Future Plans
-End of January/Beginning of February 2023-
Kara was in the kitchen, cutting up some vegetables and putting them on a plate that had some dipping sauces on it.
"Where's Rae?" Barry asked coming in and grabbing a carrot, dipping it in to the ranch, and eating it as he did. Kara shrugged. "You don't know where she is?"
"She's 18. She could be on Karry Universe with Connor for all I know," Kara said truthfully of Rae's boyfriend. "I'm not really monitoring her that much. She is an adult now."
"Seems like just yesterday she was just our bonus kid," Barry mused.
"I mean, to be fair that was 3 years ago and considering her memory problems we did treat her like a little kid for a while, but she grew fast," Kara reasoned and Barry nodded; he sometimes forgot how much Rae was an adult now, but she would always be like a kid sister or older daughter to him. "Besides it's just us, Harry, and Jesse. We don't need a big cooking display. Just some snacks."
"Oh, I got Kelvin and Asher in their speedster walkers Harry made for them," Barry said, and Kara had to smile - those speedster walkers were the best for the kids, as it allowed the twins to experiment with their speed but kept them in the living room area and safe. Harry had designed it and from what Kara understood, Amelia and Cisco had helped - even if they were still off working on the supercollider. "And Topar is studying his lines from his movie this summer," Barry added.
"I still can't believe my son is becoming an actor. Should have known though. He did always love his aunt," Kara chuckled. "I'm glad Alex managed to get him on the same movie as Zari though. Kayla's going to be monitoring that."
"He's been asking if he can get on either Zoey or Lake's Extraordinary Playlist. He wants to sing again," Barry said and Kara had to giggle.
"How is that going?" Kara asked, knowing her sister was doing a reoccurring role on Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist while Barry was the main in the spin off, Lake's Extraordinary Playlist, which had Barry as a Doctor who had the same ability as Zoey. Being a summer show that only did 6 to 8 episodes a season, it left Barry the time to do the show and continue with the movie parts he wanted to take.
"Oh great, you know I sort of do a dual part," Barry said, opening a bag of cookies on the table and starting to lay them out on one of the plates Kara had ready. "I am Doctor Lake Summers, but to make it so I can sing more than Jane Levy can on the mother show they came up with the concept of K.I.M."
"Kim?" Kara asked.
"Stands for 'kinda is me'," Barry said. "When Lake needs to hear his own heart song the K.I.M walks out of his body as sort of a hologram Lake sees singing it. And since Lake is a doctor and a lot of the show takes place in his hospital, Lake is normally wearing scrubs but K.I.M has some wild outfits. I sang 'On The Street Where You Live' in a tuxedo with a red rose in the pocket and a top hat plus a cane. I twirled around a streetlight. It was fun."
Kara had to smile at her husband's excitement. "I'm glad it's going well," Kara said as she finished cutting up the vegetables.
"Yeah, this, plus Animorphs this fall, the Picard movie where Danny Crusher's story ends for now, and what will be announced today should be enough to cover the failure that will be Atlantis this summer," Barry said as he took one of the cookies that didn't fit on the plate and ate it himself.
"No hope for that?" Kara asked.
"None," Barry said grabbing the plate. "But here we are talking about me. What's going on with you lately? How is everything going nannying for Kayla and Caitlin?"
"Well, the kids are great. Since Zari and Carter are both on Jurassic World it's easy in that department and I can still help the Grants. Dani feels like my own daughter, honestly," Kara said, giving a smile there; she loved her boys but always wondered what it would be like to have a daughter. Dani definitely gave her the experience and sometimes Dani even mistakenly called her mama - something that didn't annoy Kayla at all since Topar use to do the same when he was young and Kalvin and Asher have done it too. "And Marley and Ruby are good as always. Honestly, Caitlin tries to do more for them than she does for Zari or Dani."
"Really?" Barry raised an eyebrow at this. "What's up there?" Barry asked, seeing Kara's face.
