand to sign it out to Marley. "I need you to be quiet. Zari," Kayla stopped signing as she called to the other girl, the teenager looking up from the table she was sitting at. "You're in charge for a bit. If there is anything you need me for, knock on my room door."

"But don't need you unless the house is on fire," Zari said, almost quoting this.

"Good girl," Kayla said with a smile and wink as she put Danielle in her playpen and kissed her head before leading Russell to her work room.

"Take a seat," Kayla indicated to a spare seat as she sat on her piano bench while Russell took the chair in the room. "Nice to officially meet you. Got to say, I am kind of surprised you agreed to announce the 14th Doctor at STAR Con, though." The non-specific STAR Con that anyone from any movie, show, musical, etc. could show up to was taking place that weekend and then after that, she had to head to England for Doctor Who filming.

"Well, when the idea was suggested, we thought it was better than the way we were planning – especially since your role as companion was leaked," Russel explained. "Tom Ellis has last-minute made his way here and is in the hotel."

"And Matt Smith agreed to make an appearance. We got a video set up to go with his slip," Kayla said, knowing that one. "My wife wants to run the announcement by you though; STAR Con is a three-day event and it's going to be the big event on the second day. She's already asking if you all can make the sci-fi themed STAR Con too."

"Perfect," Russell grinned enthusiastically. "I wanted to meet you in person today though, because I know you didn't watch Who before getting the part."

"I did not, but I have been catching up on your era," Kayla said. "And the Rose and Tentoo spinoff. I've got to ask though, why this season is only going to be 10 episodes. It seems your rushing to get it out."

"Well, I kind of am. I want Tom Ellis to have a season before the 60th Anniversary in October 2023. But I have been planning this out for a while," Russel explained. "You know, after I left Who, I oversaw all the spinoffs. It's been my dream for a while to have a Doctor Who universe the same size of the Star Trek Universe."

"Well, you have a lot of spin offs, but a lot of them seem to be only one season, or three at the most. The only ones that went longer were Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures, and Susan: The Doctor's Granddaughter," Kayla said, before pausing. "And the Doctor has a granddaughter…?" Russell chucked at this one.

"How far are you on my run?" Russell, however, asked.

"I've just finished Journey's End," Kayla said.

"Ah, season 4. So, you haven't watched season 5: David Tennant's 4th season yet," Russell said thoughtfully. "You know that season almost didn't happen; I was prepared to move onto the spin offs and other projects away from Doctor Who while there was the handover to Steven Moffat, as David was thinking if he didn't leave the TARDIS he never would. Steven was ready to take over and we already knew Matt Smith was going to be the next Doctor, but we had a year break before the first Smith season. We were going to do specials either way and we got some extra funding for a whole season with David, so we decided to go for it."

"Yeah, it seems David Tennant was the only main that season from the descriptions I read," Kayla said.

"The 10th Doctor never took another companion after Donna. The last season was revisiting old companions; River Song came back, Martha Jones, we even got Rose in for an episode. Susan did appear in that season as well. It was honestly a great season. We had the 10th Doctor live for a few hundred years on his own exploring, too," Russell said, seeming to be reminiscing so Kayla let him. "But anyway, it's the future now. So, is there any questions you have?"

"Of course, I get it," Kayla smiled affectionately at this. "But yeah, my questions, so my character is Rose and Tentoo's – the Meta-Crisis Doctor – daughter born at the end of the Pete World's spin off. She was kidnapped by a group out to get the Doctor, but she was taken away from them and left abandoned on the street in America in the main universe until she met up with the 14th Doctor, not knowing anything about who she really is," Kayla summarized with a shrug. "Although I get Tentoo is a human clone of the Doctor, is my character completely human?"

"Good point. There might be a little Time Lord in her," Russel said. "But yes, that's the gist of it."

"And I don't get the anniversary special. I'm in it, but the season will be over before it airs. I am being written out at the end. Going back to Pete's world," Kayla said

"It will be the 14th and Jane, your character, before the finale. Time travel, remember," Russell said. "You might want to watch some of Classic Who, the 5th Doctor, especially. 14 and 5 are crossing over in their anniversary special."

"…you might need to explain a bit more," Kayla said, a little lost.

"Okay, so there are 7 anniversary specials where New Who Doctors will be crossing over with Classic Doctors," Russell explained. "It's the War Doctor and the First Doctor – I thought it would be interesting for Dame Judi Dench's Doctor to bump into her first self. She's premiered in the 50th you know – it was going to be John Hurt, but Steven decided to do a female instead." Kayla decided to just nod at this. "The Second and Third Doctors will meet up with the Eleventh. The Fourth Doctor is meeting up with the Thirteenth. The Fifth Doctor and the Fourteen, like I said. The Sixth Doctor and the Ninth Doctor. Seven with Twelve, while the Eighth Doctor and the Tenth will be the last two. We're already reaching out to all the Doctors to get signed on and plan the filming schedule. We'll film the Fourteen and Fifth Doctor's special while you're in England so Fourteen has his companion."

"No offense, but aren't most of the Classic Doctors either dead or… you know, too old?" Kayla asked.

"Well, yes," Russell chuckled at this. "The First Doctor already has a recast thanks to my good friend Mark Gatiss – and, of course, we're recasting from the Second to the Sixth Doctors," Russel explained. "We can get away with Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann due to the large amount of time between their tenue and their regeneration, plus a little bit of make up for Sylvester. We might have to recast the Ninth Doctor due to ongoing issues too..." Russel didn't elaborate, and Kayla decided not to ask. She had read online there had been issue during filming between the team and the actor who'd played the Ninth Doctor. "But all living Classic Doctors will appear as versions of the Curator in specials – future incarnations of the Doctor who revisited their old faces," Russell noticed the look Kayla gave. "Might want to watch the 50th anniversary as well."

