Chapter 2: Dragon Warriors
Po and I were busy, serving the customers at our dad's restaurant. Po kept running into people's tables. Everyone wasn't too happy about it. I was thinner than Po, so I had no problem going around the tables. Po ran into a bunny family's table which made the babies cry. My face flushed with embarrassment. Po apologized to them nervously.
"Dad, you're embarrassing me!" I shouted.
"Sorry," Po said. Po's attention then turned to a sign that was hung up on the wall.
"What? Master Oogway's choosing the Dragon Warrior! Today! Everyone! Everyone! Go! Get to the Jade Palace! One of the five is going to get the Dragon Scroll! We've been waiting 1,000 years for this! Just take the bowl!" Po yelled with excitement. Everyone scrambled to get to the Jade Palace. Po kept rambling on to the customers. "This is the greatest day in Kung Fu history! Just go!"
"Come on Lana! We don't wanna miss this!" Po shouted as he took my hand. My eyes beamed with excitement when Po led me to the Jade Palace. But our excitement was short-lived when our dad, Mr. Ping stopped us.
"Po! Lana! Where are you going?" Mr. Ping asked us.
"To the Jade Palace?" Po said nervously.
"But you guys are forgetting your noodle cart." Mr. Ping said, getting the noodle cart and pushing it towards us. "The whole valley will be there and you'll sell noodles to all of them."
I made a loud groaning sound. "Daaaad please," I whined.
"Selling noodles?" Po said. "But Dad, you know I was kinda thinking, maybe I..."
"Yeah?" Mr. Ping said.
"I was kinda thinking maybe I..." Po stuttered. I could tell he was struggling to find the right words.
"Uh-huh?" Mr. Ping said excitedly.
"Could also sell the bean buns? They're about to go bad." Po said. I just sighed. Why did it have to be so hard to tell Dad that we just wanted to go to the Jade Palace and watch the Furious Five get the Dragon Scroll?
"That's my boy! I told you that dream was a sign!" Mr. Ping said.
"Yeah. Glad I had it." Po said, chuckling nervously. Grabbing our noodle cart, Po and I made our way to the Jade Palace. When we got there, Po and I took one long look at the flight of stairs. Po's face was wide-eyed. He gulped nervously. One thing I know about my dad is that he hates stairs. I don't like stairs all that much either.
"How the hell do they expect us to climb all of those stairs!?" I shouted.
"I have no idea," Po said. We began our long and painful journey up those stairs. Po struggled up the steps. I had to admit, it was kinda funny watching him struggle. I was a little bit ahead of him.
"Come on! Come on! Almost there!" Po cried. Po looked down the steps to see he barely made it up. He was only a few inches off the ground. "No! Oh, no!"
"Sorry, Po." A pig said as two pigs walked by him.
"We'll bring you back a souvenir." The other pig said. The pigs ran up the stairs. Po looked disappointed but then he had a look of determination on his face.
"No. I'll bring me back a souvenir." Po said.
"Come on Dad, we can do this!" I shouted. Po took off his apron and his hat. I took off my apron and tied my hoodie around my waist, revealing my Katniss shirt. Po and I ran up the stairs. Po and I reached the top of the stairs just as they announced the ceremony to begin. We were so busy celebrating our success that we barely had time to notice the two big red doors closing.
"Oh, no, no, no, wait! We're coming! Wait, wait! Yes!" Po shouted. We ran as fast as we could, but the doors slammed in our faces. Po groaned in pain because he hurt his finger. Po began pounding on the doors.
"Hey! Open the door! Let me in!" Po whined.
"I don't think they are going to hear you," I said. I then heard Shifu's voice on the other side of the wall.
"Citizens of the Valley of Peace, it is my great honor to represent to you, Tigress! Viper! Crane! Monkey! Mantis!" As Shifu spoke, Po and I climbed up a wall. There was a hole in the wall so Po pulled himself up. I climbed on top of his shoulders to get a better look.
"The Furious Five!" Po shouted. We gave out excited yells as the Furious Five made their entrance. I was especially excited to see Tigress.
"Tigress!" I shouted happily. They made their cool landing pose on the ground.
"Yeah, the Furious Five!" Po shouted. Crane pushed a huge gust of wind towards us, which caused the wooden door to close our peephole. Po and I fell on the ground, making a hard landing. This time, Po landed on top of me.
"Oww..." I groaned.
"Warriors! Prepare!" Shifu shouted.
"Wait. Oh, no!" Po shouted.
"Ready for battle," Shifu said. Po quickly poked his head through the small peephole on the door.
"The thousand tougns of fire." As Po and I were admiring the scene, a bunny moved in our pathway, blocking the view.
"Hey! Get out of the way!" I shouted. We looked up to see fireworks shooting in the sky. My eyes sparkled when I watched Crane take on the fire.
"Dad, look at that!" I said, pointing at the fireworks. Po laughed with excitement. He was enjoying himself, and so was I. I have never seen the Furious Five in action before. It would be more enjoyable if we were actually inside the palace though. Po screamed when he accidentally fell down the stairs as he was backing up to get a better view of Crane.
When Po recovered from the fall, Po punched at the door with his bare hand, but he ended up hurting himself in the process. "Ow." Po cried.
Like that was gonna work, I thought to myself.