"Nothing, just spending so much time with Caitlin and in their house gives me a different view from seeing them at family events or through Kayla's mind. Kayla tends to over fantasize their life. Seeing it up close… Caitlin definitely loves her first girls more than Zari or Dani. Kayla loves all of them, but Zari and her definitely have a special bond and Dani is attached to her hip. Ruby definitely still is over the top when it comes to Kayla. I don't know if Kayla notices Ruby still sometimes acts like a little fan girl."
"It's cute," Barry said and Kara had to admit the way Ruby idolized Kayla was cute but she wasn't sure how healthy it was given Kayla was also her step-mom too. "And Marley?"
"She's the most normal with both. She's definitely more attached to her mother but has grown to respect and love Kayla as a bonus parent," Kara said. "But it's not just that, though. Kayla and Caitlin… Have you ever realized they fight a lot?"
"I remember seeing one or two at events," Barry said. "We fight at times too."
"Yes, but the two… I don't understand Caitlin. She acts like she's going through this alone at times and rejects anything Kayla tries to do. She seems to care more for Kayla as an actress than as her wife," Kara said. "I'm not saying they don't love each other. I know Kayla loves Caitlin. But sometimes they act like two single people who live together."
"I think the term is roommate," Barry said, taking another cookie as the doorbell rang.
"Hey, this is between husband and wife," Kara said. "Don't go running your mouth." Barry made a gesture as if he was zipping up his lips and throwing away the key as he went to answer the door for his adoptive father and sister.
"Well, this brings me back," Harry said walking in with Jesse. "Having a watch party to watch the announcement of Barry's new part."
"When Barry first started we'd crowd the living room TV to see the announcements," Jesse said. "Me, dad, Barry, and Amelia. Cake and cookies and dad always made sure to put some vegetables out."
"Well, that explains the menu Barry wanted," Kara said, having been setting up the same exact thing in the living room. Smiling at her twins who were running around in their walkers. "Topar, you can study your lines later. We have people over."
"Okay mom," Topar said, picking up the script and closing it. "This will be a fun movie. Too bad Kayla and Barry can't be in it."
"Oh Pokémon! I would have loved to be in that, but they are hiring no one over the age of 15," Barry said with a smile that kind of turned into a frown. The live action Pokémon movie Zari was set to star in and Topar was now going to be one of her co-stars, from Barry's understanding, her main companion through the movie was definitely a darker take than the cartoons that went around in the Pokémon universe. The lack of adults was one of the things that made it darker, all of them having been killed in the same event that made Pokémon in this movie.
Barry had taken the remote and turned on the TV, going to the right channel for movie announcements.
"Sony's big announcement starts in 10 minutes," a voice said and there was a countdown, the cameras on Sony headquarters.
"Sony is going all out for this announcement," Barry said. "Me and one other person they are announcing even filmed a scene for them to show."
"He's very excited about this part. Whatever it is," Kara said.
"We guessed, it's been a very long time since we have done these announcement watches," Harry said.
"I was thinking we should bring them back. Maybe not for every role but for big ones - and maybe even for Topar's first major role," Barry said giving his stepson a smile.
"If I don't have to be somewhere for the paper, sure," Jesse said as she took a piece of the cake. "Did Rae make this?"
"Last night," Kara said with a nod.
"Where is she?" Harry asked, looking around as if expecting her to show up.
"She left early this morning and hasn't returned," Kara answered as she, too, dug into some of the snacks they put around as they chatted until the TV music indicated the announcement was about to start and a spokesperson from Sony had walked up to the podium.
"I could tell you what we are doing but seeing is believing, so roll," the spokesperson said and a video screen above her started an obvious ready-to-go trailer, the TV screen switching to it. Everyone but Barry was a little shocked as scenes from all three versions of the Spider-Man movies played, including having Toby Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland in the most recent film, until the ending said 'The Spider Verse'.
The announcement going back to the spokesperson.
"Yes, we will be doing a live action Spider Verse series," she said. "Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be back to lead as their own versions of Peter Parker. Meanwhile, Tom Holland will still mostly be appearing in MCU movies for Disney, but will be making cameo appearances. But we can't just have three spiders in a Spider Verse and they all just can't be Peter Parker. We have cast two new actors to play Miles Morales and Ben Reilly. How about a little show? Roll!"