"If I have time before we go," Kayla mused as a thought came to her. "Who are you recasting the Classic Doctors with anyway? I know you said the First Doctor was already recast…?"

"Yes, well you'll know some of the names we have," Russell smirked now. "The First Doctor has been recast with David Bradley, of course."

"The original Mr. Filch from Harry Potter," Kayla nodded. "He's doing the voice for the show as well."

"Indeed," Russell stated. "Which brings us to Harry Melling, who'll be playing the Second Doctor."

"Dudley Dursley," Kayla chuckled, knowing a lot of the Harry Potter films by now.

"He's actually the grandson of the original Second Doctor, Patrick Troughton," Russell explained.

"Nice connection," Kayla acknowledged.

"Then we have Sean Pertwee playing the Third Doctor – the son of the original Third Doctor, Jon Pertwee," Russell continued.

"Keeping it in the family," Kayla nodded.

"Of course, Jon Culshaw's playing the Fourth Doctor – he's a renowned impressionist, a die-hard Doctor Who fan, and his Tom Baker voice is second only to Tom himself," Russell chuckled at this, but Kayla simply nodded. "And then we have another Harry Potter alumni in Tom Felton, who is playing the Fifth Doctor – so you'll get to meet him when you film soon," Russell explained.

"Neat," Kayla smiled at this one. "He's doing the voice as well for Draco from season 3 on. A lot of Harry Potter actors though."

"Well, you know the UK only has like 20 actors, so we need to recycle them," Russell chuckled, knowing the joke many people had about British actors. "But William Mosely of the Chronicles of Narnia fame will be rounding off our Classic casting, donning the curly blonde wig and rainbow jacket and playing the Sixth Doctor," Russell explained. "We had to lock in our recasts long before we even decided on how to bring back our Classic Doctors – just so we actually had something."

"I get it," Kayla stated. "Will their own companions join them?"

"Yes, in fact–" but Russell was cut off as the door to the room opened and Barry came running in.

"I tried to stop him," it was Zari who was holding Danielle, following on behind.

Kayla gave her oldest daughter a nod and waved her hand, letting Zari know she could go. "Barry, what are you doing?" Kayla asked her brother-in-law.

"I figured we could go over STAR Con stuff," Barry said, but his eyes were not on Kayla as he said this. "Russell T. Davis, I'm Barry Allen."

"I'm aware. I am a Star Trek fan," Russel smiled politely.

"And I am a big fan myself. I love Doctor Who," Barry said. "And love the Susan: The Doctor's Granddaughter spin off. You know, I often thought I would fit in well on both. Or I heard rumors you're making a Jenny: The Doctor's Daughter spinoff based on the Big Finish audios or even a Romana Time Lady show."

"Barry, breathe," Kayla snapped, as Barry had said all this in one breath. She turned her attention back to Russell though. "Wait, aren't the Romana show rumors connected with rumors I am Romana?" Kayla asked.

"Yes, rumors. I'm focusing on the main show now, though. I need to bring the ratings back up to keep the entire universe running," Russell said. "But maybe in the future..." he looked back at Barry as he said this.

"Well…." Barry said, unsure what to say to that.

"Barry, he said the future," Kayla sighed, taking her brother-in-law's arm and pushing him out of the room and closing the door. This time, locking it. "Sorry," she turned to Russell at this.

"It's fine," Russell chuckled. "I think our meeting was about over anyway. I look forward to working with you."

"Same," Kayla said. "I'll see you at STAR Con."

-Beautiful-

That weekend at STAR Con, Matt Smith, with Russell T. Davis was on the stage and the video of him slipping up about Kayla, was being played.

"Not my proudest moment," Matt chuckled into his microphone. "But I'm glad I could help make this event something interesting. We're two Doctors passed my run and the third is about to come, but Doctor Who holds a special place in my heart – or should I say, hearts," he winked at the crowd, many of whom laughed, "which is why I can officially announce I have signed a deal to return for the 60th special." At this, there were applause and cheering.

"And we're glad to have him back," Russell said. "But let's bring Kayla Kent out!" Kayla came from behind the stage to more applause and cheers. "And as for her character we can confirm she will be playing a character called Jane Roe." There was pause and whispers at this. "Jane has a complicated past and a connection to the Doctor; she doesn't know herself – one she will discover throughout her season."

"And you will all be surprised if no one leaks it," Kayla chuckled, giving Matt Smith a playful laugh. "But enough about me; I think everyone wants to know the new Doctor."

"Yes," Russell said, smirking again. "Roll the video."

A special video had been made for the Doctor – words appeared on the screen: 'he was on the show before' and a scene from Martha season, when Tom Ellis was in it, chasing down a Toclafane sphere. 'Now he returns as the Doctor: Tom Ellis will be the 14th Doctor' – the words announced. As the video ended, Tom Ellis himself came on the stage; Russell putting an arm around Tom Ellis as people clapped.

Kayla remained quiet as Russell talked more about the future of Doctor Who and the Who universe, with Tom now center to all conversation and thoughts.

I think this went well, Kayla thought to Kara, who was with Caitlin off-stage.

You wife is very happy, Kara thought back. My husband is upset he could not use you to get a part in Doctor Who.

He has enough shows coming up, Kayla thought back with a smile. I'm not talking to Russell again to convince him to get Barry on the show.

I know, Kara thought back.

Post Chapter Note: I know it was short, but I hope it all made sense. This was basically a barely disguised footnote on how Beautiful's Doctor Who differed from the known Doctor Who – an idea to show the difference in Doctor Who before Kayla started to film.