Next, we tried swinging with a bamboo stick to get in but that didn't work. We hit the wall instead, cracking it. We tried launching ourselves with a tree, but it ended up hitting us hard instead. After trying so many ways, we gave up. Po just sat on the edge of the steps, feeling embarrassed while I bawled my eyes out because we were missing the coolest show ever. Even cooler than a movie theater.
"And finally, Master Tigress!" Shifu announced. My eyes perked up. "And believe me citizens, you have not seen anything yet."
"I know!" Po yelled as he pulled a tree branch back with a rope.
"Master Tigress! Face Iron Ox and his Blades of Death!" Shifu said. As Po and I were flying across the building, I caught a glimpse of Tigress who was preparing to face the Iron Ox.
"Tigress!" I shouted, waving at her, hoping to get her attention. I groaned when Po and I landed in a pit of unarmed fireworks.
*Inside the Palace, no POV*
Oogway can sense the Dragon Warrior inside him. Everyone gasped when Oogway held his hand up. "I sense the Dragon Warrior is among us. I'm sensing two." Oogway said. The Furious Five lined up, ready to find out who the next Dragon Warriors are.
"Citizens of the Valley of Peace. Master Oogway will now choose the Dragon Warriors!" Shifu said.
*Back outside, Lana's POV*
"Huh!? Oh, no! No, no, wait!" Po shouted frantically as soon as we heard they were gonna pick the new Dragon Warrior. And did I hear that right? Did he say two Dragon Warriors and not just one? I wonder how that works. I looked at the fireworks. I think I have an idea of how to get in. It's stupid, but it will be worth it.
"Dad, I have an idea. What if we used these fireworks to get in?" I said.
"That's an awesome idea! Let's do it!" Po said. I helped Po make a mini rocket chair. Po helped me make mine. We laughed with excitement when our work was done and high-fived. This had to work now. Po lit a match. I lit mine. We ignited our fireworks.
"Po! Lana! What are you two doing?!" My heart stopped when I saw our dad, Mr. Ping running up to us. Mr. Ping tried to put out the fires.
"What does it look like we're doing? Stop!" Po shouted.
"We're going to see the Dragon Warrior. And guess what, Dad? There's not just one. There's two!" I yelled.
"But I don't understand. You guys finally had the noodle dream." Mr. Ping said.
"I lied, I don't dream about noodles, Dad," Po said.
"I love Kung Fu!" Po and I yelled at the same time. At the end of our sentence, we both slumped over in our chairs. We both had saddened expressions. I felt ashamed that I lied. I had tears in my eyes. I was afraid I was gonna cry like a baby again. Po sniffled sadly. I couldn't help but sob a little.
"Oh, come on, kids. Let's get back to work." Mr. Ping said sadly.
"Okay. Come on, Lana." Po said. I sighed. As we were getting up, something unexpected happened. The fireworks exploded, causing us to go crashing into the wall.
"Oh! Come back!" Mr. Ping shouted. We shot up high in the sky. Po and I screamed. The audience from down below oohed and ahhed as the fireworks from behind us exploded. The chairs disappeared from behind us. We were in the middle of the air. Then, we began to fall. I screamed at the top of my lungs as we fell down to the ground. My life flashed before my eyes as we landed. Then, everything went black.
When I woke up, I could faintly see the Furious Five standing in front of us. They did not look too happy that we were here. I had a pounding headache, probably from the fall.
"What's going on? Where, uh...?" Po stammered. I was confused when I saw Master Oogway pointing at both Po and me.
"What are you pointing...?" Po's face went wide when he realized he was standing in front of Master Oogway.
"Oh! Okay. Sorry. Me and my daughter just wanted to see who the Dragon Warrior was." Po said.
"How interesting," Oogway said.
"Master, are you pointing at me?" Tigress asked.
"Him. And her." Oogway said.
"Who?" I said, confused. Po and I tried to move to see if Oogway was pointing at someone else, but he was pointing at me and Po.
"You and him," Oogway said.
"Me?" Po said. Po and I gave each other confusing looks. How could we be the Dragon Warriors? We barely knew a thing about Kung Fu.
"The universe has brought us the Dragon Warriors!" Oogway said. Oogway held our arms up with his staff.
"What!?" Everyone yelled. Music played while confetti burst out. Everyone in the audience cheered. I was still so confused. What is happening right now? I could hear Shifu yelling. I saw ducks coming out with a carrier.
"Stop! Who told you to?" Shifu yelled. The ducks carried me and Po onto the carrier and carried us away. I could hear Shifu yelling at Oogway. I have a feeling that Shifu does not like us.
"That flabby panda and human being cannot be the answer to our problem! You were about to point to Tigress and those things fell right in front of her! That was just an accident!" Shifu yelled angrily. Damn, that hurt.
"There are no accidents," Oogway said. Po accidentally broke the carrier when the ducks were carrying us away. Some pigs came to assist us to help us climb up the steps and into the palace. Meanwhile, the Furious Five bowed their heads in disappointment.
"Forgive us, Master. We have failed you." Tigress said.
"No. If the panda and the human have not quit by morning, I have failed you." Shifu said.
The doors closed when we got inside the palace, leaving Po and me alone. My mind raced with so many questions. How did this happen? Why did Master Oogway choose me and Po to be the Dragon Warriors? Hopefully, I will have some answers soon.