The scenes Barry previously mentioned they had filmed for this announcement started. It was obviously not Barry first, as a dark skinned familiar young actor took the lead in this along with Toby as his Peter. The actor showing some stunts before introducing himself to Peter as Miles Morales and the words 'Walter West as Miles Morales' showed on the screen.
Then it went to Barry who was doing a lot of swinging around in his scene and ending up jumping on the floor in front of Andrew's Peter.
"Who are you?" Andrew's Peter asked.
"I'm the real Spider Man," Barry said on the screen as he went to attack Andrew and the scene ended with the words 'Barry Allen as Ben Reilly'.
The spokesperson appeared back on the screen after that.
"Yes, Walter West son to legendary actor Joe West and younger brother to up and coming Wally West will be taking the role of Miles. Meanwhile, Barry Allen of Star Trek, Animorphs, Beautiful the Movie, and STARCon fame will be our Ben Reilly. We have three confirmed movies in the Spider Verse but depending on how well they do we have plans to expand them."
The announcement went to questions being answered with some clearly scripted answers - including a question about Kayla possibly being part of it. Kara almost had to laugh at that as it seemed with Barry being involved, the idea of Kayla being part of it was a question people were ready for. And the answer was always 'we would love to have her'.
After it was over, Harry patted Barry on the back.
"Nice one, son," Harry said. "And now you can be a guest at Hero Con as more than just the real life Flash making an appearance."
"Yeah, that will be fun," Barry said with a nod. Hero Con was one of the only STAR Cons he didn't have a real part for, but now he did. And since Kayla was cameoing as Supergirl in Voyage to Krypton, she could go too, but since the movie hadn't been released yet, no one knew. That had been so top secret that Barry wasn't even sure if Kara knew.
"And when Kayla gets her Wonder Woman movie up and running that will lead her to it," Kara added. "She just needs Jace to come back and figure out how to do it without a studio or anything backing it."
"She's not having a studio on it?" Jesse asked.
"She wants complete control over it," Kara said, knowing how important telling Diana's story accurately had been to Kayla.
"Hey Barry, is there anything I can do in Spider-Man?" Topar asked.
"You are a little young," Barry said to the boy, to a frown from him. "Hey, you still have Pokémon this summer."
"Yeah, I got to continue reviewing my lines," Topar said.
"Want a hand?" Jesse asked.
"No, I got it Jesse," Topar said heading for the stairs.
"You know you can call me Aunt Jesse," Jesse said.
Topar paused turning and looked at her over the railing. "Why? Your just Jesse," Topar said, and before Jesse could answer Topar had continue up the stairs.
Kara didn't say anything as she collected her twins, who had been annoying Roxy, their dog, with their walker and went to bring them up stairs to give Barry some time with the two.
"Barry, I got to ask... Did you ever adopt Topar?" Jesse asked.
"Whoa, lower your voice when you ask things like that here! Topar is half-Kryptonian and half-Daxamite and has a lot more of the powers than I realized at first," Barry said keeping his voice low as well. "But no, I haven't. I am just his step-dad."
"What would happen if something happens to Kara?" Jesse asked and Harry seemed not to want to question this, but looked curious as well.
"Come on…" Barry said with an eye roll at that.
"I know she's… well, Kryptonian, but isn't she getting back out as Supergirl?" Jesse asked, and Barry gave a nod. She and Kayla were going to switch off on who was the on call Supergirl from now on, to keep it to one Supergirl for the public but two in reality. "So…?"
"If something happens to Kara, Kayla becomes Topar's guardian," Barry admitted, surprising the two. "And I am sure if Topar wanted to stay with me, Kayla would work with that, but I am not sure he would. Topar has had some negative feelings in the past at the idea of me replacing Mon. It took a lot to convince him I wasn't and wasn't going to try. He loves me as his step-dad but Kayla's been like a bonus mom to him since he was born. I'm okay with the idea he would want to be with her. I'm okay with the idea he might want to be with Mik over me. I know where the line is."
"That's good to know," Harry said, agreeing with Barry on that. After that, the little family chatted for a bit before Jesse said she needed to run for an interview at work.
"This was fun though. Reminds me of the past. We should do it more often," Jesse said as she left.
"I agree," Harry said, giving Barry a hug before leaving as well.
"The twins are down for their nap," Kara said, appearing after the two left.
"How much did you hear?" Barry asked.
"Everything," Kara said. "But Topar was way too into his script. I had to read one of Zari's lines like ten times for him so he could deliver his in different ways." Barry gave a laugh at that. "So, what is your filming schedule like? Lake's Extraordinary Playlist now, Atlantis this summer, Antimorphs in the fall. What about the Picard movie and Spider-Man now?"
"Picard, I am able to film my part for that while I am doing Animorphs," Barry said. "Me and Kayla don't have the biggest role there so all parties have worked out a way to balance it." Kara gave a nod. "And the first Spider-Man movie is more about getting Miles into it. Ben Reilly appears more towards the end so I can do that easily after Animorphs is done before season 2 of Lake's start filming… well, if that gets renewed. I am going to need to go to Britain for like a week in June. After Lake's is done filming."
"Britain?" Kara asked.
"I am doing an episode of Doctor Who. Russell agreed I should be able to attend the Doctor Who STAR Con as a guest so I am playing a villain in one episode," Barry said and from his smirk Kara knew he was very pleased with the part. "I've been watching the new season with Kayla in it. Her and Tom Ellis are amazing. My part will be great too. I'm going to be the new regeneration of the Rani." Kara just stared at him. "And you know nothing about that."
"Nope, but glad you're happy. Always good to have future plans," Kara said.
"Yeah," Barry said kissing Kara. "Think you can hold down the fort here while I go find Rae?"
"Go for it," Kara said and before the last word was out of her mouth Barry had run out already.

Rae sat at the table and wasn't surprised by the lightning trail of Barry arriving.
"I don't know why this is the last place I looked," Barry said, looking around the empty restaurant area in the Luthor Corp building which was transforming into a Reproduction Womb Center or something like that for the artificial wombs like the one Dani was born in. "Thinking of doing another pop up?"
"Something like that," Rae said, moving the piece of paper she was writing on over to Barry.
"Rachel Allen Specialties. Rae Allen House. Conrae's Gourmont Foods…" Barry read the scribblings. "Conrae?" Barry paused at that.
"Connor did that one," Rae said. "That world loves couple names." Rae smiled at it though.
"What is this?" Barry asked of the paper.
"I asked Lena and Lex what they were going to do with this space. You know the upper floors will be for their new birthing business and there are other retail areas on this main floor they plan on renting out. They said I could have it if I want," Rae said; Barry was shocked. "I don't want to go to culinary school. I see Little Me doing it and it's great for her, but I can't stand the idea of schooling, even if it's cooking schooling," she'd referred to the version of herself from the world called Splitsville who had been called Little Rae by their New Justice version. "I want to do this, so, I am going to open my own restaurant."
Barry opened his mouth at this. "And before you start stating statistics on how many new restaurants fail, I have an edge. I have connection to you and Kayla, your fans will come here for even the slight chance to see you in the open. I have some popularity of my own from Next Level Chef, and I have the Luthor's backing me up. Lena and Lex are willing to help me with the business side - including money. They think having a good restaurant down here will be good for their own business. Plus, the restaurant area also comes with a back room. I could be having baby showers every week with the Luthor business above. Maybe even Baptisms and more parties."
"Are you finished?" Barry asked after Rae's ramble.
"Yes," Rae said.
"Well, you seem to have thought this out," Barry said. "Including a speech to say to me, but for the record I was going to say it sounds like a brilliant idea, even before the speech."
"You were?" Rae said, stunned.
"I was. You belong to cooking and if a restaurant is your way to it, I will tweet about it every day to get my fans here for you," Barry said, putting an arm around Rae and bringing her close. Rae returning the hug. "But you need to do something about the name. For whatever it's worth, I think I like the idea of calling it something 'table'. Like Allen's' Table."
"What about Rae's Table?" Rae asked to that.
"Oh, just going by your first name. Little miss big shot," Barry said playfully and teasingly messed up her hair which she laughed at. "I like."
"Good, because I might still need you for the liquor license until I am 21," Rae said and Barry gave a laugh. "Oh, and you should also know Alex called me earlier." Barry raised an eyebrow, wondering what his agent was doing calling his little sister. "Gordon Ramsey is doing a Master Chef Extreme Competition where he is taking former competitors from all his different shows for it. He wanted to know if I would be interested and remember, Alex listed me as her client when I did Next Level Chef." Barry had forgotten about that. "I said yes."
"Ah, we'll make a celebrity chef out of you yet," Barry said.
"It will be good advertisement for this restaurant," Rae said.
"Yeah. Yeah. First you win Master Chef, then we get you a cooking show of your own," Barry said and Rae rolled her eyes but had a smirk on her face. "And you missed my announcement."
"You're playing Spider-Man," Rae said, surprising Barry and Rae held up her cellphone.
"Oh," Barry pouted at that, having missed her during the announcement party.
"Come on, let's run." Rae summoned her Speed Force suit and ran out of the restaurant through the wall. Barry gave a laugh and went to chase her.

Lake's Extraordinary Playlist and Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist filmed next to each other on the same lot, so to do the crossover coming up in Lake's first season was easily enough. Barry was still in his costume when he went over to the next stage and got Kayla's attention. He'd been mulling this idea for a while now.
Kayla was in costume, too, but since her character was a new employee at Zoey's tech company, it was more laid back than Barry's scrubs. "Yes, doctor?" Kayla joked as Barry dragged her somewhere private to talk. "Or should I call you Spidy?" Barry gave a smirk at that. "Speaking of, Lucy has already gotten a call from Sony asking if I would be interested."
"What did you say?" Barry asked.
"Depends on the part. You are not being a superhero and me a love interest," Kayla said and Barry should have known that was coming up. "So, what's going on?"
"Wonder Woman," Barry said.
"You already agreed to play the part when I can get that started," Kayla pushed back.
"I'm not trying to back out," Barry said, knowing he had agreed to play Diana's lover, Steve, who in real life was a secret time agent watching Diana, but that part would be cut out of the eventual movie. Kayla said too complicated. "I want in more." Kayla raised an eyebrow. "We're great partners, right? On the screen together. For STAR Con."
"Yeah," Kayla said.
"And I know you want to do Wonder Woman without the backing of a studio so I was thinking we could make a production company," Barry said and Kayla opened her mouth. "Before you say no, think about it. We could take on our own productions, decide what studio we are going to work with instead of auditioning and hoping for the parts we want. We make them. We can produce the movies on our own too, without anyone. It's a step forward for both of us in our careers."
"You done?" Kayla asked after a moment, reminding Barry of his conversation with Rae the other day.
"Yes," Barry said.
"And you need to slow down before going into a speech because I was going to say you actually came up with a good idea," Kayla said and Barry blinked, realizing he had done the same thing to Kayla that Rae had done to him.
"So AllenKent Productions is a-go?" Barry asked.
"KentAllen," Kayla corrected.
"It was my idea. Why would your name go first?" Barry asked.
"Why wouldn't my name go first? I am the bigger star. The bigger draw so the bigger name appeal," Kayla said. "Plus, I am a Paragon."
"What does being a Paragon mean to our production company?" Barry asked.
"We literally restarted the universe," Kayla said and Barry gave a frown. "But why would your name go before mine?"
"Well A comes before K. It's alphabetical," Barry said and could see from the look on Kayla's face she wasn't impressed. "Fine. KentAllen Production it is."
"Good boy," Kayla said and Krypto, who had been standing with Kayla, gave a bark as if she was talking to him. "Yes, you always are a good boy." Kayla gave her dog a pet as she walked away from the area they were at to go back to the stage.
"Kent not even really her last name. It's Lang…" Barry mumbled to himself, but knew not to argue that - everyone knew Kayla as Kayla Kent and most forgot her last name wasn't really Kent, anyway. Besides, Kayla was right: she was the bigger name, after all. Barry smirked though. He had been thinking of a production company for a while. Now he just needed to find out how to get it going for he and Kayla.
Post Chapter Note: Well, a very Barry-focused chapter for our return, which isn't a bad thing. I figured it was nice doing more of Karry here before getting into the main plot of Caitlin's Cancer again.
